I don't know what happened, but it's probably the Outsider's fault.)
Billie stood in the doorway with her arms crossed and eyebrows raised, staring across the room with some combination of concern and deep amusement.
She had seen a lot living in this city, heard a hundred whales singing in the harbor under moonlight, even glimpsed into the Void itself, but Daud as a young man had to be one of the strangest things she'd ever experienced. It was just odd and nearly unnerving, seeing his familiar scowl creasing a face free of scars and lines, hearing his words in a voice so smooth and ungravelled. Even the way he walked was slightly changed, old, lingering injuries no longer bothering him. Or not bothering him yet, she supposed.
"I'm sure you have something better to do, Lurk," Daud snapped, looking up from his work to shoot a glare in her direction.
She rolled her eyes as she left the room. Maybe not that much had changed.
