{Genital WarThunder: Will Xarn, Goris, and Gruthar come into the story?}
[As of right now, no. Though I hope to bring them in at the later chapters, but I cannot guarantee]
"Not exactly. You see, when a Maiden dies, their power is transferred to the last person they thought about, given if the person is female," Ozpin stated, looking to the pod.
"And sometimes, the last person we think about. Is the one who killed us," Ozpin continued.
"So you want us to make sure she's safe and doesn't die?" Jenkins asked.
"Not exactly... Jenkins brung up a while ago that a deathclaw is almost impossible to find out its gender. So may I ask you what you are?" Ozpin asked. Onyx seemed to wince at the question.
"I was born female. But the institute changed that. As of now, I don't have any gender," Onyx sighed.
"You respond to male pronouns. Do you feel think of yourself as a male?" Ozpin asked.
"I think of myself as a deathclaw. If you speak to me, I awnser," Onyx replied.
Ozpin begins to explain that Onyx and Jenkins are being let in on this ancient knowledge now because there is great urgency to selecting the next maiden. The previous Fall Maiden, Amber, was attacked, and for the first time in history, a part of her powers were stolen. There is a fear that the peace that pervades in the world will soon come to an end.
Currently, Amber is in a comatose state on life support, held in the vault. The teachers are seriously concerned about the consequences of Amber's impending death. Amber's power could be transferred to her assailant as they might be in her final thoughts, or the sundered power might seek to reunite with its other half. The exact consequences are unknown, as the Maiden's power has never been split in such a way before.
They could transfer the power, but there are yet more complications. Due to Amber's condition, the inheritance of her powers cannot occur by natural means. Atlas has been researching the nature of Aura and has developed the ability to "capture" and artificially transfer it to a different recipient. The group plans to use this technology to transfer Amber's Aura, and the powers that are bound to it, to Onyx; however, this transference would have unknown effects on Onyx, especially since he wasn't human. Ozpin also spoke that he had originally wanted a grirl named Pyrrha to get the power, but now that the option of Onyx had been revealed to be an option, a creature with more experience and natural instincts than Phyrra. They thought they could have a better option.
"That is why I wanted you here until at least the Vytal festival is over. I want you to make the decision whether you want to go with it, or not," Ozpin stated, his tone was nice, but serious, Onyx couldn't quite define it.
"I'll let you go and make your decision," Ozpin stated, smiling as they walked back to the Elevator, leaving Qrow alone with him.
"Oz. I know that he's all big, strong and talented at fighting, but, if you haven't noticed, he isn't very fond of humans. What if he decides to turn on us?" Qrow asked, looking to Amber laying in the pod.
"Hmmm. What I do know is that it will leave. Probably try and go to his homeworld. He says he doesn't like humans. Like that Fay girl, he acts like he doesn't care about her. But his soul says otherwise. He might act indifferent, but if something happens, I believe he will come to assist," Ozpin answered.
"Oz, I get it. You trust it. But... It isn't even a human, or Faunus. Don't you think it would be better to choose Phyrra?" Qrow questioned.
"I still choose Phyrra. If Onyx denies the burden, than we will fall back to her,"
"That doesn't answer my question Oz,"
"Onyx is not a normal Creature. He was designed to fight. From what I've gathered from our resident Paladin, His species was altered and configured to be killing machines. Genetically engineered to be a perfect vessel of war. Now, from what Jenkins has told me, a group called 'The enclave' modified his species and made them more intelligent. Then he found Onyx at a place called 'The Institute'. A place where I'm guessing experimented on him more, making him stronger than before,"
"Just because he is strong, doesn't mean he's a good choice, Oz,"
"No. No it doesn't. But right now, strength is what we need," Ozpin stated, taking a sip of his drink before stepping into the elevator.
Jenkins and Onyx followed Glynda, who was stood outside the elevator, awaiting their exit. She explained that Jenkins, Onyx, and Fay would be put in the same place while the Festival was going on. She led them to what she said was a house of an teacher that used to work there. It was one of the only houses on campus, and needed a little cleaning. Onyx sighed as he entered a rather large room, He could already smell somthing burning. Glynda seemed suprised at the smell, while Jenkins couldn't smell through the Power armor.
"Fay!" Onyx shouted, looking around. He could hear a sudden clattering and glass shattering from a kitchen that laid to their right. After a few moments of silence, Glynda stormed forward, seeming angry.
"By the gods, what have you been doing? It's only been five minutes!" Glynda shouted, walking forward and into the kitchen, Onyx followed closely. Glynda was frozen in shock as she saw Fay sitting on the floor crying, broken glass everywhere, and a somthing in a bowl on fire and what looked to be a box of cereal literally hanging from the blade of a ceiling fan.
"I was hungry..." Fay whined as Glynda put out the fire in the bowl. Jenkins stood silent next to Onyx, seemingly in shock.
"How do you set fire to a bowl of cereal?!" Glynda screamed, stomping up to the girl.
"I don't know..." Fay spoke weakly, still crying softly.
Glynda pulled out her riding crop and waved it at the shattered glass across the floor, the glass seemed to pick itself up and float to the trash.
"She does this daily. I cant tell if she's a pyromaniac, or an Idiot," Onyx sighed, walking away from the mess of the kitchen that was now being cleaned by Glynda and Fay.
"I guess I'll be cooking for the three of us," Jenkins spoke, walking to the fridge to find it stocked to the brim with food.
"How bad is Onyx at cooking?" Glynda asked, finishing throwing the cereal away.
"He dosen't cook. He'll eat things raw if someone doesn't cook it beforehand, " Jenkins stated, shrugging.
"Okay... Now that it's all clean, I'm going to ask you," Glynda stated, turning to Fay, who shrunk back, "How do you set fire to a bowl of cereal?"
"I'm not good at controlling my semblance..." Fay spoke softly.
"And what is your semblance?"
Fay lifted up her hand, and small bolts of electricity snapped across her skin, which quickly became volatile, starting to arc to other materials. Fay quickly yanked back her hand, stopping it.
"That is an interesting semblance... Talking about semblance, What is Onyx's Semblance? Do either of you know?" Glynda asked, looking between the Faunus and Paladin. Jenkins and Fay shrugged.
"Okay. Back to the matter at hand. Why were you using your semblance while trying to make cereal?" Glynda asked, looking at Fay with disappointment.
"I don't know," Fay replied, Glynda wasn't even angry at this point. She just sighed and walked away, out of the small house.
"So, you're a sentinel?" Jenkins asked, looking back at Fay.
"Yes..." The Faunus said weakly, Jenkins grabbed his helmet and pulled it off, smiling as he looked at Fay.
"Last Sentinel I knew was the best of the best. Though, she only used a Fat Man. Christ she was terrifying. She nuked everything, didn't matter if it was a deathclaw or a radroach," Jenkins laughed.
"I think we have two different views of what a Sentinel is," Fay spoke, looking around at the now clean kitchen. Jenkins shrugged and placed his helmet on a counter, holding out a hand.
"My names Paladin Jenkins. You can call me... Well... My students call me Professor Paladin, so you can call me that if you would like," Jenkins stated, smiling.
"You're a Professor? Well, I guess they can't just trust me and Onyx to stay put by ourselves without a babysitter, can they?" Fay spoke, sighing.
"You lit the kitchen on fire," Jenkins said, raising an eyebrow.
"On accedent," Fay replied softly.
"Well, try not to make any more accidents becau..." Jenkins looked over to a clock, his eyes going wide, "shit, I gotta go!"
The thundering footsteps of the power armor sprinting rang out through the small house. Fay exited the kitchen to find Onyx looking out the front door, seemingly annoyed.
"Why was he in a hurry?" Fay asked, getting a shrug from Onyx. It was around midnight, and judging from how dark it was, the moon was on its shattered side. Onyx sighed and closed the door, and walked to the center of the room, curling up in a circle on the floor. Onyx gave a low growl as Fay approached him.
"We do this song and dance every day. Wouldn't be annoying if you just went with it," Fay spoke, smiling brightly and crossing her arms.
"I am not huddling with a human," Onyx growled.
"I'm a Faunus. And a Lizard Faunus at that. I technically am both Warm and Cold-blooded. Easier to sleep when huddled, for both of us..." Fya spoke, leaning towards Onyx, who glared at her.
"Come on, just once. Won't ask you again," Fay said, hopefully. Onyx huffed and turned his head away, drawing a exightid giggle from Fay, who happily walked up to Onyx.
Paladin Jenkins sighed, he had left his experimental fusion core on his desk for half a day to see how it would keep its energy. And Thankfully, it still held more than 80% of its Charge. It had nowhere near the power output and strength of an traditional Fusion core, but it worked. Paladin Jenkins reached for his helmet, only to find out it wasn't there. He panicked for a second before remembering he left it on the counter back at the house. Jenkins sighed, pulling out a square bottle filled with amber liquid. He didn't usually drink, but a bit of a celebratory drink couldn't hurt.
The Paladin heard the door to his room open, and quickly stashed the bottle under his desk as the person entered. They stepped carefully and almost silently, and from the look of it, were up to no good. The Paladin pressed a few buttons on his power armor, and activated an integrated stealth boy. The invisibility was weak and noticeable in daylight, but could usually conceal your presence in a darkened room. Two more people entered after the first, seeming much less worried about stealth.
"Hey, I thought we were going to do this quietly," The sneaking one whispered.
"And get caught by nothing? He isn't here," One of them asked, getting a sigh in return.
The three had flashlights, and seemed to search everywhere. The Paladin didn't know what they were looking for, but he watched closely. One of them had silver hair and dark clothes, another, had green hair. And the last was wearing Bright red.
"Oh, score," The Silver haired one spoke, grabbing something from under his desk.
"Whatd you find?" The Red once asked urgently.
"Some rum. Looks like the Professor is a drinker," He spoke, getting a sigh from the red girl.
"How about finding somthing useful?" The Red girl asked angrily.
"It is, how bout we spice up his drink? We want to take him out, right? Professor getting sick from alcohol is a good cover," The Silver haired one spoke.
Jenkins was suprised at this. They wanted to kill him? Well, he wasn't going to let that happen. The Silver haired one was about to put somthing in his drink when the lights suddenly snapped on. The three looked around in confusion before the Silver one pointed behind the green one.
"Behind you!" The Silver haired boy yelled. The green girl had no time to react as Jenkins brung his fists down on the top of her head. A wave of energy seemed to wash over her as she crumpled to the floor, unconscious.
The Silver boy jumped up to Jenkins and placed a foot on his Chestplate, the force of a shotgun round discarging making Jenkins stumble back slightly. The Silver hired boy once again moved to attack, but was stopped as Jenkins charged, holding out an arm infront of him. The boy was caught and dragged along as Jenkins ran, slamming him into the wall before picking him up and dropping him into the hardened steel knee of the power armor. A wave of energy seemed to flow through him, just like the other girl, as he dropped to the floor. Jenkins turned to the red girl, only to be met with a torrent of fire. Jenkins moved his arms to cover his face. Without his helmet, he could feel the flames licking at his face, until his armors fusion core finnaly ran out of energy, his legs failing and dropping him to the floor, exposing his face to the flames, and sending him into unconsciousness.
