Head Duties and a Sorting Hat

At 10:25am, Pandora made her way towards the Head's carriage, she still had 5 minutes before the meeting started, but she was always punctual. She didn't realise until she got to the carriage, that Draco had followed her. When she turned around to ask why he had, she noticed the Head Boy badge pin on his chest. 'Well that certainly answers that question' she thought. They both sat down in silence and waited for McGonagall to arrive. Two minutes later and the deputy Headmistress popped into the carriage.

"Ah, I see you're both here. Good. Here is a list of your duties, as well as a list of the balls that you'll be organising this year. You also need to work out a schedule of patrols for the prefects, they'll be joining you in two minutes. Once the feast is over, both of you stay behind and Headmaster Snape will show you to your new living quarters, also there are seats for you both on the staff table. You only have to sit at them during the evening meal, other meals you can sit with your friends. Pandora, you'll still get to the school via carriage, however you'll need to wait in the entrance hall with me for the first years so you can be resorted. I'll see you at dinner." And with that she disappeared again.

Not five minutes later, the Prefects walked in. It appeared to be one 5th year and one 6th year from each house:

From Gryffindor there was Ginny Weasley (6th) and Romilda Vane (5th) From Ravenclaw there was Luna Lovegood (6th) and Morag MacDougal (5th) From Slytherin there was Finn Harper (6th) and Astoria Greengrass (5th) And from Hufflepuff there was Zacharias Smith (6th) and Ernie Macmillan (5th)

Once the schedule had been drawn up, and a few notes about the several balls that were to be organised, had been made, everyone went back to their original carriages with their friends. Draco sent his Patronus down to their friends' carriage, to tell them to join him and Pandora in the Heads carriage, now that it was free. No point in wasting all the empty space.

Once the Slytherins had joined Pandora and Draco, they all settled down to games of Exploding snap, wizard's chess and daring each other to eat Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans. The journey to Hogsmeade was relaxed and enjoyable. Pandora's discomfort and concern didn't start until they were sat in the Head's carriage in Hogsmeade. 'What if the Sorting Hat decided she should stay in Gryffindor? What if it chose Ravenclaw instead?' She started to panic as all the thoughts swirled around in her head, until Draco gently rested his hand on hers and she immediately felt at ease and relaxed. She gently encouraged Enuva to slide up the inside of her sleeves so as to remain incognito during the feast.

After she stepped from the Head's carriage, she spotted McGonagall loitering by the entrance to the castle, clearly waiting for her. Her new friends said a quick 'bye and good luck', before leaving her to wander over to the Deputy Head.

"Right Miss Dagworth, if you'll follow me, we have to meet the first years at the top of the stairs that lead down to the Lake. You'll have to wait with them a minute whilst I tell Severus that we're all ready." By the time she'd finished explaining, they'd reached the top of the steps, and just had to await the first years. Once they arrived, and McGonagall had given the usual speech about houses and points, she wandered off and left Pandora to watch over them. One particularly plucky young boy noticed the Head Girl badge on Pandora's robes.

"So, you're head girl? I see they let any old riffraff help run the school then! It should be a pure blood. And I've never seen you around so I know you're not a pureblood! It should be a Slytherin like I'm going to be."

"Why you insolent little brat. You'd better learn to respect your elders, and those who are more important than you! I'll have you know that I'm Pandora Dagworth!" At the mention of her last name the rude boy audibly gulped. "And I'm a member of the purest pureblood family there is. So, learn to keep your moronic mouth shut!" Her eyes flashed dangerously, and all the first years stepped back. Clearly the Head Girl wasn't to be messed with. Seconds later, McGonagall reappeared.

"Right, Pandora, first years, follow me." McGonagall lead them into the great hall, the place erupted in whispers as everyone spotted the beautiful woman walking with the Deputy Head. Then they noticed the Head Girl badge and the whispers grew even louder.

"Right, when your name is called, you will come and sit upon the stool, I will place the Sorting Hat on your head and you will be sorted into your house. But first we'll let him sing his song.

For the next 3 minutes, Pandora had to wait nervously whilst the Hat sang the most ridiculous song. Finally, it decided to shut up, and McGonagall cleared her throat loudly, silencing the room again.

"Now as I'm sure you've all noticed, it's not just the first years getting resorted. This is Pandora Dagworth, originally known as Hermione Granger. She recently found out that she wasn't who she was brought up as, and has therefore asked to be resorted. Now Pandora will you come up please."

Pandora sat gracefully down onto the stool and the Sorting Hat was placed on her head.

'Not Gryffindor, I don't belong there, I belong in Slytherin like the rest of my family!' She thought, knowing the hat could hear her.

'Not Gryffindor eh? Well I can see you are of purest blood, and you're cunning beyond that of Tom Riddle himself. Why yes I see no reason why you shouldn't be in;'

"SLYTHERIN!"

Pandora hopped off the stool and glided over to where her new friends were sitting at the Slytherin table. The room erupted into loud jeering and hisses, as everyone watched the Gryffindor Princess convert to the House of Snakes. The Slytherin table however, cheered far louder than the other three houses put together. They welcomed their Dark Lady with open arms and enormous grins. The noise died down quickly when she sat down on the bench next to Draco.

"Welcome home My Lady" He whispered to her in a respectful manner.

The sorting continued with all the new first years, bizarrely it was Slytherin that gained the most students. They all seemed enamoured with the Head Girl, and the rude boy looked positively apologetic.

"Now, before the feast starts, there are a few notices that need to be addressed. Needless to say, the Forbidden Forest is just that; Forbidden. I have also made a few changes to the staff this year. Hagrid has stepped down from his position as Professor for Care of Magical Creatures, following the death of Albus. Therefore, I have brought back Professor Wilhelmina Grubbly-Plank to teach that position again. Professor Binns has been replaced, in an effort to actually produce decent grades in the History of Magic exams. His replacement will be joining us tomorrow, once they've got back to England. As I am now Headmaster, I am also retiring my role as Slytherin Head of House. Therefore, Professor Narcissa Malfoy will be taking my place as Head of Slytherin and also the position of Potions Professor. I know some will wonder why it is not Horace Slughorn; unfortunately, his incompetence at teaching the subject properly, which was evident in everyone's grades last year, resulted in his resignation too. Professor Malfoy is a Potions Master, and therefore the right person for the job."

"There is also the position of Defence Against the Dark Arts professor that is left open, as I am not returning to the position. That will be taught by Professor Riley Hawke, a well-known friend, who I can assure you will teach far better than all of the previous professors in that position put together! You will actually learn how to defend the dark arts, however to defend properly you have to know the Dark Arts. Now before you all start panicking, I am NOT having you taught the Dark Arts, you just need to know a bit more about them to be able to defend them properly."

"Now enough chatter, let the feast begin!" With a quick clap of his hands, the tables were filled with platters of delectable foods. He quickly sat down and started a conversation with Narcissa who was sat on his right.

"Draco, I didn't know your mother was the new potions professor!?" Pansy squawked in a slightly undignified way.

"In all honesty, neither did I, my parents certainly kept that quiet!" Draco grimaced.

Over the next hour and a half, small chatter was made all over the hall until dessert was finished and Snape stood up again.

"Now before we all head off to bed, could I ask that the Head Boy and Head Girl come and join me up here and announce yourselves?" With a quick nod to Snape, Draco and Pandora gracefully stepped up from the bench and glided over to the front of the Head table.

"I'm Pandora Dagworth, Head Girl."

"And I'm Draco Malfoy, Head Boy. Should any student ever need any help or require assistance, they should either ask, Pandora and I, or the prefects."

"Could the prefects from each house come and join us up here please?" Pandora added.

One by one, the prefects reached where Pandora and Draco were standing and introduced themselves to the students, before sitting back down at their respective tables.

"Perfect, thank you, now just to inform you, there is a slight change to the way the Head's live in Hogwarts, for a start they will eat their evening meals up here sat on either side of me, for the other meals they will sit at their house table. They also now have their own private Quarters. So, don't fear if you can't find them, only they, the professors and myself know where their quarters are. Although they may divulge that information with their friends should they wish. Now, prefects if you could lead the first years to your common rooms, and inform them of the password. Goodnight!" Snape finished.

Snape signalled Pandora and Draco to follow him, and they went through a door behind the Head table. After a five-minute walk they found themselves on the third-floor corridor that had been restricted in their 1st year. It was unusually decorated in greens and silvers. They reached an enormous painting of the four founders, standing beside one another. Although as they approached, Salazar Slytherin took a step forward.

"Ah two students of my own house. I'm glad to see you're both of pure blood. Ah! And one of my descendants no less! It's a pleasure to meet you both! Now you shall choose a password!" He beamed down at the two students and awaited their decision.

"How about...'Ex puro sanguine'?" Pandora offered, thinking of the Dagworth Family Motto

"'Of pure blood' I like it!" Draco nodded, then smiled up at Salazar.

"Fantastic, welcome my dears!" Salazar responded as he swung the painting open for them to enter.

Both students stood still in shock and amazement. The room they appeared in wouldn't have been out or place at Malfoy Manor or the Dagworth Estate. It was a circular room the size of a large house, with a high ceiling to match. On one section of the wall was a stunning fireplace, with a portrait of Salazar above it. There were two green velvet and mahogany armchairs, and two loveseats to match. A stunning black glass coffee table sat in the middle of the furniture. There was a large Grande piano, and an acoustic guitar in another area of the room. There were six doors coming off the common room in equal intervals. The closest on the right led into a spacious kitchen with a small table to eat at. The one next to it led to a large bathroom with a separate bath and shower cubicle. The next led off to Draco's room, which had an en-suite bathroom. The next room was also circular although much smaller, filled with beanbags and fluffy pillows, it appeared to be a den, for when they had friend over. The next was Pandora's room which also had an en-suite. The final room which was on the right from the portrait into the common room, actually led down a winding corridor. Although it was more like a spiralling slide, as they had to sit on it and slide down to reach the bottom. It led into an enormous private library, filled with books on every subject including the dark arts. There was also a small bathroom and kitchenette through doors off the side wall. There was one final door in the library, that you could walk straight through, although the door never opened. It led straight into the back of the standard school library.

Severus informed the two of them, that only they and he could walk through the door. Even the professors couldn't except Narcissa and Riley. This was because should they be caught reading about or practicing the dark arts, they'd be in a ridiculous amount of trouble. He led them back through the door and to the bottom of the slide.

"Now if you tap the slide with your wand twice, it turns into a spiral staircase, however the minute you step onto the bottom step, it apparates you to the top, so you don't have to climb a ridiculous number of stairs." He explained, after they proceeded to do so and appeared back in their common room, Severus informed them of one last thing. "Now, the den-like room is similar to the room of requirement, just smaller. However, you don't need to walk in front of it and think about what you want. Just place your hand on the door knob and think about what you want. The den-like room that you saw earlier was its default room, so that only you two know about it. It will only work for you two. Should anyone else try it, they will always get the default room." He bid the two students goodnight, and let them get settled in.

Because it was a Saturday, they could relax and enjoy their exploring. Their timetables would appear on the coffee table tomorrow morning, so they didn't have to worry about waking up early after exploring. Pandora wandered over to her room to start putting her things away, only to find that it had already been done. She had a cunning feeling that Leena was probably behind it. Afterall, the poor elf had nothing to do now that she was at school. She gently lowered her arm to the floor and allowed Enuva to slither out and over to her bed underneath Pandora's four poster double bed.

"Leena?" She called out softly, and she appeared with a rather apprehensive and nervous look on her face. "I don't suppose it was you who unpacked for me, is it?" She asked Leena with a smile.

"Y..yes mistress. I thought you might appreciate not having to worry about tidying it all away, after your exhausting day of travelling." She looked up with hopeful eyes at her Mistress, praying she'd done the right thing. The smile she received, immediately put her at ease.

"It's okay Leena, I appreciate that you did it for me, thank you very much. Now, given I know you'll be terribly bored at home without me there, would you consider staying here with me? If it would make you feel better you can stay down in the House Elves Quarters? That way you can help me whilst I'm here, if you'd like?" The look of surprise and adoration on Leena's face was enough of an answer for Pandora, and she smiled and bent down to play with Leena's ears.

"Now, you know the body-double mannequin I have in my walk-in wardrobe at home, could you bring it here for me? Then if you'd like, you can put my clothes for the next day on it, so I'm always organised?" Leena nodded in response and was gone with a soft pop. A minute later, she returned with the mannequin. She hovered it, over near the doors of the walk-in wardrobe, and sat it down gently.

"I informed Lady Dagworth of your idea, and she approved. So, I'm allowed to stay here with you. All you need do is call and I will come to you mistress, now I shall head down to the House Elves and let them know." With a quick bow, she popped off again.

Pandora decided to relax on her bed and peruse her textbooks for a little while, but was disturbed when she heard a soft tapping on her window. When she opened it up, she found Hedwig waiting with a letter on her leg. Ushering the owl in, it landed gently on her desk waiting for her to remove the envelope. She gently untied the letter and opened it up.

Pandora,

Hey! Is it okay if we still meet up tonight? If you tell me where your quarters are, I'll come knock on your door! Hope you're okay!

Love Gin

Slightly surprised by Ginny's willingness to keep talking to her, she scurried over to Draco's room and knocked politely. Draco opened the door in nothing but a pair of boxer shorts, which startled Pandora quite a bit.

"And to what do I own this honour my Lady?" Draco queried with a raised eyebrow.

"Ginny is coming over, I just thought I should inform you. We'll probably be either in my room or the den. Just so you know." Pandora retorted, before gliding back to her room. Draco watched her walk away, admiring how tight fitting her new robes were.

Back in her room, Pandora wrote a short response explaining where the head's quarters were, and to tell her she'd be waiting for her knock. Ten minutes later there was a sharp knock on the painting followed by a lot of commotion outside in the hallway. She quickly opened the door to reveal an empty hallway and a rather disgruntled Salazar.

"It's me, I'm under the cloak, as I didn't want to get caught." There came a whisper close to Pandora's ear making her jump in surprise.

"Okay, come in quick whilst I calm Salazar down." She felt Ginny move past her before the invisibility cloak was removed, and her red-headed friend appeared. "It's okay Salazar, my friend has an invisibility cloak, she had to be careful. She's a pureblood like me. So, she's welcome. Don't panic and go back to sleep." After her ancestor was calm again, she returned to the common room to find Ginny nervously perched on an armchair.

"Right, follow me Gin, Draco knows you're here so we won't be disturbed." She smiled at her friend who seemed petrified of her all of a sudden, and led her to the den. 'The standard den' she though as she held the door knob. Once the door was opened, it was indeed the standard den inside, and she led Ginny in. "Make yourself at home, would you like a cup of tea or anything?"

"Umm, sure? Earl Grey please?" Ginny responded.

"Leena?" Pandora called out softly. Which was received with a soft pop.

"Yes, Mistress, what do you need, ooh, Hello Mistress' friend!" Leena bowed to the two girls, excited to be of use already.

"Could you bring us a pot of Earl Grey, some cups and sugar please Leena, Oh, and two cheese scones and butter." Pan smiled at her beloved House Elf, as she popped away. Two minutes later and she returned with a try laden with their tea and scones. "Thank you, Leena, that should be all for this evening, I'll see you tomorrow morning, go get some sleep." With another small pop she was gone.

"Right, let's get you up to speed, shall we?"

Pandora spent the next 3 hours explaining all that her cousin had told her. She was more than surprised to find Ginny actually understanding her. She also found out that Charlie and Bill, Ginny's eldest brothers were disowned by the family for having Pureblood elitist views, and that they might be helpful to the cause. Ron was kept in the dark, due to the fact that he practically worshipped all his older brothers except Percy.

The night turned out to be incredibly interesting, and Pandora couldn't wait to inform her gang of friends the next morning at breakfast.
