Bastion was doing his best to keep a straight face as he entered the Gravekeeper's area and had all of them whipping around to look at him surprised to find another intruder.
"An intruder! Get him!" The chief, Bastion recognized him from the cards having considered a Gravekeeper deck before and now might make one just in case or for the fun of it after they were back in the human realm.
"I am a messenger!" Bastion said loudly and without twitching when a few of the Gravekeepers approached him with their weapons drawn.
"What message could a human possibly bring to us?!" The chief scoffed at him but Bastion kept his face straight.
"I am here on the behalf of the Supreme Queen!" Bastion said calmly and he saw as the Gravekeepers tensed and looked nervous, mutters running rampant.
"The…The supreme queen?"
"He said the Supreme Queen right?"
"How would a human know of her?"
"Is he really here on her behalf?"
"Guys I'm not attacking someone sent by the Supreme Queen."
"I like living thanks."
"But aren't we already spirits?"
"Shut up Carl."
"You lie boy! There is no way the Supreme Queen would send a human to us! Nor would she ever consort with one! I do not know how you came to know of her existence but now you will pay! Kill the intruder men!" The chief said loudly and angrily but also looking a bit scared.
The other Gravekeepers exchanged worried and confused looks when Bastion didn't look the least bit concerned.
"I came here in peace to do the task the Supreme Queen has asked of me." Bastion said calmly and kept his eyes focused on the chief even if he did take in and notice everyone else in between the two of them.
"You don't even know what the Supreme Queen looks like! You probably just heard whispers of her greatness!" The chief snarled at him but Bastion remained unphased.
"Boy! You speak of the Supreme Queen!" Another Gravekeeper, Bastion thought it was the fusion one but didn't know it's name right off hand, said as he exited the temple behind the chief.
"The spiritualist came out of the temple?"
"I've never seen him leave the temple before."
"We have a spiritualist?"
"Carl how the fuck have you lived this long?"
"No clue."
"I do." Bastion said looking at the Spiritualist now since the Chief was backing away from him and bowing his head slightly.
"Tell me why should we believe you know who the Supreme Queen is or that you come with a message from her?" The spiritualist asked staring at Bastion who didn't even blink.
"Because I was sent ahead to tell you that she is coming. She was approximately two minutes behind me so now-" Bastion cut himself off when he heard soft heel clicking behind him, turning and bowing his head to the woman behind him. Something which also let him hide his blush from everyone.
"Now now Bastion. As one of my most loyal vassals I believe I told you that you need not bow your head to me." Jaden's voice was no longer tomboyish or even Jadens at all. It was lyrical, soft but stern, and carried a hypnotic quality to it while being soaked in royal confidence.
"It is only proper to give you the respect you deserve, my Queen." Bastion said with his head still bowed while the heel clicking noise drew close and loud gasps rang out from the gravekeepers.
"Th-That's her!"
"It really is the supreme Queen!"
"That human is one of her vassals?"
"Lucky bastard."
"I'd love to be one of her servants."
"Think she'll step on me if I ask?"
"What the fuck Carl?"
"We were all thinking it!"
"Shut the fuck up Carl."
Bastion felt a soft hand touch his chin and glanced up, seeing Lilith smile down at him with her fangs on display.
"Rise my dear Bastion. Stand at my side and protect my blind spot." Lilith said and Bastion immediately straightened up and stood at her side stiffly, keeping an eye out for anyone who might dare attack her. Not that anyone would since she also had her Elemental HERO's with her and they were around her as a protection detail.
Which meant that Bastion's eyes were mostly on Lilith. Lilith who had one gold eye and one purple eye both slit like a cats, was wearing a long black dress that hugged her growing curves in just the right spot but had two large slits in the back near her shoulder blades to show some strange scars on her back. She also had a sword at her side hanging onto a single deep purple sash while her hair laid flat and looked so silky smooth. She had a paper fan in one hand as she turned from Bastion to the assembled Gravekeepers who were all kneeling and bowing their heads, even the chief and spiritualist.
"Now then…" Lilith's blood red lips pulled up into a small smile that showed her fangs peeking out past her lips.
"Will someone kindly explain to me why my dear Vassal was threatened whilst running an errand for me? Or perhaps why there are several other humans here in the realm of the Gravekeepers?" Lilith asked looking directly at the Chief and Spiritualist and making the Spiritualist raise their head slightly confused.
"My queen. I only left my temple upon hearing that a human male had come here and spoke of you which alarmed me as I was unaware you had a human vassal. I was not aware of other humans being in our realm." The spiritualist said and Lilith gave a small nod of understanding.
"Thank you dear Spiritualist. Perhaps someone else will answer me then? Why are there several humans in this realm?" Lilith asked and she had no need to raise her voice since everyone was hanging onto her every word.
"We…we do not know your majesty. They merely appeared here and we thought that they wished us harm. Our laws state that no human shall live upon seeing our realm and so-" The chief began as he raised his head to look at her but Lilith merely raised a single eyebrow which cut him off.
"And so you decided to attack or kill them without once giving them the right to duel for their freedom as the Shadow Realm laws dictate? Without even giving them a chance to speak? As if they were rabid animals instead of living breathing sentient people more than capable of rational thinking and talking?" Lilith asked and the chief winced at those points.
"And so because you did not decide to give them a chance to speak you were going to kill the humans who are under my direct watch and protection?" Lilith asked causing whispers and murmurs to fly while the Chief paled rapidly.
"W-wha…the humans are…" The chief stuttered a bit now as he stared at her stunned and horrified.
"I have been in the human world for the last few years running discreet tests and analysis on humans. The ones you currently have locked away awaiting death are some of my test subjects. They were exploring some ruins in the human world and stumbled into a rip between the worlds by mistake. That is how they arrived here, however if you had given them a chance to speak you would have realized that they know my 'human side' and were under my protection. I do not appreciate my test subjects coming to the Realm before I was ready for them to, but I understand it was an accident. However I also do not appreciate my test subjects being locked up and risking execution for a mere accident." Lilith said her eyes narrowing slightly on the chief who was trembling.
"Avian, Burstinatrix, Clayman. Retrieve my test subjects and ensure that they are unharmed." Lilith commanded, making the three HERO's kneel to her for a moment before rushing off, a Gravekeeper girl showing them to where the humans were.
"May…May I be so bold as to ask what kind of experiment it is you are doing with the humans my queen?" The spiritualist asked making Lilith hum a little bit.
"I am seeing if exposure to myself and my natural powers will affect them long term or perhaps even turn them into new Spirits upon their demise in the human realm. It may be a long experiment, lasting several years at the very minimum, but it will be a quite interesting one since I will have them all at different stages of exposure. My vassal here, My Dear Bastion, being the only one of the humans who knows my real form and is most exposed to the power I wield." Lilith said after a moment and there were more whispers and murmurs at the prospect of new duel spirits and more than a few of the spirits were staring at Bastion now.
"Silence." Lilith's voice didn't even raise or lower, she spoke normally, but everyone instantly went silent upon her order.
"I expect that if I should send My Dear Bastion here again as a messenger for myself then he would be given the respect a person of his position deserves. At this moment in time he is the first of my Vassals and my advisor who specializes in equations and human logic. If there is anyone with an issue with that, let that person step forward and challenge him to a duel for his title or challenge my own self to a duel for my judgement. Just be warned, if you challenge him then you are indirectly challenging myself. And if you should challenge me then My Dear Bastion here will-" Lilith cut herself off as she pointed at Bastion who gave them all a dark glare couple with his otherwise stoic face as he slightly flexed his muscular arms which were on full display since his school blazer was open and worn more as a cape right now.
"Be more than honored and happy to deal with it." Bastion said as he flexed his fingers as if itching to draw a weapon, which he did have on him. Lilith had gotten a sword, a tanto he believed it was called, and handed it to him. She said that she would explain more about it later but for now it would do and he was more than welcome to keep it when they made it back to the human realm.
"You think you are strong enough to defeat a Gravekeeper boy?" The chief demanded shooting to his feet with a snarl, instantly there was a sonic boom like noise as the chief was thrown like a rag doll across the area and into a wall.
"The queen did not give you permission to stand." A gravely cold voice said darkly as everyone took in the new arrival, although none of the gravekeepers dared move or stand. Bastion saw out of the corner of his eye how Lilith's eyes were no longer purple and gold but were now just golden with a hint of red to them.
"Is that-"
"The dragon Yubel?!"
"The Queens most staunch defender."
"The warriors with the dragon heart."
"The Queens Captain of the Guard."
"Holy shit guys she's hot as hell."
"What the fuck Carl?"
"Lady Yubel." Bastion said nodding to the spirit he had met for a moment when Lilith was letting him in on the plan to save the others. Noticing how she had the purple and gold eyes that Lilith had a mere few seconds ago.
"Vassal Bastion." Yubel said nodding back as she looked at him and gave him an appraising eye before turning her attention to Lilith as the HERO's showed up with the formerly captive humans.
"My Queen. I apologize if I was not to fight however I could not let him disrespect you as he had done." Yubel said bowing to Lilith who merely gave a small chuckle.
"It is quite alright dear Yubel. I knew as soon as he rose that you would not let him get away with it. Now however that our purpose here has concluded…let us return to the human realm." Lilith said smiling at Yubel who smirked and nodded her head before she flew upwards and away, vanishing as Lilith's eyes returned to being their two different colors.
"I am at your side and your command My Queen." Bastion said when Lilith's eyes turned to him and she smiled softly at him before she reached forward and put a hand on each of the others in turn, sending them back to the human realm. Then taking Bastions hand in her own she turned back to the Gravekeepers.
"Please do not make the mistake of threatening My Dear Bastion again. You shall not like the consequences for it." Lilith said calmly before they vanished from the Shadow Realm and reappeared back under the shady tree in the human realm. Lilith immediately being covered in shadows before returning to her Jaden disguise as she sunk down.
"Gods that is draining to do, especially in sun light." Lilith sighed as Bastion kneeled next to her worriedly, smiling in relief that she was alright just tired. He could still feel the sword on his back however and wondered when it would disappear into shadows.
"You were amazing Lilith." Bastion murmured softly to her and she gave him a small smile.
"Thank you My Dear Bastion. For now though I need to rest, I can explain the sword to you later." Lilith said and she was immediately closing her eyes and leaning into him as she drifted off while he merely chuckled and adjusted their position to be more comfortable for them both, his arm wrapping around her.
"Then rest my queen." Bastion murmured as he kissed her head.
It was only as he was drifting off into a quick nap as well that he realized that she called him 'Her Dear Bastion' whereas she had called the Spiritualist 'Dear Spiritualist'…
He blushed a bit as he realized that she had been calling him hers and emphasizing that he was hers the whole time to the Gravekeepers.
Oh. I might have to ask her out soon. Or my head and heart will explode.
