Chapter 3: Smash Tournament
A couple months have passed and Master Hand has scheduled a tournament for the characters. While the tournament was happening he planned for the mansion to be upgraded in order to house new coming smash fighters.
"Smashers! Meet in front of the control platform!"
The characters stood in a row looking up at the gloved hand. Master Hand announced that today was the smash tournament and cheers erupted from the eight fighters.
"The people who are facing off against each other are as follows: Link versus Mario, Pikachu versus Kirby, Yoshi versus Fox and Donkey Kong versus Samus," Master Hand listed. Samus groaned and Donkey Kong snickered.
"You begin in an hour, you may continue to practise in the meanwhile."
The practises were now against the chosen tournament opponents they discovered from Master Hand.
"Come on, metal suit! Is that all you got?" DK taunted. That annoyed Samus immediately and she charged towards him. When she leaped into the air she also launched a grenade below to strike Donkey Kong. The two were tied in the end which made Samus happy. At least she was getting better.
"We are starting the smash tournament right away. We are allowing who starts to be randomly picked," Master Hand clicked a button and everyone waited in anticipation to see who was chosen.
"Yoshi versus Fox!" The two opponents smiled at each and walked up to the platform waiting to find out where their battle was going to take place. The stage that was chosen was Hyrule Castle. The others watched the battle unfold on the big screen. Yoshi was attacking Fox furiously. He opened his mouth shooting his tongue out in order to snatch Fox and swallow him. He then laid a green and white egg. It shook a couple times until Fox broke out. Fox launched a roundhouse kick at Yoshi.
Yoshi's damage meter was rising steadily and already passed 70%. Hoping it would help his survival Yoshi encased himself in an egg and began rolling around. He followed Fox until he was satisfied with what Fox's damage meter displayed. He broke out of his egg and attacked Fox some more until he was finally launched off the screen, coming back again with still two lives remaining. Yoshi was able to take them away from Fox and won the battle.
"Next up is Link versus Mario!"
The two foes wished each other luck as they stepped onto the platform. Dream Land was the stage that was chosen for them. Mario jumped out of his green pipe and landed on the ground assuming his fighting stance. Master Hand counted down and on go, Link and Mario headed towards each other.
Mario launched a fireball which Link blocked with his Hylian shield. Link leapt into the air and swung his Master Sword downwards letting out a battle cry. Mario tried to dodge the attack but got hit. He hit the ground with a moan. When Mario got back to his feet he dashed towards Link and used his head to jump behind him. Link spun around and Mario dodged his blade.
Link looked at his meter a minute later and shook his head. 105% wasn't a number he wanted to see. He swung his sword but that gave Mario an opening to strike. The Hylian flew off the safety of the stage and felt himself falling.
"Hyah!" Link used his hero spin getting himself some more air time. He reached for the stage edge but was barely holding on. He looked up, he wasn't able to lift himself up or move without losing his grip. With a shrug Link let go, fell for a few moments until a bright light flashed before his eyes.
Link and Marios battle lasted for quite a while. In the end Mario was deemed victorious. Congratulations were given to Mario when he returned. Mario looked at the mansion and noticed construction was being done.
"Crazy right? Master Hand is rebuilding the mansion today. He won't tell us why but we're thinking this game will be getting more characters," Samus said looking down at Mario. That was a good idea, and would be a reasonable explanation.
"Samus and Donkey Kong will be fighting on the stage Kongo Jungle"
Samus entered the stage and watched DK make his entrance. Donkey Kong charged towards her and she jumped out of the way, striking him once from behind. DK turned around to use his swinging punch and knocked Samus down. Their battle was short but the characters have noticed that Samus was using new combos and has improved, just not enough. Donkey Kong won. Samus looked at Donkey Kong and shrugged.
"Good game. Looks like I'll have to practise more." They turned their attention to the screen which displayed Kirby and Pikachu's fight.
"Pika!" Pikachu yelled before he released a ball of energy at Kirby who moved out of the way just in time. He would have been launched off the stage. For small fighters they sure were lightning quick with their moves. Pikachu won the fight and the victors proceeded to face off, until there was only one grand winner, Donkey Kong.
