So this could have been posted a hell of a lot earlier if I hadn't got distracted on a Smaug fic I'm now working on, and several other Divergent fic too…

Also there's so much that's happening at this point in the story that it's a bit overwhelming. There's five outtakes that run alongside these events (that have happened/will be happening).

Thank you for all the reviews/follows/favourites!

Issy starts to back away as tears collect in her eyes and her legs tremble beneath her. The echoing screams of others in the infirmary pound against her and Issy bumps into a few people as she takes a few more shaky steps away. Vex's arm is outstretched in her direction but the words that fall from his lips are silent while the multiple screams become louder and louder.

As her eyelids flutter shut, it feels like Issy's floating until something hard slams against her ribs and she blacks out.

When Issy's eyes flutter open, her shoulder is numb, and the side of her head feels like someone's slammed a sledgehammer against it. There's soft fabric beneath her skin that she recognises as one of the infirmary beds. A grimace settles on her face at the fact of being in the infirmary; Issy wanted nothing more than to curl up underneath the covers on her own bed and forget the last few hours…

The chaos of nothing more than just a few hours had ripped through the faction and left them in disarray.

Issy shifts on the bed, wondering if anywhere else hurts like hell but there's just an ache pulsing through her body. After her body moves, a chair scrapes against the ground. Someone leans over her and Issy squints up at them, trying to clear her blurry vision. As she blinks slowly, Issy huffs in annoyance and closes her eyes again, rolling her head away from whoever it was.

Cold fingers gently grip Issy's jaw and tilts her head back as another cold taps the side on her face. Issy answers with a low groan. The hands move away from her face when her eyes open again.

"Keep your fucking cold hands away from me." Issy whispers and someone chuckles.

"There she is."

The cold fingers ghost lower down and lightly jab her shoulder. Issy half-heartedly slaps the hand away.

"Stop it!" Issy groans again at Vex's voice. "I need to check your injuries, you idiot."

"Then warm your hands up, you asshole!" Issy snaps back as she fidgets away from him.

Vex growls, entering her line of sight again. There's a slight snarling curling at his lips. "I won't hesitate to knock you out if you don't work with me soldier!" Issy huffs, rolling her eyes. "You would have had severe injuries if I hadn't of caught you when you passed out."

"Thanks I guess."

Vex hisses back something in reply but the door to her room opens and Kayden limps in slightly. Issy's heart soars to see him alive.

Kayden smirks at her from the end of her bed. "Why is it somehow we always end up here with you?"

"Haven't got a fucking clue." Issy shrugs, and hisses as pain flares in her shoulder.

"Shitting hell," Vex snarls as he moves to inspect her shoulder. "You're worse than a child."

Issy sticks her tongue out in response.

Kayden doesn't speak as Vex continues to check her injuries and when the doctor is finished muttering to himself like a mad scientist. Vex stared at Issy for a long while before he started to speak. "While your injuries seem to be improving, I will still suggest you rest for another day or so."

As Vex began to leave, Issy pushed herself up by her elbows. "Doc, I've only been out a few hours, how bad can it be?"

Vex stopped at the door and turned to stare at her. "Issy, you've been unconscious for three days. From my knowledge and comment made from your family, I think you collapsed due to exhaustion. A few more days rest will do you good." With that, Vex left the room after nodding once to Kayden.

Issy was still staring at the space where Vex had been. "But I thought it –" She shook her head and looked to Kayden with wide eyes. "What happened?"

Kayden sat in the chair by Issy's bed and frowned. "The report says you collapsed by Sam's bed, who's still being restrained and watched twenty-four seven. I can't imagine what he's going through right now." Kayden rubs his face. "All our family's been accounted for, some injuries but all doing well. since you've been out, there's been a few things happen… Josh got his apartment upgrade, and with the help of his brothers and Bree, he's been moving everything over and child proofing the apartment. Cas has been staying with Jason while they get it all sorted."

"That's great." Issy smiled, pleased that Josh could keep his godson.

"Yeah." Kayden chuckles slightly. "There's been so much that's happened just recently that it's just mind boggling… Would you like the short version or the long version?"

"Long version please."

Kayden sighed dramatically, eyeing her with mockful distaste. "I knew you'd say that." He clicks his tongue and winks at her. "So, where to start… Ah! Your squadron, along with others that have captains or members in the infirmary, have been chosen to clear the hallways that were affective in the bombings. Some corridors are now useable again. The other squadrons have been stepping up Dauntless' defences here and on the front while also trying to protect the other factions at the same time. The Leaders are busy as fuck… Lilah's been having to work out how much points some members need from the housing insurance so they can fix any damages that happened."

Issy frowns, her nose scrunching up as she tries to understand what he's on about. "I'm sorry, what? Housing insurance? What's that? Do I have that?"

Kayden chuckles. "Yeah, you have housing insurance. Its automatically applied to everyone once they pass initiation. Lilah will calculate the income of the members in the household, calculate the damage done from the form the members sent in and then she'll send out an email to them to say what amount they will receive. The members can accept it, or they can negotiate if they think it's not enough to cover the work."

"How do I apply?"

"You should have been one of the first cases… Lilah saw the damage done in the control room and had received reports from Eric about any other damage done inside. You've probably already received an email about what amount you've received."

"Oh," Issy takes a note to find her phone – not her phone, that still needs charging…. Her tablet! Issy will find her tablet and check her emails later… "What about the other Leaders?"

"I don't know if Winnie said anything when you and Josh visited her, but she's unfortunately got orphans from the attack… Some groups of siblings who obviously won't want to be separated, single children… Her first call is getting the kids to the care centre, getting them checked for injuries and explaining what happened if they're old enough to understand. Then Winnie tries to see if there are any relatives that could take them, if not they'll be put in care."

"What if there are any relatives outside of this faction?"

"It's rare," Kayden rubs his face. "But it does happen if they are adamant they want the kids… Of course, its preferred they stay in Dauntless but it's what's better for the children at the end of the day. Liam, like Harrison, has got his units and soldiers stepping up the defences along the fence while keeping an eye out for any peculiar behaviour. Eric and his units have been working with Four and those in the control room, trying to find where Kim and her group entered the compound. None of the main exits were used so there's probably a few that slowly Dauntless has forgotten about. Cody's been scanning over old blueprints of the faction to see if there's anything Kim could have used." Kayden smiles slightly, but Issy sees how exhausted he really is. There must have been a hell of a lot of shit that happened while she was out. "It's chaos on the Leadership floor, it really is. Max is trying to juggle his own department with Kim's. thankfully though, there's been talk for a new Leader to take up Kim's position." Issy inhales softly and her eyes slip shut for a moment. Please not me! Issy thought as she opens her eyes again. She remembers Max's soft determination after her initiation, trying to get Issy to join Leadership. Either unaware of Issy's worry or choosing to ignore it, Kayden carries on. "While Eric's a bit iffy with the idea, I think Max wants Four for the position." As Issy sighs in relief, Kayden laughs at her. "Don't worry, Max knows you don't want it…" s

She could have sworn he said yet under his breath but Issy chose to ignore him. "But isn't Four comfortable in his position in the control room?"

"Yeah, but Blake or Zeke could easily take over for him."

"Wait." Issy puts her hand up as she attempts to sit further up. "How do you know all about the comings and goings of the Leaders?"

Kayden winks at her slightly. "When I hand reports to Liam or Max, they talk to me about it. Plus, Eric talks to Dec, who talks to the rest of the family about it. It's not hard to find out."

"So, basically, you're the floor's gossip?"

Kayden laughs again. "Something like that." He begins to stand up and dusts off his trousers. "I'm just going to see if we can get you outta here. Max is holding a funeral today for those that have fallen and –"

"I want to be there for Josh." Issy cuts across him and Kayden smirks.

"I know. Lemme go sweet talk Vex and I'll get you outta here."

Issy laughs quietly. "My saviour."

Kayden winks as he leaves the room.

xXx

It ended up being a lot of sweet talk on Kayden's part to get Issy out of the infirmary, and a lot of threats on Vex's part if Issy's injuries are worse when she comes back afterwards.

Kayden guided her to the Pit early so they didn't have to elbow their way through the crowd. They stopped on the outlook their family normally watched from whenever there were any faction-wide announcements from the Leaders.

Max smiled at them when he appeared on the balcony and Issy waved at him. Alec soon appeared after breaking ways with Lilah, who joined her dad on the balcony.

"Hey, Vex let you out?" Her twin said as he gently hugged her.

"Only for the funeral though." Issy shrugged and hissed when her shoulder flared.

As more members entered the Pit, more of their family appeared. Her brothers closed ranks even as Dec showed more excitement than an overgrown puppy. Issy grinned up at Josh, Jason and Cas, who sat on Josh's shoulders. Cas ducked his head against Josh's when numerous heads turned to the little boy. Though he waved shyly to Hugo when he broke away from Issy to stand by Josh. Bree, Noah, Flare and Cody joined the twins and Kayden. Issy hugged Flare without a word and Kayden huffed.

"I did tell you the family was all fine and accounted for." Kayden said.

"Seeing is believing." Issy responded back as she let go of Flare.

Flare rubbed Issy's uninjured shoulder. "Heard you nearly took a tumble into the Chasm."

Issy winced. "Yeah, not fun. Don't try it."

Flare snorted, causing Issy to smile. It was the first expression of amusement Issy had heard that wasn't sarcastic or forced after waking up. "Not planning to."

As the older members that made up their family joined them, all of the Leaders had gathered on the balcony, standing shoulder to shoulder. The members that had gathered in the Pit were silent with only small murmurs every now and then as they waited for Max to start.

While everyone, including Issy, thought Max would speak as the Head Leader, they were all surprised when Lilah started speaking. She didn't step out of the line of Leaders to separate herself from them but stayed with the others as a union of the faction.

"It is with heavy heart that so many of our faction had their lives taken from them in our own home." When Lilah said our, he gestured to the other Leaders, who nodded in agreement. "The attack we were subjected to was spontaneous and we were infiltrated by Factionless of the rebellion. Unfortunately, Kim betrayed the ideals of Dauntless and pawned off a lot of our weapons and armour to the rebels." There were various levels of shouting in rage of the news of a Leader becoming a faction traitor. In some of the members' faces, it was clear that there was mistrust for the current Leaders was blooming. "In light of this, there will be a public trial by the use of truth serum for all Leaders, assistants, and any others that could have effectively hidden plans for treason. Those that Kim recruited while she was a Leader, vanished with her." The crowds' shouts subsided, clearly surprised with Lilah's announcement. "We, as a faction, are a family and to see so many of our family attacked from behind by cowards and snakes. They deserve justice. You all deserve to have confidence in us as your Leaders to prevent this from happening again. The public trial will be held in Dauntless for all members to see and the trial will now be permanently a part of Leadership training."

Lilah lets the faction discuss the new information between themselves for a moment. Issy turns to her own family to see their reactions. Most are nodding, seemingly impressed with the decision from the Leaders. Four shifts and hugs Tris tighter to his chest. Number boy certainly appears more possessive of Tris, like someone would try taking her away from him and Issy's curious nature flares. An elbow taps her side and she looks to Cody. He raises an eyebrow as if to say not now.

The Pit falls silent again and they want for Lilah to start talking. Instead, Eric spoke up.

"We are a family," Eric repeats Lilah's words, glancing to her with a firm nod. "We go deeper than the ink beneath the skin of our tattoos. As warriors, we know that one day we'd all lay down our lives for this city, this faction. But what happened the other day was spineless and those that followed Kim in the raid aren't worthy of being Dauntless." Members shouted their agreement. "Those that fell at Kim and her lackeys' hand are brave. They stood for their faction under pressure. They will forever be remembered in our hearts. They names will be chanted in prayers and promises as we remind those bastards who we are." Eric stepped forward, his eyes hard and stormy as his gaze roamed around the room. "Who are we?" He asked the crowd.

A few members called out: "Dauntless."

Eric's lips curled up in a mall snarl. "I said, who are we?"

"Dauntless!" Everybody roared, including the remaining Leaders. Everyone's voices synchronised as one – as one body, one faction, one family.

"We will take back this city from the rebels that think it's okay to steal our children, murder our family. No more!" As Eric rallies the faction's hunger for the traitors that spilt innocent Dauntless blood, the young Leader doesn't notice Max staring at him with the proudest expression Issy's ever seen. "This rebellion will come to an end and at who's hand will it be?"

"DAUNTLESS!"

Eric steps back into the line of Leaders, nodding his head once. "We will avenge those that lost their lives and nobodies will forget it."

Max raises his hands up to calm the roaring and it takes a few moments for them to calm down. "Today we not only honour the lives that were taken from us, but the soldiers that stood up to the traitors –" Max starts to list off some names and they receive cheers after Max explains what they had done. "– Finally I would like to commend Cody Cropper –" Issy's family turns to him in surprise though Bree and Noah clap him on the back, winking at him as Cody blushes under the attention. "– for apprehending a traitor that had kidnapped my youngest, Livvie, from our home. Cody not only took on a man that was twice his size but also took him down without any harm coming to my daughter." Max smiled in Cody's direction. "Thank you."

As Issy loudly cheered with her faction and family for Cody's brave actions, Cody's blush deepened and Issy couldn't keep herself from laughing until her ribs hurt.
