A/N: I have no real clue as to what I'm doing writing-wise right now so I'm allowing the plot bunnies to take over my brain function, as a result here's the next flight of fledgling plots that I'll turn into full stories at some point. Some of these are more developed than others and some of them may not end up going anywhere for a while. I need to get around to re-writing some of the fics in chapters 6 and 7 ( I think?) that I don't like anymore but that's for another time. I've been asked a couple of times now to do more sex-explicit stuff so some of these are with that in mind while others focus more on fluff and cute romance. Enjoy these and let me know what you think, thanks! ~Len
Number 69: Burning Fears (My state is on fire currently so this has been an idea I've been toying with for a while now. I haven't fully decided my pairings yet, it might be a Zero/Takuma fic or it might end up a Kaname/Zero fic with some Kaito/Zero thrown in the middle somewhere)
The sudden stinging of his throat woke Takuma, gasping for breath he wildly looked around the room. Nothing was amiss, yet the burn of smoke was so obvious in his lungs he couldn't help but wake Shiki before rushing off to Kuran Kaname's room. Surely the other nobles would be woken soon by the smell. "What's going-" mid-sentence Kaname was cut off by the constricting of is own lungs causing him to cough as Takuma woke him from a formerly peaceful sleep. Neither vampire decided words were necessary as they quickly rushed downstairs, Shiki and the other nobles were also beginning to gather in the common area. Before Kaname could address anyone the door to the moon dorms was violently thrown open by their teacher, Yagari Touga.
"The sun dorms and main buildings are on fire, so are some of the surrounding trees, we're evacuating everyone. Now." he gruffed out, quickly without leaving room for protest. Kaname wouldn't normally comply with a hunter's orders but clearly the man's focus was on the bigger issue and the vampire prince couldn't argue that he and the nobles were of higher priority than far more susceptible humans.
"Very well, everyone, let us evacuate quickly and comply with the school rules. This is not a time to make things harder on Cross-san. Understood?" a sweeping look over his nobles gained various nods and bows which he took as good enough as they followed the senior elite hunter out of the moon dorms to a safer area away from the day class evacuation route. It was dusk but Touga had a mind to lead them into the shade outside the gates nonetheless which Kaname was grateful for. Watching as day class students were being led by the perfects and some teachers into lines outside the school, he vaguely noted some of them struggling to walk. 'Humans are so fragile...' he thought before hearing the familiar voices of the three other hunters that occupied the campus grounds. Sayori was leading one of the final lines of students, Touga was calling an ambulance, Kaito and Zero were directing the students while the staff began role call to make sure everyone had been accounted for.
"Is everyone accounted for Kaname-san?" Sayori, who had finished leading her line, came up to the vampire prince to check the night class' numbers. She was out of breath, there were burns on her hands and arms but she paid it no mind, focusing on the tasks at hand first.
"Yes, everyone in the moon dorms is present. Do you know what happened?" he asked back, looking to see if he could find Yuki within the mass of day class girls.
"No, I don't, I'm hoping we can get some answers soon after the fires die out." she responded honestly before Kaito came up beside her, like Sayori he was obviously burned in several places but the vampires knew better than to comment.
"Zero is ordering us to find Cross and two students in the main building, take Cross' office while I get the two in the classroom. Once they're here we're moving the students into town, head for the hospital, and don't wait." the elite hunter kept it to the point, as he turned to finish his own task.
"Where did Zero go?" Sayori managed to stop him for a brief moment.
"He went to get a girl trapped on the fourth floor. Said not to worry about it and not to wait for him before we start escorting the others. He'll meet us there." came the response before the hunters headed back into the gates and out of ear-shot. Kaname watched as they hopped the gates instead of opening them and sprinted towards the burning building.
Number 70: Unconventional Legends (starts out a bit OC heavy but will focus around Zero and some of the trials he experienced in the association. It's a bit of a piggyback off of my ideas for Resonance but I haven't decided if it's a prequel or a sequel aha)
He had heard it for years, "A hunter can't be blind, they'll die before they get out of training!" the voices he could never put faces to would say. As he stumbled through the first four years of his life in the dark he managed to learn how to understand the world around him in the form of shapes and objects that were solid versus those that weren't. He used his walking stick on occasion but preferred to try to get places without it, he didn't want to be disabled. He didn't ask for the accident that took away his sight for good. He didn't have a choice but to live with the consequences of others. He had come to accept that he could never fulfill his family line, their name would be passed down through his brother instead of him. He was a shame to his family, even though they tried to keep him included he knew well they were only doing it because they pitied him. It was disgusting. To get away from it all he requested to be enrolled in a famous high school in another town, Cross Academy he had been told was at the top of the charts. It held vampires, humans, and even a couple of infamous hunters. He was smart, at the top of his class since he could remember, even being blind he wasn't going to let his grades slip. Things just had to be taught differently, he had to accommodate. Now here he was, a new school, a new start, he could hear the massive amount of students that surrounded the grounds. Giggling, screaming, there was so much noise it was almost overwhelming.
"You must be new here." the sudden sound coming from his right made him jump and almost fall before an arm caught him and steadied his balance once again. A hunter was before him, a powerful one at that, and there was another hunter behind him but their aura wasn't as strong.
"You can tell?" he questioned, earning an amused huff from what he assumed to be an older hunter, probably an elite going off is magical presence.
"Not many others stand in front of the fan mass like a deer in headlights. Name's Takamiya Kaito. What's yours?" he spoke again, he seemed friendly enough but there was only so many chances one would be willing to take with a Takamiya, they were a well-known clan and not the first hunter a normal being would want to run into. Swallowing, slightly nervously, it was better to answer quickly.
"Ishida Yoshiro, it's a pleasure to meet you, Takamiya-sama." Yoshiro quickly spoke and bowed in the general direction from which Kaito's voice came. Kaito hummed, eyes narrowing a bit.
"Ishida...Ishida...I know that name..." he mumbled causing the color to drain from Yoshiro's face, did they know about him already? What would they say?
"Ishida is the clan we went to the ball for a few months back, they live two towns over remember? You and Zero were complaining about it." the second hunter spoke, a girl, as she made her own presence more known. "I'm Wakaba Sayori, one of the perfects of this school, why don't we take you to Cross' office to get you settled. Welcome to Cross Academy Ishida-kun." Sayori welcomed him, genuinely, he noted that neither hunter commented on his awkward introduction or corrected him for not looking at them formally.
"I'll meet you two there, Yuki is having issues with her line it looks like. Beware of how much Cross talks, the man is crazy." Kaito warned before running off to join the remaining perfects at the gates of the moon dorms. Sayori huffed, rolling her eyes.
"Cross-san isn't that bad, just excitable, I noticed you have a walking cane in your bag...do you need it, or are you okay to follow my voice? I won't mention it if you don't want me to." she began, waiting for a sign that she had the young boy's attention again. Rarely was a hunter accepted to the academy, only she, Kaito, Zero, and their former sensei were hunters but from what Kaito said Zero had been fairly adamant about approving Yoshiro's application. She wondered why at first but quickly realized that Zero's thought process was under an iron lock and key. She would just need to wait to find out what the notorious silverette was thinking.
Number 71: Untitled (Been watching a lot of NCIS and Criminal Minds lately to pass through quarantine boredom so I came up with this murder-plot centric one that I don't have a title for yet)
"What do you expect us to do? I brought this to your highness's attention because the Council is already out of resources and ideas. I can't risk more nobles than I have already and clearly this killer has no fear and a world of confidence. I'm afraid at this rate they will not be caught and they know this already. You can't tell me you have a better plan, Asato-sama, we need help." a Council elder spoke up in defense of his decision.
"With all due respect, Asato-san, why was this not brought to my attention after the first series of murders? The Council should understand that all decisions and issues should come through my office prior to becoming common knowledge. As a result of your hubris, we now have a community in a panic and an out of control slayer. I expect better of my Council." the prince silenced the noble before he could open his mouth again and turned to the series of pictures before him. Seven high ranking nobles had been brutally murdered, in their homes or on the streets, no one had a clue who did it, why, or how. It was causing panic and distrust in the vampire community and he assumed there wasn't much time left before someone in his circle became a target. The noble in response grit his teeth.
"I assumed our units had it under control and would have this person dealt with before it needed to be addressed Kaname-sama, I realize now that this killer is clearly smarter than initially anticipated..." Asato ground out, facing the prince was one thing but he also had to face the clear disgust on his grandson's face as they stood around the main table in the moon dorms of Cross academy. Before the prince could comment further the front door opened revealing one of the campus' perfects and well-known hunter, Tamakiya Kaito. Though the hunter was not a resident of the moon dorms, he frequented the building for his hunting partner and best friend Kiryu Zero, though he appeared to be alone this time.
"Takamiya-kun, may I borrow your attention for a moment," Kaname questioned, ignoring the looks of surprise or irritation that came from several of the Council members. Kaito was known well around both the hunter and vampire communities, mostly for his loyalty to the Kiryu Clan but also for his abilities on the field. He wasn't much of a talker, nor would Kaname consider him friendly, but when it came to a job needing to be done he was one of the best out there.
"I suppose, what for." it wasn't asked, but Kaname no longer expected that kind of respect from hunters, especially not elites. As the young adult was allowed a place around the table next to Takuma and Shiki his eyes immediately gravitated toward the contents displayed before him. "Looks like someone's been busy..." he mumbled to no one in particular as he shuffled through the gruesome photos.
"Someone indeed, we currently have seven nobles dead and I'm not blind enough to think there won't be more the longer we sit here. The Council has exhausted its resources." the pureblood didn't state they needed help, but it was implied.
"You realize that asking a hunter unit for help puts this in our jurisdiction, all movements and decisions will be made by us save for the end punishment of the person or persons behind the offense. If you agree to these terms via contract may it be verbal or written then it will be processed as an official mission, only then can I technically aid your cause and bypass the Association's Chairman. If you don't wish to agree to these terms then you will need to take it up with the Chairman and hope it gets processed with all our other on file missions." Kaito explained formally, turning to the pureblood.
"You're kidding! This is a murder spree! Shouldn't you hunters have taken care of this already?!" another Council member spoke up, receiving a blood-chilling glare in return.
"As a unit, the Association members are only authorized to take jobs we are assigned. If it doesn't go through the Chairman it doesn't reach us. Getting it to the Chairman is dependant on you. I'm giving you the option to give my unit lead control in order to bypass that process, so I suggest you take it. And in the future instead of waiting around for seven murders to occur, you might want to get it to us a little sooner to avoid this mess." the councilman's eyes flashed in anger but held his tongue when the pureblood held up his hand for silence.
"I will agree to your contract on the given parameters; however, I wish to be informed of every movement taken. I'm not risking any more lives than we already have." Kaname decided, Kaito nodded and accepted the file written up by the Council to look it over while pulling out his cell. When the person on the other end answered, he was short and to the point.
"Stop what you're doing and get back to the academy, we have a new mission that needs immediate attention."
Number 72: Tattoo Envy (likely going to be a short 1-3 chapter thing that leans more on light fluff/cute romance or bromance if you don't want to think of this as gay it won't take away from the story, at least not yet I don't think lol I wouldn't know because I haven't written the whole thing out)
Envy. That was the word he had been looking for. He was envious. It shouldn't have come as a surprise when Takuma said it but somehow it still did. Vampires were always jealous of one another, jealous of status, jealous of lovers...no one was ever satisfied it seemed. That's how his father was, always wanting him to be the smartest, the best, to get all the riches and use whatever method was necessary to be the envy of everyone below him. When compared to the humans he was already there, top of the line looks, genius was a given, and rich enough to buy his own place if he had wanted to by the age of fifteen. He was envied by other vampires, for being close to their king, being allowed to live with him every day, called upon when things needed to get done. Aido Hanabusa was someone to envy, he was nearly perfect and everyone noticed. Everyone but the one person that out-did him at every corner. His rival, his enemy, the only person he was ever envious of, and the last person he should pay attention to. Kiryu Zero. Hanabusa grit his teeth as he stared out the window, distracted from his normal morning routine before class. 'Goddammit! Why him?! Why did it have to be him?!' he could have screamed, how could he be better than Hanabusa Aido?!
"If you keep staring at him you're going to be late." Hanabusa's cousin, Kain Akatsuki, pointed out flatly from where he stood in the doorway waiting for them to go downstairs.
"I WASN'T STARING!" the shorter noble screeched, to which Akatsuki rolled his eyes and mumbled a 'whatever' before leaving the blond to himself. Turning back to the window briefly, Hanabusa fixed his tie and straightened out his pressed uniform blazer before aggressively tugging the curtains shut and stomping downstairs to meet with the other noble vampires in their king's circle.
"Here we go again..." Rima, a quiet vampiress usually found hanging around Shiki Senri and Ichijou Takuma, mumbled as Hanabusa appeared at the top of the stairs. Ruka snorted in bemusement at the sight of her cousin before busying herself once again with fixing her already brushed out hair. Hanabusa would have snapped at her comment had their king, Kuran Kaname, not shot him a look daring him to start something before they even got outside.
"Let's go to class." the pureblood ordered as their white and gold trim doors opened without assistance, allowing them to grace the outside world.
Number 74: Slayer's Spades (this one should be interesting, the normal world and what not but focusing more on the association's branches and the secrets Hitomu-san is hiding, how does it involve Zero? You'll have to be patient to find that one out. no pairings decided)
The damp floors and dark walls he felt were a little unnecessary, he didn't walk out of fourteenth-century France even if he was alive at the time. "This place is disgusting." he grumbled to no one in particular. He was known for his beauty, his grace, his charm, none of that was present in these catacomb-inspired hallways.
"We're almost there Hitomu-sama, I assure this scenery doesn't last." a guard, one of his right hands he supposed, spoke from ahead of him as they entered an opening that was much more fitting for his style. Gold-plated doors, white marble walls, and security guards that would make the king himself jealous. As he approached spears came down, stopping the man in his tracks.
"I've come to see your boss, he is expecting me." Hitomu straightened his shoulders as he spoke with authority. The guards didn't speak but raised their spears allowing only him to open the doors until they came down again.
"Guards will stay here." the gruff and unmoving tone came from one of them, though he wasn't sure which one. He sighed, this was so renaissance, but continued on his own into the massive entryway. It was so clean and spotless he could see his reflection everywhere he looked. As the doors closed behind him, the echo rang through endless silent hallways.
"Welcome, Takahashi Hitomu, what is it you have come to me for?" the booming voice greeted him but there was nobody in sight, no footsteps to be heard, even with his vampiric senses he couldn't tell if he was alone or not. The hair on the back of his neck began to stand on edge, was this what they were truly like?
"Your Highness, I've come with a request," he started before abruptly cutting himself off, whipping himself around wildly as he thought he felt a breeze come from one direction or the other. Did he hear footsteps? Was that a child or the wind laughing?! Trying his best to keep his breath even he began again. "I've come to request the aid of your best slayers, your Highness, the Spades." he spoke, waiting for an answer as the air around him seemed to become unbreathable, sinister, the world cast in black too dark to comprehend. Swallowing his fears he looked above him, eyes growing wide and jaw-dropping into a silent scream, a pair of blood craving eyes stared back.
Number 75: Don't Go (A brother-centric fic between Zero and Ichiru, set in the original world but without the Rido incident. It's currently just a very sweet family short)
Each time he would leave, Ichiru couldn't sleep, the thought of his brother out in the field would never sit comfortably with him even if he had been training for it his whole life. Hell, Zero had been on more missions by the time he was fifteen than some hunter had in a lifetime. He was more than capable of taking care of himself in the heat of combat. He was the world's strongest hunter and wore their family name proudly, a look from him would send others running for the door just to keep out of his way. That's how Zero preferred it, to be a solo hunter, he didn't want to rely on anyone but himself. The younger Kiryuu sighed. His brother had quite a reputation because of his glares or seeming unwillingness to participate if it didn't concern bloodshed. Friendly wasn't a word anyone with sense would use in the same sentence with anyone bearing the last name Kiryuu. But Ichiru was different than the rest of the world, he meant everything and more to his brother, only Ichiru ever got kind smiles and comforting foods or pats to the head. Zero never argued with him, he let Ichiru do as he pleased regardless of the outcome and would always stand in his defense. The only answer he gave anyone when asked why he still cared after all this time was that Ichiru was his twin and they shared a bond he couldn't ignore. The only time Zero ignored the wishes of his younger brother was when it came to his job at the association. The association. He grimaced at the very word, controlling himself just enough from hurling the pillow in his arms across their room. The Hunter's Association had been tearing their family apart since it began but apparently Ichiru was the only one that saw that. He was the only one that spoke against them, refusing to join the ranks and become one of the hard-minded brutes like their former sensei Yagari Toga. He worried that his brother would eventually end up an emotionless weapon; unable to think or do anything outside of combat, unable to live as a normal twenty-five-year-old should because he was too wrapped up in what he was "supposed" to be doing. "One day...one day I'll destroy that place so you don't think about returning." a smile some may consider fit for a maniac slipped onto Ichiru's lips as he thumbed a picture of his brother Cross Kaien had given him when he first made contact with his brother's foster father. He wasn't happy, but Zero had all but lost the ability to smile in public by the time Ichiru came into his life again, the younger Kiryuu was determined to get his brother back come hell or high water.
Number 76: Rain (some sort of one-shot type thing, Kaname worries, and Zero's fairly apathetic or something along those lines. I'm currently in the middle of a lightning storm listening to Ed Sheeran's 'Make It Rain' so that might be influencing this segment. Trigger warning, it does mention suicide attempts and will dive into some self-harming thoughts. Can be seen as a Kaname/Zero pairing and would probably end up as such further down the road)
"Do you hate being here that much?" the question came out of nowhere, surprising the hunter enough to pull him out of his daze into the rain outside. He hadn't noticed someone entered his room. Turning to face the dorm president the silverette tilted his head a bit in question.
"What do you mean?" sure he had his issues with moving into the moon dorms upon the vampire prince's request when in his mind it had never been an option. Zero was a day class student, and a hunter on top of that, making friends with vampires wasn't his strong suit. The transition was decided for him, however, shortly after the headmaster learned of his foster son's suicide attempt in the dorms when no one was looking. But that was over two years ago now, he had comes to terms with living among the noble vampires and agreed it would make more sense if he was part of the night class long term. He was a vampire whether he liked it or not.
"Whenever you're here, unable to leave the dorms or without a mission you stay in your room and stare out the window." Kaname looked the hunter up and down subtly, he didn't like to admit it but he wanted to make sure the silverette was okay. He himself was shocked to learn the proud appearing silverette had not only thought about but actively attempted to shoot himself. The vampire didn't want to think of what would have happened had his little sister not barged into Zero's room before he could do anything serious. She never truly talked about it but asked Kaname to make sure it wouldn't happen again in the moon dorms, Kaname didn't ask Zero about that day or if he was still as likely to try it again. It took a year and some number of months for Zero to be able to function somewhat normally around the night class, Takuma was mostly to thank for that, but when he was alone and quiet without any clear emotion running through his eyes Kaname became worried.
"That has nothing to do with being here, Cross would say the same thing when I was in the sun dorms." the slightly amused tone made the prince a little wary, he couldn't tell where Zero's mind was at. He was unpredictable, unreadable, and that rarely led to anything good.
"Then?" he wanted to know why, why was the hunter insistent on isolating himself from the others when they could be getting to know each other? He couldn't force Zero, the silverette wasn't a child anymore, and even if he was that wouldn't have gone over well. All he could do was hope and ask for the other's time, never knowing if he or anyone else would get it.
"The rain is nice..." voice soft and distracted, Kaname was caught off guard by the remark. Stunned into silence as Zero continued watching out the window as though the prince wasn't even there. It didn't explain anything, and he was sure there was more that lay beyond the hunter's odd behavior but it was clear he had already lost the hunter's attention and it wouldn't come back to him again for a while. Instead of pressing his question, Kaname opted to stand by the silverette's side and join him in silence, watching the rain.
A/N: Thanks for reading my next set of premature plots, I won't lie, I'm pretty excited to write out more of these. My heart was beating like hell after Slayer's Spades and I wouldn't have it any other way. I don't know if all of them will be long multi-chapter fics like I've written in the past but either way, I look forward to them all when the time comes. I am working on My Name...Is Zero for now but I still enjoy entertaining new fic ideas along the way. Please let me know what you think! Remember to always keep reading, keep writing, and live creative! ~Len
