Chapter 75
Terrible Loss
"DRACO!? DRACO!"
I got rid of another death eater and kept shouting for Draco. I was suddenly surrounded by death eaters.
"Time to kill the Snapeling."
They never got the chance.
"Stupefy!"
"Reducto!"
"Expelluiamus!"
"Flippendo Maxima!"
The death eaters we're either killed or knocked out.
"Lily!"
Luna, Neville, Seamus and Ginny were there. I smiled and ran to them.
"Thanks guys."
"LILY!"
I turned and saw Draco running to me. I smiled and he took me in his arms as he reached me.
"I thought I'd lost you."
His voice shook slightly and I held him tightly.
"I'm alright."
"Don't ever hurt her, Malfoy. You'll answer to us."
"He'd never. She's he's light in the dark." Luna said.
Draco smiled at her.
"Come on, we have to find your brother." he looked at my friends. "Thank you."
Draco took my hand and we left. As we ran the ground started to shake. We stopped and looked around. My eyes widened and my jaw dropped.
"Draco."
He turned and immediately pushed me behind him. There were giants.
"We have to warn the teachers. Do not let go of my hand! Run!"
We ran as fast as we could back to the school. We found Professor McGonagall and Professor Sprout and told them everything. Their eyes widened when we told them about the giants.
"Miss Snape, you and Mr. Malfoy still have your brooms?"
I still had my Firebolt so I nodded.
"Mine is at home."
"Then I'll take you with me."
"Stay as far above the giants as you can. Take a few of the older students with you."
I agreed right away and we ran off. I set my bag down and reached in. I was shoulder deep when I finally found it. I pulled the broom out then slid the bag back over my shoulders.
"Come on."
We mounted the broom and he put his hands on my hips. I flew as fast as I can, finding students that could help. We fought as hard as we could. After about thirty or so minutes, I felt a sense of desperation. It wasn't mine.
"Harry!"
I turned the broom and flew into the castle and through the halls.
"Lily slow up a bit! I think I know where he is!"
I slowed down and stopped.
"Where could someone had a horcrux without a massive risk of someone finding it?"
I thought for a minute, but I was so worried about my brother I couldn't think straight. I shook my head and he smiled a bit.
"Room of Requirement."
I smiled and nodded.
"I bet we find Weasley and Granger there too. Go."
I nodded and flew as fast as I could the the seventh floor. I put my broom back in my bag and Draco got the door to appear.
"That was fast."
He smiled at me.
"I practically lived in this room last year."
"Please don't remind me."
"I'm sorry. You know that's not me anymore. You saved me, by loving me and believing in me. Now, let's go."
I heard footsteps and Draco looked over his shoulder.
"Goyle... quick turn into a weasel."
I did as he said and he quickly hid himself. I pocked my head out of his pocket and saw Goyle run into the room. Blaise was about to follow but Draco whistled and then waved him over.
Harry's POV
I could feel it was close. I looked all around and something caught my eye. At the very top of one the piles there it was. I tried to summon it with my wand but it didn't work.
"Potter!"
Goyle had his wand raised.
"Hold it!"
Malfoy came around the corner with Blaise. He raised his wand at me.
"He's mine. All these years of telling me I'm no good for Lily, he's mine to finish off."
As soon as he was in front of Goyle he winked quickly. I decided to play along.
"You're not good enough! A death eater could never be worthy of my sister. She's pure, kind, and has the biggest heart. She's everything you're not!" I snapped.
"You'll pay for that! Now!"
Blaise hit Goyle and Lily jumped out of Malfoy's pocket. She turned back into herself and fired at Goyle.
"Traitor!"
"I can live with that!"
Ron and Hermione showed up and Goyle tried to cast the killing curse on Hermione. Ron ran after him shouting.
"That's my girlfriend you numpty!"
Malfoy looked at Lily and she had a rather victorious smile.
"I win."
"Yeah, yeah I know."
I heard a shout and Ron came running back.
"RUN!"
He grabbed Hermione's hand and I saw an orange glow.
"RUN!"
Malfoy grabbed Lily and then managed to pull on my sleeve. We ran and Malfoy tripped.
"Draco!"
"Lily run! Potter get her out!"
I grabbed Lily and tried to get her away.
Lily's POV
I wouldn't let him die!
"We can't just leave him. Or Zabini."
I summoned my broom from my bag.
"Look!" Hermione said.
I looked over and saw Draco and Blaise climbing to the top of one of the piles. There were more brooms against another pile.
"Go. I'll get them."
"You can't take three people on your broom."
Harry picked up one of the brooms.
"And I have to get the diadem. I'll get Zabini."
I nodded and Ron and Hermione took the last two brooms.
Draco's POV
I knew Lily wouldn't leave me. I got Blaise and we climbed to the top of a pile. I saw Lily come flying towards me on her broom. She reached out and I saw her brother right behind her. She pulled me up and I jumped up onto her broom, Potter got Blaise. The flames were getting bigger and hotter. The flames were chasing us but we managed to make it through the door. We all crashed and my back hit the wall. I couldn't stop the shout of pain and Lily crawled to me. I saw Potter stab the diadem thing with what looked like a fang. The flames disappeared and the door closed. Potter looked like he was in pain. Lily helped me up and then ran to him.
"Harry."
He took her hand.
"I'm alright."
He opened his eyes and looked at us.
"The snake. She's the last one."
I sighed.
"We'll never get near her. Especially not now."
"We have to try. There's four of us and one of him. Well two if you count the bloody snake." Lily said.
"But how do we find him?" Granger asked.
Weasley took a deep breath and then knelt down.
"Look inside him, Harry. Just this once."
Lily nodded.
"You can do it."
He kept a tight hold on her hand and closed his eyes. He winced a few times and then opened them.
"The boat house." he looked at me. "He was talking with your dad." he turned to Lily. "Lily... he wants Snape."
Her eyes widened in horror. She got up and started running and we ran right behind her.
Lily's POV
I ran into the boat house, my lungs burning. Voldemort was there and so was my dad. Voldemort looked at me and dad got in front of me.
"How touching."
"I beg you my lord, spare her. If you want my life then take it. But please, let my daughter live. Take my life."
"Dad no!"
"I recall a similar situation. When you begged me to spare the life of her mother."
I held onto my father's cloak.
"Yes… I beg you to spare my child. Spare her and I will give you anything."
"Such love, for the child of a woman who never loved you. The child of a man who tormented you."
"I don't need her mother to love me. Please, let her go."
"I'm a merciful lord… so I shall kill you first. You won't have to watch your child die."
I yanked my father back and got between them.
"Stand aside silly girl!"
I narrowed my eyes.
"Never! I'm not afraid of you!"
His lip twitched.
"You killed my mother, I won't let you kill my father."
He laughed.
"I remember your mudblood mother doing the same for you and your brother."
Dad grabbed my arm and threw me to the side. My eyes widened. Voldemort looked at me. A twisted smiled came to his face. He waved his wand and my father fell to the ground. I was frozen.
"Nagini, kill."
"NO! PLEASE! Kill me instead!"
"Lily no!"
"Kill me!" I said.
"Oh, I will. But not just yet."
The snake bit him twice and all I could do was watch. Tears came to my eyes and Voldemort looked at me. I glared at him and he only smiled. He disappeared and I looked at my father. He looked at me and I ran to him. Draco, Harry, Ron and Hermione came in and I looked at my brother.
"Help him! Please help him!" I cried.
"No…"
I looked at dad. He took my hand.
"It's too late. Nagini… she's venomous. I'm sorry Lily."
Tears were pouring down my cheeks.
"No! You don't have to be sorry! There has to be a way to help you. There has to. There has to!"
"Oh Lily… my time here is over. I've done everything I can to keep you safe. It's your turn now." He said.
I shook my head and squeezed his hand.
"Daddy don't talk like that. I need you to stay with me." I said.
"No. I was the one who needed you. You changed my life. You are my life."
I shook my head again and more tears came.
"Professor,"
Dad looked at Draco.
"I want to ask you for your daughter's hand. I love her, sir."
Dad looked at me again.
"Yes. Take care of my daughter." He said.
"Daddy please don't leave me!"
"I will never leave you, Lillian. I will always be with you, even if you can't see me. I'll be there beside you. I promise."
"No! I need you here. In this world."
"I'm sorry Lily. I love you so much. You're the best of my life. The only thing I ever did right. I am so proud of you."
His eyes started to close.
"No! No don't you dare! Daddy open your eyes!"
"I love you, Lily. I just have one last request."
"Anything."
"Sing your mother's song?"
I smiled a bit and started to sing.
White grows the Lily
Red grows the rose
Here lies my laddie
Look how he grows
One day he'll leave me
To cross shadowed seas
Pray god protect him
Keep him safe with me
His eyes closed and I screamed.
"NO! NO COME BACK!"
"Lily-"
"NO!" I screamed.
I put my forehead against my father's chest and cried. I cried like I never had before. Draco put his arms around me and I took his hand.
"He's gone Lily. I'm sorry." Harry said.
"Please come back. Please."
Harry's POV
My heart was breaking for Lily. She loved Snape so much. He really had been the best father she could have. He'd always tried to protect me. And I never even realized it. Now it was too late. I heard Voldemort's voice, telling me to meet him in the forbidden forest within the hour. If not, He would kill anyone who tried to hide me. Starting with Lily. Snape had given me his memories, I knew there was something he wanted me to know. I wasn't going to let him die in vain. He'd done everything to keep me alive, now it was my turn to return the favor.
