Chapter 5: Princess Fun Time

Princess Peach opened her door, ready to start her first full day in the "Smash" mansion. On the other side, Princess Zelda had her hand raised in the air. Peach turned her head, throwing her arms in front of her, shielding herself.

"Good morning! I wasn't going to hit you!" Princess Zelda chirped out.

"Sorry. Still in the process of waking up. What brings you to my room?" Peach shut the door behind her. Zelda held up a paper.

"This was taped on the outside of my door. We got to go and talk with Master Hand. Not sure what it is we're talking about but, it can't be bad whatever it is," Zelda answered. She walked beside the other princess, who agreed with her last sentence. They haven't even been in the game for twenty-four hours. What could they have done wrong? When they went outside into the gardens, Master Hand was hovering above the gardens, giving them a wave when he saw them.

"Morning my ladies. I had an idea pop into my head last night and you two were involved in it. How do you feel about tending the gardens for a couple of weeks?"

Peach clapped her hands together. She would love to tend the gardens. Peach looked at Zelda. Zelda nodded which made Peach cheer, thanking her. As they ate breakfast, Peach spoke about how they could work in the gardens. Zelda wasn't concerned about how the gardens got done, but listened politely. She commented when Peach asked for her input.

"We could both work on one row, starting at the ends then meet in the middle. Another thought would be taking a row each and we work on the separate rows. I'm leaning more towards my first option," Zelda said wiping her mouth with a napkin.

"The first idea could be faster too. We'll figure out something." Peach stood up, tucking her chair in. They went back outside to start their work.

"We should water everything, the soil looks dry. However before we do that, we should weed while it's dry," Zelda suggested.

"The pails must be in the sheds. Same thing with the hoses, I don't see them out here," Peach said pointing at the shed that was closest to her. Zelda followed behind her. Peach opened the door peering in. It was full of supplies and tools. Pails were stacked on the shelves. The blonde-haired princess grabbed four, five gallons pails, handing them to Zelda.

"Are the hoses in there too?" Zelda asked. Peach nodded.

"Yeah, I'll try to get them."

"I'll help you, let me go put the pails down."

Peach grabbed a hose and pulled it. It was a tangled mess. She pulled it out, more hoses getting tangled up. Peach set what she got on the ground, before pulling more. Once she got the hoses out of the shed she picked them up in one big bundle, dragging the ends on the ground.

"You're going to trip Peach," Zelda watched the other woman's feet. She was close to wrapping the hoses around herself.

"Those hoses need to be untangled."

"I see that!"

The first day was expected to be difficult. The two women had to figure out a few things. The gardens took them a few hours to complete, with a couple breaks thrown in the midst.

"We got a long two weeks ahead of us," Peach sighed once she gulped down some water. Zelda agreed. As tired as she was afterwards, Zelda knew she was also going to get enjoyment out of working in the gardens. Silence fell upon the two of them, until one of them spoke.

"Let's go check out the stages. I meant to do that yesterday but with everything else, I completely forgot about it," Zelda suggested getting up, wiping the back of her dress. She heard that the stages were places from the characters' video games. It would be interesting to see the different lands and views.

"Mushroom Kingdom is the name of your land?" The Hylian princess asked. Peach looked back at her.

"Are you poking fun at the name of my kingdom?"

"No! It sounds cute and it's different, that's all. After you show me your castle, I'd love to see the Mushroom Kingdom stage." Zelda replied. Peach and Zelda walked onto the teleportation platform. They left the mansion and were taken to the stage Peach selected. Peach approached Zelda, placing her hands on her shoulders to turn her around. Zelda smiled when her eyes fell upon the castle, her focus primarily on the stained glass. She was in awe.

"Wow! I absolutely love the stained glass portrait of you. It is so beautiful," Zelda admired.

"The toad who created it has exceptional talent. A true artist." Zelda started to giggle and Peach shook her head, knowing what she was thinking.

"They aren't actual toads. They are much cuter." Peach said. She paused to think of a way to describe them in a way that was accurate. She was certain that Princess Zelda still wouldn't understand but she still tried.

"Toads are short, chubby creatures. They kind of look like humans in a way, but they got mushrooms on their heads," Peach explained. One look at Zeldas face let Peach know that Zelda was still confused. Zelda nodded slowly not saying a word.

"Do you have your castle as a stage?" Peach moved on with their conversation. Zelda shook her head. Link told her that the temple was a stage. They proceeded to go the stage from Zelda's videogame.

"Not as neat as yours right?"

Princess Peach waved a hand, dismissing her comment.

"Oh nonsense. I can't believe you said that. This stage is so big and looks so historic. I think this stage is really cool!" Peach replied.
