Chapter 74
Taking a Stand
McGonagall used a spell that brought the suits of armor in the entrance hall to life.
"I've always wanted to use that spell." she told Mrs. Weasley.
I smiled a bit and we started to cast protective enchantments around the school. Ron and Hermione had gone to the Chamber of Secrets. Draco took my hand and I looked at him.
"You alright?"
I arched my brow.
"Your dad."
"Oh. Yeah, I'll be alright once I find him. We're finally coming to the end of this war. It's almost over."
He smiled at me and reached up to cup my cheek.
"Don't you let a single one of those bastards even scratch you."
I smiled and covered his hand with mine.
"Never."
He leaned down and pressed his silken lips against mine.
"I love you, Lillian Rose Snape."
I smiled.
"I love you too, Draco Malfoy."
I heard Neville talking to McGonagall and the topic snagged my attention.
"You're really giving us permission to do this?"
"That is correct, Longbottom."
"To blow it up. Boom."
"Boom!" McGonagall said.
I smiled and looked at Draco who smirked in response to the conversation.
"Wicked... um, exactly how do you propose we do that professor?"
"Why don't you confer with Mr. Finnegan. As I recall he has a particular proclivity for pyrotechnics." she said.
We all looked at Seamus. He'd been accidentally blowing things up since our first year.
"I can bring 'er down." he said.
He ran off with Ginny and Neville. Draco looked at me again.
"Remember when he blew up his water?"
I couldn't hold back my laugh. He leaned forward to kiss me, but we were interrupted by a very bright light. The death eaters were firing spells at our barrier. All we could do was watch and wait. I looked down at my bracelet and lightly touched it.
"Please be safe, dad." I whispered.
Draco gave me a little squeeze to reassure me. After another minute the spells stopped.
"Dare I hope they've given up?"
"You can dare, but it's not likely." he said.
I smiled a bit. I screamed when lightening came down on us. Draco held me tightly to his chest.
"It's okay. It's alright. We'll be fine." he told me.
Draco's POV
Everything I said completely went against what I was saying. The shield around Hogwarts shattered. I tightened my hold on Lily and begged whoever was listening to keep her safe through this battle. I knew the second they realized the shield was gone they would come. I had Lily look at me.
"No matter what happens I won't let anything happen to you. I will always protect you. But you stay with me! Do you understand?"
"Yes. I promise."
I kissed her hard and then held onto her hand.
"We'll survive this. I promise you that and we will have that future you want. Always remember that I love you more than anything."
She gave me her brightest smile.
"And I love you. So much."
I smiled and squeezed her hand. I heard a loud noise and looked up. They were coming.
Harry's POV
Wherever Lily was, I knew she was with Malfoy, and I knew for a fact he would protect her, so I wasn't overly worried. I was heading to Ravenclaw Tower before Luna stopped me and led me to another part of the castle. She told me I had to talk to the Grey Lady. The ghost of Ravenclaw.
"You'll find her here." Luna told me.
"Thanks, Luna."
She smiled softly like she often did and then left. I took a deep breath and went to find her.
Lily's POV
Large black plumes were flying towards us and then turning to death eaters. I held up my wand.
"Sectumsempra!"
A death eater fell, but it was only one out of many.
"Fall inside! Back inside all of you!"
Draco grabbed my hand and we ran. The death eaters broke through the window and cornered us. We blocked their spells and fought them off. Eventually we were forced back outside. We were attacked again and I was separated from Draco during the chaos. I shouted his name and looked for him. I was running from the Quidditch field. It had been burnt to the ground. I tripped and rolled down a hill. I hit a rock and cried out.
"Snapeling!"
I looked up and saw a death eater coming towards me. My wand was out of reach!
"BACK AWAY FROM MY DAUGHTER!"
I smiled and looked over my shoulder. My dad was there. He had his and pointed at the death eater.
"Traitor!"
Dad narrowed his eyes.
"Sectumsempra!" dad hissed.
The death eater fell back and dad helped me up.
"Go! Find Draco and your brother."
I smiled.
"I love you daddy. And I never doubted you."
He smiled sadly and then hugged me.
"I love you, Lily. So much. Now go. Go quickly."
"Come with me please!"
"I wish I could. But I can't let him find out I'm a 'traitor'. Not yet. MY first priority is your safety. Now go!"
I had no other choice. I hugged him tightly and then ran.
