Ten Months Later...

A woman with her male companion stood on the front steps of an orphanage with an all brick exterior. It was a converted fashion studio for a once famous design brand that sold the building because they needed more space, according to information gathered. But inside this building now resided children with special acumen and gifts.

She hugged her three week old baby boy. It was raining and she had brought a weather-resistant basket that would protect her son for a small while until he could be collected. The cliche of abandoning her baby in the middle of the night to an orphanage was heartbreaking, but necessary.

It was the previous century when such a thing was commonplace. Mothers would often give up their babies because they couldn't afford them. She was doing this to protect him.

She was being hunted down by others known as "Hunters" or "Wraiths", ghostly creatures of an unknown origin. Anyone who possessed Death Notes were targets. She had been told that they were once controlled by a cult called the League of Darkness, but were now controled by government bodies.

Her husband was locked up in a place unreachable, on an island with other prisoners who had all at one time used Death Notes; the island couldn't be found on any map and was protected from sight by some mysterious magnetic field generated by the earth itself, but it was somewhere in the Pacific Ocean, operated by a clandestine police agency, she was told. Her companion suspected these "Wraiths" were being controlled by whomever controlled the island. The Warden, instructed all Death Note users be captured and imprisoned, so the "Kira Incident" would never be repeated.

"My lady, please," her companion urged hurriedly. He was dressed all in black and wore a trench coat. He was once her butler in a large chalet her husband purchased to hide her from Near and the rest of the Kira Task Force, but now, instead, they had left all that behind. He was her most trusted confidant and protector and he had been entrusted with her safety by her husband.

"I can't! I can't do it, PreVost!" she said, hugging her son again, taking him out of the basket. "I thought we were safe? You said we were safe!"

"My Lady Takada, this is why I'm here now," PreVost said . "I'm fulfilling the job your husband, Master Kira, asked of me, and as your Shinigami. I'm also protecting you without killing for you. Kira's legacy must be maintained even with the Master locked up. This is the only way to secure Young Master Minoru from the Death Note Hunters. If they capture you or him, then neither one of you will ever be seen again! And a prison is no place for a child."

She nodded understanding by was unwilling to fully accept the situation. She loved her son Minoru, named after her grandfather, and didn't want to give him up to strangers. "Light doesn't even know he has a son," she said.

"Perhaps one day, he will," PreVost voiced assuredly. "Death Note Island is impregnable. However, there must be ways for Shinigami on the island to open up spacial gateways..."

"Why does the Shinigami King allow Death Note Island to exist in the Human World?"

"So he doesn't have to deal with any bad apples, so to speak. Any Shinigami that defies him have now become the Human World's problem, he doesn't want anything more to do with them. The Shinigami King is wise in his ways, but he can also be ruthless and cunning bastard! He controls the Shinigami Realm and he controls the Death Note's. All Shinigami must adhere to his law or they will be subjected to his divine punishment. I'm a half-breed, a child of a Shinigami, I'm also half human, but I'm still at the King's beckon call. And I must attend him if summoned. I'm compelled to do so."

"Don't leave me, PreVost. I need you!"

PreVost bowed respectfully. "Trust me when I say, my Lady Takada, that I am yours and no one elses; you will always come first. The Shinigami King knows the rules of the Death Note. I'm here with you until either you die or the Death Note ends. The rules state it will fall on me to end your life and add the rest of your lifespan to my own. However, I have no intention of doing so. I'm a different breed of Shinigami and I was entrusted to watch over you by your husband."

Kiyomi nodded. "Fine," she said. "As for right now, Minoru is top priority."

"Of course, Lady Takada."

Kiyomi placed Minoru back in his special basket. She was shocked when PreVost first suggested Minoru be brought to one of the orphanages run and operated by L's former confidant Watari, Qullish Wammy. He held multiple product patents and had built many child services homes throughout the world, one of which was in Japan. Prevost said Minoru would be safe here. It was a place for gifted children and he was an exceptional boy. He was Light Yagami's son.

PreVost brought her here through a spacial gateway portal he showed her that all Shinigami could summon to travel from place to place through time and space.

Some Shinigami, like PreVost, even had the ability to travel through time, like they had now. She asked PreVost to travel back into the past and to give Light valuable financial information from the future to help him in his plight as Kira. Information she had collected with the help of others. It would be placed in a safety deposit box in Geneva, Switzerland, inside a computer harddrive for Light to download on a provided flash drive; PreVost delivering the passcodes to Light for him to access it. She knew Light would be able to remember them, even if he had his memories erased of the Death Note at some point. Light had an picturesque memory.

Kiyomi suddenly became angry. "One day, I'll get my revenge on Near. Light died because Near discovered his secret, but thanks to Morph Light was reborn. But now he's imprisoned. The world needs Kira again! Perhaps, just maybe, Minoru will become the saviour of Light's legacy?"

"Hope springs eternal, my Lady," PreVost said. "I can imagine Young Master Minoru will do great things like his father. Please, we must go, or the Wraiths will find you both. I have the phone number to the orphanage and I will let them know Master Minoru is here. There is a card in the basket explaining why he was left, as well; a lie of course. But it says you were unable to afford his care."

Kiyomi nodded. She then leaned over and kissed Minoru one last night. "Goodbye, sweet prince," he said. "Rise up, and become a king like your father. We will meet again."

PreVost made the phone call, received a live person on the other end, and told them about the 'package'. He then summoned a spacial gateway—an oval crackling vortex of energy. It opened up in front of them, secluded within the dark alleyway next to the building.

Kiyomi Takada didn't want to go, but PreVost urged her.

He gently walked Kiyomi Takada forward into the vortices dimensional embrace, her eyes casting one last time upon her son, and then they were gone—back into the future, leaving Minoru's life to chance.
