Mount Justice, October 16, 3:01 PM
The team watched in tense silence as they watched a satellite feed of the large space ship that loomed over earth. Both Green Lanterns along with Batman in the Bat-ship in tow. The two Green Lanterns flew up to the ship. The team were all suited up, prepared for the worst.
"Do you think they'll be able to negotiate with them?" Artemis asked aloud.
"We can only hope." Hunter replied as Conner took his hand into his own.
The two Green Lanterns approached the ship, "Attention! You have entered the boundaries of Earth space. Disengage all weapons and engines." He ordered, "This is your final warning."
The ship replied by immediately firing an orange blast of energy. The two Green Lanterns immediately created protective spheres around themselves but the blast was too strong. The team watched as the two heroes disintegrated. Batman flew ahead as Superman, Martian Manhunter, Captain Marvel and Captain Atom flew out from the ship. The aliens then fired at the remaining heroes, easily wiping them out. It fired at Batman's spacecraft but the Dark Knight quickly ejected, barely dodging the blast. A smaller spaceship approached the escape pod and blasted him into nothing.
The cave was enveloped in silence as they received a transmission. Zatara's face appeared on screen, "Tornado, did you -"
"Yes, Zatara, we saw." The android replied, "Celestial defenses have failed. Initiate all terrestrial measures."
"Affirmative, see you in the field." Zatara replied before the transmission cut.
Red Tornado turned around to face the team, "I must join the League. We will protect the planet at all costs." He declared, "But should we fail, the responsibility falls to you."
"We stand ready." Kaldur said diligently.
They pulled up every available news feed from across the planet. The aliens attacked every major across the planet. The Justice League was being spread thin. They watched as the heroes fell one by one. Flash and Zatara died in an explosion at Central City, Green Arrow, Black Canary and the Hawks were blasted away at Taipei. Other heroes who weren't League members were eventually taken out as well. The third Green Lantern of earth was blasted out of the sky in New York City, Plastic Man was blasted away as he was helping civilians out of a burning building, Blue Devil was crushed by a falling building.
Eventually the last of the heroes, Wonder Woman and Red Tornado, were fighting off an invasion at Smallville.
"Wonder Woman above you!" Red Tornado exclaimed before Wonder Woman disintegrated, "Red Tornado to the cave. I fear that I am all that remains of the Justice League."
"RT!" Robin exclaimed before the android was destroyed.
"We are Earth's heroes now." Kaldur declared grimly.
"So what are we waiting for a theme song?" Superboy demanded.
"A strategy." He replied, "Earth's weapons are infective and it has been made tragically clear that a direct attack will not succeed."
"Checking satellite imagery." Robin quickly said as a holographic image of the earth appeared. The globe was littered with red dots, "Here's where the aliens are now."
"This one get lost?" Conner asked, pointing at a single red dot in the arctic circle.
"It's Superman's Fortress of Solitude!" Robin said in shock.
"What are they doing there?" Hunter asked.
"It's power source must have attracted the aliens' attention at least enough to send a scout ship to investigate." Robin replied.
"We must prepare." Kaldur stated, "We don't know if this is a trap or not."
"It's a risk we must take if it means finding a way to change the tide of this war." Hunter replied.
"Yeah, break it down, build more!" Wally said enthusiastically, "Hit those ugly aliens with their own mojo." Wally yelped when Artemis smacked his arm.
"Hello, Martian and Kryptonian present." She reprimanded.
The red head looked to see Conner and M'gann giving him pointed looks. The speedster quickly cleared his throat and replied, "Not that all aliens are automatically ugly."
Getting back to the mission Hunter said, "Once we've deduced a way to acquire a new weapon we'll need to plan a counter attack." The room fell in silence. Hunter turned to face everyone else, "Why are you looking at me?"
"You have the greatest military mind of all of us." Kaldur declared, "You've been groomed from birth to lead armies to victory. Once we've created a countermeasure against these invaders the position of leader should go to you."
Hunter looked to everyone else, "Do you all feel this way?"
"It's the most obvious course of action." Robin answered.
"We've all heard the stories about Wonder Woman fighting in World War 2." Wally said further, "Can't wait to see you kick butt at the head of an army."
"And we'll be right by your side when you do." Artemis stated, "Call us your commanders, lieutenants or. . .whatever."
Hunter gave them a grateful smile, "I'd be honored. But now we have to take that scout ship down."
The team quickly prepared for the mission. Artemis, Robin, and Wonder Warrior armed themselves to the teeth with their weapons. Kaldur split the team into two teams, Alpha and Omega. Team Alpha consisted of M'gann, Kid Flash, Aqualad and Artemis whilst team Omega's members were Superboy, Robin, Wonder Warrior and Rex. Alpha flew in the Bio-ship and Omega flew in the Invisible Jet.
Deep in the arctic floated one of the alien ships alone.
The team's plan is to be quick, precise and stealthy. Hunter, Robin and Superboy flew from above in the Invisible Jet. M'gann flew in camouflage towards the ship. Artemis and Wally maneuvered around to surround the ship. Kaldur swam beneath the ice cap. They surrounded the ship from all sides.
"Is everyone in position?" Kaldur asked through the mental link before getting confirmation from everyone, "Ok, M'gann, now!"
Flying towards the ship, M'gann raised her hand towards the ship before telekinetically ripping off the right prong of the ship, "Communications disabled." The ship began to lose control before it fell down on the ice, "Propulsion disabled."
From behind a chunk of ice Artemis fired an arrow at the cockpit of the ship. The arrow unleashed a cloud of foam. The foam hardened, sealing the aliens inside. The ship began to fire towards Artemis missing each time, "And E.T. 's are sealed inside."
The ice beneath the ship cracked open and Kaldur leaped out of the water and landed on the ship. The gun turned and aimed at the Atlantean before Rex pounced and forced the gun to point away from Aqualad. Robin and Superboy jumped out of the Invisible Jet and landed on the ship. Conner grabbed the gun and immobilized it.
Robin quickly scanned the ship and analyzed the gun's weak points, "Identifying the weapon's structural stress points and links to the ship." He stated before he pointed at the stem of the gun, "Here, here and here."
M'gann telekinetically broke the stem's weak points. Conner then began to detach the gun from the ship. Behind him a broken part began to spark to life. The weapon fired a stray blast at the clone but a shield flew across the air and knocked the clone off the ship. The blast hit the shield and destroyed it.
"That was a close one." Hunter said as he flew down and landed on the ship.
"There was no indication of feedback, I'm sorry." Robin apologized.
"It could've been worse." Superboy replied as he watched the Amazon take his previous place and rib the gun off the ship.
The Bio-ship landed next to them as M'gann and Hunter flew onto it. The Martian placed her hands on the ship before the ship began to fuse with the gun, "Rerouting the systems to integrate weapon into ship's bio-matrix. We'll need to de-camouflage for a few minutes." She said as the ship became fully visible.
"We may not have a few minutes!" Robin warned as two more ships arrived, flying over them.
"Conner, take the gun so I can take care of them!" Hunter quickly ordered before the Kryptonian landed on the ship next to him.
"Kick their asses." Conner gave him a smirk before he took the gun's weight from Hunter.
The Amazon took to the sky creating a cloud of snow from the force of his ascent. The two ships fired blasts of energy at the hero who maneuvered around the lasers. Flying between the ships he wrapped his lasso around the right ship's wing. He swung the ship around and into the second ship causing them both to explode.
"Done and done." Hunter said smugly before another laser blast flew past him. The prince quickly turned around to see a squadron of alien fighters.
"Wonder Warrior get down!" Kaldur ordered before he turned to M'gann, "Miss Martian is the gun ready?"
"Weapon successfully integrated." The Martian stated before the Bio-ship aimed for the fighters that were chasing Hunter down towards the ground, "Fire!"
The Bio-ship fired a barrage of blasts at the fighters, immediately shooting three down. With four fighters left Hunter drew his sword. Turning around he flew up back towards the ships. He cut through each ship as he flew past them, forcing them to lose balance and propulsion.
One of the ships spiraled out of control as it fell towards the team, "I got it!" Artemis fired an explosive arrow at the ship. The arrow hit its mark before erupting into a ball of fire, destroying the ship. The arrow didn't destroy the entire ship as the fiery wreckage continued down towards the archer.
"Artemis move!" Kaldur rushed across the ice cap and shoved Artemis out of the way.
The ship instead crashed onto Kaldur before erupting into a second explosion. The team watched in shock before M'gann screeched, "Kaldur!"
A consuming wave of shock hit Hunter as he watched the plume of smoke rise into the air. Landing on the ice, he quickly grabbed the wrecked ship and threw it aside before he gasped. Artemis moved to approach him but the Amazon quickly his his hand to stop her. He didn't want any of them to see what remained of Kaldur.
"Hunter is he. . ." Artemis couldn't finish the question as Hunter met her eyes before he gave her a solemn nod.
"I'm going to kill those aliens, every last one of them!" Wally declared, infuriated and mournful of his friend's demise.
The pregnant silence between them was accompanied by the howling of the arctic winds before M'gann asked through sobs, "Kaldur was our leader, what do we do now?"
Robin tried to think of something before he looked at Hunter who was already looking at him. They both knew what each other was wondering. Who's going to be the leader now?
"What we need to do now is continue the mission." Hunter finally said, "If we give up now Kaldur's sacrifice will be in vain."
"He's right." Robin replied before a hologram appeared from his wrist, "I've scanned the ship and the inner mechanisms. With a little help we'll be able to attach the guns onto human weapons."
"But it won't be easy." Wally said, "Even if we shoot a few down, hundreds more will show up."
"We need to show the world that there are still people willing to fight for them." Hunter said looking at the team, "We have to rally the world together."
Stationed at the Hall of Justice the US army kept their tanks and cannons pointed at the sky. General Eiling scanned the sky with his binoculars before he spotted a trio of ships heading their way.
"Open fire!" The general ordered.
Tanks, missiles and guns all fired towards the three ships. The alien fighters were agile, however, maneuvering around the oncoming fire. They fired down at the army forcing them to break formation and abandon their vehicles as they were destroyed.
Above the three alien ships two camouflaged aircrafts approached. The Bio-ship created a bay door where Superboy and Wonder Warrior dropped down from. Superboy landed on the ship on the right before taking it down with a series of powerful blows. Wonder Warrior cut the gun from the top of the ship before plunging his blade down into the ship and running down the back of the ship, carving it open before it exploded. The Bio-ship fired at the final ship, reducing it to nothing.
Superbot rode the falling ship down to the ground. It skidded down the road before stopping in front of the Hall of Justice where the army waited for them. The clone jumped off the ship and landed on the ground before Wonder Warrior descended from the air and landed next to him. The Bio-ship landed a short distance away before the team disembarked. The army cheered at the sight of three young heroes.
"See!" One of the soldiers exclaimed to his comrade, "It is Superman! I told you he wouldn't leave us alone."
"I don't know, he seems kind of young, and where's the cape?" The second soldier asked.
"I'm not Superman." Conner snapped.
"I don't know who you are, son, and right now I don't care." General Eiling declared, "You wear the S and got the job done."
"I'm not Superman." Conner said more softly, his gaze drifting off.
Wonder Warrior stepped forward, "Call him Superboy." He said before he took Conner's hand in his own, "I am Wonder Warrior of the Justice League, who's in charge here?" He asked.
The man quickly saluted, "General Wade Eilin, US Air Force."
Hunter nodded at the man in respect, "General, we've found out how to turn the aliens' cannons against them. We will aid you in salvaging them and teach you how to incorporate them into your own weapons." He explained, "Once we've done that we will mount a counter attack with the aid of the Amazons of Themyscira."
Under Wonder Warrior's leadership, Robin discussed with the general the machinations of the aliens' cannons and how to apply them to their own weaponry. Miss Martian and Wonder Warrior circled the perimeter with their ships to make sure they wouldn't be caught in a surprise attack. Superbot helped the soldiers by flipping over their vehicles back on their wheels. Artemis and Kid Flash aided in search and rescue, finding as many remaining civilians as they could.
In between shifts the team walked into the Hall of Justice. Wonder Warrior, Robin and Kid Flash could hardly recognize the ruin that was once a beacon of hope. The last time they were here they had Kaldur with them. The humongous statues of the founding members of the Justice League were nearly completely destroyed.
Hunter looked up at the statue of his mother. It was destroyed from the waist up. First his father abd now his mother, he's the only part of them left. He's their legacy but he would've preferred to have then safe and alive. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, he won't allow himself to cry. His mother died a noble death as a hero and he won't disgrace her memory by breaking down now.
While he was composing himself a large hand slipped into his own and interlocked with his fingers. Looking up he saw Conner's steel blue eyes. They exchanged a quiet look before the clone pulled him into a gentle embrace. Hunter rested his cheek against Conner's strong chest before he sighed.
"I'm sorry, I wish I knew how you're feeling so I could. . " Superboy quickly shut himself up, ". . .what I'm trying to say is 'I'm sorry'. I know you never wanted to lose her the way you lost your dad."
Silent tears finally broke free and streamed down his cheeks before he buried his face into Conner's face. Drying his tears in the black shirt he lifted his face up to look at the clone, "I'm sorry too. I know you and Superman were beginning to. . ." His voice drifted off before Conner shrugged.
"It was better than before." He looked up at the statue of the man of steel, "We talked for an hour over pie, well I had pie he wasn't allowed any."
"What did you talk about?" The prince asked.
"Doesn't matter now." Conner muttered.
Deciding not to push it, Hunter nodded before he asked, "Are Mr and Mrs. Kent?"
The taller boy nodded, "Yeah, I called and told them to take the Zeta-tube to the mountain. They actually got there right after we left."
"That's good at least." He gave Conner a pleasant smile before they simply returned to their embrace.
"Guys!" M'gann exclaimed, getting everyone on high alert.
The team all gathered towards Miss Martian before they were met with the sight of a miracle. Standing weakly in M'gann's embrace was Martian Manhunter. Without hesitation Wonder Warrior ensnared the supposed hero's wrist in his lasso.
"Are you the real Martian Manhunter?" He demanded before the lasso burned gold.
Compelled by the Lasso of Enticement he answered, "Yes, I am."
"We saw you disintegrate.'' Superboy stated as Wonder Warrior released the Martian from his lasso, "You and Superman. . .and everyone."
"Yes, I remember." He said weakly, "But I cannot remember how I survived or how I arrived here."
"Maybe you were density shifting and the beam passed right through you." M'gann suggested.
"Scrambling your brains along the way!" Robin added.
"My mind is clouded." J'onn replied, "I feel certain that I had something important to tell you."
"Hello Wally!" The speedster slapped his own forehead, "Come on!"
The others watched as Kid Flash, Robin and Artemis rushed out of the Hall of Justice. Superboy and Wonder Warrior stepped away from the two Martians to give them a moment alone. The two boys walked outside where Rex rested on a pile of rubble.
"It seems to good to be true doesn't it?" Conner sighed as he watched the smokey sky above.
"Martian Manhunter does have a variety of powers." Hunter replied placing a gentle hand on Rex's head, "My mother says his strength rivals her own as well as Superman's. Maybe M'gann is as strong as we are but chooses to spare our feelings." He said with a humorous smile.
"If Martian Manhunter survived do you think that they might be -" Conner closed his fists, his knuckles turning white.
"I don't know." Hunter replied stroking Rex's fur, "Right now we need to focus on -"
"I knew it, look!" Wally's voice rang through their heads, "It's giving off Zeta-beams! The same stuff that powers our Zeta-tubes this stuff doesn't disintegrate it teleports!"
"That means everyone's alive!" Artemis added.
"Maybe -" Robin tried to reply but Wally's excitedly interrupted him.
"No 'maybe' they're all alive!" Wally exclaimed.
"They must've been sent to some sort of holding facility." Hunter told before he heard something, "More ships incoming! Take cover!"
Just then an entire squadrons of ships came into view. They flooded the sky firing at the ground below. Wonder Warrior, Superboy and Rex dashed across the plaza narrowly avoiding the oncoming fire. They ducked behind a tank as the aliens continued their assault.
"We need to retreat, activate the Zeta-tube in the Hall. Robin, Kid Flash and Artemis will lead the retreat while Superboy and I take the Invisible Jet and head to Themyscira." Wonder Warrior peaked over the tank to see where he had cloaked the Invisible Jet, "Miss Martian take the Bio-ship and meet them at the mountain."
"Right, Uncle J'onn and I - Aahhgg!"
The team collectively felt a ripping pain in their heads. They all fell to the floor as they seethe in pain. It felt like a limb was being ripped from their body. What happened?
"They shot the Bio-ship!" Artemis exclaimed as she was the first one on her feet and aimed her bow at the oncoming attackers.
"Kid Flash, get to Miss Martian and Martian Manhunter and make sure they're ok!" Wonder Warrior ordered and the speedster nodded before he dashed into the Hall. The prince drew his sword before he looked to the Boy Wonder, "Robin fire up the Zeta-tube, the rest of us will cover the retreat!" Without a word Robin headed towards the hall.
Wonder Warrior took to the sky with a ground shaking take off. Sword in hand, he flew alongside the bullets, missiles, arrows and flying debris thrown by Superboy. He cut through any ship that came his way while he avoided any laser fire. One after another they ships fell from the sky but like a hydra when one falls two more takes its place. Soon they'll be completely overrun.
"Zeta-tube ready!" Robin exclaimed through the link.
"Get everyone inside, more are surely on their way!" Hunter ordered as he narrowly dodged a blast coming from below.
The prince flew down to the ground avoiding more blasts along the way. He glanced over and saw that the Invisible Jet was still untouched. Landing on the ground he found that nearly everyone was inside. He looked up and saw the ships bearing down on them.
"Wonder Warrior!" Conner's voice came with a tone of panic, "Let's go!"
Hunter gave the ships one last glare before he ran inside. The two ran into the library where the others were waiting. The soldiers pointed their guns at the door and ceiling to prepare for the ceiling to cave in. They saw Miss Martian and Robin have already gone.
Kid Flash was next in line.
KID FLASH B-03
Just then the wall blew open sending fire and debris flying their way. Wonder Warrior leapt between the soldiers and the debris before slamming his bracelets together, sending the fire and debris flying backward. The smoke dissipated revealing a squadron of ships hovering above them.
They immediately began to fire on them, sending a barrage of laser beams. Hunter slammed his hands in the ground before lifting up a section of concrete forming a makeshift shield. The soldiers fired at the ships but the bullets simply bounced off the armor of the ships. Artemis grabbed Kid Flash and shoved him into the Zeta-tube before she was immediately shot in the back by a beam and disappearing.
"Artemis!" Wally exclaimed before he was teleported away.
Wonder Warrior let out a frustrated growl before he lifted the concrete in his hands and chuck it at the ships. The debris destroyed two of the many ships. One by one they were being shot down and disappeared. Hunter flew back and grabbed Martian Manhunter.
"Get to the cave, we will not be joining you!" He declared before he shoved the Martian Towards the Zeta-tube and teleporting.
"Where are we going?" Superboy asked as they ducked under a pile of debris.
"Themyscira." Hunter replied looking over the debris, "The Invisible Jet is still cloaked but getting to it won't be easy."
Superboy grabbed Wonder Warrior's hand catching his attention, "We'll stick together, that's all we need to do." He said before he pulled Hunter into a chased kiss.
Rex barked in confirmation as they broke away from their embrace.
"We'll provide you with cover fire!" General Eiling informed, "We'll need that cavalry!" The two heroes nodded.
Wonder Warrior and Superboy exchanged one last look before they and Rex leapt over the pile of debris. The trio ran through the library as the remaining soldiers kept the aliens' attention on them. They ran through the lobby and out onto the street.
They ran down the street avoiding any lasers that came their way. They would glance over their shoulders to make sure they weren't about to be shot down. They were nearing the Invisible Jet when a stray blast shot down a building next to them. Hunter dived out of the way but Conner was a step too slow. Rex tackled Conner, pushing him out of the way.
"Rex." Hunter gasped looking at the pile of rubble where the wolf once stood.
Conner clenched his fists before he stood up and ran to Hunter, "We have to go!"
He could only nod before he rejoined Conner in their sprint. They made it under the jet where Hunter placed his hand on the cold invisible metal. The ventral doors slid open and they jumped inside. Hunter quickly took the pilot's seat and Conner strapped in next to him.
"This take off is gonna be a little bumpy." Wonder Warrior warned as he fired up the ventral afterburners.
The Invisible Jet lifted off the black cement of the street. It rose above the buildings before the rear burners fired alive and the jet took off. The jet sliced through the air like an unseen dagger as it pierced the clouds. Once the jet rose above the clouds the prince leveled the aircraft out.
"Hold on tight." The prince warned before the jet began to accelerate, "At top speed we'll be there in under an hour."
Given their superior strength and durability the g-force had little effect on them as they reached Mach 10. They flew in silence as they watched the clouds below them speed by. In the silence they were left with their thoughts. Conner kept his thoughts on the task at hand while Hunter thought of the ones they've lost. Aqualad, Artemis, and Rex have all perished and the Justice League before them.
"What comes after?" Hunter suddenly asked, glancing at Conner, "When - if we win, what happens after?"
"We will win." Conner said confidently before he shrugged, "I don't know, I suppose we'll have to figure it out as we go."
Hunter could only nod before he turned his gaze ahead.
"Cave to Invisible Jet, are you guys there?" Robin's voice chimed through the radio.
"We're here." Hunter replied, "We're enroute to Themyscira." He paused before he took a deep breath, "We lost Artemis and Rex."
"Yeah we heard, KF isn't taking it too well." Robin said before they heard a commotion over the radio, "Sorry about Rex."
"What was that?" Superboy asked.
"KF, he's been punching the wall and knocking stuff over." Robin answered, "Miss Martian has been trying to calm him down but nothing's working."
"Have you guys reminded him that she's most likely still alive?" Hunter replied.
"We have but he's assuming the worst." He said before they heard a crashing sound, "I think I'll have to intervene, please reply with some good news guys."
"We'll try." He only replied before the transmission cut out.
The rest of the flight remained in tense silence. It was clear Wally and Artemis had unresolved feelings for one another. The speedster is in pain after losing Flash and Iris and now Artemis. Hunter tightened his grip on the controls. What should happen if Conner dies, would he lose control?
"We're here." Hunter said before he froze.
He thought he was going to meet the sight of Themyscira, lush and green. Here is the sight of a burning ruin. The forest and city were burning creating a plume of smoke reaching into the sky. He quickly landed the jet on the beach before he opened the rear ramp. He didn't spare Conner a glance before he flew out of the jet.
Soaring low enough to avoid the smoke Hunter saw the once great city have been turned to ruin. He looked around in despair as he saw the bodies of Amazons littered around the city. He looked up to see the royal palace on fire like a torch above the city. He flew faster and faster before he landed on the ground cracking the marble underneath his feet.
"Grandmother!" He called out as he ran around the palace.
Eventually he arrived at the throne room only to find it demolished. He approached the broke remains of the throne and found Hippolyta's golden crown on the floor. He feel to his knees and picked up the crown. He bowed his head and rested his head against the crown.
"Hunter!" Conner's voice echoed through the ruined palace but the prince did not respond.
The clone found his boyfriend kneeling before the throne. He silently approached him before he saw what he was holding. He recognized the item. It belonged to Queen Hippolyta, it was her crown.
"Maybe there's a few survivors." Conner suggested but Hunter shook his head.
"No, they would've fought to the last. It's our way." He stood up and sighed, "I should've been here. If I never left, if I hadn't stowed away then maybe -"
"You did what you had to do." Conner quickly said, "Your mom and grandmother wanted you to be a hero. You made then proud."
"How can you be proud from the grave?" Hunter muttered, "We need to get back to the cave and tell the team what happened." He said before walking away, crown in hand.
Mount Justice, 8:23 P.M
Robin, Kid Flash and M'gann watched as the Invisible Jet appeared above them before it lowered to a landing. They had just sent the message out to the entire world. They explained the mission with their teammates over the intercom although the two were eerily silent. Robin could only assume the worst.
The ramp lowered revealing a very somber pair of heroes. Superboy stepped down first before Wonder Warrior followed him. They remained silent as the prince approached them. Looking up at his teammates he took a deep breath before he held up Hippolyta's golden crown.
"The Amazons of Themyscira are all dead." He declared gaining a shocked silence, "I've never thought that the Amazons could be be so soundly but when I saw the bodies. . ." He closed his eyes and fell deathly silent, "They're gone, they're all gone."
Robin took a deep breath before he said, "The mothership in Smallville is our best bet."
Hunter nodded before walked past the team, "Let's leave as soon as possible." He declared before he disappeared into the corridor.
"Where's he going?" Wally asked as they watched the corridor.
"He is preparing for war." Martian Manhunter declared as he walked through a nearby wall, "This mission may be the final stand against these invaders."
The team prepared for what may be their final mission. Robin packed extras of all his gadgets and the others prepped the Invisible Jet. Once everything was set all they did was wait for Wonder Warrior. They didn't wait long as the Last Amazon returned to the hangar causing the team to freeze at the sight of him, or rather his armor.
The armor Hunter wore shined silver and encapsulated his entire body. From the back were two large wings that nearly dragged behind him. His helmet was in the shape of an eagle's head and covered Hunter's black hair. The only thing they recognized was his golden lasso that remained at his side.
Wally could only muster a hushed, "Whoa."
"Let us be on our way." Hunter then entered the jet leaving his teammates in bewilderment.
"I want armor like that." Kid Flash muttered.
Smallville, 9:45 P.M.
The Invisible Jet levitated nearly a mile away from the mothership. Robin looked through the cockpit with binoculars. His heart was beating a mile a minute and Wonder Warrior and Superboy could hear it.
"Ok, Team Alpha deploy!" He ordered.
Martian Manhunter took Miss Martian's hand in his own before they phased through the ship. The team watched the martians fly away before they both became transparent. They waited in tense silence as the martians infiltrated the ship.
"Ready, in position." M'gann's voice came into their minds, "Guys. . .please be careful."
"Team Beta, you're up." Robin declared looking at Hunter and Conner.
The ventral doors slid open and the two heroes jumped down to the ground below. Conner looked down at Hunter who met his gaze. The didn't exchange any words before they pulled each other into a tight embrace and shared a chased kiss. Stepping away they nodded before they went for the attack.
"For Themyscira, for the Amazons, for vengeance and justice!" Wonder Warrior let out a battle cry as he smashed through one of the many turrets that lined the mothership's exterior.
Wonder Warrior and Superboy rampaged around the ship before the smaller fighter began to launch out of hidden hangar bays. Hunter took to the sky to draw off their fire while Superboy focused on the turrets. The prince looked down to see Kid Flash carry Robin inside of the ship at super speed. They've accomplished the first half of the mission.
"They're inside!" Hunter declared before he rambled right through a fighter.
"Then let's keep wrecking these bastards' mothership!" Superboy replied as ripped a turret off the ship before he aimed it at the others.
Wonder Warrior flew along the side of the ship. Flying between the turrets the fighters chasing him destroyed their own turrets. He snaked his way up the ship leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. Reaching the top of the ship Hunter quickly turned around before he flew back down with a boom. He rammed right through the fighters leaving a trail of fire.
He returned to find Conner having difficulty fending off the remaining turrets and fighters. He flew over to help when he saw a ship over Conner's shoulder. He gasped before he sped his decent. He reached out for Conner but he was too late.
"Conner!" He wailed as he watched Superboy dissappear.
Not a second later Hunter's entire body became engulfed in white light, eliminating the night sky. Any approaching fighter was instantly destroyed from the shockwave of pure divine energy. Hot tears streamed down Wonder Warriors's face as he looked up at the oncoming fighters with fury in his burning eyes. Storm clouds began to form in the sky, blotting out the stars and the moon, as thunder rumbled, lighting flashed and the wind began to blow with a howl.
"I will kill. ALL! OF! YOU!" Dispair cracked in his voice before he raised hands before swinging them down unleashing a fury lightning bolts down from the sky. Each bold struck a fighter destroying them instantly.
Before he could do much else the mothership below him erupted in flames. He looked down to see the ship has been destroyed. He listened for his friends, he waited to hear their voices or hearts, anything that could indicate their survival. He heard nothing, they were all gone.
He's the only one left.
Feeling a cold wind on his skin he looked up to find a second mothership descending through the clouds. He glared at the ship and shook his head, "I meant what I said." He muttered as his eyes burned white.
He's going to kill them all.
He flew up to meet the ship as the sky above began to roil. Lightning flashed as Hunter rammed his way into the ship. He carved his way through the ship seeking to cause as much destruction as possible. Explosions trailed up the ship before Hunter broke through the top with a ball of fire. The prince raised a single hand and grabbed a bolt of lightning before he threw it down like a spear, destroying the second mothership.
Hunter huffed before he looked up to see three more motherships entering the atmosphere, "To Hades with you all!" He exclaimed he flew up after them.
One after another he destroyed the ships but they continued their assault. No matter how many he destroyed they were always replaced with at least ten more. His body began to tear apart as he fought through the onslaught. Tiring he could hardly keep himself airborne.
"I refuse to give up, I refuse to. . ." His remaining energy died out as he fell from the sky.
This is it, it's over.
Mother, grandmother, the Amazons, the League and his team.
Even Conner.
He's lost them all so what's the point of fighting anymore.
Plummeting from the sky he was expecting his vision to fade to black but a bright violet light engulf his sight.
