This is one-shot story I wrote because of my love for Elden Ring. Heavy spoilers for Ranni's quest

"May I have a word?"

The first time Ranni met this particular Tarnished, she didn't know what to make of him.

There she was, sitting on top of the ruins of the Church of Elleh, eyeing the warrior before her. Although, calling him a warrior was an exaggeration. The boy looked like he barely passed his teenage years. His attire was strange too, she didn't recognize the robes he was wearing. They appeared to be made of silk that only a few noble houses of the past could afford, and yet they were torn and bloody. His weapon of choice was a simple staff and the Witch was sure the instrument wasn't powerful enough to cast truly fearsome spells.

However, despite his unassuming appearance, there was something about the Tarnished that concerned Ranni.

His purple eyes.

Ranni didn't know why…but she felt hypnotized by them. No, that wasn't right. She was mesmerized by the fire she saw in them. It was not one of madness that some of the living suffered from, nor was it a sickness of the rot. There was a fire in these eyes, a fire she could not quite understand, and it worried the Lunar Princess.

"I am the witch Renna. I'd heard tell of a Tarnished hurtling about atop a spectral steed. And upon looking into the matter, the talk I surmise is of thee. Thou'rt possessed of the power, no? To call forth the spectral steed named Torrent."

The raven-haired boy studied her, before lowering his head in a respectful nod. "You're absolutely right, Lady Renna. Torrent was in my care for a short amount of time, and yet his help was tremendous in my journey."

"Oh?" Was this Tarnished a noble in the past? That would explain his attire and mannerism. "And what does Tarnished such as yourself seek?"

The boy smiled. "I have come from the land outside the borders of this nation, all I wish is to return to my home. I do not know how or why exactly I was awakened here. Nevertheless, I'm not satisfied with the task I was given and desire to leave these lands."

So, this one was running away? A smart choice, all things considered. Ranni doubted that Godrick would leave this Tarnished alone. However, was he some noble or perhaps royalty from other nations outside the lands between? That was a rare occasion. Still, if that was the case, this one would require help to escape this devastated place.

"Ah, in that case, thee will require assistance in your journey." Ranni pulled out a Spirit Calling Bell. "I was entrusted with it by Torrent's former master. Tis a bell for calling forth spirits. Summon them with it, from ash unreturned to the Erdtree. They will thine command, as they recall battles past."

It was just one moment, but the Witch saw as Tarnished's eyes sparkled with glee. Ranni saw a similar expression on her brother Radahn in the past, wherever the general leaded his forces in the heart of battle.

"That's...the most helpful instrument I was gifted yet. Well, except Torrent of course." The boy smiled playfully. "Now I can avoid fighting myself."

The boy was arrogant if he thought he could best armies of the Lords of these lands with spirits alone. However, that wasn't Ranni's concern. She did her part and now was free to return to her own machinations. Still, the last warning might be helpful. If the boy won't listen to her, that was on him.

"I would recommend thee not to overestimate the strength of spirits, Tarnished. Legends some of them might be, they're but a mimic of the heroes. Controlling them is a task beyond their mere limits is a futile task."

"I appreciate your concerns, lady Renna. However, do not worry. I'm familiar with this kind of combat and not afraid of the hardship. After all," a cruel and yet staining smile formed on his face as he spoke the words that Ranni won't forget.

"If a King doesn't move, then his subjects won't follow."

And so, Witch met Warlock.

The second time Ranni met the strange Tarnished, she became even more confused...and a little frightened.

There she saw him, in her chamber on top of the tower that oversaw the Caria Manor. A place is well hidden from the underlings of Two Fingers or anyone else who will dare to challenge the Princess. And if they were strong and suicidal enough to reach her Rise, the local dragon should serve well to guard her.

However, the last thing she expected was to see the same weird Tarnished in her own domain. The boy with purple eyes stood before the Witch while she tried to make sense of what happened.

A significant time has passed since the day she first met that boy. Ranni was busy fulfilling her plans. Or at least trying to find any clue where to seek what she was after. Meanwhile, this Tarnished changed. Nay, change wasn't the right word. It felt more like the boy achieved his usual position.

Gone are the noble bloody robes made of silk. Now he was wearing black armour reminiscent of funeral steeds worn by Night's Cavalry. However, Ranni didn't get the impression of death from this attire. Instead, the purple and gold colours in-between made the Witch think of some character from a children's book about a knight, princess and dragon. The unusual helmet was a little bit similar to a giant eye that Sorcerer Lusat was the most bizarre part of his costume. It was big, but the royal black colour of this 'crown' made Ranni sure she won't forget how the boy looked.

"Mm? A Tarnished, here?" Ranni asked with surprise.

"Greetings, lady Renna." The raven-haired boy with his 'crown' in his hand spoke respectfully. "It has been a long time since we have seen each other."

Was it? For the Empyrean such as Ranni time was a forgettable matter. Century can pass as she sleeps. However, she was certain, less than a month passed since she first eyed this Tarnished.

"Hm, thou must have some business in mind, to come all this way. Especially, when thou were uninvited." The doll's body preferred to show only one expression, but for some reason this time Ranni couldn't help but show a little annoyance. The boy noticed it as he apologized.

"Forgive me for such transgression. However, I couldn't help but be drawn to these lands."

"Is that so? Then mayhaps fate hath steered thee to this encounter."

The boy smiled, slyly. "I don't think fate is behind me being here. Well, not in your domain anyway, your highness."

Ranni didn't miss the last part.

"...is that so?" she spoke carefully, eyeing the boy in the new light. He moved from a weird stranger to a potential enemy with just two words. "I see. Quite the sleuth, aren't we."

"Indeed, lady Renna." The boy partially sang her fake name. He didn't bother to hide what they both knew. "Since we met last time I spent time traveling these lands. The sights were sensational, but the inhabitants of these lands were to a lesser extent. During my journey, I have seen monsters that would make anyone tremble in fear. Sadly, while I wished to bypass an encounter with them, some fights couldn't be avoided. Such as my battle with the Queen of Lucaria's Academy. Nifty spell you made for her, may I say."

The time froze around the Tarnished as the light stopped coming into the chamber. Instead it was replaced with the dark moon that was quickly covering everything behind the Witch.

Ranni's body was nothing but a doll modelled after her mentor, unable to express everything she was feeling. But in that instance, it was enough to show the full magnitude of the Witch's ire. She was sure the deathly glare she sent was enough to scare Blaidd or even the likes of Rykard.

However, the person before her simply smirked.

"Do not worry, Lunar Princess Ranni. Queen Rennala is safe and well, still residing within the walls of the academy."

The dark moon disappeared behind Ranni, but her glare did not. "What a cruel joke. Mother wasn't well ever since that man left her. She is nothing but a husk of her former self."

A memory of her childhood comes back to Ranni. A time when she was as free as a child could be. A time before Shattering, before her final plan was fulfilled. A time when her mother was already beyond saving from the curse of a broken heart left by her father. Back then life wasn't as complicated. Ranni was yet to become a pawn for Two Fingers and Queen Marika.

However, that didn't matter right now. At present, Ranni's ire and worry were focused on the boy who somehow managed to best her mother. Killing him should not be a challenge. Ranni was leagues above her mother today, the mere Tarnished wasn't a match for Lunar Princess. But as if the boy had read her mind, he immediately raised his spare hand to stop her.

"Your highness, please. I didn't come here to torment you, let alone fight. Perhaps I wasn't careful with my wording, but please forgive me for making you stressed about your mother." The boy bowed. "I have come here to only discuss with your highness the matter of great importance to me. I want to learn more about the Night of the Black Knives."

Once again Ranni froze, this time not because of anger but because of shock. How? How did this Tarnished learn about that? A great secret she made sure to hide, even made preparations to frame Rykard. None would raise an eyebrow if the night of the foulest murder was connected to the blasphemous monster.

"How does thou know of such a matter?"

A small sad smile formed on his face. "Someone who is more talented in the matters of death rune told me this before...passing away. Princess Ranni, I have come here because I'm interested in learning how exactly you managed to make the same knives used to kill demi-god."

"Thou want to slay my kin? Why should I help some Tarnished?"

Ranni had no love left for her siblings. Both of her brothers, Rykard and Radahn had become monsters, no different from rabid animals. Mogh was hiding somewhere underground with poor Miquella. Malenia was silently rotting somewhere. At least Morgott tried to keep control and balance even if his efforts were futile in the end. If this boy truly wished to murder them, good luck. Having some blade, even powered by a death rune, won't be enough to beat them all.

However, if he wants to die trying to accomplish this task, all power to him. Ranni won't care if this impudent Tarnished died in the process.

"Very well, if thou wants to try defeating demi-gods, I shall-"

"Ah, but your highness, your family members aren't actually my main target. Of course, should the demi-gods become obstacles in my path, I will crush them. However, my main opponent at the moment is the same entity that is to blame for my being here. The two giant ugly fingers are the target of my plans, and therefore the Great Will is my enemy." The fire appeared in his purple eyes. The fire that promised vengeance.

"What-" Ranni couldn't hide the shock in her tone. Whoever this Tarnished was in the past, he made the Princess feel fear and awe. "Why?"

Why would anyone go against the Greater Will? Ranni had her reasons, but for the majority of the people, Tarnished especially, that was heresy. So why did this strange Tarnished want to challenge the dominant 'God' of these lands?

"Why? It is pretty easy, your highness." The boy smiled darkly. "I despise when others command me around. I do not care if it is the Lord or God itself. I am nobody's pawn and never will be."

These words made Ranni look at Tarnished differently. Hostility was forgotten, now she was interested in him. The memories of Godwyn and Queen Marika's cruel plan returned to her mind.

'I am nobody's pawn and never will be. That is something we can agree on, strange Tarnished.'

Despite being shocked by such a proclamation, Ranni couldn't help but feel amazement. Even if she won't admit it, having more anti-Greater Will people around was a welcoming change in the world.

"What does thou you want to know? Thou wish aligns with my goals, and therefore I see no reason to not assist you." Ranni wasn't fast to trust others, but something felt different about this one. Was it familiarity with his goal or desire to be free from the manipulative intentions of the Greater Will? She didn't know, but Ranni was willing to cooperate with him for the time being. That said, she didn't even know his name. That must be fixed. "But first, say thee a name, Tarnished."

The boy extended his hand. "My name means nothing in these lands. However, since we're in alliance from now on, you can call me Lelouch."

Their alliance, just Lelouch, was weird.

There she stood, in the middle of a small war room (Iji was the one who named it), as Lelouch was organizing her group. Ranni had to admit, he knew how to command people.

Apparently, Blaidd and Lelouch met before and the wolfman was glad to see him again. Something-something with hunting a bloodhound. Point is, her childhood friend and adoptive brother was "cool" with Lelouch as Blaidd phrased it. Ranni didn't know if it was a good thing.

Iji was friendly towards Lelouch as well, but that was given. Iji was nice to everyone, except Seluvis but that was given. Nobody liked Seluvis.

"May I remind you that you are merely a lowly Tar-"

"We might find this Nokron treasure in the Siofra River. I was there before and according to descriptions about the city from the books, I'm certain I saw Nokron like architecture." Lelouch didn't bother looking at Seluvis as he interrupted. Ranni did notice how the corners of his mouth rose up though.

"How dare you inter-!"

"Won't work, Lelouch. I already scouted the entire place. The River won't lead us to Nokron."

"Hey! I was talk-"

"The path to Nokron might become open once we will free the stars." Everyone turned toward Iji. "Lady Ranni's fate is bound to her star since she is the princess of the Carian Royal Family. Surely if we manage to free her star, it will lead us to Nokron."

"Free the star?" Lelouch looked confused. "Free from what exactly?"

Seluvis saw an opportunity to prove himself and show the raven-haired boy who is senior there. "Free from-"

"My brother Radahn had challenged the stars themselves. Upon victory, he made sure no celestial body will move ever again without his command." Ranni said quietly. "I don't know why Radahn did it. Mayhaps he knew that I might fight against his precious Greater Will and made sure I won't have a chance to do anything."

Lelouch said nothing, but Ranni something akin to compassion at that moment? His attention returned to the maps.

"If it is true then our objective is clear. We should defeat General Radahn and free your star, your highness." There was something embarrassing about being addressed in such a manner. No one was calling her like that, no one except Lelouch. "Thankfully, I have heard that the General will hold a tournament in his land. I also know a certain giant jar that might help us in the fight."

Iji sighed. "I'm afraid I cannot assist you in this matter. I'm not a fighter and will be just a hindrance to you, Lelouch."

Seluvis panicked. "I'm too can't-"

"I will go!" Blaidd happily announced, Ranni was sure her friend was beaming with excitement. "It will be a great fight, I'm sure of it."

Lelouch nodded before his gaze fell on her. Ranni didn't want to admit it, but there was something stunning about his clear purple eyes. N-not that she will ever say it aloud!

"Are you fine with this, Ranni?" Was it the first time Lelouch pronounced her name without a title? And why did he sound concerned?

'Wait, is he worried about me?' Is this because they are going to fight her brother? Such a matter wasn't an issue to Ranni. Radahn was part of her family long ago, but not anymore. Today he was but a beast. Although, it did make Ranni feel warm that someone was worried about how she might feel.

"Thou do not need to think of my concerns. My older brother is not one of them, Lelouch."

The Tarnished nodded. "Good, I don't want to make the princess cry over this. In this case, I promise to return with your treasure.

Ranni would not admit it to any living or dead, but the boy's smile made her face feel warm for unknown reasons.

However, it is Lelouch, the strangest person she ever met that made Ranni feel bewildered.

She felt it, the return of the stars.

The moment Ranni felt the fall of her star, she immediately understood what had transpired. The mad General was slain. One look outside her chamber was enough to witness the waterfall of the cosmos bodies that covered the sky. The Witch couldn't remember the last time she had seen them.

'It is...lovely.'

It didn't take long for the person behind such beauty to arrive in her chamber. Lelouch, strangest but at the same time most unique Tarnished Ranni ever met. However, Lelouch didn't arrive empty-handed. He had brought her the treasure of Nokron, Fingerslayer Blade.

"As I promised, I have returned with your treasure, your highness."

"That thou certainly did." Ranni thought she did a good job hiding her inner excitement, but the knowing smirk on Lelouch's face did little to calm her down. Once again, this Tarnished made her feel weird...but it wasn't bad. "Allow me to forewarn thee. I shall soon enter my slumber. And it will be some time before I wake. This doll's body is not without its hindrances..."

"Nothing of concern, I hope?" Lelouch raised an eyebrow.

"After slaying the body I was born with, I had to resort to this doll. I stole a fragment of the Rune of Death, and used it to forge the godslaying black knives through the fearsome rite. I did it all. The same blades were used to slay the soul of the first son of Queen Marika, Godwyn. The same ones I used to kill my body." Despite commenting on the crime she committed centuries ago, Ranni didn't feel shame. Instead, she was proud of her first victory against the blasted Greater Will.

As she spoke, Ranni couldn't help but feel like Lelouch was smiling rather proudly at her.

"Regardless, thou shall head over to Carian Study Hall and fetch a special rune for me. The same rune that helped me to forge black knives. We will reunite later."

Lelouch bowed again, even if it was obviously a mere act. "As you command, your highness."

"I am curious, why thou call me highness? I have discarded my lineage long ago."

"Oh really? Is that why you left strong magic to guard your mother?" Lelouch smiled slyly. "To me, it seems, despite your plans, you didn't forsake your family entirely. However, if your highness does not like being addressed as such, I shall call you by your current title. Ranni the Witch...Of course, in return, I will ask to be called by name as well."

"Thou know nothing of my plans." Ranni had a grand design for this world. What a mere Tarnished could understand. And yet..."But since thou have proven thou self, I shall reward thee and humour this wish, Lelouch."

Once again, he smiled slightly. However, unlike before Ranni felt the warmth from inside her as she witnessed Lelouch's smile.

Their next meeting happened sooner than Ranni ever expected.

Ranni knew that Two Fingers sent shadows after her. She expected this. The rotten Greater Will wasn't going to let her be free, not forever at least. If the Witch wanted to achieve her goal and dream, she needed to deal with them herself.

And that is why the mighty Ranni the Witch was currently hiding in Ainsel River, transformed into the form of the miniature doll of herself.

Her plan seemed better in her mind. She thought that lurking shadows in the river would allow her to ambush them. What she did not expect was to be stuck in some coffin for Moon knows how long. Ranni was patient, but even demi-gods will run out of patience. Why can't the damn shadows find her quicker?! However, mayhaps the Moon heard her frustration because soon she was picked gently by the hands of the one she didn't expect to see there.

"My, my. What a sight. The little doll that looks like Ranni the Witch." Lelouch didn't bother hiding mockery in his tone. "How does your excellency even come up with such an idea?"

"Oh? A dogged fellow, aren't we? Or is it merely thy habit, to talk to dolls?" small Ranni fought the urge to freeze her ally while Lelouch gently poke her face with his finger. "Fine...fine. I hadn't expected any soul to recognize me in this guise. But now the cat is out of the bag, I cannot allow thee thy freedoms. Perform for me a service, as recompense. Eliminate the Baleful Shadows which prowl these lands. The name of Ranni the Witch is already sullied by thee."

"Sullied? By me? Ranni, please I have no idea what are you talking about." The damn smirk on his face did nothing to support his words

"S-silence!" Ranni was already embarrassed that Lelouch of all people saw her in such a state. At least shadows will be killed. Ranni couldn't do the same to him. "I will not break disobedience in this matter."

Despite apparently being a cruel sadist who enjoyed tormenting little dolls, Lelouch did as she asked. The shadow that was sent after Ranni was slain. It wasn't a surprise that the said shadow looked like an exact copy of Blaidd, something Lelouch immediately noticed.

However, it was also the first time Ranni saw Lelouch in combat. The boy didn't give her an impression of a seasoned warrior who would run into battle. And she was right. Lelouch's fighting style was similar to the mages in the Carian Academy. He would use magic and incantations Ranni hadn't seen before to fight from a distance. Meanwhile, his summoned spirits would be the ones fighting in close quarters. However, what truly shocked Ranni was the number of spirits Lelouch could summon and the way he commanded them.

It was as if Lelouch was moving chess pieces. He commanded his spirits with a cold and commanding tone, ordering the exact position they should take to strike their foe. And the numbers. Ranni knew that some stronger individuals can summon multiple spirits at once. Her mother was an example. However, somehow Lelouch was able to summon dozens of different spirits at once, all different in nature but all obediently following their Lord's commands. And the way he moved and spoke as if the avatar of war itself was on the battlefield.

Needless to say, her opinion of the boy changed after travelling with him for a short amount of time. Especially his flamboyant moves, as if Lelouch was trying to show off in front of someone. However, Ranni also noticed that Lelouch still struggled at moments when enemies went after him instead of fighting his 'pawns', forcing Tarnished to fight himself.

Soon, the two found a resting place at nearby grace. There, Ranni decided to speak and reveal more of her plans.

"Let us speak of the past, a while. I was once an Empyrean. Of the demigods, only I, Miquella, and Malenia could claim that title. Each of us was chosen by our own Two Fingers, as a candidate to succeed Queen Marika, to become the new god of the coming age. Which is when I received Blaidd. In the form of a vassal tailored for an Empyrean. But I would not acquiesce to the Two Fingers. I stole the Rune of Death, slew mine own Empyrean flesh, casting it away. I would not be controlled by that thing. The Two Fingers and I have been cursing each other ever since... And the Baleful Shadows... are their assassins. I turned my back on the Two Fingers and we each have been cursing the other since. The Baleful Shadows... are their assassins."

"That shadow, he looked like Blaidd."

Ranni nodded. "Even when I turned my back upon the Two Fingers. Blaidd remained my loyal ally. Heh. Though he was created a vassal for an Empyrean. He was a colossal failure, on the part of the Two Fingers. Blaidd, and Iji both... Art willing to give too much to me. Yet they both understand. What lieth beyond the dark path... That I must betray everything, and rid the world of what came before"

The Witch paused as she eyed Lelouch once again. Her new ally was the most useful and helpful person she met in eons. Blaidd and Iji were her dear friends, but without Lelouch, she wouldn't come this far. And even if the flamboyant boy was a weird one and annoying at times, Ranni couldn't deny that he too became a close friend to her...O-only a friend!

"A-Ah, should I add thee to the list? Another one, kind of heart. As kind of h-heart as they." Small Ranni did not understand why she stuttered or why saying these words made her chest feel strange in a funny way.

"Hmm, of course, if that's what my lady wants, who am I to say no?" Lelouch's smile did not calm down Ranni in any way. "However, since we have come this far and alone, I would like to ask something. What exactly do you want to do, Ranni? I studied the books of the past, reading about you and other demi-gods. I have come to learn that every Lord has some kind of plan in mind for these lands. And I'm curious, what is yours, Ranni the Witch?"

For some reason, she wasn't surprised that Lelouch suspected something like this.

"I take it thou'st noticed? I shouldn't be surprised. I thought I might expound a little further... Upon the order I envision. Mine will be an order not of gold, but the stars and moon of the chill night. I would keep them far from the earth beneath my feet. As it is now, life, and souls, and order are bound tightly together, but would have them at great remove. And have the certainties of sight, emotion, faith, and touch... All become impossibilities. Which is why I would abandon this soil, with mine order."

Lelouch listened to her carefully. He could see what she meant, Ranni could feel it.

"I have come from this distant land, nothing like this place. However, despite being unfamiliar with these lands at first, I could immediately see that everything was wrong here." Lelouch stared at his hands. "I'm what they call Tarnished, someone who should have been dead. But yet, here I'm, still breathing when I should be, when I don't deserve to." Ranni's eyes went wide at this comment.

'What.'

"The beings, the monsters that occupy these lands, feel wrong. Corpses are stuck in time, unable to die. Lords that mockery of their former self." Lelouch remembered Radahn who was known as a mighty General or Rennale, a wise Queen of Carian Academy. Both reduced to a mess he had to fight and best to achieve his own goal. "When we first met, I lied to you, Ranni. I have no intentions to return to my homeland, not when I will be unwelcome there. Heh, my play left an awful impression on everyone I knew. The last thing they need is to see the dead man walking."

Ranni didn't know Lelouch's life story, however, she knew him to some extent. In the time the weird boy spent in her life, the Witch could see that he was unlike anyone else. Again and again, he managed to surprise her, bring her what no one else could, free her. Ranni was not a saint, but she wasn't a cruel monster either. She could hear the pain in his voice as he spoke about his homeland.

"Lelouch, what is thou wants to do now? I can see that thee does not wish to return home. And yet, thou continues to fight the lords of lands in between. What do thee want to achieve, Lelouch?" Ranni asked with a gentle tone. Her ally felt sorrow and she wanted to know how she might help him.

"...When I woke up, all I knew was that this Greater Will wanted me to act as its champion, that's what everyone told me. And yet, the more I learned about this place, the more disgusted I became. This land, this world is wrong, rotten to its core. The people are nothing but husks. There is no life, only death and suffering. The Rulers of these lands are the same. Monsters like Godrick do nothing but cause more misery to everyone around them. It makes me sick." Lelouch didn't bother hiding the venom in his voice. "This land insults my nature, a stagnated reality where the supposed God does little to fix this mess and save its people. This Greater Will, despite being believed to be a God, failed miserably at its task."

Ranni listened to him, frozen. What he was saying, his anger and insults directed towards the world and Greater Will-

'They are no different from mine.' Ranni left her small doll form some time ago, now she was her usual size self. She didn't know when exactly it happened, but the Lunar Princess lost herself, listing the words of foreigners who spoke what was on her mind for ages.

"Everyone talks about fate and how everyone has a mission, but I find it nothing but excuses. There is no such thing as fate. Only people who don't have control over their lives would transfer responsibilities to some mystic force. This is wrong. To be free means to have control over destiny, not letting some magical force command it. Ranni the Witch, if you desire to change this world, this order, to cut down so-called fate and let people be free. Then-" Lelouch offered her his hand. "I shall assist you in this rebellion against the Greater Will, against this dead Order and see your vision come to fruition."

Purple eyes stared deeply at her blue ones. Now Ranni was speechless. How couldn't she?! Here was the person who created a miracle and assisted her so far. She already thought of Lelouch as a dear comrade, but this? This...changed Lelouch's value in her eyes and heart.

"I-I...I shall use thou to achieve my goal, Lelouch." Ranni finally said as she took his hand, unable to suppress the warm, funny feeling in her stomach as she did. "However, do not think that it is thankless employment. I will repay thee for thou service beyond thou imagination."

Lelouch waved away. "I have no desire to achieve anything beyond fixing this dead world. That alone is enough for me. After everything I have done in my previous life...I cannot wish for a reward anymore."

"Oh?" There was a story Ranni would like to learn one day, but that was for later. Since the first day they met, Ranni knew something weird was about Lelouch. Now when they spoke, she could see guilt and something bothering the boy even if he tried to fight it. That won't do. but it was a battle she will win later. "Regardless, we have work to do. I shall return to my slumber for time being-"

"Actually, I thought it might be better for us to continue travelling together. Of course, without hiding as a small doll, Ranni." she raised an eyebrow before Lelouch elaborated. "I won't lie, I have a hard time fighting the monsters that roam these lands. Spirits and weapons help me, but I'm not a strong warrior. I need a companion who will assist me on my journey. And you can use some adventuring, your highness. If your wish is to change the world, you must fight for it just like everyone else fights for their very life."

"Is that a command from thou?" Ranni wasn't angry, instead, she felt interested in such an idea.

"Of course not, my lady. However, if your opponent is the world and the current order of things, staying in the shadows while others fight for you isn't the most pleasing way to accomplish your goal."

"Pleasing thou say, huh?"

"Indeed, remember what I said when we met for the first time? If a King doesn't move, then his subjects won't follow. You're the Lord of these who entrusted their lives to you. Even if that number consists only of Iji, Blaidd and now me, it doesn't mean you shouldn't fight your own battles. Because otherwise, what is the difference between you and Greater Will?"

"Is that so?" Ranni didn't like the comparison, but she will not disagree with Lelouch's logic. "And isn't it just an attempt to lure me to fight for thou as well."

A playful smirk formed on his face. "I wouldn't wish for such a miracle, but I won't deny that such an image would be welcome."

"...Is that so." Now Ranni was confident it was both, but at the same time, she couldn't deny a small part of her was intrigued by his idea. "Truly, I didn't remember the last time I actually journeyed on my own."

"Then it will be an eye-opening experience for you, Ranni. And I promise your rebellion against the Golden Order will become a sweater as you travel and fight everything that stands for it."

She felt like Lelouch knew a lot about playing a role in the rebellion. "Speaking from experience?"

"Wouldn't you like to know? But I'm not against sharing some plans and experiences of fighting against the Gods for you to implement my old strategies, partner." Lelouch offered her his hand once again. However, this time the meaning behind this gesture was way, way different.

Even on her pale blue skin, a pink shade might form as Ranni blushed upon hearing the last word.

"P-p-partner-?!"

"Of course. After all, aren't we allies who want to challenge the very 'God' of this land and anything that will stand before us? Therefore, we're partners in crime." Lelouch quickly understood what effect his words had on Ranni. The poor blue Witch was shaking, her sole eye was looking at his face with such intensity, the Warlock was sure she might faint any moment. He found it quite adorable.

"Oh, I see. Of course, thou makes perfect sense. Yes."

Ranni quietly said as she took his hand. The pact was sealed, Witch and Warlock had become partners in crime.

Their travelling might have started from the tragedy...if Lelouch didn't surprise Ranni once again.

When they returned to her manner, two were greeted by the sight of Blaidd waiting there, happily surrounded by corpses of assassins sent by Two Fingers. Ranni didn't understand, she always knew the true nature of her adopted brother. That he was a secret weapon against her, created by Two Fingers in case she will disobey them. Ranni did turn away from them, but why didn't Blaidd become the burden of Empyreans as Greater Will warned?

Also, was Ranni seeing things or were Blaidd's pupils covered by a red circle?

"Oh hey, Ranni, Lelouch. How are you?" Blaidd innocently waved at them while Ranni tried to understand what was going on,

"Doing pretty good, managed to convince lady Ranni to accompany me on my, sorry, our journey."

Ranni didn't know what was worse, the way her body jolted with joy when Lelouch said that, or how Blaidd looked at them. The damn wolf was grinning!

"Really? Hehe-"

Ranni clenched her four fists. "What are thou doing here, Blaidd? I mean...I did not expect for thee to remain with a clear mind after..."

"Heh, don't worry sis. I myself am unsure to what happened, but thanks to Lelouch I'm able to stay calm. I don't know what your Lelouch did, but he somehow made me remain in control of my mind. I do remember that his eyes turned red for a second, weird, eh?" Blaidd happily said while Ranni stared at Lelouch with an astonished look, again. "Anyway, since you're two love birds are going on honeymoon, I don't want to be a third wheel-"

"Halt!" Ranni shouted, surprising them both. Her usually cold blue face felt like it was on fire. What in the Moon's name was her brother saying?! Love birds? Honeymoon? She and Lelouch weren't mar-

...

Actually, thinking about everything that happened until after she met Lelouch, Ranni started to think about their current partnership. After all, this boy managed to make her wish come true, and gave her everything Ranni needed to be truly free. He shared her wish to change this world into something better, to destroy the old Order and replace it with hers. Now turns out, Lelouch also helped her adopted brother and saved Blaidd from going mad. All of these achievements and future ones surely will be enough for the Princess to consider changing Lelouch's position hereafter. Perhaps, it might be the best route for their relationship to blossom into something more.

Something eternal.

"...Thou shall not be so careless, Blaidd. Two Fingers might have failed to use thee against me. However, I doubt Greater Will will stop now. That includes Iji as well." If Seluvis will be killed by assassins, then nothing of value will be lost. "I need to find a place where thou can hide for a time being."

"I might have a solution for this issue." As always, somehow Lelouch had an answer. "Tell me, how hard will it be to transport Blaidd and Iji to Roundtable Hold?"

Blaidd smirked. "Roundtable Hold, eh? I always knew that you're a bold one, Lelouch. But this one tops anything I expected from you."

Ranni had to agree with her only likeable brother. "I agree with Blaidd. Roundtable Hold is a safe place on its own. However, it is also a residence of Two Fingers, albeit it is only meant to communicate."

A wicked smile formed on Lelouch's face. "Then it is a good thing we have something that will help us to cut them down. Right, Ranni?"

The Witch won't deny, she was feeling some cruel satisfaction knowing that now she was capable of dealing with the cursed Two Fingers, thanks to Lelouch again.

"Thee are right, Lelouch. However, first I shall cut my own adversary. Then I can deal with one in Roundtable Hold." Ranni looked at Lelouch with shining eyes, thinking of something else he might do in the meantime. "Lelouch, I have another request for thou. Could you please visit my mother and withdraw something for me from Lucaria Grand Library?"

Before their journey together might start, there was a matter of dealing with Ranni's problem in the form of the Fingers that were assigned to her.

Meanwhile, Lelouch was given the task to bring her a ring. A ring similar to one her good for nothing father gave to her mother...

Ranni sat patiently, motionless in the deep cave of Moonlight Altar. She heard the roar of a dragon from the top of the Altar, good. Lelouch was there. Minutes passed as her chosen one made his way toward her. He stopped the moment he saw her bloody dull body and the corpse of Two Fingers behind. A worry appeared in his eyes when Ranni didn't move upon seeing him. This warmed her heart, but Ranni couldn't do anything at the moment. Everything was in Lelouch's hands, for him to free her in every sense.

Lelouch pulled out a Dark Moon Ring. She asked him to bring it to her, in his mind Ranni most likely needed it after killing Two Fingers. Little did he know about the true nature of this ring.

As he carefully put it on her finger, Ranni barely managed to hold the sea of emotions she didn't know she even had. This was it. A moment Ranni didn't know she wanted. She was free from the Greater Will, she could finally make her grandiose vision of this world a reality. Replace old with new, Gold with Moon.

With Lelouch by her side.

Before Lelouch could even raise up, Ranni materialized in her regular form, clean from blood. He didn't have a moment to say anything as she closed the distance between them and pressed her cold blue lips against his. He was shocked. Great, it was time for her to surprise her Lelouch.

'My, it is right. Now thou is mine for eternity, Lelouch.' A playful Cheshire smirk formed on Witch's face. The moment Lelouch saw it, he remembered a similar expression that another witch often made.

Their first kiss didn't last long. Unlike Ranni, Lelouch needed to breathe. The moment they broke off their kiss, Ranni saw the blush on his face. The always stoic Lelouch was now embarrassed because of a simple kiss. Nay, this wasn't a mere kiss, this was a proclamation of the union. The one Ranni was going to oversee forever.

Seeing him stunned, Ranni now knew the taste of being the one to push his buttons. Needless to say, she liked it and wanted more. And more she will receive, on their grand journey. The Witch raised her four hands towards him.

"Shall we depart on our journey, my one and only lord?

And so, their 'honeymoon' started.

The journey to replace the dying Golden Order wasn't a short one.

First, Lelouch had to learn how to use her wedding gift. Dark Moon Greatsword is bestowed by a Carian queen upon her spouse to honour long-standing tradition, the tradition Ranni followed. Her consort wasn't used to a sword of this size and therefore had a hard time learning how to use it. It was quite an image to see always stoic and cool Lelouch, struggling to even lift Greatsword. Soon he managed to use it in battle, but Ranni will not forget his embarrassing expressions from the times he trained with her gift.

Witch and Warlock travelled from the swamps of Lucaria all the way to Leyndell, Royal Capital. Numerous enemies stood in their way. However, with Ranni's control over ice magic and Lelouch's experience in battle as a strategist, the couple didn't have a hard time. As they made their way to the capital, Ranni finally saw her step-siblings Mohg and Morgott, before they were killed. Although, in the case of Mohg, he needed to be fought again in his domain underground.

Ranni also made sure to cut loose end Rykard in Volcano Manor. The old serpent should have been put out of his misery a long time ago. Apparently, her older brother reminded Lelouch of someone from his past. Someone who sickened her consort beyond control. After her brother was covered in ice and shattered into tiny pieces, Lelouch commented something about some Charles fella and him burning in hell. Ranni did find it rather cute how Rykard's mistress, Tanith, wished to consume the corpse of her brother and become his new vessel. It was as romantic as it was delusional. Although looking at Lelouch, Ranni could see where Tanith was coming from. Still, that didn't stop them from slaying Tanith too, just to be safe.

As they travelled, Ranni noticed that Lelouch started to behave differently around her. Of course, it had to do with her declaration to spend her future with him, as a spouse. She liked how her consort would turn into an embarrassed mess. What Ranni did not like, however, was how Lelouch would try to convince her it was a bad idea. From his words, Ranni had come to a scary conclusion.

Lelouch was like her mother. Unable to move from the past trauma, stuck because of something that he has done and cannot forgive himself for it. Lelouch did not have plans for himself beyond helping her fix this world. And he especially did not see himself as someone who should be rewarded, considering his past crimes whatever they might be. Ranni did not understand or care. She found it rather hypocritical for Lelouch to claim to give this world a better future and a chance to start anew when he himself didn't intend to do the same.

Well, nothing she can't fix with enough time and persuasion. In the end, Ranni achieved her goal. Even the cold heart of her Warlock will open with enough love, care and physical contact. Something both were unfamiliar with before (Ranni didn't know her four arms would come in handy during their lovemaking, but Lelouch certainly didn't complain). Turns out that when Lelouch considers someone as an important person, Warlock become a quite attentive lover.

Besides going around and killing her family members, they would also assist whatever people Lelouch came in contact with and wanted to help. This ranged from a loudmouth jar who would get stuck in the ground, to a redhead without one arm. The said redhead made Ranni feel a new emotion she never knew but was sure her mother understood completely. Jealousy. Thankfully, this jealousy didn't last long enough, just like that redhead. Lelouch didn't show it, but he was saddened by the death of Millicent. That sadness would be replaced by fury and irritation when the two will face Ranni's only sister Malenia.

Somehow, Ranni and Lelouch would find themselves in Deeproot Depths. Not the most pleasant place, filled with the least pleasing creatures. Especially that whore Fia who was resting next to the corpse of Ranni's first victim, Godwyn.

"Do you want to be held like before?" were the last words the deathbed companion uttered before ice magic pierced her body and ended her life.

Ranni could feel a questioning look from her consort. "Do not cry over her death, my dear lord. I know who she is and what she wants. This woman wants to birth something this world might have needed if I did not plan to change this realm according to my design. Besides, I do not tolerate cheating in any form, Lelouch."

"Ranni." Lelouch didn't sound angry, rather disappointed. On their journey, Warlock had come to the conclusion that his partner was rather an overprotective type. "I have no intentions of betraying you."

"Good, I will not allow you anyway." a sincere smile she sent his way convinced Lelouch she meant it.

Every journey must come to the end and so did theirs.

Two stood before the entrance to Erdtree. Beyond the burned roots was their last obstacle before two can change the world into something better.

Ranni took Lelouch's hand and gently squeezed it. He could feel her uneasiness.

"You're nervous," Lelouch whispered, stroking her hand and trying to reassure Ranni. "Everything will be fine, we will prevail over your father. Everything you did led you here. Now is time to finish your rebellion, Ranni the Witch."

"Is this a mere sweet lie before the final battle? I heard that commanders would use it to boost the morale of their soldiers. Surely someone like thee did the same in your old battles."

Lelouch smirked. "The power of the king is to make wishes of people come into reality, create miracles. So far I managed to create miracles for you, Ranni. Do you trust me?"

"Absolutely," Ranni said with determination before the two entered the Erdtree.

The final battle for the rulership over these lands wasn't painless. Her father, or rather husk that once was Radagon put up a grand fight. However, the true challenge was the last obstacle Greater Will placed before the two. The Elden Beast was many things. Giant, fast, powerful, fucking annoying with his constant running away according to Lelouch. But in the end, they won. The Beast was slain and now everything was in their hands.

"The battle is over, Lelouch. It is time." Ranni spoke before she summoned the symbol of her new Order. A dark moon formed behind, covering everything safe for the Witch and her Warlock. "To every living being, and every living soul. Now cometh the age of the stars. A thousand year voyage under the wisdom of the Moon Here beginneth the chill night that encompasses all, reaching the great beyond. Into fear, doubt, and loneliness... As the path stretcheth into darkness."

"Sounds rather ominous," Lelouch commented while Ranni looked at him with a loving gaze. Warlock turned away. "Do you truly intend to go with this consort business? You know nothing of my past, of what I did to my loved ones. I'm not a saint, Ranni. I'm the Demon."

"If thou want to share thou past, I shall listen. I welcome thee with open arms regardless of thou crimes, Lelouch." Ranni walked towards him, carefully taking his face into her four hands. "The eternity together is upon us, my dear consort. We will have all the time in the cosmos. Tell me anything that troubles thou mind, I will calm thou and embrace thee no matter what. Well then. Shall we depart? My beloved consort Lelouch, eternal."

I pre-ordered Elden Ring and finished it last week, with the best ending. Ranni's one.

It is a great game and I recommend everyone to try it. Probably my favourite Souls game (even tho I haven't play Bloodborne yet). This game was so good, I wanted to write fanfic and so I did.

It is Code Geass crossover because I think it is an interesting idea. I think having Lelouch in Souls game will be a fun idea. It is one shot but if anyone wants, they can adopt the story. Also, Lelouch armour is basically Zero armour from Nighttime of Nunnally. He uses int build and can summon dozens of spirits to fight for him because I think that's the most fitting fighting style for Lulu.

It is ER spoiler heavy fanfic. I also watched a lot of theory videos. Also, I know that Ranni's ending in English version wasn't translated properly, but I couldn't find the entire script.

I did change some stuff from Ranni's quest, such as pacing. Saved Blaidd with Geass. Made Ranni travel with Lelouch because he needs additional help to beat ER. Also, ok I did make Ranni more yandere-ish toward the end. Well, sue me I love yandere waifus! Plus I think yandere Ranni is possible considering her mother couldn't move over her father leaving her. Because of her parents and that Ranni will leave mortals with her consort player, I can see her acting yandere like. (Btw no hate on Fia, I just feel like Ranni will hate her because of Godwyn business)

Anyway, I hope you liked it. It is one shot I decided to write for fun because I loved the game so much.
