Festivities of Lavender!
A couple of days after the Lavender Tower fiasco, Ash and Leaf were greeted to a new sight one morning.
"Ash? Leaf!" Anpu called out, rapping his knuckle against the wooden door. "Hey sleepyheads!" There was a groan before the doorknob turned.
"What happened? Did Spiritomb return again?" Ash asked sleepily, rubbing his eye.
"Bless your vile mouth," Anpu muttered. "Get ready in twenty minutes and meet me outside! There is a surprise waiting for you!" Anpu left leaving a sleepy Ash behind.
"Well, he already has ruined my sleep," Ash muttered, walking over to Leaf and gently shaking her. The brunette had decided to book a double bed room for her and Ash, given the events that had occurred. She suffered from PTSD, nightmares and anxiety, events which Ash didn't want her to face alone.
"Two more minutes…" Leaf mumbled, turning to the other side.
"I'm not falling for that again!" Ash yelled, pulling her covers off. Leaf growled, sitting up straight.
"Fine!" She got up. "What's the occasion?" She questioned.
"Dunno. Anpu came and ordered us to get ready in thirty minutes." Ash replied. "So, given that you're a…" Ash suddenly realized what he just said.
"I'm a what?" Leaf asked.
"A girl," Ash ended lamely. "And you'll take about an hour to get ready, get started!"
"Not my fault we have to make ourselves presentable!" Leaf retorted. "We can't just splash water on our faces and wing it!"
"Yeah, yeah." Ash rolled his eyes, having already gone through this conversation. "Start getting ready." Ash said, on the way to wake their team up too. Given the events of Lavender, Ash wanted to stay close to his team and so did Leaf.
She didn't want to lose any more members.

"Well, you're good to go now." Nurse Joy commented as she finished treating Cynthia's wound. Cynthia pulled her shirt down, jumping to her feet.
"About time!" She cheered, more than excited to be back on the road. While she enjoyed spending time with all of her Pokémon, she wanted to reach Fuchsia too.
"So, you've decided on what Pokémon to adopt?" Nurse Joy questioned. Cynthia nodded.
"All of them." Seeing her surprised look, she continued. "They were fine with it and since I didn't have any problem either," She shrugged. "The more the merrier."
"True." Nurse Joy grinned. "What about the Gible and Eevee?"
"Gible I have already asked and he's more than happy to come with me." Cynthia began. "But Eevee, she seemed unsure when I first offered her."
"Well, she does enjoy your presence." Nurse Joy informed her. "And she did seem a little lighter compared to many Eevee her age. If I were you, I would've captured her already."
"I'll ask her today and see what she thinks." The blonde told the pinkette. "I'll go checkup on them now." Nurse Joy returned to her desk while Cynthia made her way to the backyard. Her entire arsenal of Pokémon, enjoying each other's company, was spread there.
"Hey guys!" She called out. Her call got their attention and they swarmed up to their trainer. "Well, after so many days of rest we're hitting the road again." They cheered. "But there's a drawback."
"When I capture all of you, I can only carry six Pokémon." To her surprise, they didn't seem that surprised. Then again, they did belong to a trainer before, no matter how shitty he was… "And I still have to begin training with you to see which style suits whom. Or whether you even want to battle or are interested in something else."
"Currently though, I haven't set any proper plans." She admitted. "But I do have in mind the team I can have until we reach Fuchsia. Riolu, Luxio," The Electric Type looked up with a grunt. "Gible, Eevee," The Evolution Pokémon perked up. "Braixen and Nidorino."
"Don't worry!" Cynthia continued seeing their disappointment. "I'll be switching everyone around actively. We won't be away for much long!" That did relieve them a bit. "Only Nidorino and Braixen are the experienced Pokémon with me currently. I'll set up a training regime so you can stay in shape and keep up with the rest of the team. We'll do all of that in the future though, so let's worry about that in the future too!"
She turned to Eevee. "Hey girl," She reached out and scratched her behind the ear, Eevee growling in protest before succumbing. "Will you join me in my journey?"
"You'll be safe, well fed, strong, and at home with us." She whispered, hugging her. "What do you say?" Eevee stay quiet in thought. While she liked the prospect of not having to struggle every day to find food and stay protected, the Evolution Pokémon didn't really want to leave the lifestyle she was used to.
She could live freely, free of any chains or bondage, and do whatever she wanted. Steal, kill, no one would stop her. If she joined Cynthia, she'll most definitely not allow her to kill anyone.
Eevee enjoyed killing. She enjoyed the thrill it provided. She enjoyed the adrenaline rush that accompanied it and ran through her veins. Many times it was kill or be killed. She never was the latter.
But many times than not she killed not because she had to, but because she wanted to. A part of her did not like killing or the lifestyle she was currently living.
"I'm not leaving till tomorrow." Cynthia continued. "You can think about it and answer me then. Okay?" Eevee nodded. Cynthia let her go and the Evolution Pokémon jumped off her lap. "I'll officially capture all of you tomorrow so we still have a whole day to ourselves. Let's relax and enjoy!"

"Took you long enough," Anpu commented. "Where's Leaf?"
"Still getting ready." Ash replied. Anpu chuckled.
"Girls." The two shared a laugh. "Should we wait for her?"
"Yeah, she'll only take a couple of minutes now." Ash sat down on one of the various couches in the lobby. "So, how's life without an evil mixture of 107 reigning terror over you?"
"Honestly, I had forgotten what it felt to live freely." Anpu responded. "Life under Spiritomb was hell. Thanks to you and Leaf, we finally got free from him."
"We didn't do it alone. You played a vital role. Our teams, who suffered the most, did." Ash couldn't help but wince thinking about Leaf's current team.
"Leaf's Butterfree…" Anpu grimaced. "He died protecting the trainer he loved. There's no higher honor than that for a Pokémon."
"Yeah." Ash stayed silent for a few moments, thinking about his starter. Mystic was… well, she was deeply hurt. Physically, she had healed fine. But mentally was another story altogether.
"Mystic will be fine." Anpu spoke up, recognizing his thoughts. "The Elder is going to help him, don't worry."
"I hope so." Ash mumbled. Any further conversation was halted as Leaf descended down from the stairs. "Finally," Ash commented.
"Hope I didn't overdo it." Leaf questioned, twirling and showcasing the long black and white floral gown she had decided to wear.
"Not at all," Anpu replied, getting up. "Ready to move?" They nodded. "Let me introduce you…" The trio reached to the exit and walked out. "The Lavender Town Festival!"
"Whoa." Ash exclaimed. The gloomy, misty Lavender Town he had gotten used to replaced. In place of it was a decorated, lively town. In no way did it remind it of the Lavender Town he had arrived at.
"Surprised?" Anpu asked him. Ash nodded, still trying to wrap his mind around the change. "No one would say this is the 'Lavender Town'. So happy, lively. Positive."
"Can't say it doesn't deserve it." Leaf responded. Ash released his Espeon who greeted him with a purr. Ash kneeled down and scratched her behind the ear soothingly. "We're at Lavender Town and are going to enjoy the festivities. Kay?" Mystic nodded.
"You can release all of your Pokémon if you want to." Anpu told him. "There are a lot of Pokémon around anyway. They'll be completely safe." Ash considered it and nodded. Grabbing his pokéballs, Ash released his current team. Leaf did so too.
"We're at Lavender Town and going to enjoy the festivities." Ash told them. "Go enjoy. There are a lot of Pokémon and humans here. Just remember to behave, kay?" They nodded and spread out. Ash looked at Anpu. "Let's see what this festival has to offer."
"Tons," The trio continued moving, Leaf staying a bit close to Ash when she saw the Ghosts around. The Palletian, too busy looking around, didn't notice.
Ash had a hard time trying to digest the sudden liveliness in Lavender Town. The town was always shrouded in darkness and mystery, from the stories they heard as children to lore and myths. The Lavender Tower didn't help and so didn't Ghost Type's shady activities.
"You'll get used to it." Anpu chuckled. "Hey Haunter." Anpu greeted. Ash looked forward and saw the same Haunter who assisted them in Lavender Town floating around him.
"Hello Haunter," Ash greeted. "Enjoying?" Haunter nodded joyously, doing a loop in the air.
"He's one brave ghost." Anpu commented. "Not many can stand up to such a fearsome entity and still live to tell the tale." Haunter shrank back, no doubt remembering how he cowardly hid instead of trying to save Mystic.
"Hey, don't feel bad." Ash spoke up. "You were the one who prevented Gengar from ending it all in the first place. And let's be honest, we all were scared shitless. We just didn't show it."
"True that." Leaf agreed. Haunter felt a bit better at that. "If anything, you were the first one to help me. If you don't know, he saved you when you were approaching Lavender Town."
"That was you?" Ash asked in surprise. Haunter nodded. "Thank you. What were you doing so far from Lavender though?" Haunter gestured to Leaf.
"Misdreavus would tell me bits and stories from everything she and her lackeys did or saw." Leaf mumbled. "She mentioned you quite a few times."
"Enough with these flashbacks!" Anpu interrupted. "We're here to enjoy the festival, and we're going to enjoy it!"
"Roger that." Leaf smiled. "So, where to first?"

Cynthia finished packing her bag, double checking the room for anything that belonged to her. She zipped it shut and kept it beside her bag, stretching.
"Let's get something to eat up first." She mumbled, getting up and walking down to the cafeteria. She spotted Nurse Joy idly playing with her pink curls and shot her a grin.
"Bored?" Nurse Joy nodded.
"You already captured all of your Pokémon. It's getting really boring now." She commented.
"That's true." She commented. A few trainers were in their room, no doubt tired from travelling so much. Not many took this path, given its length.
"So I take it Eevee isn't going to join you?" She asked. Cynthia nodded, a bit sad. "I did spot her hanging around though. Maybe you can go talk to her."
"I'll try." Cynthia agreed. "I'm going to the cafeteria." The blonde took her leave and headed to the cafeteria. Quickly fetching her desired food, she was about to leave when she spotted Eevee.
"Hey Eevee," She called out. The Evolution Pokémon yipped back a greeting and strolled over to her. She crouched down, scratching her behind the ear. "You want something to eat?" Eevee shook her head. She was good.
Cynthia headed out towards the backyard, sitting on one of the benches there, Eevee on her side. "So, you've decided on whether you want to join me or not?"
Eevee didn't reply, enjoying the cool night breeze. At least the nights were chilly. The heat was getting really intense.
"I don't mean to pressure you or anything Eevee." Cynthia continued, swallowing a bit of her food. "I'm leaving tomorrow." She told her. "I have kept an extra reserve spot for you in my team in case you want to join."
Eevee didn't reply, taking in all the information. "You can think about it tomorrow. If you don't want to join, I won't mind or feel bad." Cynthia assured her. "It's your choice."
"But to be honest," She continued. "I've grown a liking to you." Eevee blinked. "When we, me and my friend Ash, began our journey, I had a choice. I could either choose Eevee, who is an Espeon now, or the then un-evolved Fenniken."
"I contemplated on who to choose. On one hand, I could spend time with a foreign Pokémon from Kalos and learn more about her, a species I never even saw. On the other hand, I could spend time with an Eevee, a Pokémon known for its genetic makeup. I could unlock so many secrets from her, and also discover new evolutions like a Kalos trainer did with Sylveon in Kalos."
"From a researcher's point of view, something I endeavor to become, both were excellent choices. I could unravel so much from both Fenniken and Eevee. However," She took another bite. "Fenniken is a starter from Kalos. Tons of research would've already been carried on her. There's little I could've find about her."
"Eevee, however, is a bundle of mysteries." She looked at the Evolution Pokémon. "Its DNA acts depending on the surrounding. We have so many evolution of one Pokémon, but many more are to be found. We could have the rare Dragon Type evolution or a Flying Type too. Different circumstances would've helped to understand more."
"From a trainer's point of view, Eevee was still the better choice for a trainer starting in Kanto." She paused. "Me and Ash had saved Eevee long ago. We had been really well acquainted with her. Meanwhile, I had seen Fenniken for the first time. It's obvious who I would choose."
"Starters have a low rate of being disobedient, but the rate still exists." She took another bite. "Who's to guarantee Fenniken is obedient? My whole journey could've been put at a hold if she decided to leave me or deemed me unworthy."
"From both POVs, I should've chosen Eevee." Eevee yipped, no doubt questioning why she didn't. "My friend Ash really liked Eevee. I was equally interested in Fenniken anyway, so it wasn't anyone's loss." Eevee cocked her head. "But, I still want to raise an Eevee."
"They are rare, and many Eevee raised by trainers are either adopted or gifted. Eevee are poached a lot, due to their build." Eevee looked at Cynthia with slight alarm. "Very few Eevee survive in the wild. You very nearly joined Arceus had I not found you when I did."
Eevee nodded. She did owe Cynthia that much. "I don't regret choosing Fenniken at all. Instead, I'm really happy to have the team I have now. She's rare, and very less trainer know about her which gives me an advantage. She's a great Pokémon to be with. And that's excluding my personal attachment to her."
"But I still want to train an Eevee." She ended. "Living in the wild can be difficult." Eevee suddenly remembered that she saw her kill that Spearow. "I'm offering you a safe home. Somewhere you'll be fed daily, will be safe, and have a family."
Eevee scoffed, remembering her real family. "I know family can be complicated and all," Cynthia related, remembering her family status. Divorced parents, and maybe a sibling… "But for me, they're worth it."
"You killed that Spearow Eevee." Cynthia continued. "Obviously, with me you cannot kill a Pokémon unless it's direly necessary." Eevee frowned. "The laws of wild Pokémon and tamed Pokémon are different."
Eevee replied, saying that the wild didn't even have any laws. "I know," Cynthia finished her food. "I'm no one to judge you Eevee. Many Pokémon die, trainers die." Eevee nodded in agreement. "But sooner or later, you'll be the prey not the predator. I don't want that to happen."
Eevee shrugged, saying that she had ample experience in running away from adversaries. "Some Eevee have the ability Run Away. It must be assisting you too." Cynthia set her tray aside and gently picked Eevee up, settling her in her lap.
"We may or may not be together after tonight." She mumbled, running her fingers through her fur. "But all I could say tell you is that thanks." Eevee yipped in confusion. "You vouched for me. That helped me a lot." Eevee said that she was just repaying the favor.
"Let me tell you about the time I met Ash's Espeon." She grinned and began to tell Eevee about their first meeting. Eevee listened intently as she switched to her current team.
Some Indefinite Time Later…
Cynthia yawned. "Well, I'm going to my room to rest up now." She got up, a sleepy Eevee in her grip. "Want to come with me to rest up for the night?" Eevee nodded before she was even halfway her sentence.
Cynthia smiled and the two sleepy creatures called it a night.

"That was fun." Leaf commented as they got off the Ferris Wheel. "Well, judging from all the planning we did inside, we should check the market first."
"Sure. I want to get some souvenirs anyway." Ash shrugged.
"For who?" Leaf winked suggestively.
"Mom," Ash defended. "Who else do you think I would get them for?"
"Oh Ashy you're so dense." Leaf chuckled. "Now, c'mon! We have so much to explore and so less time to do it!" Ash nodded and the two walked over to the market side.
"Wow, look at all the pretty stuff around here." Leaf commented, occasionally pausing at some of the stalls. "I won't mind buying some for myself too." She mumbled.
"You should." Ash said, looking over the variety of pokéballs at a stall. Though he still had the three Net Balls he purchased in Cerulean, Ash wouldn't mind more variety.
"I will but I just don't know what to!" Leaf exclaimed. The two continued exploring until Leaf finally found something she wanted to purchase. "This necklace seems nice." She commented, picking up a necklace with a black crystal.
"Will suit you." Ash gave his opinion.
"My choice never fails." Leaf winked. "How much for this?" She asked the shopkeeper.
"Oh, for the Saviors of Lavender, you may take it." He dipped his head.
"Uh… no." Leaf said, a bit taken aback from the immense respect they were given and offers they were being presented. "I really don't like to just take things."
"Very well," The shopkeeper relented. "You may give whatever you wish to." Leaf nodded and handed him her take on the price. The shopkeeper took the money gratefully and nodded.
"Hey, put this on me will you?" Leaf pulled her chestnut hair away and offered Ash the necklace.
"Sure," Leaf felt her cheeks heat a bit as Ash slipped the necklace around her neck and tightened it. "Here, all done."
"How do I look?" Leaf asked, showcasing it.
"You look nice." Ash praised. Leaf felt her cheeks redden for some odd reason.
"Aw, Ash Ketchum finally gave me a compliment." She joked. "Someone's changing."
"Yeah yeah laugh it up." Ash grumbled. Leaf chuckled and threw her arms around him for a hug.
"I love you too." She giggled, feeling her face heat even more. What was wrong with her?! "Now, c'mon! We have a lot to explore!" Breaking the hug, she ran away.
"Hey Leaf! Wait!" Ash ran after her. 'Why is she acting so weird? Is she possessed?' Ash wondered.
"Finally Slowpoke." She commented as Ash reached her.
"Find Your Soul Mate?" Ash read the board. "You're going to get this checked?" Leaf shrugged.
"It's worth a try." She turned to Ash. "Though you'll chicken out, am I right?"
"I don't believe in this stuff. No offense." He said to the aged man sitting.
"None taken." Ash turned to Leaf.
"I'll check it out first. But you have to do the same if I tell you to later on! Kay?"
"Aye aye captain." Leaf paid for her ticket and the aged man began to check her. Ash patiently waited as Leaf went through the process.
"Close your eyes." Leaf did as she was said to. "Whoever you see now, is your soul mate." Leaf opened her eyes and burst into laughter.
"You must've checked for a parallel universe!" She said, still laughing. "There is no possible way this is going to happen."
"Destiny has its way." He calmly replied.
"Who was it?" Ash asked. Leaf shook her head.
"First get yours checked and only then I'll reply." Leaf replied smugly. Ash shrugged and paid for his ticket. The aged man did what he did to Leaf and told Ash to close his eyes.
"Who do you see?" He asked.
"Who are they?" Leaf blinked.
"They?" Ash nodded. "Whoa, someone's scoring big."
"I recognize one of them but who's the other?" The man shrugged.
"You may meet her in the future." Ash pursed his lips.
"Who did you recognize?" Leaf asked.
"First you." Leaf blinked. "I mean you tell first." Ash rectified himself.
"Gary," Ash managed to stay serious for two seconds before exploding into laughter. Leaf joined him immediately.
"How's that possible?" Ash questioned between chuckles. He looked at the aged man. "You must be feeling offended, We're really sorry."
"I understand." He smiled. "You're not the first naïve kids to come across this old man."
"We deserve that." Leaf nodded. "So, who did you see?"
"Two blondes, one I recognize, and one I don't." Ash replied bluntly.
"How many blondes you know?" Leaf asked innocently.
"One was Cynthia," He paused at Leaf's squeal. "But I didn't recognize the other. She had honey blonde hair… I think."
"If she really is your soul mate you'll probably meet her in the future." She replied. "Now, I can't wait to tell Cynthia about this!" Ash got a horrified look.
"Do that and I'll tell Gary everything." Leaf blinked. "I still have your Truth or Dare recording, remember?"
"Are you really going to blackmail me like that?" Leaf questioned, giving Ash her puppy eyes.
"Why wouldn't I?" Ash smirked. "Revenge is the sweetest thing next to getting an Eevee."
"That quote doesn't flow well." Leaf blinked.
"That's the censored version." Ash replied. "Now, let's keep all of this under wraps or the recording is going straight to…"
"Okay, fine." Leaf sighed. "What's wrong with me telling her though? Everyone knows you two have a thing going on!"
"Wonder if Gary has a pokégear number…" Ash mumbled.
"Okay, okay, fine." Leaf relented. "Thanks a lot." She said to the aged man. "Since I chose this spot, it's your turn." Ash nodded and the two took off.
"There," Ash gestured to a booth.
"Pokémon Quiz." Leaf read. "I'll win." She challenged.
"Yeah right," Ash scoffed. "We'll see." The two walked over to the booth and paid for their tickets.
"The one to identify the Ghosts Type first wins." The man in the booth said. He lifted the first cardboard, a dark outline of the Pokémon on it.
"Misdreavus." Leaf spoke up immediately. "Hell if I'll ever forget that…" She mumbled.
"Aegislash." Ash took the next score. The two kept trading scores back and forth till the end.
"You win Ma'am." He handed Leaf her prize, a Gengar plushy. Leaf stuck her tongue out at Ash.
"So much for confidence." Ash grumbled jokingly. Leaf smirked.
"Aw, don't cry." She teased.
"C'mon, we still have a lot of things to explore!" Ash told Leaf and the two continued on into the Festival, enjoying the town for the first time.
Xxx
Mystic roamed around the town, feeling the vastly different vibes in awe. Though her ESP was affected from the trip in Lavender Tower, she still had her enhanced senses.
By her right was Ash's Unovan Grass Type, Viper. The Grass Type had opted to stick with her, not needing any special power to feel her anxiety.
Any Ghost Type bowed or paid respect to the Espeon and Servine whenever one passed them. To say the two were surprised would be an understatement.
Especially Mystic who was a bit wary of Ghosts. One could understand her, given Misdreavus, Mismagius, and Spiritomb's pleasure in torturing her.
The Grass Snake, not wanting her to be alone when she was at probably at her lowest, stuck with her. The Sun Pokémon really appreciated her concern.
The two were headed to the Elder's house, so Mystic could meet the Elder's Gengar. Mystic was undergoing therapy by the Ghost/Poison Type so her Psychological wounds could properly heal overtime.
Viper didn't know the extent of what Spiritomb did to Mystic but she was sure no sane being could treat a living being that horribly. Mystic wasn't just hurt, she was… broken.
Viper knew Mystic quite a lot given from the time they spent together. Though Mystic hid her pain a lot (She had changed from when she was an Eevee) Viper could easily see through it. Most of the team could. But there was very little they could do other than being with her.
Viper conversationally mentioned their soon to be new teammate, Haunter. Mystic replied that she was looking forward to him joining. She added that Haunter was most probably a prankster, and Oceanus was enough as it is.
Viper agreed, saying that one prankster was enough for her nerves. She could bash Oceanus easily since he couldn't dive into the shadows and sneak away. Haunter, on the other hand…
Mystic chuckled, saying that she could just freeze the sneaky prankster in the air for Viper. Viper replied jokingly, saying that she'll appreciate it.
"Ah, if it isn't the Savior's Valiant Pokémon." Mystic and Viper looked at the Elder staring down at the two. "Hey dear," He crouched down and scratched Mystic's ear. Mystic leaned into his touch, feeling her anxiety move away. He patted Viper as well, the Grass Snake bowing her head in respect.
"Come, I was waiting for you two." Viper blinked, not quite sure how he knew the two were heading to him specifically. Mystic cleared her doubts by saying that the Elder had Ghosts spread far and wide across Lavender. It would be impossible to roam Lavender without him knowing.
The duo followed the Elder to his home, entering inside. His Gengar came out of the shadows, bowing to the Sun Pokémon and the Grass Snake. Mystic was surprised yet again. Gengar, a Pokémon who could alone defeat both of them easily, was bowing to them?
"One can be the strongest being yet could fall short." The Elder said. "It is Bravery which is the real asset for victory." Mystic nodded. "A Brave Soul can stop the Biggest Disasters." That made sense.
"So Mystic," The Elder sat down on his rocking chair, gesturing the two to take a seat. His Gengar settled down beside him. "Or should I say, Luna." Mystic blinked. "There are many things a Mortal mind cannot comprehend, many laws we have to abide to, many boundaries that keep us from exceeding certain limits."
"If I could, I would've gladly told you the reason I called you Luna." Viper looked at the Sun Pokémon with narrowed eyes. "Your Trainer, Ash Ketchum, the Storm Tamer." Mystic yipped, questioning just what that title meant.
"It's a title, something given as appreciation or as a 'Thank You'. Just like Ash has earned himself the title of Storm Tamer." The two nodded. "My grandson must've mentioned the Prophecy mentioning the term 'Storm Tamer' has he not?" They nodded. "As I mentioned before, I cannot tell you much." He added apologetically.
Viper spoke up, asking that what was up with Mystic and the name 'Luna', especially since Mystic was the 'Sun Pokémon' and not an Umbreon. "Very long ago in Lavender Town's ancient history, an era forgotten to the books, Luna was a warrior who fought against evil doers and sought justice. She ultimately lost her life but her efforts helped in the fight against the Dark Paladins." Viper blinked.
"Spiritomb is an entity, a secret weapon created by the Dark Paladins as means to conquer the world. Luna, with a Pokémon whose name has been lost, destroyed the evil entity even if it meant losing her life. She lost too much over the course of the countless battles and wars fought, she sacrificed everything she had, and even then she didn't back down. Luna, a warrior forgotten to many, whose Legacy has been adulterated through various writers and sources."
The Elder paused, letting his words sink in. "The Dark Paladins," He answered their unasked question. "Were a group of Dark Aura Users, who wanted to spread their plague all over the globe and destroy every Aura User out there. They disappeared mysteriously after the destruction of the Original Spiritomb, and have never appeared since. Good riddance!"
Mystic yipped, asking more about Luna. "Ah, Luna." The Elder smiled. "I would love to tell you the countless tales my Father told me but it would simply take a lot of time. I'm sure you'll like to enjoy the festivities of Lavender Town."
"You must be wondering the reason I've mentioned Luna, are you not?" They nodded. "Well, Mystic, I have seen the way you ferociously stood against Spiritomb. I may not be present their physically, but believe me when I say I'm spread around Lavender. That includes the tower."
"Many Pokémon, wild and tamed, have passed Lavender Town. Many trainers have tried to stop Spiritomb but none passed. Why do you think you and your rookie trainer accomplished something even the League Trainer couldn't?"
"You fought against Misdreavus, Mismagius, and Spiritomb. Why do you think you caught their eye particularly?" Mystic blinked as the memories came flooding in. "They wanted to break you, they wanted to destroy you." Mystic looked up in fear.
Viper wrapped her vine around Mystic's paw for support. "And they may or may not have succeeded." Mystic felt her breathe freeze. "Had your friends not intercepted."
"The webs of destiny are far complex than our understandings. But one thing is clear Mystic, you are the one." She blinked. "You are the one to carry on Luna's Legacy." Mystic's purple eyes widened. "You may feel overwhelmed and all Mystic, but that's destiny."
"You can try to run away from this but destiny, destiny happens." Mystic yipped, saying that she believed in free will. "Yes, many do." Elder dipped his head. "However, It's my humble request. Please, carry on the legacy of Luna."
Gengar requested it as well, dipping his head. "A valiant warrior like Luna doesn't deserve to go unnoticed. Her name, and her legacy, both lie in your paws."
Mystic purred discontentedly, not wanting to make such a decision so soon. "If you want time to make a decision, you have it." Mystic nodded. "Now, I have some busy to attend to which concerns you and your entire team too." Mystic gave him a confused look.
"Gengar, please gather them and lead them to the Town Center. Mystic, Viper, kindly come with me." The Elder got up, and, offering to lift the two, exited his house.
Mystic made herself comfy on his shoulder while Viper stayed back, not wanting any male except Ash to get close to her. "My apologies," The Elder dipped his head.
Gengar dove into the shadows and left to gather Ash's team.

"Hey Ash! Leaf!" Anpu called out. "It's time." He jogged up to them.
"For what?" Leaf asked, licking on her purple Haunter popsicle.
"That's a surprise!" He replied. "Now c'mon!" The two followed him, heading towards the center of the town.
"Can you at least tell us something?" Leaf questioned, a bit impatient. Anpu shook his head.
"You'll know soon enough." The two saw many residents of Lavender Town gathered at the Town Center.
"There you are," The Elder smiled. Ash, Anpu, and Leaf saw their entire teams plus Haunter gathered as well. A large object, hidden under a fine purplish clothing, was placed between the crowd.
"What's going on?" Leaf questioned Ash, staring at the crowd of people all looking at them.
"C'mon." Anpu whispered, lightly pushing them and guiding them towards their team. The duo reached their teams and, after brief greetings, stood at attention.
"Anpu, Ash, and Leaf." The Elder began. "Gengar, Mystic, and Ivysaur," The mentioned Pokémon, already having been briefed by the Elder's Gengar, stepped forwards. "The Saviors of Lavender Town." The people of Lavender Town cheered.
"They and their teams defeated the evil 107 souls reigning with terror over Lavender Town, a feat even the mightiest couldn't achieve." He turned to the them. "The people of Lavender give their heartiest Thanks to you." The people bowed down to them.
"Marking this milestone so it cannot be ever forgotten by history," Mystic remembered what the Elder told her about Luna. "We will commemorate a statue." He gestured to the Ghosts near the statue and they grabbed the fine purplish cloth, pulling it off.
The Saviors of Lavender turned around, mouth hanging open at the statue. It was a large statue composed of them, each and every member beautifully and skillfully crafted.
Ash stood in the middle, Leaf and Anpu at his side with their team properly and cleverly spread throughout the entire statue. Words couldn't define the beauty the statue radiated, crafted from Gold with intricate designs carved into it through other metals and substances.
Mystic was on Ash's shoulder, Ivysaur near Leaf's leg with a vine wrapped around her hand. Anpu's Gengar remained in his shadow, cleverly crafted to still be easily noticed.
Viper was near Ash's own Ivysaur, staring calculatingly at anyone staring at the tower. Ash's Haunter was in, unsurprisingly, in his shadow. Leaf's Butterfree was settled on her hat, where she used to rest when she was alive.
Poliwag was in her grip, cutely snuggled into his trainer. Anpu's Aegislash floated high behind the trio, shield glinting in the sun. Froslass and Frillish were on the opposite ends of the statue, made to appear translucent and ghostly.
Every member was cleverly incorporated in the statue making it no less than a masterpiece.
"Everyone, I present you the 'Statue of Saviors'!" The entire crowd cheered and roared their support and gratitude.
"That's so… beautiful." Leaf awed, eyes lingering on Butterfree and Poliwag. She wiped a few tears off her face, not wanting to ruin her makeup.
"Yeah, this is… something else." Ash mumbled. "This is too much." Ash told the Elder respectfully.
"Storm Tamer," The Elder quoted, Ash's starter once again remembering the chat she had with him. "You deserve it. All of you do. Lavender Town will forever be open and grateful to you."
"Thank you." Leaf said. "This means a lot." Elder smiled, easily identifying the sadness she so desperately tried to hide. He placed his hand on her shoulder, squeezing it gently.
Leaf nodded, clearing her thoughts. "You will never be forgotten, nor will be your sacrifices and hard work." The Elder spoke. "The Festivities of Lavender Town will be continued now."
"Hey, c'mon." Ash told Leaf. Leaf nodded and, grabbing his hand for support, decided to leave. Their Pokémon all dispersed alongside the crowd.
"Leaf," The Elder called out. Leaf turned around. "For what's it worth, you are an extraordinary trainer." Leaf smiled sadly.
"Thank you." She dipped her head. "Thanks a lot."
"I suggest you try the Lavender Restaurant." Leaf's eyes lit up a bit at the prospect of food. "From what I heard, you're a big foodie."
"That she is." Ash teased. Leaf lightly punched his shoulder. "Ow."
"Now, I must take my leave." Ash and Leaf dipped their heads in respect as the Elder left.
"So, Miss Foodie." Ash teased. "Wanna get something to eat now?" She nodded.
"Let's go!"

"That was some good food!" Leaf commented as they left the restaurant. Ash nodded, having just eaten some of the best food he had in a while.
"I agree." Ash said. He spotted a group of kids playing. "Hey, doesn't that remind you of the Pallet Crew?" Leaf spotted the kids and nodded.
"It does!" She replied nostalgically. "You were such a crybaby." Ash scoffed.
"Professor! Professor Gary stole my pen!" Ash imitated in a high pitched feminine voice. Leaf wrapped her arm around his neck in a chokehold making him chuckle.
"Don't make me call Cynthia." She warned.
"What makes you think she'll out my secrets?" Ash questioned back cockily.
"If I out Gary's secrets…" She smiled devilishly. "So, should I?"
"Okay, you win." Leaf loosened her grip. "My Pen!" Ash chuckled and ran away making Leaf run after him. He ran towards the kids and crouched.
"Stop her and I'll give you candies, What'cha say?" Ash offered them. The kids, already knowing they were the Savior of Lavender and hence trustworthy, agreed and quickly surrounded Leaf.
"What the?" Leaf asked as they blocked her off.
"Oh, did I mention she's ticklish?" Ash grinned at Leaf's horrified expression. "Do it for candies!" The kids began to assault Leaf making her laugh uncontrollably.
"Look at that." Anpu commented. "The mighty Leaf trapped and surrounded by little kids."
"Thanks to my clever mind." Ash boasted.
"Don't you think she'll, err, murder you for this?" Anpu questioned. Ash burst into laughter at that.
"You really fear her don't you?" Ash asked. Anpu gulped.
"More than Spiritomb honestly." Anpu said.
"Why exactly though?" Ash asked.
"Let's just chalk it up to the first impression she left on me." Anpu began. "And leave it to that."
"Whatever you say boss." Ash mock saluted. "Wanna sit somewhere? My feet are killing me." Anpu nodded and the two sat down on a bench not far away.
"See, I'll live." Ash commented as Leaf began to play with the kids.
"You'll live another day." Anpu said sagely. The two sat in comfortable silence then, simply seeing Leaf play with the kids and spectating the Citizens of the town enjoying the Festival.
"When is your gym opening?" Ash asked Anpu conversationally.
"Pretty soon, within a week or so." He replied. "Only a bit of paper work is remaining. I would've opened it a long time if Spiritomb hadn't happened."
"Better late than never." Ash smiled.
"True." Anpu thought about something. "You'll be my first challenger Ash." The Palletian nodded. "Hey, would you do me a favor?" Ash inclined his head. "Since it's my first fight as a Gym Leader, I want to make it special. Let's have a 6v6 instead of the standard!"
"A 6v6?" Ash exclaimed. "I never had a battle that long." He admitted.
"First time for both of us." Anpu grinned. "What do you say? I'm sure you have a full team by now. You've travelled for four months now."
"True." Ash fixed his cap before grinning. "Okay then, I accept your challenge." Ash extended a hand. "May the better trainer win?" Anpu shook it.
"Yup." Ash thought about his team. Mystic was definitely out. She wouldn't be battling or training anytime soon. Viper and Ivysaur had recently evolved and could their Gym Debut and a test of their abilities. Haunter could also enjoy a battle against a type similar to his own.
Lairon was pretty strong and could definitely hold his own against Anpu's Ghosts. Ash wanted to call Oceanus and Zeus back too. He had given the two some training tasks and techniques to work on to. Charmander and Mystic would have to go back to the lab for some time though.
The selection of pokémon he had done was solid though. A bit lacking in many aspects but Ash would have to make do given one of his heavy hitter was out. Ash could've used her new found ESP to defeat Anpu's Gengar.
However, his current team was good too. Viper and Ivysaur had evolved and were more than strong enough to handle some ghosts, while Zeus and Oceanus were one of his most experienced Pokémon. That left Haunter and Lairon.
Lairon had managed to endure Rhydon's attacks so Ash was confident on him. Haunter was weak and lacking no doubt but since it was a 6 on 6, the others could cover for him.
That settled it. Haunter, Viper, Zeus, Ivysaur, Lairon, and Oceanus.
"Hello! Earth to Ash!" Ash blinked as Leaf waved her hand in front of his head.
"Back so soon kiddo?" Ash teased.
"Yeah, someone has to keep you two from beginning a battle right now." She threw an arm around Ash's neck. "Boys." She rolled her eyes.
"Says the gender who takes a day to get ready." Anpu muttered, shutting up after seeing Leaf's angry look.
"You really like the Tower don't you?" Ash asked sneakily. Leaf burst into laughter at that.

Cynthia, all ready to leave the Pokémon Center and continue her journey towards Fuchsia, swung her backpack over her shoulder and stepped out of her room.
'I guess Eevee doesn't want to join me.' Cynthia thought, looking around for the Evolution Pokémon. She passed Nurse Joy who gave her a hug.
"It was a pleasure having you here for as long as you did Cynthia." Nurse Joy said. "It's not daily I have such great company."
"Thanks for taking care of me and my Pokémon Nurse Joy. And supporting me against Damien." Cynthia thanked.
"That's what I'm paid for anyway." Nurse Joy joked. The two chuckled. "I don't know whether we'll see each other again, but it's always an honor to meet such strong trainers."
"I'm just a rookie trainer who knows how to treat her Pokémon." Cynthia replied bashfully.
"Many don't even know that." She replied. "So, I guess Eevee won't be joining you?" Cynthia nodded sadly. "It's okay; you can always get an Eevee. They're rare and all but you may find one in Celadon."
"Yeah." Cynthia nodded. "I've already eaten and packed some food for the path and…" Double checking everything mentally, she nodded. "I'm all ready for departure."
"I was joking." She giggled. Seeing Cynthia's confused look, she gestured behind her. "Look there." The blond turned around to see a brown blur dashing towards her. She instinctively raised her arms, catching the Eevee.
"She was waiting for you to walk down." Nurse Joy giggled. "She's really excited to go with you." Cynthia looked at the Evolution Pokémon in joy.
"You want to?" Eevee nodded. "Yes! Welcome to the team girl!" Eevee jumped back, landing on the floor. Cynthia dropped on her knees and produced an unoccupied pokéball. Eevee tapped it calmly, getting sucked in.
The ball dinged immediately, signifying Cynthia's 14th capture. "Congratulations Cynthia Carolina." Nurse Joy commented. Cynthia got up, a broad smile splitting her cheeks.
"Thanks a lot!" Cynthia hugged Nurse Joy tightly. "You're the best!"
"I didn't do anything." Cynthia didn't care, continuing to hug her before separating. "Now go. Fuchsia is still far away!"
"Will do!" Cynthia walked out of the Pokémon Center, eager to put the Damien fiasco behind her and approach the future. 'Off to a great day!' She thought happily.
Little did she know, however, that someone was plotting her demise all the while.

It was around night time when our duo Ash and Leaf decided to call it a day. "It was really fun." Ash commented as they slowly approached the center.
"Yeah, reminds me of the fair we used to have at Pallet Town." Leaf replied, idly playing with her hair. "Remember the fight we had with the kids from Viridian?"
"We were so childish then." Ash chuckled.
"We still are." Leaf retorted giggling. "Wonder how Gary and Cynthia are doing."
"Cynthia has gotten a load of new Pokémon." Ash mentioned. "She has about… 14? Around that amount of Pokémon."
"Where did she get so many Pokémon?" Leaf asked in surprise. "The last time we met she had five." Ash told her about the incident with Damien. "The Pallet Crew doesn't really like to stay safe huh."
"That's my influence for sure." Ash chuckled. Ash looked at the lit town and couldn't help the smile on his face. "This very sight makes me feel like it's worth it."
"The statue and recognition or a happy town?" Leaf joked.
"Little of A little of B." Ash chuckled. "Who doesn't like praise?" Leaf grinned.
"So, you're challenging Anpu to a Gym Battle?" She questioned. Ash nodded. "You are strong but don't get overconfident. Anpu knows a lot about Ghosts."
"I'll prepare properly." Ash replied. "I'm calling Zeus and Oceanus back tomorrow. But I'll have to send Charmander and Mystic to Professor Oak temporarily." Ash frowned in thought. "What about you?"
"I'm not in the mood for battles right now." Leaf replied. "Maybe sometime in the future."
"No problem." Ash grinned. He saw his shadow move a bit weirdly. "Hey Haunter." The Gas Pokémon formed up. He held one of his ghostly hands out. "What do you have?" Ash asked curiously.
"Is that the…" Leaf widened her eyes.
"The bracelet you gifted me?" Ash picked it up and examined it. It was in perfect shape, if a bit scratched. "Yup. Where did you find it?" Haunter gestured to the tower and managed to explain how he had found some ghosts fooling around with it.
"Thanks a lot for finding it Haunter." Ash thanked him. "It means a lot to me." Ash offered it to Leaf. "Put this on my wrist will you?" Leaf picked it up.
"Why wouldn't I?" She put it on Ash's right wrist, where it rightfully belonged.
"Feels good to have it back." Ash commented, rolling it around. Leaf smiled, feeling her cheeks heat up a bit. "I really need to get you something too."
"Well, my birthday isn't that far off." She giggled. Haunter did a joyful loop in the air. "You're one sweet ghost Haunter." The Gas Pokémon smiled bashfully. He then gestured to Ash's waist. Ash understood what he was hinting at.
"Want to join us officially?" Ash asked Haunter. The Ghost Type nodded happily.
"You're making a great choice choosing him as your trainer." Leaf smiled. "He'll give his life for you."
"You're spoiling me." Ash pulled out his last Dusk Ball. "This pokéball is specially made for Pokémon dwelling in dark places. You'll be at home in it." Haunter tapped the brown button the greenish pokéball, sucked inside.
The ball dinged immediately, marking Haunter as Ash's Pokémon. Ash saw the pokéball get locked and pocketed it. "Congratulations Future Pokémon Master." Leaf commented.
"Thank you." Ash looked at the path leading to Route 12. "There's supposed to be water a little down there. Want to check it out?"
"I don't know, it's pretty late and we don't have our Pokémon with us either." Leaf mumbled.
"We'll check it out tomorrow." Ash suggested. Leaf nodded. "The Pokémon center is only a few minutes away. Our Pokémon must've returned there too."
"The Festival is here for an entire week, right?" Ash nodded. "Okay then! We have a lot of things to explore. Especially that famous restaurant!"
"Some things never change." Ash chuckled. "We'll head there tomorrow. Any other places in your mind?"
"We'll discuss them tomorrow." Leaf yawned. "I'm all for rest now." Ash saw the glowing roof of the Pokémon Center. "Race you there nerd!" Leaf took off.
"Hey, that's cheating!" Ash called off, running after her. Despite having heels, Leaf was quite fast and reached the center before Ash.
"Slowpoke!" She giggled.
"Cheater." Ash scoffed.

The next morning…
"I'm here to meet May Maple." Ash spoke up to the doctor. "My name is Ash Ketchum. She said she wanted to meet me."
"Yes, she's actually waiting for you." The Doctor led him to a Private room and left. Ash closed his eyes, taking a deep breath. He didn't want to think about the condition May would be.
From the death of Leaf's Butterfree to Mystic's current condition, Ash wasn't sure he could handle any more of Spiritomb's long term effect.
Ash entered inside, feeling a pang of sadness hit him at the condition of the brunette. She was far from the strong May he had met in Viridian Forest. He had no doubt it'll take a lot of time for her to completely heal up.
"Hey May," Ash spoke up softly, walking over to his mentor. May gave him a soft smile, looking over his appearance. "How're you feeling?"
"Better, thanks to you." She whispered. "But you shouldn't have entered Lavender Tower Ash. I thought I made that clear in Mt. Moon that you would walk the opposite direction whenever you see trouble." She chided.
"I was about to." Ash replied. "But Nurse Joy told me that Leaf, my childhood friend, is also in the tower and I couldn't leave her alone!" May sighed.
"How are you and your team?" She asked. "How's Anpu and Leaf?"
"Mystic has heavy PTSD." Ash began. "Mystic is my Eevee who has evolved into an Espeon." He clarified. "My other team is exhausted and hurt but nothing out of the ordinary."
"What about them?" May questioned, referring to his companions.
"Anpu is better than before actually." The League trainer blinked. "Before, he was berated for putting Leaf in trouble but now he's being showered with praises for saving Lavender Town by assisting me and all. He may be suffering some after effects though."
"Leaf…" Ash sighed. "She's been in the Lavender Tower for a lot of time. She'll be fine given some time but right now she's fragile and paranoid." Ash chewed his lower lip. "She has seen things because of that damned Misdreavus." He turned to May. "She has seen her torturing you."
"That wasn't pretty." May winced. "The Doctor said I'll be fine within a few weeks. Some internal injuries and…" She closed her eyes, gathering herself.
"May, are you okay?" Ash asked softly.
"I'm fine." She managed a smile. "I'm going to be transferred to the League Hospital. They have better care over there."
"What are you hiding May?" Ash asked her, knowing that look. Leaf had given him the same when she tried to lie about her PTSD.
"That darn Misdreavus has damaged my spine among other things." Ash saw the raw sorrow and fear on May's face, something he wasn't used to. "They say I might not be able to walk anymore." Tears filled her sapphire eyes and a few even dripped down.
"May…" Ash mumbled. "I'm so sorry." Ash sat down next to her, pulling her in for a gentle hug. May sobbed in his shoulder, Ash making sure not to irritate her injuries. He rubbed her back soothingly and carefully.
"It's okay." May said, pulling back after a few minutes. "I'm pretty sure the League's Doctors can fix me up." Ash smiled and decided to change the topics.
"Moving on from this gloomy topic," Ash cleared his throat. "Let me tell you all about what happened after we split."
They chatted for hours after that, Ash enjoying May's company immensely and appreciating her experienced thoughts and inputs.
"You two have a knack for getting in trouble." May commented when Ash finished telling her the Hidden Village incident. "So you and Cynthia split up from there?"
"It was Sophie's decision and Mom had to agree." Ash sighed. "She said she couldn't risk someone else's daughter for my safety. The only person to feel satisfied by that is Cynthia's Mom."
"I can understand." May spoke up. "My parents are going to kill me when they get to know this incident." She shuddered. "I fear them more than the Tower."
"I can relate." Ash replied. "My Mom chewed me out for putting Cynthia in trouble. Even though it was her decision, not mine."
"You took the blame." May pointed out. "Willingly."
…
"Viper really has changed from what you described." May commented as he elaborated their first meeting.
"She was always like this from the inside." Ash added. "She just didn't show it."
"Some Pokémon are like that. My Ninetails didn't trust me when she was a little Vulpix." The brunette smiled. "Took me a while to earn her trust."
…
"If I could, I would slap you really hard." May growled when Ash sheepishly told her about the injuries he suffered in Rock Tunnel.
"I didn't attack the Rhydon!" Ash protested. "He himself attacked me and my team. Simply because we trespassed in his territory."
"Why the hell did you decide to suddenly go into Rock Tunnel? You could've trained on the routes and postpone it for later." May chided. "Rock Tunnel has a high casualty rate. Did you want to join it?"
"I nearly did." Ash joked but shut up at her look.
…
"I'll love to see your Charmander. He sounds really adorable!" May exclaimed, coughing right afterwards.
"He's with Nurse Joy right now." Ash said apologetically. "But I'll show him to you when I get the chance." May nodded.
"That's what we could do anyway."
…
"And here I thought you were like this after turning ten." May shook her head as Ash told her about his and Cynthia's first meeting with Eevee.
"I couldn't leave-" Ash protested.
"Leave her alone and blah blah blah." May interrupted. "You have a death wish Ketchum. I'll be really surprised if you get past your first year."
"Gee, thanks for the vote of confidence." Ash pouted jokingly making her tough façade break. "I try to stay out of it but it just… follows me." He ended lamely.
…
"I'm going to have a full battle with Anpu soon." Ash continued. "Six on six. My first battle. Any tips?"
"Six on six battles can be tiring and long drawn," May spoke from experience. "Try to think about the long term results. The score can be 4-2 and you can still lose. It's really more about strategy, instincts, mind games, and training."
"Seem tough." Ash commented.
"You'll learn with time." May responded. "Don't worry."
"Will you watch my battle tomorrow?" Ash asked hopefully. She smiled.
"I may not be able to watch it live because of…" She gestured to her injuries. "But I'll watch the recording for sure."
"The Gym's official recordings, right?" She nodded. "Do call me when you do and give feedback."
"You'll do fine. Just relax."
…
"So Ash," May grinned mischievously. Ash began to fear what she was planning. Such looks never meant good. "What's up with you and Cynthia?"
"What do you mean by that?" Ash questioned, having recently told her about all the adventures he had with her, before and after beginning their journey.
"What do you think of her?" May asked, winking suggestively. Ash felt his cheeks heat up.
"She's a good friend, a good person." Ash told her warily.
"And?" May pressed.
"She's knowledgeable too. Even more than me." He admitted. "She has a nice accent too." He added, trying to force the blush on his face down. May let out a 'oh' at that.
"So you like Sinnovan accents huh." Ash shrugged. "C'mon Ash, spill the beans already."
"I've only met her from Sinnoh." Ash defended. "And the only other person who I met from that region is Paul who I didn't spend much time with. He's really strong-"
"Oh don't you change the topic now." May cut in. "What else do you like about Cynthia Ash?" Ash began to blush. "Ash has a crush eh."
"I don't!" He protested weakly. "I like Cynthia, okay? She's good looking, knowledgeable and-" He rambled.
"You find her pretty?" May cut in.
"Nooo." Ash looked away. May grinned.
"You just said that. You said she was good looking." She pointed out.
"When did I say that?" Ash defended. "I just said she was good looking, I didn't say she was pretty."
"A good looking girl means she's pretty you idiot." She pressed on.
"A good looking girl can also be cute!" Ash retaliated, cheeks burning.
"So you find Cynthia cute!" May cut in, the look on her face making Ash blush madly? "Just admit it Ash! You're trapped."
"Alright, alright." Ash relented. "I find Cynthia cute." May giggled at Ash. "Don't tell her though." He warned seriously.
"Don't worry. Your secret is safe with me." She controlled her laughter. "Seriously though, you have a crush on her?"
"I like her. Doesn't mean I have a crush on her." Ash defended. "I like you too. That doesn't mean I have crush on you."
"There are different types of liking." May began. "You'll understand when you grow up." Ash shrugged. "What about Cynthia? You think she likes you too?"
"That's something only she can tell." He replied. "What do you think?"
"I'll let your crush answer that." She teased. "What about Leaf? You like her too?"
"She's a really good friend of mine." Ash spoke up. "She really understands me." He added.
"Sounds like you two are pretty close."
"I don't like her." Ash added bluntly. "I mean, like in the sense I like Cynthia- oh Mew!" Ash covered his face with his hands.
"You should not have said that." May grinned at his look.
"Please don't get started." He begged.
"So you do understand the types of liking huh?" May questioned.
"I may know the gist of it." Ash replied quietly. The brunette smiled at that.
"I'll stop now." She giggled. "Let me tell you what I've done since we have split."
…
"Lt. Surge is really strong." She added. "Though Sabrina is much harder to defeat. She has such a great understanding with her Pokémon that their synergy is undefeatable."
"I'm planning to challenge Sabrina soon." Ash told her. "Do you think I'm ready?"
"What do you think?" She questioned. "Do you think you can challenge her and possibly leave with the Marsh Badge?"
"…I don't know." Ash answered.
"Trust your Pokémon and trust yourself Ash." May mentored. "Do that and you can stand up to anyone. Sabrina included."
"You think so?" Ash questioned.
"Take the Lavender Town incident as an example." She pointed out. "You won because you had trust in each other. Spiritomb is nigh unstoppable. Yet you, three rookies, managed to stop him, something I was unable to do even with my vast experience."
"Cause of trust." Ash realized. May smiled at her tutee finally getting it. "I've been dying to ask. How many badges do you have?"
"Six." May replied. "Cinnabar and Viridian remain only." Ash was flabbergasted at that.
"Six already?!" She nodded smugly. "I only have two right now." He lamented.
"You spent a lot of time in Rock Tunnel." She pointed out. "If you hadn't, you could have possibly four or five."
"Maybe."
…
"How did you become a League Trainer May?" Ash questioned. "Did you hide that when you were in Viridian Forest?" She shook her head.
"I got hired after we split at Cerulean City." She answered. "I got contacted by the League and well, it was a good opportunity."
"It's not safe though." Ash commented, not having to explain what he was referring to.
"Nor is being a trainer." She answered. "Yet we are trainers. The Daring Youth of today." She chuckled.
"Imagine getting paid for things I do normally," Ash laughed.
"Why imagine?" May asked a sly smirk on her face. "You can become a League Trainer later on in your life too. All you need is the recommendation of an experienced League Trainer. By the time you do agree on being a League Trainer, you know who to contact."
"You'll do that for me?" Ash asked in surprise.
"Why wouldn't I?" She smiled. "You've earned my recommendation."
"Wow." Ash blinked, understanding what she meant. "Thanks a lot."
…
"Before Spiritomb was properly woken up," Ash began. "A lady with an 'R' on her chest sacrificed herself. If I remember correctly, the strange people we encountered in Mt. Moon had the same symbol on his chest."
"It belongs to Team Rocket." May sighed. "I cannot tell you anything about them except one thing. They are bad news. You see them, you run the other way."
"Okay-"
"Get this through that thick skull of yours that you won't mingle in the matters to Team Rocket." She interrupted. "They don't hesitate in anything. No matter what happens, don't you dare to interfere."
"…okay." Ash relented.
"If you see anything, you will contact me directly." May continued. "If I think you're capable of accompanying me, you can." Ash looked at her in surprise. "I was also a hasty trainer like you. I had the luck to survive. I'm not telling you to completely ignore whatever atrocities they commit, I'm asking you to contact me first and then think of taking action. Kay?"
"Sure thing sir." Ash mock saluted. May chuckled.
…
"Mr. Ash," The Kantonian turned around, seeing a Nurse standing there. "We suggest you let Ms. Maple rest now." Ash gave her a sheepish look.
"Sorry, guess I got carried away." He turned to May who nodded at him. "I'll come by later May. Kay?" She shook her head.
"I'll be transferred to the League Hospital by tomorrow morning." Ash sighed sadly. "Hey, don't give me that look. We'll meet later on." Ash brightened up.
"Okay then." He got up. "Safe travels May." He gave her a gentle hug.
"Try not to die." She whispered in his ear. Ash pulled back, cracking a smile at her joking look.
"Okay League Trainer." Ash turned around, leaving the room. May saw him walk away and yawned. The Nurse came over and handed over her medicine, one which she took and went back to sleep.
Ash left the Lavender Hospital, feeling light as if a burden had been lifted off his shoulder. Sure, May was hurt and possibly paralyzed for the rest of her life, Mew forbid, but a simple talk with her was enough.
Both of them needed it.

Response to Reviews:
Vital Info: I didn't quite receive the Pokémon you suggested or I would've considered them too. Every trainer will mature overtime; I can't make it happen overnight. Character Development takes it time. And yeah, Damien doesn't need Pokémon to extract his revenge…
I am Vegito: No problem.
Mark Andrew: Cynthia was demoted to Aunt in the previous chapter and I haven't yet decided what Pokémon Ash will receive. We'll see about that. About Damien, I have plans.
UltimateCCC: They could.
litoriashivam12: Not currently, but surely in the future!
