Seraphina's POV
I finish reading a book I had taken from the library.
I toss it in the mountain of books I have already finished reading.
I roll my eyes, this castle is dreadfully boring, there's not much to do besides reading and training.
As I stare at the pile of books, I feel the urge to burn them hoping that will decrease my boredom.
I shake off the idea though, knowing if I were to burn them I wouldn't be allowed to borrow any more from the huge library.
Not to mention Alec will get angry at me.
Alec…
After our garden date not much has happened, he has been getting called to missions left and right.
I glare at nothing in particular.
We haven't even kissed!
Of course there had been moments when it almost happened but we were always interrupted.
Ugh did I want to burn those lowly guards whenever they intervened, of course the one responsible was always Aro since he was the one who called for him.
I could see Alec was also frustrated but he still went and did his duties.
I wish I could go with him on missions that would give us more time together but I'm still in my -cue eye roll- 'training phase'.
Aro and Alec believe I need to train on my physical strength before going on mission and although I agreed, begrudgingly I might add, I thought it would only last a few days but weeks have already passed by.
I wish I could travel, visit places, go anywhere I want.
But no, my routine has consisted of Training, reading books, chatting with Jane if she isn't on a mission, spend time with Alec when he isn't in a mission and feed.
I can't even taunt my victims and toy with them because they are easily given to me.
Of course I get fed either way, but at least I had some amusement in my life when I could do that.
If somebody would have told me a month ago that I'd be stuck in a castle not able to do anything, I would have laughed in their faces before watching them burn away.
But that's what love does.
It makes me stay.
I'm tempted many times to just grab my things and leave but when I think of Alec and our blossoming relationship my non existent heart aches.
Of course as the one responsible for my turmoil, I believe he should be the one responsible to fixing my boredom.
I leave my room and only take a few steps to reach my mate's room and gently knock.
Not a second passes and the door is opened.
"Hello, il mio amore." Alec smiles handsomely.
"Hello, finished with your mission?" I ask him.
Alec nods and lets me in.
I study the room, never having been here before.
It's as spacious as mine though the prominent color seems to be black with some red furniture. As for personal belongings he doesn't have anything but books, heh typical Alec.
I quickly realize something, "Where's your bed?"
I have one, how come he doesn't?
Alec quirks his brow, "As you know we don't need sleep so it seemed unnecessary to me."
True, Jane doesn't have one either.
"How come mine has one?" I ask, curious.
He shrugs, "Some vampires like to have them, to pretend to nap and feel human."
He turns his eyes to the side, bashfully, "Some… have them for other reasons."
I hold back a smirk, If he were human he'd probably be blushing.
"Oh? What reason?" I feign ignorance.
Alec glares at me, knowing me well enough to know I'm teasing him.
It seemed I found something to amuse me.
"You know what I'm talking about." He states.
"Oh? Do I?" I ask, feigning innocence and batting my eyelashes at him.
Before I can react, Alec pins me to the wall, his captivating crimson eyes staring right at me.
"You know you do." He says with his deep voice.
His cold touch electrifies my body and the need for his kiss increases.
His usual serious and unemotional face changes when he's with me and I can tell the way I affect him as well.
I can see love and lust in his gaze.
Of course old habits die hard and I can't help but retort back.
"Care to show me then?" I whisper back, seductively.
I can see the lust in his eyes increase and as he's leaning down to kiss me, the door opens.
"Brother, ha-" Jane manages to say before looking at us.
Oh I swear if it had been anyone else but Jane I would have burned them to a crisp.
I could feel Alec was sharing my feelings, as his hand on the wall tighten, forming fists.
"Apologies, I didn't mean to interrupt." Jane says and tries to leave.
I sigh, the moment already lost.
I stop her, Alec and I already giving each other some space. "It's fine, Jane. What did you need?"
She turns back and replies, "It's time for your training, I was going to ask my brother if he knew of your whereabouts."
I look at the clock and see it's afternoon.
Of course the dutiful Jane had to look for me and see I went and did my training.
I smile, "Well you found me."
Alec didn't seem to share my humor as he kept his eyes on the ground, and despite his calm demeanor I could tell he was seething inside.
Jane could see the same and says, "Although I can talk to Felix and see if it can be postponed for the next hour."
I'm about to accept when Alec says, "No, that will not be needed, sister. Seraphina will have her training session as it was planned."
I pout, seeing his decision had been made as much as it angered him.
"Allow me to see you both out." He says as gentlemanly as always.
He puts his hand on my back and guides me to his door and I fight with myself not to grab him and have a passionate kiss in front of his sister.
His touch soon leaves me when we reach the door, and he says to me, "I hope you have a good training session, mia amore." Before turning to his sister, "I will talk to you later, sister."
Jane's usual blank face quickly turn worried and she mutters, "Yes, brother."
Me and Jane start walking to the training room.
"Again I apologize for interrupting your intimate time together." Jane tells me.
I give a humorless chuckle, "Intimate? It wasn't intimate, we haven't even kissed yet."
Jane smiles at that, "My brother truly treasures you and wants to go slow and be gentle with you."
I get that, but it's been a month already. I just want him to kiss me already.
I think back to a moment from a few weeks ago. (Ch 3)
"Sorry, I don't kiss on the first date." I smirk at my handsome mate. "If this even counts as our first date."
His eyes gleam in lust and irritation while mine contain mischief.
"You are my mate." Alec tells me with hurt in his voice. "My soulmate, the one I have been looking for centuries."
"Y-you cannot reject me, not when I love and want you so much." He says, as his hand beside my head forms a fist.
"I'm not rejecting you." I tells him gently "I simply want to get to know you and see if this is real love and not some physical attraction."
He seemed to understand and respect my decision which made me happy but now it's too much!
A month has already passed since then and we have passed a lot of time together, we've already had 'dates' as well.
If you count hanging around the garden and reading together as dates anyway.
We soon arrive to the training room where Felix seems to have been waiting.
"You're late." He states.
"I like to be fashionably late, what can I say?" I smirk.
Felix continues to frown but doesn't argue probably not wanting to waste more time.
We take our stance and begin fighting.
After a few minutes I dodge most of his attacks and using my agile body, I duck and kick him in the legs making him lose his balance and fall, without missing a beat I have my hand at his throat.
"I win." I say with a smug smile.
Felix groans and I stand up, enjoying my win against him.
"That was lucky shot." Felix says.
"Now, now don't be a sore loser." I smirked. "I won and there's no change in that."
"How about you challenge me next?" I heard a familiar deep voice.
I turned to look at said vampire and it was my handsome mate, Alec.
I definitely feel intrigued, a few weeks ago he didn't even want Felix to practice with me and now he's volunteering himself.
"I'd love to." I smile, accepting the challenge.
Alec too smirks and gets in a fighting stance, I do the same.
We are eyeing each other, waiting for the other one to start.
Usually I'm not too patient and quickly rush to battle but seeing as its my mate, I don't mind eyeing him.
Not just to study his movements of course.
Alec decides to attack first as he runs to me in vampire speed, I manage to dodge his quick punch before quickly getting on his back.
He manages to use that in his advantage as he throws himself back first to the floor, crushing me under his weight.
Ugh, damn it!
Alec quickly turns around, pins me to the floor and is about to grab my throat which grants him victory.
No!
I touch his face and lean in, catching him off guard.
He freezes, our lips only centimeters apart before I grab his shoulders and switch our positions, me on top of him.
I smirk and quickly aiming for his neck.
He glares at me and before I can blink he grabs my outstretched hand and puts it behind my back.
"That was a dirty move, amore mio." he whispers in my ear before grabbing my neck, and winning our fight.
"Ugh!" I growled.
Alec puts some distance between us, his face blank again but I can see some smugness in his gaze.
Just you wait, I'll defeat you!
"Not even by using tricks you were able to beat him." Jane tells me.
"Don't rub it in." I glare at her.
"It did manage to distract him for a bit though, nothing usually distracts him so at least you have that." Jane says.
Hmm true, he's usually so focused. Who knew I would be able to distract him.
"You fought well, although I hope you don't use those tricks on anyone else." Alec says, possessiveness in his voice.
I smile and get close to him, "Don't worry, those 'dirty moves' are only reserved for you, love."
Alec smiles back at me and runs his hand through my crimson locks, and stares at me his love and care obvious in his features.
"Well training is over for today." Felix says, our moment once again interrupted.
"Oh? We usually train for a couple more hours, why the cancelation?" I ask him.
I would have usually teased him, if he's too scared to fight with me but seeing as Alec just defeated me that wouldn't have the same effect.
"I have a mission I need to complete, you're welcome to train with someone else though." Felix says before running off to do his mission.
I stare at the direction he left.
"I want to go on missions too." I whisper.
The boredom has been getting to me, and a mission could spice things up in my life.
"You're not ready." Alec states.
"Why not? I've beaten Felix." I argued.
"You need to beat more high ranking members to be able to go on missions." Alec answers.
"This is ridiculous." I scowl at him. "I have my gift, I can burn anyone as soon as they enter my vision."
"You're not the only one with special abilities, your enemy might have special abilities and if you are distracted they can grab you and kill you." Alec says, growing more agitated with each word he utters.
I roll my eyes.
I've lived for centuries and I've never even been closed to dying.
"I have a powerful gift as well and I still train." Alec tells me, trying to get me to understand.
"Yes, but that's because as powerful as your mist is, it's also slow so an enemy might get to you before you are able to numb him." I tell him, knowing of his ability fully well.
"On the other hand, my fire is instantaneous. I can throw fire, make fire appear wherever I want or even burn someone from the inside out." I retort.
Alec narrows his eyes at me, probably thinking of a words to fight back.
Jane intercepts, "You are improving Seraphina, all you need is to keep practicing and be patient." Ironically I've heard Jane doesn't fight at all and always relies on her power.
This of course irks me and I know they only insisted on this rule for me because I'm Alec's mate.
I've been holding my tongue as in to not offend her but I don't care anymore.
"It's unfair, Jane. I know that you only rely on your power and don't practice fighting." I tell her.
Jane stares at me, not knowing how to respond to that.
"You're not going on missions, Seraphina." Alec says, his voice turning cold. "And that's final."
I glare at him before walking off.
If he thinks he can order me around he's dead wrong.
Alec is too overprotective, I won't make him change his mind.
Though I know who could.
Aro.
As much as I disliked the joyful weirdo, he was the only one who could help me.
I soon reach the throne room and open it, not caring for knocking though I know who cares.
"Seraphina! Such insolence! You need to knock before entering our grand room." Caius shouts.
He's worst than an overbearing mother.
Why they keep him in the Volturi is beyond me.
"Now, now calm down, brother." Aro says. "Was there something you wished to tell us, young Seraphina?"
Thanks for shutting up your yapping dog.
"Yes, I want to be send to missions." I tell him, going straight to the point.
"Ah missions yes, with your…abilities that would be ideal." Are says with his usual creepy smile.
I smirk, take that Alec.
"Although we did agree you were going to train on your physical training." Are adds.
I scowl, "What's the point? Jane doesn't train and still goes on missions."
"Ah…Jane is a special matter, she has been with the Volturi for centuries and we trust her abilities enough that she doesn't need physical training." Aro responds.
My temper flares up at that.
"And what? You don't trust MY abilities? I can be just as powerful as her." I fumed.
She can bring someone unbelievable pain, I can burn them and do just the same.
Though with my fire I can actually kill someone unlike her ability where she brings them pain and someone else has to kill them.
We hear knocking and I can tell immediately who it is.
"Come on in." Aro lets them in.
Jane and Alec walk in and immediately stare at me.
I snap my head back at Aro.
I'm not gonna let them distract me.
"The only reason I joined this coven was to go to missions and you're forbidding me to do that."
Aro chuckles, "We both know that's not the only reason you joined this coven."
I narrow my eyes.
He's right, Alec is definitely the reason I stayed here but before meeting him, my reasons were different.
"From what I've heard from Felix you're improving, in no time you will be able to go to missions besides we have all the time in the world." Aro smiles.
He's denying my request!
I feel my eyes blazing in anger.
I feel a strong urge to just damn it all, and burn the entire castle down and dance around his ashes.
A single glance in Alec's direction is enough to stop me from burning the entire castle to ashes.
I tighten my lips and simply utter, "I'm going out."
"Wher-" Caius was saying but I ran out before he could finish.
If I hadn't agreed I was going to let them know when I leave I would have left without another word.
I can tell Aro's itching to send me on missions but he's kept quiet about it since he wants to respect Alec's wishes.
As I'm walking to the entrance (which is also the exit) I see the human secretary giving me a nervous smile.
Usually I toy with her whenever I'm bored which is more often than not.
But I'm obviously not in the mood right now.
I ignore her and exit the castle and start walking in the city.
I don't even know where to go, I just wanted to leave the castle in a place Alec wouldn't find me.
Alec can quickly find me in the castle as there's not many places I can go to.
I look at the passing humans and the bustling town.
I actually miss being outside, I had been allowed to leave but I always stayed in the castle whether it was to train, chat with Jane, read or spend time with Alec.
It's good to have a different scenery.
I walk around in a plaza where many vendors offer me their merchandise, I ignore them and continue walking.
"Hey Doll, want some food? I'll pay." A brunette man says and puts his arm around me.
I look up at him.
I am rather hungry, but not for the food you're imagining.
I give him a fake smile, "Okay though I know this great restaurant."
And it just so happened to be in a dark, secluded ally.
"Lead the way, *Hotsy-totsy gall." The dumb human grins. (Hotsy-totsy: attractive, pleasing to the eye)
I roll my eyes but before I can lead him to a secluded ally, a form appears in front of me.
"Alec." I mutter.
"Leave." Alec says coldly to the human.
"Hey buddy, I saw her first besides she agreed to-" the human isn't able to finish as Alec grabs him by the throat and begins choking him.
"I won't repeat myself again. Leave and don't look back." Alec threatened, his voice harsh.
The second Alec lets him go, he quickly scrambled off.
"Alec! You scared off my meal!" I huffed.
He glares at me, "If you need to eat, Heidi can always bring you a human."
I roll my eyes, "That's boring. I don't want my food getting handed to me."
"Besides you know it's against the rules to hunt humans who are from Volterra." He adds.
I chuckle darkly, "Oh please, I doubt anyone would have missed him."
"You told me you wouldn't flirt on anyone else." Alec hissed in jealousy.
"I didn't even touch him, you can barely call that flirting." I retorted.
I merely agreed with the dumb human so I could drink from him.
Alec narrowed his eyes, "We're going back to the castle."
"Forget it, I'm tired of that dumb castle. I want to walk around the city." I tell him.
"Fine, I'll walk with you then." Alec says.
When I left the castle I wanted to be away from all the inhabitants specially Alec.
"No thank you." I walked away.
He didn't deter and walked besides me.
I glare at him but he simply ignores my glare and looks ahead.
I roll my eyes.
Whatever, I'll just pretend he's not here.
Of course it was easier said than done.
His alluring presence was too hard to ignore and my eyes unconsciously drifted to him many times.
I decided to walk ahead so I wouldn't be tempted, and just looked at the sights the city had to offer.
When I turned back, Alec's gaze was completely fixed on me.
I felt warm at knowing he was always looking at me.
Feeling more calm, I decide to take advantage that we're both out of the castle.
"Since you're gonna follow me no matter what I say, why don't you give me a tour of the city instead?" I ask him.
He quirks his brow, "You want a tour?"
I nod, "Yeah, I only explored for a few hours when I came here and you've actually lived here for centuries."
"I mostly stay in the castle, but there are some spots that I sometimes visit." Alec says as he thinks of said places.
"Lead the way." I smile.
He smiles back and starts leading me to said place.
After a few minutes, we reach a mountain top.
"You wanted to bring me to a mountain?" I ask him as I look around disinterested.
"Not exactly the mountain." He says and takes my hand and walking a few steps I see the entire town of Volterra in all it's glory.
I had the top view of the entire town, all the ancient stone buildings in sight, people walking around, it was a surprisingly bustling town.
"Wow." I mutter.
"Yes, It's a beautiful sight." Alec agrees.
"I sometimes come here to think or to have some peace and quiet." Alec explains.
"And you can't do that in the castle?" I ask.
"Many times I'm needed by the Masters or Jane wants to rant to me about her day, so I come here for some true peace and quiet." Alec answers.
"So does that mean that not even Jane knows about this place?" I ask, curious.
"That's right." Alec nods.
I smile.
That makes me feel special.
"I guess that makes it our secret place." I smile as I take his hands and look deep in his ruby eyes.
"Yes, our special secret place." Alec smiles back, and puts one of his hands under my chin making me shiver before leaning in.
I flutter my eyes close and also lean in, eager to kiss him.
Our lips soon touch, which makes my usually cold body feel warm.
Feelings akin to happiness, trust and… love, start to bubble inside of me.
Before I can mull over my thoughts his hand caresses my cheek making me feel tingles from his gentle touch.
I kiss him back, finally being able to kiss him after this month.
No… After centuries of looking for him, I finally get to feel his lips against mine.
He keeps the kiss sweet, not deepening it or losing himself to lust.
He's surprisingly gentle with me.
Jane's word's come to my mind.
"My brother truly treasures you and wants to go slow and be gentle with you."
And I can feel it.
How he touches me and treats me like a precious treasure.
I don't mind it, but with time he'll learn that I'm not made of glass.
After a few more moments our sweet, gentle kiss ends but his hand doesn't retract still caressing my cheek.
He sighs happily and smiles, "I've been waiting centuries to finally kiss you."
I grin, "I can say the same for me, thankfully it was worth the wait."
He bashfully smiles, "I'm glad to hear that, I don't exactly have much practice."
My heart feels joy at his words. I never took Alec for a player, but it makes me happy he waited as well.
After the first few decades of becoming a vampire, I got lonely and thought having a romantic partner might ease the loneliness but after a simple peck I didn't feel anything. Just skin against skin, so I gave up on the idea specially after learning we all had soul mates I just waited to find him so I could actually feel something.
I put my arms around his neck and smile, "You were amazing. And I can say the same for me, I might seem like a flirt but I'm mostly all bark and no bite."
Alec smirks and teases, "Really? I always took you for a biter."
I grin, "Don't tempt me."
Alec smiles, and he pulls me close, I relish being in his arms and lean my head in his chest.
Together we watch the sun start hiding and dusk begins giving the town an even more spectacular view.
