Naruto entered the hallway of the main building nervously. He slowly looked back at Hinata who saw the panic in his eyes immediately. It was incredibly strange to see him so worried. Usually he just kept his emotions inside of him or he tries to hide them from other people in order not to seem weak, but this time he let it show due to the fact that this was the first time he had found out information about his family. He didn't know how to react. He didn't know how to hide such shock.
"Follow me." The woman said as they walked down the hallway and stopped in front of a door. She looked back at Naruto for a second then gently knocked on the door.
"Yes?" A raspy voice replied.
Mizu slid the door open and slowly walked into the room where an old woman was sitting behind a table, reading a book.
"Mother, we have guests."
"I see! Come on in dear friends. Oh, they are so young!" Thewoman smiled. "Are you alone? It's a bit of an odd location for children to be, isn't it?"
"We are just coming back from a finished mission." Said Sasuke.
"Is that so?" She blinked a few times before exclaiming. "Well, would you look at that! Are those ninja headbands from the Leaf village you are wearing?"
"Yes." Hinata replied. "We are genin from the leaf village."
"Mother…" Mizu said. "This young man…" she said putting her hand on Naruto's shoulder. "This is Naruto Uzumaki." she continued.
The older woman stared a bit before slowly taking off her reading glasses. "Uzumaki you say? Oh, goodness me, it's been quite a long time since I last saw an Uzumaki. Are you alone, my dear? Did you come with your parents?"
"Umm…no…I…" Naruto stammered. "I actually… don't have parents…"
"How can that be?" The older woman asked.
He went quiet and looked down at his feet trying to hide his face.
"He… has no family, mother." Mizu added quietly.
The older woman slowly reached for her walking cane and got up and started walking towards him. Naruto lifted his head and looked at the woman.
"My parents died the day I was born." He started explaining. "I don't know a single thing about them. I don't know who they were, I don't know what their names were, I don't know what they look like, I don't even know where their bodies are buried."
Hinata flinched that the last part.
"And I don't know of any other living Uzumaki let alone that I had a clan." Naruto finished.
"Oh, I'm so sorry dear." The old woman said. "I am terribly saddened to hear that. One of the builders of this hot spring was an Uzumaki so naturally we had a lot of guests from the Clan. I just never even dreamt that one day they would just stop coming. I thought they had forgotten about this place but I cannot even imagine that the real reason was because they were all deceased."
Suddenly, the woman's face, which was turned towards the window the whole time she was speaking, turned quickly to face Naruto and her eyes went wide. "Wait a minute! Who did you grow up with then?" She asked with a worried tone in her voice.
"No one." Naruto replied sadly. "I was all alone my whole life…"
"Why hadn't anyone thought about getting you back here?" Mizu asked. "There must have been someone in the Leaf who remembered this place."
"I don't know." He replied. "I have never heard of this place before."
"Me neither." Sasuke added.
"Neither have I." Hinata said.
"Well, goodness gracious, that is terrible!" The woman exclaimed shaking her head as she slowly walked towards a sofa slowly sat down.
Naruto's face snapped towards her in realization. "Wait! Do you remember their names? Do you maybe know of anyone who looked like me? My parents could have been here too!"
The old woman looked at the blonde and smiled warmly at him. "Could you do me a favor?"
Naruto just looked at her wordlessly.
"Do you mind giving me a big smile? I know that this is emotional for you but could you please do it for me?"
Naruto looked at her confused for a few seconds before speaking up. "I don't know how I can smile right now. I'm pretty good at faking my smile. I'm used to it. I've done it all my life. But…"
"Well then…" The older woman said. "If you're good at making your fake smile look like the real one give me the fake one then."
Naruto sighed quietly before mustering up the best fake smile he could do at the moment.
The woman smiled even more. "Oh my dear, I cannot tell you who your father was, but I can tell you that I know exactly who your mother was."
His smile dropped in an instant. "You…you do?"
"I remember a woman. She was the last Uzumaki who ever visited this hot spring. She had the brightest, most beautiful smile and such a lively personality. That smile is forever engraved into my heart and my soul because she made everybody so happy. I shall never forget her smile… the exact smile I just saw on your face."
Naruto stared at her without blinking.
"You are right. You're very good at faking it."
"Was she alone?" Naruto asked.
"She would come with this very tall man with long white hair. I know that that was not your father, you do not look like him at all and she would say that her husband was always busy so he could not come with her. Plus, this tall man really seemed to enjoy the hot spring."
Naruto was in absolute shock, he could not say a word. Mouth agape, his neck, like a rusty gear slowly turned towards his teammates.
Sasuke put his hands on his hips and muttered: "Jiraiya…"
Hinata gasped. "There's no way!"
Naruto's breathing started to become louder and he slowly collapsed onto the floor. "I can't believe this! That lying son of a bitch! He knew all along who my parents were. This whole time! Why wouldn't he tell me?!"
Hinata was quickly by his side. "Naruto…"
He turned towards the older woman. "You said she was a cheerful person who made everyone happy, right? So why wouldn't he say anything to me?! She wasn't a criminal or anything, I don't understand why he didn't tell me!"
"There's got to be a reason he was hiding it from you." Sasuke added. "I mean, he's a legendary Sanin, he had to have had a good reason."
"So you know the man? He's still alive?" Mizu asked.
"Yeah, he's my trainer." Naruto answered. "Now I know why he really agreed to train me." Naruto said angrily while Hinata rubbed his shoulder.
Sasuke turned his gaze towards the younger woman. "Do you happen to have any pictures of them?"
"I do in fact." The woman replied. "I'll go get them immediately!" She quickly exited the room.
"You said that all of the Uzumakis were redheads, right?" Sasuke asked and the older woman nodded. "So if this woman was possibly Naruto's mother and he has blonde hair then his father had to have been blonde, right?"
"Believe me young man, if I had seen a man with such striking yellow hair such as your friends' I would have definitely remembered him. Plus, the lady who came always said that her husband was busy so I don't think he ever actually even came here.
"Naruto?" Hinata suddenly called out.
They all looked at the blonde to see a tear making its way down his face.
"You ok?" Sasuke kneeled next to him concerned with the color suddenly draining from his face.
Naruto slowly looked up at his rival. "When… when I asked Pervy Sage why he picked me to be his student he… he said that it's because I remind him of the Fourth who used to be his student…"
Sasuke's eyes narrowed before they suddenly widened.
"He said that the fourth had spiky yellow hair… just like me… and… if this lady is my mom… and her husband was always busy…"
"No way." Sasuke interrupted him as his backside met the wooden flood.
"Oh my Goodness…" Hinata gripped Naruto's shoulder.
"What is the matter?" The older woman asked.
"I found them!" Mizu startled all of them when she suddenly appeared in front of the door. Entering the room she handed Naruto a few pictures. "Here you go."
Naruto took them right away. The first few pictures showed a dozen of red haired people enjoying themselves while eating and drinking while some of them posed for the camera.
"That woman in the corner!" Hinata pointed at the picture.
"Which one?" Sasuke asked.
"The one in the elaborate kimono." Hinata specified. "That's Lady Mito, the first Hokage's wife. She was an Uzumaki! I had no idea."
"What?!" Naruto and Sasuke exclaimed simultaneously.
Naruto flipped through a few more pictures of them with other customers before he came to the final one. The picture was of a woman with beautiful and very long read hair. She was smiling brightly while sharing a pot of tea with a woman who was slightly out of the frame so you could not really see her face.
"There you go." The older woman replied. "That is the lady I told you about next to myself. My daughter Mizu here called out to me right before the picture was taken which is why my head was turned."
"That's my face!" Naruto's voice cracked as his eyes watered. "That's gotta be my mom, it's gotta be!"
"She's beautiful!" Hinata added.
"I know, right?!" Naruto wiped his eyes. "I mean look at her! She's wearing an orange shirt, ya know! That can't be a coincidence!"
"Ya know?" Mizu repeated the blonde's verbal tic. "Isn't that what she used to say, mother?"
"Yes!" The woman replied. "I remember you teasing her about it and imitating her."She chuckled.
"Hey!" Naruto yelled out. "Look at what she's got on her wrists! Those sweatbands! I have those!"
"Maybe they're your mom's." Sasuke suggested.
Naruto's face lit up.
"Maybe you have her shirt too." Hinata added.
"Yeah! Maybe I have more stuff that used to be hers!"
"There you go! Now you know who your mother was!" Mizu said happily.
"Yeah…" Naruto's tone saddened. "I think I know who my dad was too…"
"Oh?"
"Long story…"
"Alright." Mizu nodded.
"What do we do now?"
"Let's just eat and go." Naruto decided. "I gotta have a talk with Pervy Sage."
Sasuke nodded and they all stood up.
"Can I please keep this photo?" Naruto asked.
"Of course, dear." The woman smiled.
"Thank you."
Minutes later they sat at a table outside with a pig plate of sushi in the middle. None of them said a word. They slowly picked off the sushi off of the plate while Naruto seemed to take forever to chew a bite. His eyes were glued to the table and covered by strands of his spiky hair falling over his headband.
"Hey…" Sasuke spoke up. "They sooner we finish this, the sooner we'll get going."
Naruto swallowed his bite slowly.
"Come on, Naruto, eat up." Hinata added.
"Can you two just eat and let me be?" Naruto's quivery voice said while his hand slowly took another piece of sushi and slowly put it in his mouth. The other two looked at him with their chopsticks frozen in their hands when they suddenly saw a tear squiggle down his chewing mouth.
Hinata leaned closer to him to comfort him but instead she saw that he wasn't actually looking at the table… but at a picture of his supposed mother in his lap.
"It's ok, Naruto." She mumbled out not really knowing what to say.
"What if…" He swallowed another bite. "What if she actually isn't my mom and I'm just crying over a picture of some random woman?"
"The sooner we finish eating, the sooner you'll find out." Sasuke added again.
"Alright, fine!" Naruto yelled out and grabbed three pieces of sushi and shoved them in his mouth while starring at Sasuke while he was chewing them.
Sasuke just raised his brows at him while Hinata inhaled sharply trying not to laugh.
After a few minutes the sushi plate was finally clean and Naruto got up as soon as he put the last sushi in his mouth. He put the picture in his pocket and walked towards Mizu and her mother who were seated at another table, watching them eat.
"Thank you for the food." He bowed politely. "We'll visit again someday but now we have to go."
"Of course!" Mizu said.
"I look forward to your future visit." Her mother said.
Sasuke and Hinata bowed too and they all exited the hot spring.
Naruto immediately jumped on a tree.
"Wait up!" Hinata yelled.
"So… what are you gonna do?" Sasuke asked him after he caught up to his rushing teammate.
"I don't know." Naruto answered honestly. "I don't want to sound like an idiot if I'm wrong about this."
"And if you're right?"
"That would mean that I'm the Fourth Hokage's son then… How fucking insane is that?!" His voice suddenly got angrier.
"It's insane alright." Sasuke agreed. "But don't go bragging about it. There's gotta be a good reason people didn't want you to know."
"What if Iruka-sensei knew too?"
"He cares about you Naruto, if he kept it from you he did it to protect you. Don't blame him for it." Hinata added.
"I guess you're right."Naruto calmed down a bit. "Now… let's just get back so I can finally find out…"
He took a deep breath.
"…the truth!"
