Let's Find My Parents!
Chapter 10
Holy. Cow. I have not updated this story for ONE. YEAR. That's just...unacceptable. Unprofessional-I am SO SORRY I have left this one alone for so long. I was so disappointed with the way it ended, you know? I wanted MORE. And I imagine a lot of other people did, too. I've just been so busy with my job and other stories, I guess I just sort of...forgot about this for a while. But no more! I plan to finish this one within the next few months. I am still not entirely sure how it will end/how many more chapters there are, but for now, the wait is over. Enjoy the next chapter.
Spyder and Harris slowly walked down the dark hallway, each taking one side and searching for anyone inside each of the conference rooms they passed, but they found nothing. As they continued their search, neither one of them noticed Ryan peering at them from the corner. He focused his powers on the lights, and his two friends cried out as sparks flew down on them. They turned to see Ryan's head disappear.
"Get him!" Spyder cried, and he and Harris gave chase.
Ryan looked over his shoulder to make sure they were following, smiling to himself. The plan was working perfectly. Harris growled, speeding up his pace, as Spyder pounded the wall in frustration. Suddenly Ryan tripped in front of them, falling to the ground. Harris and Spyder chuckled as he tried to crawl away.
"Just give up, dude", said Spyder.
"You've already lost your friends, your family-what more do you need to see that you're on the wrong side?" said Harris.
Ryan knew it was the monsters talking and not his friends, but it still hurt.
"Come on, guys", he said, continuing to back away on the ground. "Can't we talk about this?"
Spyder and Harris looked at each other and grabbed Ryan's arms.
"No? Okay, then."
Ryan slammed them both together, causing them to fall, as he called the electronic pulse disruptor to his grasp.
"Yeah, I kind of figured the time for talking was done, anyway."
Before Spyder and Harris could say anything, Ryan pulled the trigger and a wave of energy sapped into his friends' brains. Spyder and Harris cried out and held their heads as two creatures fell out of their ears, shrieking.
"Lights out", Ryan said, and focused his powers on the lights again, causing bulbs to burst and sparks to fly down, setting them ablaze. Within a matter of minutes, the parasites had been destroyed.
"Ryan?" Harris groaned, rubbing his head.
"Harris!"
Ryan dropped the weapon and knelt down beside his friends.
"What's goin' on?" Spyder said. "Ugh, why does my head hurt so much?"
"It's a long story-"
"We got possessed, didn't we?"
Ryan nodded, impressed by Harris's quick realization.
"Yeah, I seem to recall Megan and your parents looking at us funny before everything went dark", said Spyder.
"It's so good to have you guys back", said Ryan, slapping his arms over his friends' shoulders. "Come on! We still have to stop Harper."
"Harper?!" they said simultaneously, and Ryan shushed them.
"Yes!" he whispered. "Now, come on!"
"Can we not ever get a break from this guy?" Spyder groaned as he and Harris followed Ryan down the hall.
…
"Oh, Ryan?"
Lucy peeked around the corner, looking for her son, closely followed by Robert.
"Come on out, son", he said. "We just wanna be one, big happy family again."
"You want that too, don't you dear?" said Lucy.
Megan suppressed a shudder as she watched Ryan's parents continue to search for them.
"I can't believe I didn't notice the creepy vibes they were giving off when we first arrived in Egypt", she said. "Though to be fair, I didn't have much time to since they-"
"Okay, focus!" Leo said. "That was then, this is now. We need to free them from Harper's control."
"Ryan, don't make me count to three!" Lucy said forcefully.
"Come on out, sport!" Robert said.
Megan and Leo jumped as they started kicking doors open with brute force.
"Soon!" they said simultaneously.
"I've got an idea", said Megan, "but you're not gonna like it."
Leo looked at her curiously, and then rolled his eyes.
"You're not thinking what I think you are?"
Megan shrugged as if to say sorry, and then used her powers to hurl him across the room and right in front of the two. Leo landed with a groan at their feet, and Megan emerged from behind the wall.
"Look who I found hanging around", she said in the most menacing voice she could muster. "Those kids can't be far behind."
"And now that we've got him, they'll come to us", Lucy said.
She and Robert grabbed Leo's arms and hoisted him to his feet. Megan gave him a subtle wink as she passed by them.
"Let's get him back to Harper", she said. "He should be able to keep him contained until we find Mark and Ryan."
Robert and Lucy nodded and started to walk off with Leo in tow.
"Now!"
Megan lifted them off their feet and slammed them into each other, causing them to crash in a heap on the ground.
"She's awake!" Lucy said, struggling to get to her feet.
"Yup", said Megan. "And soon, you will be, too."
Leo struck them with lightning, not enough to seriously injure them but just knock them out.
"Ryan, meet us in the hall, and bring the pulse disruptor", Megan said into her wrist communicator. "Operation: Parent Trap was a complete success."
…
Harris, Spyder, Mark and Megan watched as Leo used the device to get the monsters out of Ryan's parents' ears.
"That thing was inside of me?" said Spyder. "Ew!"
"Dang, son", Harris said breathlessly.
"I think I'm gonna be sick", Megan said, holding her stomach.
Once they had been extracted, Ryan helped destroy the parasitic beasts with his powers. Robert and Lucy held their heads and groaned.
"Where are we?" said Lucy.
"I'm not sure", said Robert. "We were at the town meeting when-"
He froze as he looked up and saw Ryan. When Lucy turned to see what he was looking at, she gasped.
"Honey", she said. "Is that-"
"I think it is", said Robert, not able to take his eyes off of him. "Ryan?"
Ryan chuckled a bit and wiped a single tear from his eyes.
"Yeah, Mom. Dad. It's me."
Immediately, the two rushed to hug him, surrounding him in a warm embrace.
"Ryan!" Lucy cried. "Oh, my Ryan!"
"Son!" said Robert, gripping his shoulder. "It's really you! You're here!"
"Oh, Seth is so going to pay for tampering with such a heart-warming moment!" Megan said, clenching her fists at her sides.
"Seth?"
Lucy let go of her son and looked past him to Megan.
"Seth Harper is here?"
"Yeah, uh...long story, that", said Leo. "What do you say we walk and talk?"
Kind of a short chapter and I do apologize for that, but this was just to remind everyone that I have NOT forgotten about this story...even if the series ended on a bad note, in my opinion. Anyway, see you next time!
