the spread before him was... unexpected.
sure they had been stargazing on the rooftop before, but today hashirama had prepared a basket of food; must be their entire dinner, a bottle of sake and their telescope.
madara grinned. "you're going all out."
"it's once in a blue moon! well, literally," hashirama said, taking out lunchboxes from the basket: yakisoba and macaroons. she was giddy, she's always like this when she... had a surprise for him.
madara only hoped this wouldn't be like that time when he thought she'd show off her new lingerie but she boo'd him with t-rex costume instead. he hadn't fully recovered from that.
as they ate and used the telescope in turns, madara realized she glanced at him way too often. now this is weird. she only behaved like this when she had done something wrong.
guilty and giddy? weird combination.
it was hashirama who snapped first. "ohh fine!" she threw her arms in the air. "i can't hold it anymore! not if you keep looking at me like that!"
"...i'm not making faces at you, you know."
madara's reply went ignored. hashirama fished her phone, fiddled it a little, then gave it to him. on its screen was a colorful announcement from a game.
he set down his yakisoba box. "...you're not playing online gamble, do you?"
she fervently shook her head. "no! this is an rpg, though it does have a gambling-like features..."
madara narrowed his eyes. "we had this talk."
"i know, i know! so please please hear me out first. i'm sorry i didn't tell you when i started playing..." she explained the game mechanics. apparently there was an option to buy in-game currency which players could use to purchase random units. "but many players play it for free! we save up money from in-game missions! you can track my spending, so you'll know that i spent zero for the game... now that i have enough to roll..." she glanced skywards, then back to him.
he sipped his sake. "do you want me to roll it?"
"yes!"
"but why?"
"ah, that..." hashirama glanced down, blushing. "many people tried to wait until a big astronomical event happening to roll, or have their loved one click the roll. they said both methods work well..."
"you're combining both." he straightened his back, recalling their daily lives in the past months. hashirama had racked a lot in-game items, amazingly he never noticed she was grinding a game when they were together in the same room.
the golden r-o-l-l button shone on the phone screen.
"also! i also understand if you're angry and want me to stop...!"
"i haven't said anything." madara clicked the button. a short music played as the screen turned golden. "like this?"
hashirama perked up at that. "don't tell me... ah! you really got the unit i want! at first try! aaah..." her mouth was wide awake, her eyes looking back and forth between the device and madara. "your hand is fragrant!"
madara nearly spluttered his drink.
she insisted on him rolling until she used up all her currency. he didn't even know what sort of units he rolled. all he knew was everytime she saw his roll results, she immediately shrieked in delight, smiling as wide as the heavens itself.
"by the way," madara said, as they're climbing onto their bed an hour later, "what sort of units you play there?"
hashirama grinned. "this is the only one i want!" on her phone screen was a scowling man in red armor holding massive weapons. "don't you think this grumpy warlord looked just like you?"
"disappointing. i'm not that grumpy," he said, unimpressed. "but i'll be more disappointed if you don't strengthen him properly and assign him to high tier missions."
her eyes sparkled. "oh i will! i definitely will do!"
