"it is not a place for a woman to wander by herself while the moon has steered past its zenith."
"why speak of such troubles? can't you see that i'm here to quiet the storms plaguing the heavens?"
silence. a clap. a laugh.
"the moon is past its zenith, indeed," the woman said, descending the hill where she gazed upon the sky just a moment ago. "i'm sure we're not the only ones outside, reenacting that scene from that play again."
"we're the only ones here without any light in our hands." he caught her hand as she landed, pulling her waist to his embrace. grasses swayed around them, their blades weighed by their presences.
"aren't they amazing, madara?" she asked, staring straight at him as their heights differed only a little. her dark irises reflected the scattered stars above. "we only taught them how to make simple tools and shelters... now they create worlds out of their imagination. it's barely past a whole day!"
"a whole day you spent above took immeasurable years underneath, hashirama. you missed so much."
"aw. i missed you too."
"that's not my point, but thank you." madara closed his eyes, sighing. "don't leave for too long, or you'll miss even more things."
"i won't be." she held his arms. "such amazing creatures, these humans..." her smile faded. "i wonder why we're forbidden to bring them down here, in a limitless realm, when they're clearly too small for the heavens..."
underneath his mortal raiment, madara's eyes glinted red. "careful of what you whisper."
hashirama groaned, leaning her head on his shoulder.
"they won't like what you did."
"what we did."
silence reigned again as they watched the horizon set alight in purple hues, then blue, then red and orange before it revealed its clear cerulean. crowing roosters and chirping birds had heralded the arrival of a new day underneath.
"fix your raiment. people would wonder why you didn't freeze last night."
hashirama let out a laugh as they walked towards a nearby settlement. her fingers danced behind her long hair, weaving a shawl in a matching color with madara's out of nothingness. it wrapped itself around her shoulders, and she beamed.
"let's go get some mortal breakfast, madara."
