Eternal Love ~Alec Volturi Love Story~ Compromise (Ch 7)

Aurora Lilac

"You're not ready." Alec tells me again for the thousand time.

I narrow my eyes, "You're only saying that because you're worried but I am more than ready." I counter.

We had been walking around Volterra for the past hour arguing about me going on missions.

"Please understand me, Seraphina." Alec says staring at me with his alluring crimson eyes. "If something were to happen to you, I could no longer continue living, I would be in agony. I'd ask to be killed after that."

I feel my chest ache in pain just at the thought of Alec dying.

Not only that, It brought back memories of someone close to me, kill herself because of love.

"If I can't have your love, I don't want to remain 'living'."

I put my arms around him, surprising him and stopping in the middle of the street.

I feel a knot in my throat, but still say, "That's never gonna happen."

This is why I didn't want to have a mate.

Love makes us vulnerable.

I saw it happen in front of me, when a disgusting human rejected one of the kindest and sweetest vampire to ever exist.

I was in battle with myself after that, yearning for a mate but not wanting the vulnerability that comes with it.

Fate seems to have chosen for me though.

I stare at Alec's handsome angelic face, he's looking at me curiously, knowing there's something in my mind.

I clear my mind and say, "It's the same for me."

I caress his porcelain face, "You go on missions all the time, don't you think I get worried as well?"

Alec's gaze clouds, taking in the information.

"But I still don't hold you back. I trust in your abilities and hope for the best." I tell him.

He grabs my hand that's on his face and puts his other hand on my waist, pulling me closer.

"I do trust you." He says, sincerity in his voice. "You're one of the most powerful vampire I've ever met."

I smile, feeling happy from his words.

I've been called powerful before but when my Mate says it, it gives me another type of happiness.

"Then let me go on missions." I told him.

A part of me feels angry, before I met him I did what I wanted, when I wanted as I wanted.

But now I have to ask my Mate to go to a mission.

Going to Aro directly didn't work so this is the only other way.

"Perhaps it might be best for you to be guarded." Alec suggested, making me widen my eyes and separate myself from him.

"What?!" I exclaimed.

"The Masters keep their mates on a guarded tower where no harm has ever come to them." Alec explains, while frowning not liking I separated from him.

"Forget it!" I yelled. "That's never going to happen!"

Alec looks at me tiredly, "It's for your security, I'm sure the Masters would have no problem letting you stay there."

I scoff at that.

Alec can be so naive sometimes.

Aro might appease Alec sometimes but he's not going to let me be in the tower. That will be a waste of my gift.

Aro's power hungriness is good for something at least.

I'm still standing my ground though.

"You'd be stripping me of my freedom!" I argue. "That's not what we agreed!"

"I just don't want anything to happen to you." Alec counters, growing agitated.

"Has anything happen to me?" I ask him.

Alec sighs, "No, but it could-"

"Nuh uh!" I say and press my finger to his smooth lips.

"Nothing has happened to me in centuries and nothing will happen to me in the upcoming centuries." I persuade him.

He remains quiet after that.

I lean up to him and breathe out, "Trust me Alec."

We're now staring at each other, crimson eyes fixed on each other.

I can see the gears inside himself turning as he decides on what to say.

"Okay."

I squeal and jump to hug him.

"I promise you won't regret it!" I say happily.

I feel Alec's arms tighten around my petite frame.

"Though not real missions yet." He adds.

I feel a nerve explode when he says that.

I apply fire on my skin and he flinches away from my form.

"You're unbelievable, Alec." I glare at him and stalk off.

He quickly recovers, and pulls me to him.

"Let me go, or I'll give you a real burn." I threatened.

Of course the tingles I felt from his touch, contradicted my words.

"I said yet, I will work alongside Felix on training you to make you ready for missions." He says, and tightens his hold on me, not caring about the burn I could give him.

I mused on his words.

I do believe he is being truthful about training me until I'm ready.

Ready for his standards anyway, since I know I'm ready to anyone else's standards.

I look at him, poker faced, "I want a job."

Alec looks at me dumbfounded, "What? Why a job?"

I roll my eyes, "Because I'm bored, why else."

Not to mention I feel like a free loader, I get a room, get fed and do nothing in return besides training but that's not a job.

Of course I don't tell Alec this, he'll probably go on and on that as his Mate I shouldn't feel like that, that he works for the both of us blah blah blah.

I've always been independent and having a mate doesn't mean that I'll depend on him for everything.

I can pull my own weight.

Alec frowns, "I suppose I can talk to Master Aro if there's a safe position you can take in the guard."

I hold back on rolling my eyes when he says "safe position" and instead smile, "Thank you, love"

I kiss his cheek, "And I believe you meant we will talk to Aro."

Alec doesn't reply and I link my arm to his and we go back to the castle.

"Hello, Marissa." I greet the human secretary.

"It's Martina." she corrects me with a nervous smile.

Alec looks at our exchange with a blank face.

He never says anything to the secretary, always ignoring her.

Which is good but I on the other hand like playing with her.

"Potato, potatoe." I jest, and she chuckles nervously.

I could hear her heartbeat quicken as she worries for her safety.

Whether it's because she knows I'm a powerful vampire or just a vampire I didn't know but I didn't care.

"Anyone interesting come visit the castle?" I ask, my smirk ever present on my angelic face.

"N-no, no one." She stutters.

"Hm, shame…" I say and get closer to her.

"I was hoping for our meals to have arrived by now." I say staring at her hazel eyes.

"I-I'm afraid no tourists are scheduled to come by today." She manages to say with a worried smile.

"No? How unfortunate," I grab one of her brown locks. "I was looking forward to a meal today."

I say, slyly, "Maybe for a brunette who could quench my thirst."

She gulps back, her face filled with fear, making me chuckle.

Alec touches my shoulder, "The Masters are waiting for us, let's go, love."

I nod to him but not before bidding goodbye to the human secretary, "I'll be sure to see you later, Martina." I said, with a sly smile.

The human trembles as she grabs the locks I had touched only a few seconds before.

"If you scare her too much, we might lose our secretary." Alec tells me, though there's no hint of care in his voice, as we walk towards the Throne room.

"Oh please, she signed up for this. Wanting to be the secretary in hopes of becoming a vampire? She has another thing coming if she actually thinks she will become one of us." I say, darkly.

She doesn't have what it takes to be a vampire, all she will be is our snack in a couple of months.

Or weeks, depending on Aro's mood.

Alec shrugs, obviously not caring about the secretary.

Besides there's always others to replace her when she's served her purpose.

And I do enjoy a new toy.

We soon arrive to the throne room, before I can open the door Alec knocks, making me roll my eyes.

Ever so obedient.

"Come in!" Aro's voice echoes and we enter the room where Are is waiting, he soon smiles as he sees us.

"Ah~! Good to have you back, dearest Seraphina." Aro says, happily.

I notice Caius's scowl and can see he's about to yell at me so instead I talk before him, "I want a job."

"Oh? A job?" Aro says puzzled and looks at Alec who's at my side.

"A safe job, something to keep her occupied." Alec adds.

"Ahh I understand." Aro says and muses over what job to give me. "Hmm a job…well guarding the castle might not be the safest."

I roll my eyes, yes because standing like a statue outside of the castle is oh so dangerous.

I won't say it out loud though, It will be a dreadfully boring job.

"How about taking Martina's job as a secretary?" Aro suggests.

No thanks, talk about tedious and boring.

"Doing paperwork would be a waste of my time and talents." I tell him, with a smug smile.

Alec looks at me and mumbles, "Tch, so picky."

I narrow my eyes at him, well excuse me for wanting something better suited for me.

"Very true, you need a job that takes advantage of your talents." Aro agrees with me.

Ha, take that Alec.

Aro's eye's sparkle as an idea come to his mind.

"How about being our fisher?"

A smile formed in my angelic face.

Now that seems like a way to use my talents though before I could agree Alec interrupts.

"No! We do not need another fisher, Heidi brings in more than enough humans." Alec interjects.

I narrowed my eyes at him.

I know the real reason he doesn't want me to be a fisher.

He's jealous of me luring human men.

As if I care of those pests.

"I understand your point, young Alec but Heidi has told me she would appreciate some help, as you know we are a big guard so finding enough humans to feed all of us requires a lot of her time." Aro explains to Alec.

True, there's only so many people Heidi can attract, not to mention that they have to be outside of Volterra.

"Yes, Alec. With my help the guard will be able to have more constant meals and be even more productive." I say, matter of factly.

Alec purses his lips, still not being keen of the idea.

Now who's being picky.

Whatever, I'm okay with it and that's what matters.

"I'd like that job, Aro." I tell the leader.

"Splendid! Heidi will go over the rules and specifications tomorrow with you." Aro concludes.

Heidi walks over to me, "We'll talk tomorrow, I'm sure you'll enjoy the job."

She notices Alec's scowl and smiles, "You have nothing to worry, Alec. The humans won't get to even touch your mate, they're like dogs who just follow us where we go."

Alec's scowl doesn't disappear, still not believing Heidi's words.

I shrug, "He'll get over it. I'll talk to you tomorrow." I smile at Heidi.

Heidi nods and leaves the room.

One look at Alec and I know this won't be the last we talk about this.

"If we're gonna argue about this, at least let us go to the garden." I tell him, not wanting the leaders and some of the guard to listen to our arguments.

Alec nods and we head to the garden.

It's only been a month and we're already fighting like a married couple.

"How is that job a good use of your talents?" Alec quickly says when we reach the garden.

Thankfully there was no one around to listen to our couple squabbles.

"Well I'm incredibly beautiful for one, and could easily help Heidi lure more humans." I say, simply.

And no, I'm not bragging about my beauty, it's a fact.

Alec narrows his eyes, knowing he can't argue my point and instead says, "You hate humans, why would you want to lure them?"

True, I hate them, I don't see myself kissing up to them the way Heidi does.

I don't kiss up to anyone.

Well except Alec but it's another type of kissing up that we do.

But that's another story.

"So that I can toy with them." I tell Alec. "At the moment, I can't toy with them when they bring them to us because while I try to play with them another vampire will come and take the kill." I say remembering that happening a few weeks ago.

Of course that vampire didn't go unpunished.

I made sure of that.

"What exactly do you mean by 'toying'?" Alec asks.

I've shown my sadistic tendencies plenty of times but Alec seems to be worried just how far I'll play.

"Oh you know." I say while putting my hands on his shoulders. "Just tease them like the way I toy with Marissa."

"Martina." He corrects me and puts his hands on my waist.

"Yes, her." I say, nonchalantly, not caring much about the secretary and instead focus on my handsome mate.

"I assure you." I say inching in. "You have nothing to worry."

"I only have eyes for you." I say before closing my eyes and kissing my mate.

He kisses me back and puts one of his hands on my hair.

The kiss grows passionate as the seconds go by and I feel thankful that I don't need air.

I loved our first kiss but this was different.

It was more passionate, more eager, and I could feel his possessiveness on the kiss.

And did I love every second of it.

It was just our second kiss and I was already addicted to him.

Much too soon for my liking, he ended our kiss but still kept his arms around me in a protective embrace.

"I'll allow it." He whispered, huskily.

If it wasn't because he gave me a breathtaking kiss, I'd tell him I was going to do it whether he liked it or not.

"Why thank you so much." I said sarcastically.

Alec lifts an eyebrow before smirking and diving in to another delightful kiss.

Well Alec and Seraphina have a bit more complex relationship than Seth and Stella but it's still very fun to write it. Their personalities sometimes clash but they make it work.

Or do they?

Stay tuned to find out!
