Chapter 79

Lily's Idea

Draco's POV

Lily was acting like she was alright, but I knew her heart was still broken. One night after dinner she was sitting in the library. I went in and sat down in front of the fireplace on the floor.

"Did I ever tell you about the time that McLaggen threw up on your dad's shoes?"

She looked up with wide eyes.

"He didn't!"

I smiled.

"Oh yes he did. Got a month's detention for it. I'm surprised your dad didn't kill him."

She started laughing.

"Remember the time he caught those students in the carriages after the Yule Ball?" I asked her.

She started to laugh harder and I stood up. I knelt in front of her and she smiled at me.

"When your brother wrote your dad that note, telling him we'd had sex, he nearly broke the door to the boy's dormitory. I honestly thought he was going to kill me... or castrate me whatever came to his mind first."

She started laughing again. My plan was working.

"What was your favorite memory of him?" She asked me.

I didn't even have to think about it.

"The day he wiped the floor with Lockheart."

She smiled.

"He actually thought he'd be able to take my father in a fight. I remember even the ones who hated my dad were laughing."

"As I once said, your dad was the king of the dark arts."

"And that I was the princess."

"Exactly."

"I wish you'd seen the look on Dad's face when Lavender came to hospital wing to see Ron."

I arched a brow and smiled.

"OH yeah? Describe it."

She thought for a moment before answering.

"Remember the look on his face when Umbridge was in his class?" I nodded. "It like that but more tired and annoyed."

I laughed as I tried to imagine it. I took her hands in mine.

"I know it still hurts that he's not here. You have to remember how much he loved you."

She smiled sadly and moved off the chair and into my arms.

"I know and I'm trying. I never thought anything could kill him. Dad was always the most powerful wizard in my mind. And I saw him die, I saw and there was nothing I could do."

'I know darling, I know. But he wouldn't want you to be hurting like this. Look at me."

She did as I asked and I stroked her cheek.

"He'll never really be gone. He lives in your heart, in your memories."

She leaned forward and kissed me softly.

"I love you." she told me.

I told her I loved her and a smile came to her face.

"Speaking of Ron... I won the bet."

I chuckled.

"Alright, what do you want?"

She smiled at me.

"I want you. In our bed, with candles and passionate sex."

I smiled and pressed my forehead against hers.

"I'm happy I lost the bet." I told her.

She smirked and kissed me hard. When we separated I stroked her cheek.

"I'm going to make it special. It'll be a surprise."

She chuckled and then hugged me tightly.

"Thank you. Thank you for getting me to think of all the good times I had with dad. I just miss him so much."

"I know darling, I know. But he said he'd always be with you. Snape always kept his promises. He loved you so much, always hold onto that."

"I know. I'm gonna go up to bed."

"I'll be right up."

She kissed me before putting her book down and going upstairs. I waved my wand, putting the fire out and Gypsy looked a little upset.

"Would you rather the house burn down?" I asked.

She ran off and up the stairs.

I love that cat.

She really had her own personality. I went upstairs and heard Lily in the bathroom.

"The cat's mad at me. I turned out the fireplace."

I heard her laugh and it made me smile. I took of my shirt and pulled on pyjama bottoms before sliding under the covers. Gypsy climbed up her little tower and curled up on top. Lily came out braiding her long hair and sat on the edge of the bed. She moved under the covers and I took her in my arms. I slowly stroked her arm.

"Could we... could talk about my dad a little more?"

I smiled and kissed her forehead.

"Of course. Any chance we can talk about how he took out Lockhart?"

She laughed softly.

"Of course. He actually thought he could beat dad. What was it he said? 'You'll still have your potions master when I'm through with him'."

I laughed.

"You couldn't stop laughing. It was one of the rare times I ever saw that man smile. Whenever he looked at you. I wish my father looked at me that way. With pride and love. I remember thinking once that I wished I had a dad like Snape. Not Snape himself but someone who loved their child like he loved you. I think all my father saw me as was the Malfoy heir. Someone to carry on the pureblood line. It doesn't matter anymore. I have a new life with you."

She kissed my chest and I heard the smile in her voice.

"It'll be a good life." she said softly.

"Go to sleep. We're seeing your brother tomorrow and if you look like you haven't been sleeping he's gonna blame me."

She chuckled and took a deep breath like she usually did before she went to sleep.

"I love you, Draco."

"I love you too, Lily."

She kissed my chest softly and said goodnight.

Lily's POV

It helped me a lot when Draco got me to talk about dad. It made things a little easier. Even though I knew it would never be the same without dad there, I had my memories. Every single one was precious, even the bad.

We went to Grimmauld Place where Harry now lived. Kreacher bowed when we walked through the door.

"Welcome back mistress."

"Mistress?"

"You were part of Sirius' will too. We share Kreacher and Buckbeak and the house. But I know you've got your own house. And I know you'd never give it up."

I smiled and hugged my brother tightly.

"Thank you." I said softly.

"He loved you. I'm sorry you lost him. But he's not really gone. You're so much like him. The way you carry yourself, the way you act, and when you're angry you scary just like he was."

I laughed a little and I heard Draco chuckle.

"Damn right. And before you ask, I never mistreated any elf that worked for my family. Dobby... he was a good elf. When he was freed I was happy for him. He didn't deserve to die, especially not like that."

I hugged him tightly.

"It's alright."

"Just don't let him jab me with a fork."

"If master orders it, Kreacher will do it."

I smirked and looked at Harry.

"If he hurts you I'll make him do worse."

"And Kreacher will be happy to do it." said the elf.

"You know I'd never hurt her." he had me face him. "Darling I have a few things I need to do. I'll see you back home, say around seven?"

I nodded and he kissed me softly. He leaned back and nodded to Harry.

"Potter."

"Malfoy."

Draco left after kissing me one more time.

Draco's POV

I didn't tell Lily because I didn't want her to worry. My father's trial was today. I wanted to be there, mostly for my mother. But also because I wanted to see him sent to Azkaban. He may have been scared of Voldemort, but he had no problem doing the horrible things he'd wanted my father to do. I met up with my mother and we went in.

Lily's POV

When I got home, Draco was sitting in the kitchen with a bottle of Firewhisky in his front of him. His eyes were red.

"Draco?"

He looked up. My eyes widened when I saw the cut and bruise on his cheek.

"My father... they didn't send him to Azkaban."

I ran forward and sat down in front of him.

"Did he do this to you?"

My voice was shaking with anger.

"I'm fine."

"Like hell."

I stood up and walked towards the fireplace.

"Lily no!"

"Oh yes! Don't you dare try and stop me!"

His eyes were pleading.

"Please. I don't want him to hurt you too."

"You think I'm gonna let him get away with this?"

"Lily, I'm alright. It's just a bruise it'll go away. Please, please just stay here with me."

I sighed in frustration but gave in.

"Alright. But if he ever does it again, I'll make him wish he was never born."

He smirked and pulled me into his arms.

"I love you."

I smiled and closed my eyes.

"I love you too."

"Come on, I've made dinner reservations. We need to talk about a few things."

I leaned back and looked at him.

"My father said he won't let me use any of his money. Not unless I left you. And nothing in the world could get me to do that. I have money, but not enough to support both of us and a family."

"I have money. Dad left me everything."

"I know but still."

"I've actually been thinking about that too. The old apothecary in Diagon Alley, the owner is too scared to return. Dad and I were his best customers. We could ask if he'd sell the store to us. Keep it running and give him a share of the money."

He smiled.

"That actually sounds like a perfect idea. With your skill we could run the world's greatest apothecary."

I smiled even more and nodded.

"Alright. Alright let's do it."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah."

I kissed him hard and wrapped my arms around his neck. He moved his lips with mine and then leaned back.

"We'll go to dinner and in the morning we'll talk to the store owner."

I nodded and we went for dinner.
