CHAPTER 13.5:

I've been busy at work this past week due to some deadlines so here's something quick instead.

Fon blinked at the girl Alaude was carrying. The pastry chef recognized it as I-Pin's friend who frequents his patisserie, Emiya Natsumi. She was unconscious, face flushed with fever, shivering, and breathing rather heavily.

"Found her on the sidewalk unconscious," the blond Hibari explained.

"I see. I'll bring the medicine and the necessary items to your room then," Fon replied to that. When all he got was a slightly furrowed brow, Fon then added, "We don't have a spare room Alaude-nii-san, and you're the one who brought her home."

"She's your disciple's friend."

"She's your student. And you're the one who brought her home," Fon pointed out once more.

.

Alaude begrudgingly let the girl use his room.

Fon didn't know what to expect when their…guest suddenly appeared in the dining room, Alaude's plain white comforter wrapped around her shoulder. They only recently managed to break her fever and expected the girl to be bedridden for a while.

Perhaps she was hungry and was lured by the smell of food?

"May we help you, Emiya-san?" Fon asked out loud because his brothers were likely just asking with their eyes instead of their words. Truly, Fon was not a talkative person, preferring actions more than words. But next to his brothers…ah, an off-topic matter.

"I'm thirsty," the girl answered.

"You must have missed it but we placed a glass of water on the bedside table," Fon informed her.

"No," Emiya replied with a frown.

"There is one," Fon patiently corrected knowing the girl's brain was still probably fever-addled (unlike a certain Prefect already twitching in irritation at the perceived insolence), "Do you want me to escort you back to bed?"

"No," was Emiya's swift reply, "I saw the water."

Silence.

"Ah," Fon could only reply to that. It prompted the girl to elaborate, at least.

"I can get my own water. I'm not a baby," the girl reasoned.

"Yes, you are not," Fon agreed with slight amusement, "Do you want me to direct you to the kitchen where you may get your own glass of water?"

"I've been there," Emiya replied, now pouting.

"Is there a problem then?" Fon prompted.

"I can't find a glass," Emiya confessed, "I searched the cabinets and the cupboards but there's only food and plates and bowls…and the blender. Can I use the glass thing of the blender to drink the water?"

At that point, Kyoya had gotten tired of the conversation and with a scoff left the table. That boy really, not even taking his plate and utensils with him.

"Unfortunately, you may not," Fon answered, lips twitching up in amusement. The girl was indeed still not in her right mind.

Emiya seemed to think that over before asking, "Can I use one of the bowls then?"

"You can't either," Fon denied.

Emiya's pouted once more, even looking at him pleadingly, "What can I use then? Can I use your glass?" She then gestured her head on said glass Fon is currently using.

"How about I point to you where to find a glass instead?" the pastry chef offered.

She blinked like she just realized that was an option as well, before nodding, "Okay."

Fon guided the girl towards the kitchen and pointed at the hanging cabinet containing the glasses and cups.

Emiya looked at it blankly before saying, "But that's where I put the baking stuffs."

Fon finally realized why the girl couldn't find their glasses, "Ah. That's in your house. This is our house so that's where we put the glasses and the cups."

"Oh, that makes sense," Emiya seemed to finally gain some clarity, "But I don't need cups since there are glasses there so why are there cups there too?" Or not.

Fon's patient smile appeared on his face, "Because in our house, we put the glasses and the cups together."

Fortunately, actually getting the glass and then filling it water for the girl to drink wasn't as confusing to the girl as the previous minutes were.

Unfortunately, another problem arose when it was it was time for her to get back to her temporary room.

"'m tired…dun wanna climb 'tairs…" the girl mumbled as she trudged towards the living room couch and crashed there, face down. The girl was mumbling in English. Although Fon could understand English, he could barely make out the words as botched as it was right now.

Kyoya, who was lounging on an armchair with his pet bird, scoffed at that, "Speak clearly, stupid herbivore."

"Am not!" was the clear protest.

"Prove it. Speak clearly," Kyoya dared with a small scowl.

Emiya's answer was a light snore. It looks like the girl finally spent all her energy from this little adventure of hers. Unfortunately, sleeping mid-conversation offended Kyoya rather deeply and a tonfa appeared on his left hand.

"Kyoya, put that tonfa away. The girl is sick, you know that," Fon intervened immediately.

With another scoff, Kyoya's tonfa disappeared into his clothes as he redirected his attention back to his pet.

Fon then turned to his older brother, "And no, Alaude-nii-san, you shouldn't lock the door."

Alaude's brow twitched at that.

The pastry chef stared at the high school teacher for a few seconds just to enforce the not-order more before turning back to the girl sleeping on the couch. He sighed. He should carry her to the bed. That couch is uncomfortable.

Alaude's stiff neck is a testament to that.

Fon raised an eyebrow when Alaude unlocked the door to the latter's room, i.e. the room Emiya was temporarily occupying.

When the eldest Hibari swung the door in, he unexpectedly met resistance, like there was a weight against the door. Thinking it was a piece of furniture the upset girl had held against the door in protest of her 'imprisonment,' Alaude merely pushed harder.

A thud and then a whimper was heard just behind the wooden door the blond forcefully pushed.

"Emiya?" Alaude had never sounded so hesitant to Fon.

And then there was a tiny hiccup.

And then full-on wailing.

Alaude managed to squeeze himself in from the tiny opening of the door much to Fon's slight bewilderment. There was a small scuffle and some whispered/panicked/hissed words from Alaude behind the door before the sobbing became muffled.

"Fon," the eldest Hibari called in an urgent tone while the door opened a bit more, presumably by Alaude signaling Fon to come in.

The pastry chef managed to maneuver himself and the tray he was holding into entering the room without spilling said tray's content. What greeted him was the sight of Emiya sobbing into Alaude's shirt.

And the blond looking at Fon with wide-eyes, clearly asking for help.

The middle child merely smiled at the eldest (a rather sharp smile but who's to say it really was?) before saying, "I told you not to lock the door." Fon then placed the tray on the bedside table before walking out the room and closing the door behind him.

Leaving a certain teacher with his wailing student.

Honestly, what was Alaude thinking? Who wouldn't panic waking up locked inside an unfamiliar room?

.

i.e. why Kyoya thinks Natsumi is a stupid herbivore, why Fon is quite fond of his disciple's friend, and why Alaude stops whatever he is doing/about to do at the sound of his student whimpering.

.

Or the reason behind Natsumi's (dubiously) good luck with the Hibaris.
