Hermione was nervous and puttering around the house, constantly looking out the window. For the first time ever, she was having a friend around to her house and it was for Christmas.

Peter and Jane Granger were both in the kitchen cooking. Peter just as good in the kitchen as his wife. As the adult Grangers were busy, Nori'Tenos Nar Helios took it upon herself to try and keep Hermione as calm as possible, mostly by keeping her distracted by discussions of how the Migrant Fleet coordinates thousands of ships as they navigated through space. The way Hermione absorbed information and processed it was almost Quarian, in Nori's opinion, and would not be surprised if the girl joined the Systems Alliance when she reached the appropriate age.

When the doorbell rang, nothing could stop the young girl from sprinting to the door and flinging it open. Behind the door stood Harry; an older lady who had been in the shuttle that had picked Harry up from Hogwarts; a young Quarian who was about the same size as Harry and looked vaguely familiar; and a younger Asari, who only came up to Harry's shoulder and had her arm wrapped around Harry's waist.

"Hey." Harry said, nervously rubbing his hand against the back of his head. "Umm… Merry Christmas."

"Merry Christmas, Harry." Hermione replied. "Please come in."

The four of them followed Hermione into the living room where Nori was waiting.

"What are you doing here, little one?" Nori asked in Keelish, the Quarian Language.

"Reli'Herra is here with the approval of both her mother and her Captain." Harry replied, also in Keelish.

"How do you know Keelish?" Nori asked, surprised. "No one outside the Migrant Fleet should speak it."

"I am Harry Shepard Nar Normandy. Tali'Zorah Vas Normandy taught me Keelish." Harry replied in English.

While Harry and Nori had been having their exchange, Leanna had wandered over to Hermione, who was watching Harry and Nori, and began running Hermione's hair between her fingers.

"I like your hair." Leanna said to Hermione, who squeaked in surprise.

"Leanna, you can't just go touching people's hair like that." Hannah scolded.

"Sorry Oma. It's just her hair is so nice. Only Humans and Quarians have hair. I am so jealous." Leanna replied.

"You like my hair?" Hermione asked, shocked. "Wait, Quarians have hair?"

"Yes, we do." A voice said from behind Hermione. "So, you must be Hermione."

Hermione turned and came face to faceplate with the young Quarian. Reli tilted her head to the side and Hermione could tell she was being effectively weighed and measured by the alien girl. She had seen that expression so many times before, from other girls before she went to Hogwarts, which usually ended with a scornful or disgusted look. The young Quarian's luminous eyes briefly flickered over Hermione's shoulder, just before Hermione felt Nori's hand placed comfortingly on her shoulder.

"Thanks for being his friend, and being there for him when I couldn't." Reli said, with genuine appreciation in her voice.

Hermione released the breath she had not been aware she was holding.

"He is a good friend." Hermione replied, to which Reli just nodded.

"Alright everyone, Lunch is ready." Jane Granger announced.

The group made their way to the table, where Peter was putting the last of the food onto the table.

"The brown bottles are Quarian Food." Peter announced.

The group sat and began eating, Reli and Nori imbibing the food in the brown bottles through induction ports in their helmets. Most of the discussion was either inconsequential or about Harry and Hermione's education at Hogwarts.

"So, Nori, how did you end up working at the Granger's Dentist Surgery." Hannah Shepard asked.

"Well, Admiral." Nori said, directly addressing Hannah for the first time.

"It's Hannah, Nori." Hannah interrupted.

"Umm, ok." Nori replied nervously. "Well, to be honest I saw the sign. I knew enough English to know the Dr meant a medical professional but I did not know what Dentist meant. I really wanted to learn how to be a Human Doctor, to heal, and then take that back to the Fleet, and then learn Quarian Medicine to try to improve our immune systems to be more like Humans. Once I learnt about what Dentists really do, well the Grangers had been so good to me that leaving would be like betraying them, and I couldn't do that. Also, I enjoy working at the office and meeting new Humans."

"Nori, why didn't you tell us?" Peter Granger asked. "We would have helped in any way we could. To become Dentists we had to do basic medical training, we could have gotten you started on learning about human anatomy."

"Well, it would have been rude." Nori said, lowering her head.

"Mister and Misses Granger, if I may." Hannah interrupted. "If you can spare Nori two days a week, I think I can help. We have an accelerated Medical Training Program for Alliance Medic Trainees. Following that, there is an advance Medical Program. I have no doubt that if you apply yourself you can effectively complete the Program while still working with the Grangers' office."

Nori's eyes were gleaming with both hope and fear that she was being lied to.

"Nori'Tenos Nar Helios, if my Father's Mother is making an offer, it is real." Harry said in Keelish. "You have my word as Harry Shepard Nar Normandy of Clan Urdnot."

Nori looked between Harry, Hannah and the Grangers for a few minutes. When both Peter and Jane nodded their heads in agreement her eyes gleamed with hope and pride.

"Thank you." Nori said.

"You will do well, Nori." Jane reassured. "But if there are any other issues, or something you want or need, then please talk to us in future."

"I will." Nori said.

You could see the playfulness in Reli's luminous eyes as she gently prodded Nori in the side with her elbow.

Harry steadied his breathing, syncing it to his heartbeat. He took a breath, emptied his lungs, waited for his heart to beat then squeezed the trigger. The sniper rifle fired and down the far end of the underground shooting range a moving target shattered as the round went through the figure's forehead. Leanna was laying next to him wearing a noise cancelling headset as she fiddled with the row of thermal clips in front of her. Reli was sitting behind them, her legs swinging as she watched the Shepard children, focusing more on Harry than Leanna, with the input volume on her helmet turned down a bit.

He had missed this when he was at Hogwarts. Sometimes he needed to get stress out at the range on the Normandy, or the times the cargo bay was set up as an obstacle shooting range. Apart from John Shepard himself, Harry was probably the best all round shooter on the Normandy. Harry had begun his training at age eight, meaning Leanna had two more years before she could be trained if she wanted. It had not been John who had trained Harry though, it had been the others. Garrus and Wrex had taught him how to use an Assault Rifle, with Garrus emphasising ranged accuracy while Wrex showing close in versatility. Wrex and Tali had taught him the Shotgun, Wrex with the direct approach and Tali showing tactics on how to use it with drones and other tech-abilities to herd and contain enemies. Tali and Liara had shown him the pistol, emphasising how to use them to exploit weak spots with accurate fire. Liara had though him how to supress enemies with the rapid fire of a submachine gun and Garrus had taught the 'art' of using a sniper rifle.

Another round fired, another target hit and Harry popped the thermal clip out of the sniper rifle and Leanna handed him a new one, which he loaded into the weapon.

"Kids, dinner." Hannah's voice came over both the comm speaker in the wall and the system incorporated into Leanna's headset.

Harry ejected the unused thermal clip from the weapon and returned it to the weapons cabinet as Leanna removed and stored her headset. Reli and Leanna began to discuss the Christmas event the day before and what they thought of Hermione, Nori and the presents that were exchanged. Harry was just glad that Hermione and Reli got along. He had never worried about Leanna liking Hermione, Leanna liked everyone.

TBC…

A/N: I know some of you are just itching to review and tell me it should be Magazine instead of Clip, but in the canon of Mass Effect, they are officially called Thermal Clips.
