Hey guys!
Like I told you guys before this chapter is pretty short. This is part one of a two or three-part chapter explaining the past of a few individuals. Calliope's past will be explained in the next chapter. I know you're curious about what happened to her and how she got this way so bear with me. Finally, I don't own Marvel, only my Oc's.

Steve's POV
One Week Ago
It's early in the morning when a meeting is called by Director Fury. By this point, I'm used to last-minute conferences and missions. What I didn't expect is to see all of the Avengers at said meeting. Well, all except two, that is. In their place is a woman I have never seen before.
"What's going on?" I asked as I entered the room. I sit in between Banner and Barton, but my attention is on Nick Fury and Maria Hill. "Why did you assemble the five of us?"
"We seem to have a problem, and we hope one of you will have a clue on how to trace it," Director Fury states as he drops a thick manila folder on the table.
"What exactly are you tracking?"
"Star Ray," Agent Hill announces as the screen behind her lights up with a picture of Calliope on it. The photo is a recent one at that. I should know since she was with me the day this picture was taken. What irritates me is that we were nowhere near S.H.I.E.L.D., so they shouldn't have this picture of her in the first place. How long have they been keeping an eye on her?
Before I can ask any questions Stark begins to speak, "What happened? The last time I saw the kid, she was at the Academy. Now she's missing? That doesn't add up."
"We'll get back to what you said in a moment," Fury said, before calling up two of his agents. "All of you are well acquainted with Barton. He's also Star Ray's Supervising Officer along with agent Edwards. They're going to go over the last 24 hours she was last seen. From there, we'll move on to those who had close contact with her in the past 48 hours. As of right now, she has been missing for 10 hours, and although we have many agents searching for Rodriguez, it won't be easy to locate her. She has a knack for disappearing without a trace. It doesn't help that she can take off into the skies at a moment's notice. Edwards, go ahead-"
"Before she starts I want to know why you're treating this as a fugitive case?" I ask the Director as I face him and his second in command. "Locating it? Calliope isn't an object, Nick. She's a founding member of the Avengers."
"No one is trying to treat Star Ray like an object, but the populace still fears her-"
"The people? Or the Government?" I countered, realizing how wrong this situation sounds now that I've said something. Why would Calliope disappear? Did something happen to her? Why didn't she call for back up? All of these questions bombard me at once and it's difficult to believe there isn't a chance that something could be happening behind our backs without us realizing it.
"Captain Rogers, may I remind you why you're here. To help locate Star Ray, not argue with those in charge of locating her."
Instead of arguing any further with the man, I hold my next statement back. I can hear the silent threat in his voice when he spoke. If I continue this argument I'll be removed from the case. I can't afford that to happen, not when Calliope might need me. S.H.E.I.L.D. is the only way I can gather the information I need to track her down. If she's in trouble I can help, but if she's running from us… I can help her get away before they capture her.
"Edwards," Fury calls his agent once again. Soon enough a woman takes his place, but I only hear half of what she says. Thinking back to my last conversation with the youngest Avenger, Calliope seemed just fine. True, she was concerned with her powers and what that could mean in the future, but I thought she was talking to Dr. Banner about that. Did something happen?
Looking over at the doctor, I see him fidgeting in his seat. Seeing how Banner is usually nervous around officials, I almost ignore my gut feeling, whether or not he knows anything. Almost that is.
Opening my phone as quietly as I can, I type out a message and show it to the doctor without anyone noticing.
Calliope went to talk to you about her "problem", right?
Banner sees this and takes the phone to type out his own message.
Yes, she did.
I was right about to type out my next message when Romanoff catches me.
"Anything you want to share, Rogers?" she asked us in a would-be calm tone. Her eyes, on the other hand, show a different story. She knows we have information, but we're refusing to come forward with it.
"No," I answered back as Barton went up to take the other agent's place at the front. This time I give my undivided attention to the man in front of us.
"Yesterday, in the middle of class, Calliope is seen existing without permission or explanation. No one knew where she went or why. Late last night, she returned to her dorm. When I asked her where she went, all Calliope said is that she was out flying. However, we cannot confirm this since her phone was left at the Academy..." Barton trails off, and something tells me that he knows more than what he's letting on. "When I confronted her about the erratic behavior she was exhibiting, Calliope began to breakdown before she took off."
"Breakdown?" Banner asked the archer. "What do you mean by that?"
"She freaked out."
"Do you remember what she said?" Romanoff questioned her partner as she leaned back into her seat. The way she's reacting to all of this is bothering me. It's almost as if Natasha was expecting this to happen. "Depending on what she said it might give us a clue about her whereabouts."
"The kid only mentioned she was scared she would hurt someone else or..."
"Or what Agent Barton?" Fury asked the man.
"She might die," Barton trailed off at the end. Clearly, he feels bad for not handling the problem better. Still, that's something we can discuss at a later time.
"She might hurt someone? Did she say anything else?"
"No...but we do have reports of Calliope going to Stark Towers on Saturday. Before that, as Stark mentioned, he came to the Academy last week on Friday to speak with her."
"What were you doing there, Stark?" Fury asked the genius. "You didn't have clearance to visit her."
"Geez, we need to make an appointment to visit her now? I went to check up on her."
"Why?"
"Why? I don't know, maybe it's the fact that she's a kid with no family or friends. Maybe it's the fact that after the battle, we all had a place to go home to besides her. She's all alone out there, that's why!" Stark yelled, throwing his arms into the air. "You know, even at my lowest, I had someone. I just wanted her to know I was there for her."
"What was she doing at the Tower?"
"I don't know," he shrugged. "Calliope didn't tell me. Believe it or not, she's not much of a talker."
"I know why she was there," Banner piped up in a small voice, confirming my earlier suspicions. "But I can't say what it was about."
"Doctor, you're obligated to help us," Fury tried to argue, but Banner wouldn't budge.
"No, because it's not what she would have wanted," Banner quietly explained to the group. "I understand why you're worried, but we may have to come to an agreement that the best thing to do is nothing."
"Not an option."
As an argument began between the group on how to proceed I chose to think about something else. If Calliope went to Banner as I suggested, and now she's missing after freaking out about what could happen in the near future. Banner must have found something, so I'll have to speak to him later about it when we're alone.
"You're awfully quiet, Captain Rogers."
Looking over to my left side, I notice Agent Hill looking at me as she spoke. Not knowing what she meant by that, I sat up in my seat. The entire group is now looking at me, waiting for my reply.
"You say that like it's a problem," I replied to the brunette. "Is it a problem?"
"It could be considering how much time you two spend together."
"You think I know where she is," I say slowly, understanding her silent question. "You think I'm playing dumb, and I actually know her location."
"Do you?"
"No, but even if I did, I wouldn't tell you where she is."
"Captain Rogers, you are an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. first and foremost."
"I know what I am, Agent Hill. I also know where I stand concerning this problem."
"And where is that?" Romanoff asked, leaning forward in her seat. "With Star Ray?"
"Yes," I confirmed, standing up from my chair. "Do you people have any idea what type of life you're putting her through?"
"We aren't forcing-"
"Bullcrap, yes, you are. I know the options she was given along with anyone who has abilities. Their choices are limited and far from pleasing. What I don't understand is why you're putting so much pressure on a child."
"Rogers, you don't understand-"
"Don't tell me I don't understand what's going on. Like Hill said, I spend more time with her than the rest of you. I'm her friend."
"You think I'm not," Clint yelled, slamming his hand on the table. "I've been with her since the beginning. When you were still defrosting I was there holding her when her entire world fell apart!"
"After you set her up to fail, or did you forget how you withheld information from her. Now, you're treating her like a criminal on the loose instead of a missing person. So are you really her friend or are you her handler? If you were her friend, then you would have known what she's freaking out about, but you don't," I point out to him before I start speaking to the whole group. "Now, I understand why she left without a word. The way you're treating her as if she's some type of weapon instead of an Avenger. That picture of her, for example, why do you have it? We were nowhere near S.H.I.E.L.D. that day. You've been tracing each of her steps. On top of that, you put more responsibilities on her than any other agent."
"Her training is lax compared to some people I know," Romanoff mentioned to the group. "She should count herself grateful. She's given a chance to train in an agency that will accept her despite knowing how dangerous she is."
"Because of her powers?"
"I was speaking about the threats she makes."
"What?"
"You aren't aware of that? I thought you were friends?" Natasha calmly snarks back at me with her arms crossed.
"What are you talking about?"
"Some time ago, we put Star Ray through a test to figure out where she stands. Agent Romanoff spoke to her as apart of this assignment, and Rodriguez failed. She threatened the life of my best agent, and you expect me not to keep an eye on someone like that?" Fury said, coming to Natasha's defense.
"Considering how much you lie, I expect there's more to this story than you're letting on," I retaliated. "If you push someone against a wall, of course, they'll fight back. Calliope is no different, seeing how people have been pushing her down since the start. I'm not surprised she left."
"But you are concerned, aren't you Captain?" Edwards asked, surprising everyone at the meeting, myself included. I nod my head in return as I sit back down in my seat, waiting for her response. "She's your friend, and I'm glad she has someone to speak to. I've seen her come so far and I'd hate for her to lose the chance at a better life. So, help us find her."
Agreeing with the woman, the entire group settles down. She's right, after all, now isn't the time to be arguing over details. We can figure everything else after we locate Calliope.
"Clint, you said she flew off, correct?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Is it possible that she left the planet? In her stats, it states she doesn't breathe as a normal human does. She also doesn't react to temperatures as we do."
"Hill," Furry called out to his second in command. "In the last 10 hours, have there been any disturbances in Earth's atmosphere?"
After a few minutes of typing on her tablet, Hill responds, "Yes, right around the time Agent Barton spoke to Star Ray."
"Why weren't we told about this?"
"The speed of the object was too fast, so it was marked as a glitch in the system."
"How fast was it?" Banner asked from his spot beside me, taking out a Stark phone from his pocket.
"9.5 kilometers per second. That's faster than any rocket. In any case, it's safe to assume that Edwards is correct. Star Ray has left Earth with no signs of returning."
Present Day
It's been two weeks since Calliope has gone missing. I'm worried if she's okay. All of the Avengers are pitching in to find her just in case she's still on Earth, but we haven't had much luck. Not to mention the whole incident that happened with the Mandarin and Stark. I wasn't able to help since I was on an assignment on the other side of the world with Romanoff.
Finally, as Friday came to an end, I changed out of my uniform to head home. Walking out of the building to my motorcycle, I bump into Romanoff. Ever since the meeting two weeks ago, I've kept my distance from the woman, with the exception of missions. I don't like how she's quick to abandon her teammates. After the meeting, I tracked her down to get the rest of the story about what happened that day when Calliope supposedly threatened her. Sure, Calliope could have handled the confrontation better, but Romanoff definitely could've done better when it came to the test. Calliope is a cautious individual who doesn't like feeling pressured. She hinted plenty of times that her past wasn't pleasant, which is why she keeps away from others no matter how kind they are to her. S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't making it easy for her to move on if they keep pulling stunts like this on her. One day she might finally give up on others if she hasn't already.
"Romanoff."
"Rogers," She smirked at me. "You seem in a pleasant mood. On the way to kick the can or listen to the sporting events on the radio?"
"Haha, very funny," I mutter to the red-heads quip about my age."Your mood doesn't seem to be down in the least bit. You must not care about Calliope being missing, do you."
I didn't stop walking as I said this, but Natasha did. What surprised me is when I felt her hand on my arm pulling me back. Curious as to what she has to say I turn to face the woman.
"If I didn't care, I wouldn't show you this," She mumbled, pulling out her phone to show me the screen. On it was a picture of dirt with weird markings burned onto it. It doesn't show a location but it looks like it's somewhere down south due to the landscape. Although, it could be in a different country now that I think about it. "It seems Thor is back on Earth. Hopefully, once we track him down, he can tell us if he's seen her."
For the first time since I was told about Calliope's disappearance, I felt myself relax. Thor knows a lot more about space than we do, so there could be a chance he could help us. We just need to find him first, but the problem is he could be anywhere right now.
"I have to ask," I hear the spy speak up. "Out of everyone in this century, why did you choose to be friends with her?"
Thinking about the question that was asked, I had to take a moment to think about it. When I first heard of Calliope, I was shocked by her story and the mystery that surrounded it. When I met her, I noticed how she differed from anyone I have met in the past. The more I spoke to her, the more she drew me in with the way she spoke. To be honest, I've never had luck with most individuals, but every now and then I'll meet someone I understand. Like Bucky, and Peggy. Calliope reminds me of them in a way, but more than that is how different she is compared to them.
"When I'm with her, I don't feel alone anymore. She understands what it feels like to be alone both inside and out of this line of work. To have everyone look down on you you're entire life and then be pushed out into the spotlight. To lose what little you had. I guess I could relate. She made living in this century a bit easier for me."
I didn't stay to listen to her response. In all honesty, I don't feel like speaking to anyone right now. By the time I get back to my building, I bump into someone else. I don't know her name, but she's a nurse who lives down the hall from me. I usually try my hand at small talk with her, but I walk past her instead.
Walking inside and closing the door behind me, I lean against it. I don't understand why I feel so tired today. I haven't felt this way in a while, but no matter how much sleep I get the night before, I just don't feel rested.
Finally, turning the lights on, I drop my keys as something catches my eyes. The sound must have been enough to startle someone else since she woke up with a jump.
"Steve? Geez, don't scare me like that," she said, clutching the spot on her chest on top of her heart. "What took you so long, anyhow?"
I'm not sure what drove me to do this, but the first thing I do is give her a hug. In the past, Calliope would have pushed me off, so I'm surprised that not only did she allow me to hug her, but she returned the hug. I think this is the first time she ever allowed me to touch her, not counting the times she's ridden on my motorcycles with me. Ordinarily, she keeps everyone an arm's length at all times.
"I don't understand," I finally said, letting go but refusing to leave her side. "Where have you been?"
"Ah, so you noticed I've been gone, huh?" she smiled as she scratched the back of her head.
"What are you talking about?! Of course, I noticed! Cal, you've been missing for two weeks?"
"Seriously?"
"Yes, now, where have you been? You had me worried."
"I'm sorry, um, but I was on Asgard," She explained, and it was only then that I noticed her attire. This means the picture Romanoff showed me wasn't about Thor; it was Calliope.
"How did you end up on Asgard?"
"Well, long story short, I sort of flew into space, and I guess I fell asleep during my flight. Heimdall, the gatekeeper, saw me floating in space and beamed me up to Asgard, where Thor helped me recover. The part that's confusing me is that I was barely on Asgard for two days. It was more like a day if you checked the time I arrived and left."
"Which means you were unconscious for almost two weeks."
"Yeah, that has never happened before, but I can't tell you much about it since I don't remember it. I just remember waking up on Asgard and staying with Thor."
"But why did you leave?" I didn't mean for my voice to dip as it did, but I couldn't stop it. I never said it out loud, but it hurt that Calliope left without a word. Not just that, but she didn't come to me when she was in trouble.
"Steve, I'm sorry I worried you. I was going to call you but Clint started yelling and I freaked out. So I left rather than facing my fears, but I promise it won't happen again. If you give me a chance, I'd like to tell you the whole story."
"Really?"
"Yeah, I trust you," she said, smiling up at me. That was the first time Calliope has ever said that she trusts me, and it feels like a weight being lifted off of me. "Just don't tell anyone I'm here, though. I don't feel like answering any questions right now."
"I won't speak a word about you being here to anyone," I promised her with the first smile I've shown in weeks. "But the first thing we're going to do is get you settled. I'll let you borrow some clothes, and while you're in the shower I'll order some food."
A Millenium Ago
Odin's POV
As I lay beside my beloved Queen, I begin to think of the life I have led. Conquering the nine-realms to unite them under my rule, becoming the All-Father, and finding the Tesseract. One of the six infinity stones from across the cosmos. Yet, I feel restless as I lay here motionless.
Leaving my bedroom, I walk throughout the palace. All seems well until I observe two guards sleeping at their post. Furious at their audacity to slumber during their watch, I move to wake them. Nevertheless, they sleep as if I never made a sound. I believe them to be dead until I hear the sound of their breath. I call out for more guards, but no one comes to me. Fearing the worst, I rush to my daughters' room only to find her in a deep slumber like the rest of the world. Even when I returned to my Queen, she did not wake.
"What has happened?" I ask myself as I call out to my ravens, Huginn; and Muninn. I wait for the two, but neither one responds to my calls. "What sorcery is this?!"
"Mine, Odin, son of Bor," a voice I have never heard called out to me. The voice is filled with raw power like a volcanic eruption, yet it is gentle like a mother with a newborn. "I have come to speak to you and you alone."
"Who are you?" I ask the wind since I see no creature before me.
"I am Raja."
Raja? I have heard of this being once before from my father when I was a boy. Raja is an entity that has not been seen since before the time of King Bor. It is said that this being is beyond our reach along with the Beyonder and the great Tribunal. However, Raja watches the universe waiting for a single moment to return. No one knows what it is or why she waits. We only know that on occasions, she will assist those in need as she waits. So why does she need to speak to me?
"Why do you seek me?" I ask Raja, and suddenly a figure appears before me. Words can never describe the beauty I see as my eyes take hold of her. I drop to my knees before her as a single tear drops due to her glorious radiance. The legend never described a being of this magnitude.
"Odin Borson, I have come to assign a task to you. One that will require your entire devotion as it will take a lifetime to complete."
"What is the task?"
"Relinquish your ways of war and destruction. Begin a new path to unite the realms with peace."
"...what?"
"You will not reign over the realms as a conqueror, but you will end any feud that begins between two. Should your daughter deny you this, you must put an end to Hela and her vile ways. Bear a new child, one that favors peace. Should this child also leave the path to peace, banish him to Earth, where he will learn humility. You must also leave the Tesseract on Earth for the Humans to keep guard it."
"Why would I do this," I ask the being who hovered before me. "Abandon my child, raise another only to leave it. Bequeath my prized jewel to the hands of those-"
"Humans? What is wrong with my race Odin?"
"You're-," my words leave me as I gaze upon her. I never knew she was of Earth. "Forgive me, Raja."
"I never said you must abandon your children. As a mother, I know the heartache that comes from the distance put between a parent and their child. Nevertheless, all children must be taught a lesson when they stray. You must teach them as I am educating you. As for the Tesseract, it must leave your hand, but given time it will return to you."
"When?"
"A battle between invaders and your children will ensue. Only at this point will it return to you."
"...Very well."
"There is one last thing you must accomplish for me, as I can not be seen doing so."
"What may that be?" I quickly inquired.
"Years from now you will meet a woman with glowing pink eyes and the power of a star within her heart. You must give her this," the entity commands as she produces a sheet of paper from nowhere. "Tell her all will end as it should. If she does not understand then tell her she will, one day."
"I will," I swore with my entire essence. "When will I see you again?"
"In time we shall meet anew."
Without warning, she vanished into the night. As the Sun rose to signal the new day, no one knew of the events that transpired the night before. Only I knew of Raja's appearance and my change of heart. As the years passed, I carried out my promise to Raja. I pray that I meet her once more before my time comes to pass into the next life. Only then may I rest in peace.
I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter. The next chapter won't be up for a while but hopefully, the results will be worth the wait. Until next time!
