Jaden was smirking as he stared down Bastion. They had to duel each other to see who would represent Duel Academy in the School Duel against North Academy. Honestly this probably wouldn't even be happening if Bonaparte and a few other teachers who had grudges against those in Red, and her Uncle Satyr who merely wanted his Ra's given some representation, insisting on their being a duel between two leading students. Her and Bastion. Something that had her father grumbling under his breath with a dark miasma of rage around him when he had taken her aside and told her in private a week before the duel was announced.
"Are you ready to Duel Bastion?" Jaden called to her opponent who tugged his collar a little bit at the smirk from the hidden girl.
"Ready to break your winning streak." Bastion said smirking back at her and knowing that he had a hidden ace up his sleeves if she tried her Dark World or her Fusion decks.
"Ohhh bold words from the Brit. Let's see if you can back them up Bass." Jaden said looking amused and pleased at his tough talk.
"I believe you'll be pleasantly surprised. I've cracked the formula for your fusion monsters…However I'll be nice and let you pick which deck I use." Bastion said holding open his blazer to show four different decks, none of them labeled, on inside pockets of his jacket.
"Well aren't you sweet? The one on the far left." Jaden said making Bastion blush a bit but take out the chosen deck.
"Bad choice for you my friend." Bastion said smirking slightly, Jaden had chosen the deck that had the Non-Fusion Area in it.
"Now how about I return the curtesy? Which deck would you like to face?" Jaden asked opening her own blazer, earning a muffled squack from her father and an immediate bright red blush from Bastion. On the inside pockets of her blazer were no less than ten different decks, making everyone's eyes widen at the decks which were labeled with numbers 0 through 10.
"I wasn't anticipating this." Bastion said looking at the different decks warily, there was no telling how many if any aside from her HEROs required fusions. If he picked the wrong one then the entire plan he devised against her fusion cards would be useless. Thankfully each of his decks had cards for his backup plan against the Dark World monsters she had used in her duel against Demetri. However those were only two of the ten decks he saw.
"Always expect the unexpected and try to plan for every possible outcome." Jaden said and Bastion spent long enough scrutinizing the decks that everyone felt a flash of pure bloodlust and rage come from the teachers area even though they couldn't tell which teacher. Bastion felt a cold sweat break out as he remembered that Crowler was there and rather…irrational when it came to his daughter.
To the overprotective father it must seem as if the brit was eyeing Jaden's chest.
"I try. However, you often seem able to throw me off my game. How about deck number 1?" Bastion asked smiling at her and Jaden snickered at that, something that made his collar feel a bit warm again. He really needed to look up why he kept reacting like this around her. It wasn't like him but he trusted that she wasn't using some vampire ability against him to cause this kind of thing.
"Hope you weren't relying on going against my HEROs or Fusions in general. This deck has none." Jaden said with a smirk as he withdrew the chosen deck and shuffled it, his blazer falling back into its usual place as he released it.
Bastion frowned briefly at that. Well that made his strategy against fusions go up in smoke, that was fine. He could use the card against the fusions as a discard for when he would have to discard from his hand.
"Come now Jaden. You know that I never have just one strategy. I try to prepare for several different strategies just in case the first falls through." Bastion said smirking back at her and making her smirk widen. It showed off one of her pointy eye teeth but thankfully it was small and hard for those not near her or staring right at her mouth to see. He could see it clearly, the others however weren't able to see that one of her teeth were sharper than the others.
"Good. Then this might be fun. No hard feelings when I win?" Jaden asked making him chuckle. Her confidence without arrogance was refreshing, especially against those who were rather arrogant here but often didn't have the skills to back it up.
"As long as there are none when you lose." Bastion said and Jaden snorted.
"I know how you work Bastion. You likely planned for my HEROs and fusion cards, or possibly my Dark World deck that you saw me use against Demetri. So you planned for fusions and discards…not for this deck. I guarantee you that while I wouldn't be surprised if you did expect me to play this kind of deck…I'd be surprised if you had made a deck to go against it outright. Especially since I saw that frown when I said there were no fusions in this deck. That means that you had that deck set up against fusions. Not likely you had it set up against fusions, discards and this deck." Jaden said and Bastion winced ever so slightly. She was telling the truth. He wasn't sure what kind of deck she had just put in her duel disk…but since it wasn't her HEROs or Dark Worlds…
A deck he wouldn't be surprised she play but not one he likely made a deck against? Hm…
"I see…I can think of three different types you could play and I not be surprised by. This will be fun and a stimulating challenge indeed." Bastion said smirking. Just because he hadn't seemingly planned for that kind of deck she was going to use, and he wouldn't put it past her to try and trip him up with psychological warfare, didn't mean he was going to throw in the towel.
"You're always fun and a good challenge Bastion. So…shall we dance Bass?" Jaden asked and the smirk on her face as well as the nickname she had seemingly given him.
"We shall." Bastion said and both of them drew five cards as their life counters went to 4000 Life Points.
Bastion watched her face curiously, even as he glanced over his cards, and he felt his heart speed up just a bit when he saw how her eyes lit up a bit and she smiled softly.
That probably wasn't good for him, duel wise. However…wow…he would admit, far away from Crowler and his sense of hearing of course, that Jaden was rather beautiful both out of her male disguise and in it.
"You can have first turn Bass." Jaden called to him and he started out of that thought, a small blush on his face as he realized that he had just been staring at her for a moment.
"Thank you." Bastion shook his head a little, trying to clear it.
He was not going to lose his head over a girl…especially not in the middle of a duel!
