IX. I Promise It's Safe

A/N: So it's been quite a while since I've written for Gaara. Partly because I've been on an HxH high, and also due to personal struggles. Lately I've been trying to embrace my creative side more; trying to stop attempting to cage my imagination and trying to write more fanfics. It's a side of me that honestly I've always viewed as shameful and frivolous, and my new faith mentor is helping me through that. God gave me the gifts and passion for creativity, and He's the ultimate Creator, and I'm made in His image, so I shouldn't feel ashamed. I'm still struggling big time but I'm trying to slowly get back into it.

Anyways, thanks for coming to my TED talk and enjoy this sappy drabble.

It had been about a year since the end of the 4th shinobi war. Since then, Gaara and Harley had wasted no time in their efforts to better the village.

Several new buildings were built and there were lots of construction projects. And they were all high quality. Harley had organized countless fundraising events for these projects, which went surprisingly well. Her sister Hayley also helped a good deal. She lived a simple life and had no desire for riches, and was always eager to give sizable donations to good causes. Suna's reformation was one of them.

Suna's local music club, which Harley had joined a while back, hosted ongoing fundraiser events. Tonight would be one of their benefit concerts held at one of the newly built churches.

Everyone in that club was insanely talented. And since there wasn't a whole lot of entertainment at that time in the village, their concerts always drew quite an audience.

Gaara attended whenever he could, which wasn't often due to his workload. But he sat in the audience that night, guarded by security (which was hardly necessary these days, but best to be on the safe side). Harley was one of the last to perform, alongside her good friend Sari. They did a couple covers, and then wrapped up with a song that Harley stated she wrote; one of her first original pieces.

Gaara remembered her telling him about it, but he hadn't heard it yet. And his heart began to melt as he listened. It was written for him.

Let me show you how…

How to love

I promise it's safe

There is no one else...

With a heart like yours

Don't throw that away

Keep it safe

~.~

The security guards took note of the tears in Gaara's eyes but he didn't care. He had never felt more treasured by anyone else on earth.

A/N: The song is directly referencing "Safe" by Stevie Mosley and I don't take credit for it.
