Kryptonian Nights 48

Supergirl is the property of DC comics and the CW. I am borrowing the characters for a little fun and storytelling. After All, what better way to show the love for hero's than to extend their adventures.
The Meet
"Okay, shouldn't be too hard. Just go in and reason with Krenux. After all, he owes you several favors. Shouldn't be hard. Just because he's the Godfather of aliens shouldn't mean anything. Just because you stand against pretty much everything he does shouldn't mean anything." Kara whispered to herself as she smoothed the Tom Ford Chain-Trim Long-sleeved Cady Gown nervously. The diamond earrings, necklace, and ring went well with the Badgley Mischka Libby embellished ankle-wrapped sandals. The three inch heel would definitely be an intimidation factor for most. Now to slip out of her apartment with her wrap and clutch without the DEO or LCorp finding out. Which most days now was hard with how her sister and Lena were keeping an eye on her since her return from the multiverse mission. Kara grabbed her wrap, clutch, and headed down to the car that awaited on the curb. "Thank you Shices for doing this for me." Kara said as a beautiful short haired brunette with onyx eyes and a thin face dressed in a chauffeurs outfit handed Kara into the Lincoln town car.
"I don't think this is a good idea Kara, but I am not letting you go alone tonight. I think you are taking a big risk here. Why not let LCorp or the DEO know what you are going to do?" Shices asked as her forked tail swung around nervously behind her. Kara looked at her from where she was seated and shook her head.
"You and I know Krenux will not deal with them. Should I give his hiding place out then I would forfeit something precious to me. I will not do that." Kara said even as Shices nodded and closed the door. Shices got in the car and off she drove Kara into the depths of the old neighborhoods of National City. Kara gazed out the window chuckling softly. Even as humans moved into more modern surroundings, the alien population had now bought up and moved into the old neighborhoods. National City didn't know how many little cadres there were of alien culture. When Kara had time she attended some of the festivals from different worlds and cultures. Shices called out to Kara.
"We're here. He was expecting you?" Shices asked as two large Rhinnorians waited at the door of the imposing building.
""Do not worry Shices. I let his secretary know I would be coming." Kara informed the young woman. "Find a parking spot. I should be out within the hour." If you see an explosion or shooting happens meet me at the arranged spot. The car slowed and stopped. One of the Rhinnorians opened the door.
"Good evening Kara Zor El. He is awaiting you inside." The Rhinnorian offered his arm and escorted the Kryptonian into the restaurant. Dhalmu was known for its alien spicy food. It could be consumed by aliens and humans alike. It was more upscale, so you were likely to see a higher end clientele or devoted food connoisseurs. Kara was shown through the restaurant to a special off limits dining area. She never saw the four people eating at the shadowed table near a large Plumeria arrangement. The bodyguard stopped asking her to wait momentarily. He stepped through a set of double doors. Kara noticed how everything was similar to the roaring twenties in nature. Krenux definitely had a unique flare. She focused her thoughts on what she was out to accomplish tonight. It would most likely clear out most of her savings and compromise her morals, but she would attain the items she was after.
"Show her in." The large yellow alien, with dark hair who oddly resembled Marlon Brando in the Godfather stood as she entered. He came around the table with a great smile taking her gently by the arms and kissed both cheeks. "Kara! It is so good to see you. You have not visited in a long while. My chefs have been beside themselves thinking they have wounded Supergirl with their cooking."
"Krenux, my friend." She kissed him on the cheek and hugged him softly. "It has been too long. You can assure your chefs they have not warned me off with their cooking. I have been very busy, forgive my tardiness." Kara gently assured the older man.
"Come, sit...sit. Mer'pok, bring the wine and an antipasto." Krenux smiled and seated Kara. Wine was soon poured and a beautiful alien antipasto plate set before the Kryptonian. Krenux motioned that she should serve herself even as bread and olive oil was set on the table. "You honor me with your presence Supergirl. I know we do not see eye to eye on many subjects, but I would like to say I can count on you." The older man smoozed the Girl of Steel. Kara smiled shaking her head.
"You know our differences are greater than most, yet I have grown used to the subtle fight with you." The Girl of Steel replied even as the alien ran his eyes over her in a proprietary manner.
"You have grown into a beautiful woman. I was sorry to hear of the falling out between you and Ms. Luthor." Kara winced and looked down even as Krenux took her free hand. "She should have understood Kara. How could she spurn your love and turn her back on you? Even now I know you still protect her. My informants say they cannot even get close to rough her up." Krenux smirked when he saw the heat of anger rise in her eyes. "No, no. I would do no harm, but to remind her of your continual good on her part." Kara glared at him and he shook his head. "Alas, she still holds your heart. Alright, I will tell them to back off. I do not understand what links you to her, but I do not want to incur your wrath anymore than necessary. Ahh, finally the main course." Plates were cleared and the main course served. Wine glasses filled and still Krenux made polite talk.
"How is your stepmother, Eliza? I heard she was ill recently." Krenux questioned as they both enjoyed their entrees. Kara looked up and shook her head. Nothing ever got past him.
"She is well. It was a minor flu that went into bronchitis. The doctors caught it before it went into pneumonia. Alex stayed with her for a week and then I took a two week break to make sure she rested." Kara replied even as she pondered how she would protect Eliza from Krenux and his minions. The older alien must have seen her worry flit across her features for he was soon responding in reassurance.
"Eliza is safe Kara. I would not attack your mother here on earth. Especially a human mother." Krenux promised as he looked her in the eye allowing his guard down for a moment. Kara waited for a beat and sighed. She could see he was telling her the truth.
"Thank you." Kara acknowledged as she went to finish her food. The Godfather of aliens finished his entree and motioned to a server.
"I see Alex is working out well at the DEO. I am a great deal reassured for the aliens they are taking in now with her in charge. Send her my regards." Krenux smirked as Kara rolled her eyes. It was a subtle joke between them. If Alex ever found out Kara was dining with Krenux at regular intervals there would be hell to pay. The waiter cleared away Kara and Krenux's plates. Dessert was ordered even as the older gentlemen now eyed Supergirl. "Now, you have not come just for the food. I sense there is a greater reason for your presence here. Please, to what do I owe this visit?" Kara gazed on Krenux. There was no way to be subtle about it. She would just need to get it out.
"You have taken something of mine. You have stolen it from the House of El. I would wish it returned immediately." Kara stated firmly and clearly. Krenux's face twisted into confusion as he tried to figure out what he had taken.
"I am not sure of what you speak of Kara Zor El. I would never take anything that belonged to the House of El without first requesting it and giving payment." Krenux stated as he still puzzled over what it could be. Kara opened her clutch and pulled out a piece of paper. She slid it upside down across the table. Krenux picked it up and looked at the picture. His eyes widened in alarm knowing he would suffer a great wrath for what was before him.
"I would like my family returned immediately." Kara's cold, firm voice brooked no argument. The older gentleman began to speak before being abruptly cut off. "DO not misunderstand me Krenux. I will utterly destroy the person who holds my family. Kara leaned forward now as her eyes began to glow. "I will turn them and all they own, all their familial ties, and all their wealth to ash. I will not rest till they are utterly wiped from existence and memory. I swear by Rao on this!" Kara leaned back as she watched a bead of sweat fall down the side of Krenux's brow.
"I did not know Kara Zor El that she was family. Give me a moment." Krenux slid back from the table and stepped away to speak to two of his associates nearby. Kara scanned the restaurant while he was away now noticing there four people in the main dining area she did not want to run into. She also noticed that Krenux was arguing with one of his associates quite vehemently. She heard part of the conversation…"Boss, if we return her then we are going to be out a great deal of money from the buyer." "Fine, then I will tell Supergirl you would not return her and allow her to turn all of your wealth and family to ash." Kara watched the minion blanch and tremble. "Bring her immediately. And find out who screwed up and didn't make the connection between Sueprgirl and her. Go now." The minion moved away quickly and Krenux moved back to the table. "She will be here within the hour. You have my deepest, sincerest apologies. I did not know she was family." Kara nodded even as her dark molten chocolate cake was set before her with a side of Vanilla bean ice cream. Kara's eyes glimmered in excitement at the dessert.
"There is one other thing I am here about." Kara mentioned as she took a bite of the deep, rich chocolate and moaned in ecstasy. "Roa, Udrad makes such an excellent chocolate cake. I wish this was something I could eat every day." Krenux smiled thinking maybe he had got off lucky this time.
"She does have 'the touch' with desserts doesn't she." Krenux exclaimed even as he ate a small piece of his rich chocolate cake. He was still a little unnerved that they had taken Supergirl's family member. He would definitely see that the person who had kidnapped the girl would be punished. While he may be at odds with Supergirl about many things, this was one he would not have on his conscience. "What other thing are you here about?"
"I would like to have the interstellar transport ray that Lena Luthor was working on returned. I understand there is a great market for it, however, your thief stole it before it was completed and in the state it is now any transported item or person would be turned to goo." Kara warned the older man. He stared at her for a good long time.
"Any return of such an item would be costly. A buyer may have been found if I had such an item." Krenux stated as he took another bite of his cake and reached for his coffee after.
"If perhaps, the item in question was attainable what would be the cost?" Kara inquired as the older gentlemen stirred his coffee with a small spoon contemplating the rich dark liquid. He set his coffee cup down and looked Kara Zor El in the eyes.
"Five hundred million and one night with you." Krenux informed the young woman. Kara went to say something, but was cut off. "No, there is no negotiating. This is the price. There are no copies of the interstellar transport ray. This is a one time and one time only offer. Either accept or decline. The money must be here by the end of the meal. The night must happen at the dark of the moon on this Saturday. If you shirk the meeting, I will kill Lena Luthor." Krenux promised the Super. Kara looked at the gentlemen. He was not ugly and it would not be the first time she had used her body in this way. She preferred women, but he was known to be a skilled lover. Kara took his hand and kissed the palm.
"Agreed." Kara leaned back finishing her cake and coffee even as Krenux smirked in victory. "Now where is my family member?" The godfather held his hand up and snapped his fingers. Two Rhinnorians brought in Ruby Arias. She was dirty, her shirt torn in places, and there were bruises on her face and arms. Kara's eyes glowed in anger.
"The little cunt tried to escape. We had to cuff her about a little." One of the Rhinnorians stated even as Kara rose and grabbed his hand squeezing it tightly. Krenux could hear the bones popping in the Rhinnorians hand.
"If you ever touch her again I will pulverize each and every one of your bones into dust slowly! Do you understand?" Kara growled in anger at the minion. The Rhinnorian nodded as tears ran down his face and he cried out. Kara shoved him away and reached out to Ruby. The girl was dazed and from what Kara could see might have a concussion. Yet, Ruby moved quickly into her side.
"I have kept my end of the bargain. Now keep yours Kara Zor El." Krenux rose from the table handing Kara a small monetary transfer machine. "All it needs is your thumb print for the money to transfer." Kara held Ruby with one hand and placed her right thumb on the reader. There was a moment of silence and then a green light affirming the money had been transferred. "Thank you Kara Zor El for your honor. A car will pick you up Saturday at nine in the evening. You will be returned to your apartment by noon the following day. Please make sure there are no interruptions to this night. The Interstellar Transport Ray will be returned tonight." The older gentleman approached the Super and took her hand placing a soft kiss on it. "It is always a pleasure doing business with you." Kara nodded as she picked Ruby up in a bridal hold, Krenux placed her wrap around her shoulders and placed the clutch in Rubys lap. "My car awaits you outside. It will take you wherever you wish. No questions asked." Kara was shown out a side door. She and Ruby were quickly whisked away to four blocks away where Shices waited for her with the town car. Shices quickly got Kara and Ruby transferred and roared down the road.
"So you were successful in your hunt. What did it cost you?" Shices asked as she made two quick turns heading toward the DEO. She looked in the rearview mirror to see Ruby Arias cuddled tightly into Kara's chest and neck, softly crying. Kara whispered words of soft comfort to the young Arias. Kara kissed her niece's forehead as the anger simmered in her over the young one's abduction and beating.
"Nothing, but my dignity." Kara confided in her chauffeur. Kara picked up her cell phone and dialed Alex's number.
"Alex, make sure Samantha is at the DEO. I have Ruby. We are ten minutes away." Kara informed her sister. "We need a medical team. I think she has a concussion." Kara hung up before her sister could respond.
3 hours later…
"She is amazingly resilient. She has a mild concussion. One cracked rib and several cuts and bruises. She will need to speak to a therapist for her emotional and mental than that she is fine. I expect you will be able to take her home tomorrow morning. We'd like to keep her here overnight. If you have any questions or need anything, please let me know. Should she have severe pain in her head, start running fever, hallucinate, or you cannot wake her, bring her back immediately. I don't expect any of those complications though." The DEO doctor explained to Samantha, Alex, Kelly, and Lena as they stood in front of him in the hallway. Brainy, Nia, and J'onn stood nearby as Kara listened from inside Ruby's room. Kara leaned over and kissed Ruby on the forehead.
"This will not happen again my little one. The House of El has extended its protection over you and your mother. I am sorry you were hurt and I could not get to you quick enough." Kara hugged Ruby as the young girl opened her eyes.
"Thank you. I know what you have done to protect me. To protect Lena and my mother. I do not wish you to go with him." Ruby whispered as she smiled softly and shook her head.
"Do not worry about that my little one. Rest now. May Roa watch over you in your dreams." Kara whispered even as Ruby slipped into sleep. Kara tucked Ruby's hair behind her ear checking the small cut just below it. She really wanted to pulverize the Rhinorians to little bits, but that would be wrong. "Shices, are you still there?" Kara called over her comms as she stood to full height.
"Yes, Kara." Shices responded as she sat straighter in the car where she waited.
"Head home, there is an envelope in the glove box for your services tonight. I'm taking the express way home." Kara responded even as she turned to Ruby's room door opening. Samantha entered with Lena next to her.
"Alright, if you need me Saturday. Just let me know." Shices dropped off the comms. Kara went to leave the room as Samantha intercepted her.
"I don't know how you found her, but thank you Kara. Thank you." Samantha grabbed the Kryptonian hugging her tightly. Sam cried softly even as Lena checked on Ruby. Kara looked toward Lena and then back to Sam.
"It was nothing. Just so you know this will not happen again from this person. You and Ruby are under the protection of the House of El. They did not know this. They do now. If you will excuse me." Kara stepped back out of Sam's embrace and moved out into the hall. She headed for the balcony.
"Supergirl, we need a debrief." Director Danvers stated as Kara moved past her toward the balcony. Kara turned, halting for a moment.
"There will be no debrief." Kara then moved to the balcony and took off. She arrived home hours into the early morning after tiring herself out in one of the Fortresses gyms. She turned on her phone to find twenty missed calls from Alex, ten texts from her sister, fourteen from J'onn, and two from Lena. She ignored them all and went to bed. She woke a few hours later to her alarm. Kara rose looking at the time and laying in her bed staring at the ceiling. Saturday, she needed to ready herself for tonight. First, some coffee. When she stepped out from behind the screen that blocked off her bedroom she was surprised to find Lena and Alex on the couch sleeping. Kara shook her head and moved to the kitchen. She had just started the coffee when there was a knock on her door. Kara used her xray vision. There was a delivery man with a large box. Kara went and opened the door.
"Ms. Kara Zor El?" The delivery man asked as he looked at his delivery pad. Kara nodded even as he handed her the pad. "Sign here please." Kara signed and took the box. The delivery man sprinted off to deliver other packages. Kara brought the box inside, setting it on the kitchen bar. She untied and opened the box to reveal a beautifully expensive midnight blue dress, Manolo blahnik shoes, a clutch, wrap, and jewelry for the night. Even La Perla matching underwear sets. Kara grabbed the envelope in the center and pulled out the card.
"I promise this will be a night to remember. Please accept these small gifts for our night together.
Sincerely,
K
"Whoa! Who is this from?" Alex's voice resounded in her ear even as Kara reached to close the box. Alex moved back as Kara muscled her way around her sister and took the box to her bedroom. She placed it on her bed and returned to her kitchen where Alex was drinking a cup of coffee now with Lena. "Forget to tell us something Kara?" Alex said as she waved the envelope and card Kara had dropped at her sister.
"None of your concerns Alex. Just a night out." Kara said as she poured herself a cup of coffee. "How is Ruby? She is okay, right? So what are you two doing here?" Kara knew of course, but wasn't going to let them know anything until she wanted it to be known. Which right now may be never.
"Yes, Ruby is fine. Still a little unsettled like anyone would be, but she is going to be fine. Samantha took her home to their Penthouse. Interestingly, The Interstellar Transport Ray showed up at LCorp this morning. No one knows how it got there. Seems it just appeared out of nowhere. There was a card attached. A card very much like the one Alex is holding that was for you." Lena asserted as Kara looked up with confusion on her features.
"Really? Hmmm, I guess there are people out there with good taste. Obviously more than one." Kara said vaguely as she stared at her sister and friend.
"It was addressed to Supergirl." Lena tartly responded slamming the letter down. Kara reached for the letter only to have it yanked away by the CEO. "Did you steal my Interstellar Transport Ray?"
"May I know what the card says?" Kara asked Lena who huffed impatiently. Lena handed it to Kara, who read it and burst out laughing. Both Alex and Lena stared at her angrily.
Supergirl,
Truly appreciate the bargaining session. You are a tough nut. I still think you are making a mistake with the Luthor, but the course of love and all that. Remember the last part of the deal.
Godfather
"Sorry, sorry." Kara said as she finished her coffee and walked to the bedroom.
"Kara, I want an explanation." Lena yelled as Kara dressed in a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, and socks. She threw on her tennis shoes and pulled her hair into a ponytail. She grabbed her glasses and walked out from the bedroom.
"I bought it back from the people who stole it. It's that simple." Kara said as she grabbed a jacket from the nearby door. "I made sure there were no copied schematics also. Your intellectual property is safe. Now I have to go. I have a date to get ready for. If you want to talk, stop by tomorrow evening with dinner." Kara walked out the door and took the steps down. Lena and Alex were left with their mouths hanging open. Kara walked to a nearby Cafe and ordered her usual. She decided to stay in the booth toward the back even as Alex and Lena slid in opposite of her.
"No, you are not going to avoid us. I don't know how you did it, but you were able to get Ruby back and Lena's technology. You told Ruby that she was safe from those who took her. She said she was under your protection, Kara, as well as Samantha." Alex reached across the table grabbing her sister's hand before she took a drink or escaped. "Kara, we aren't the bad guys. But you are treating us as them. What is going on?"
"I can't tell you Alex. Just know that I used my connections and fixed things. There are some things I can't tell." Kara whispered softly hoping her sister understood. Lena was having none of it.
"More lies. More secrets. You say you want to be my friend, but you won't tell us this easy thing." Lena accused Kara angrily. Kara turned on Lena.
"What about you? What are you creating to help control alien kind? Have you taken any military contracts? What environmental inventions are you working on?" Kara aggressively asked Lena leaving the CEO trying to formulate an answer. "I can't tell you everything because it's complicated and there are people involved who could be hurt if I told you. Just know this, I have made sure your invention is back and Ruby is safe." Alex had listened carefully gleaning more out of the conversation. So she began to formulate some answers she didn't like.
"Tell me about your date? Since we cannot talk about what happened last night." Alex gently cajoled her sister watching her body expression and facial features attempting to glean any information.
"I can't tell you much. It's a night to have some fun and I don't know what's planned until we head out. I will let you know tomorrow night though." Kara attempted to persuade her sister this wasn't anything more than a fun date. Alex could see that her sister was tense and there was some anxiety.
"Well, tell me what she is like?" Alex questioned knowing that Kara wouldn't go out with just any lady. Lena was listening intently now. It almost seemed like she was angry about Kara's date. Kara knew her sister was attempting to figure out if the date was connected to what had happened.
"Well, he is a pretty nice gentleman. He's kind and has a good sense of humor. He's also slightly older than me." Kara explained to her sister who looked flummoxed. She knew that Kara liked women more. So for her to say she was going out with a man was a little bit shocking. "Listen, I appreciate your interest, but I have some things I need to get done before my date. So if we can forestall this till tomorrow night I would be happy."
"Kara, I just want to know a little about your date. You haven't mentioned seeing anyone. So that you're going on a date with a gentleman says a great deal. It says a lot that he is an older gentleman. I am worried. You have been so closed since you returned from the mission to Barry's Earth." Alex entreated her sister. Lena also looked curious as to what was going on. Kara sighed and attempted to reassure her sister and her former friend.
"I promise there is nothing to worry about. We will talk about everything tomorrow evening. But Alex, there are some things I won't share with you. They are personal and private. Even you and Lena have these things. Be patient. I will talk with you tomorrow." Alex held Kara's eyes trying to discern what was not being said.
"Alright, but tomorrow evening we talk. Really talk." Alex said squeezing her sister's hand. Kara nodded. She looked toward Lena. She could tell the CEO was not happy, but she nodded.
"I can wait till tomorrow. But I want more of an explanation." Lena stated to her friend. Kara nodded and then drank her coffee.
Saturday Morning...
Kara woke slowly as the sun shone through the window. She felt Krenux move next to her leaving a kiss on her shoulder. She felt the mattress next to her bend as he left the bed and went into the restroom. She briefly opened her eyes and smiled. She had hook ups over the years, especially in college. Last night was nice. She had arrived at a beautiful Luxury Loft apartment. She had been shown to the roof where a beautiful gourmet dinner had been set up. They had talked about different places they had been in the Universe, places they wished they had seen, and what they liked about earth. Soon, they had danced for a couple of hours just enjoying the time. Eventually it had led to the bedroom. Krenux was definitely a skilled lover as Kara had found out, but even more Krenux had found that Kara Zor El was an experienced lover. The sound of the shower stopped even as Kara rolled over to see Krenux step out with only a towel around his waist. He saw she was awake and smiled as he walked toward the bed.
"Good Morning." He whispered as he ran his hand along the side of her cheeks. "I hope you feel okay this morning." Kara reached up and pulled him down giving a soft kiss to his lips. When they broke the kiss both smiled.
"I feel wonderful. Thank you for last night. Thank you for returning Lena's device and my family member." Kara whispered back to Krenux. He kissed her forehead and smiled brightly.
"I am happy to be of service. I'm happy we could have last night." Krenux spoke softly as Kara could see something in his eyes. "I would ask that we could continue to see each other Kara Zor El. I would ask that you become my partner and we see where this could go." Kara held his cheek softly. She could see in another time and another place they would be good together. But her heart belonged to Lena. Even if Lena rejected her. She could never give Krenux everything. Not because their morals were opposite of the other, but because her heart was not hers to give anymore. He saw it too. "No, don't say anything. I can see another owns your heart. Just know this Kara Zor El I can wait. We both will outlive her. I will wait."
"I would not have you suffer that way. I would tell you to search for another." Kara whispered as a tear fell from her eye. Krenux caught the tear between his fingers and gently rubbed his fingers back and forth in the wetness. He placed it to his lips.
"Anyone else would pale next to you. Know that if you need my help you just need to ask." Kara nodded as she acknowledged his words. He kissed her once more. "Get dressed and we will have breakfast. Shices will take you home. She has waited near the car all night. You have a loyal protector in her. I would ask how you befriended an Erinyes. They are normally only known to spread chaos and vengeance."
"It's a long story. Maybe another time?" Kara implored her lover. Krenux held her eyes for a moment attempting to persuade her. He finally gave up.
"Another time." He kissed her and rose to dress. She rolled over sighing and got up. She went to the restroom to shower not looking to put on her formal clothing again, but it couldn't be helped. There was a knock on the door as she was finishing. She opened the glass door to the shower to find Krenux formally dressed. He reached forward and settled a last kiss on her lips. "Breakfast is ready on the patio. There's a change of clothes on the bed. I have to run as there was a problem last night with a family member. Feel free to take your time. I will miss you Kara Zor El. You have made an impression on me." He smiled and then left. Kara laughed softly and readied herself for the day.
Dinner that evening…
"Alright, It's time to tell all.." Alex said even as Kelly and Lena topped their wine glasses. Alex handed Kara two more slices of pizza. The Super's kitchen counter was covered in pizza, fruit tray, vegetable tray, and a chocolate tray courtesy of Lena. "Don't lie to us. Ruby told her mother you made a deal with the man that had taken her. One I am not happy about. Who took Ruby? What happened on the date?" Lena curled her legs below her as Kelly leaned back to listen. Kara stood up ignoring the food and walked over to the windows. She stared out into the night wondering how much she should say. Lightning flashed far out to sea as storms were predicted later that night.
"I know you are afraid to tell Alex and Lena what's going on. I would remind you Kara we all love you. Even Lena if she is a little angry with you still." Kelly spoke softly as the Super turned to see them all waiting. "We will listen." Kara waited a few more seconds and seemed to come to a decision.
"When Ruby disappeared I put out notice to the alien community that I was looking for her. I also let it be known quietly she was under my protection. Several alien acquaintances let me know that she may have been taken without a certain person realizing she was my family." Kara explained to the women. Alex's face scrunched up as she was beginning to connect the dots. The picture that was forming was not a good one.
"So, it is true that you have let the alien community know Sam, Ruby, and I are family." Lena asked, not totally understanding why Kara would do that. She took a slow sip of her wine as she tried to figure out what Kara would get out of that information being shared.
"It extends protection around you , Eliza, Kelly, and several others here that are Super friends. It's a double edged sword. It can protect you and endanger you." Kara informed them all watching Alex nod in affirmation to that.
"You took a big risk for Ruby." Alex said wondering what was not being said. Kara looked at her sister letting a little more into her eyes than she should. Alex started rising quickly from the couch. "Who? Who took Ruby?"
"Someone who knew she was part Kryptonian. Someone who wanted to use her DNA to create a possible superhuman for themselves. Someone who was part of Krenux's organization." Kara answered as she grabbed her drink while Alex fumed angrily and Lena even moved to a sitting position.
"Oh No! Dont! Don't you dare tell me Kara that you made a deal with the evil man." Alex barked at her sister. Even as Kara raised her eyes in anger.
"How dare you tell me what I can and cannot do? The DEO had no idea where Ruby was located. None of your supposed spies knew anything. She is family, Alex! She and Sam have a right to live in a safe world as best they can. I was not about to let my niece be stolen, bought by evil men and sold into slavery or medical experiementation only to find her body years later dead, labeled as a Jane Doe!" Kara yelled back at her sister, her entire body flush with anger as she slammed down her drink. "I made a deal which got her back before she could be passed off and Lena's device returned. Ruby was only hours away from being traded. If she had been I would never have been able to find her nor would you. I told you before I would do anything to protect our family. Those are not just words to me." Kara turned as her anger caused her eyes to start glowing. She took several breaths only to have Kelly rise and move forward to place her hands on Kara's shoulders.
"Easy. Easy Kara. Just calm down. Slow easy breaths." Kelly whispered as Kara took a moment to get herself under control. Kara brought her right hand up and grabbed Kelly's left on her shoulder squeezing it softly. Kelly leaned forward giving her a hug from behind. "We love you. Calm down and let us know when you are ready to continue." Kara nodded as Kelly let her go and went to Alex. She could hear Kelly whispering to Alex softly. She felt another presence behind her and smelled Lena's perfume.
"Thank you." Lena said softly as she stepped closer. "Can I hug you Kara?" Kara nodded even as Lena stepped forward and wrapped her arms around the Super squeezing her as tight as she could. Lena could feel the tension leave Kara's back and shoulders. Lena turned Kara around to see tears running down her face. "No, don't cry. Come on. I get it. Alex may not, but I get it. You do what you have to for family."
"Lex." Kara whispered to Lena as the CEO nodded in acknowledgement. The memory of Lena curing Lex's cancer not too long ago and then everything tail spinning out of control coming to the forefront of Kara's mind. "It's okay. I understand too." Kara wrapped her arms around Lena. While the two spoke softly Alex finally calmed down enough from Kelly's whispered conversation. Lena let go of Kara and wiped her eyes. There was an understanding between the two that hadn't been there before. Lena moved back to the couch. Kara turned toward her sister and Kelly.
"I claimed Ruby under the protection of the House of El. She was returned immediately when they realized they had made a major error. The interstellar transport ray was a little more difficult. I worked it out." Kara said, making sure she didn't say anything more. Lena looked her in the eyes trying to discern how it was worked out.
"Tell me about the date." Lena probed not letting the Kryptonians' eyes go. Kara didn't want to, but something in Lena's look said if she didn't tell her this would be the end of them.
"I promised a night together in return for the ray." Kara breathed out, never letting her eyes waver from Lena. She would do anything for the young Luthor.
"Kara." Lena's breath whooshed out of her. "I would never…"
"I know. I know. But I also knew how hard you've been working on this device. How much hope it would provide. I also knew how dangerous it is." Lena's eyes widened at Kara's statement sending doubt into her eyes. "No, dangerous as if it fell into the wrong hands. I knew you hadn't finished it. Can you imagine if they tried to transport someone and that person arrived in a pile of goo. You would have been heartbroken Lena. I couldn't let them use your device for ill. I had to get it back to you."
"Oh Kara, I would never have asked you to pay that price. Never." Lena choked out, shaking her head. Kara reached forward and laid her hand on Lena's cheek for the first time in months.
"For you it was worth it." Kara whispered even as she wiped away Lena's tears. "He didn't hurt me Lena. Just think of it as a one night stand. He was gentle and careful. He was a gentleman. It was okay. All except for who I wanted it to be with." Kara's eyes widened as she realized what she had said at the end. She hadn't meant to tell Lena. Kara, however, never wavered even as Lena saw the truth.
"Kara." Lena said even as the Super took a risk and kissed Lena softly. When she broke the kiss she shook her head as Lena went to speak.
"When you are ready. Not ?" Lena sighed and hugged her tightly. Alex cleared her throat to interrupt them and ask some questions. Kara took one last look at Lena to reassure her till she turned from Lena's spot on the couch. Kara turned to her sister to answer her questions.
"You slept with Krenux." Alex bluntly asked her sister.
"Yes." Kara affirmed. "Amazingly, it is probably one of the best nights I have ever had. He is an accomplished lover." Kara stated as she moved away from Lena to pour herself a glass of wine.
"You paid him five hundred million for Lena's device." Alex pointedly asked her sister. Lena's eyes widened in shock even as Kelly's face reflected shock also. Kara looked questioningly at her sister trying to figure out how she had learned about the money. She then remembered Ruby had been present. "How did you get five hundred million?" Alex asked as she continued to interrogate Kara.
"Kal and I have taken steps so that we will not be without resources. You were the one that said it Alex. We don't know how long I will live. I will need to disappear at some point because I will not age. While Lena's facial device allows me to show aging I will have to die to the public sometime. So plans have been made for that to happen." Alex rose from where she sat even as she scrubbed her hand across her face. Kelly and Lena drank from their wine glasses as they thought about all that had been revealed. Her sister was aggravated and frustrated. Kara wondered if it was because Kara had solved this problem without her or the solution she had come too.
"One last thing. Who is Shices?" Alex demanded as she stepped toward her sister. "Ruby said she had a forked tail, brunette short hair and light purple skin. Ruby was quite entranced by her." Kara chuckled softly even as her hand rubbed the back of her neck.
"Yeah, Shices is an Erinyes." Kara commented even as Kelly looked up in surprise.
"Kara, how did you get one of them as a friend. They are only spoken of in mythology." Kelly asked excitedly even though she knew they were a force to be feared.
"What? What are Erinyes?" Alex asked even as Lena looked on curiously.
"They are what is known as the furies. They normally take out vengeance particularly…" Kelly's eyes blew wide open as she looked at Kara and then to Lena. "Oh Shit, Kara."
"What? " Lena asked as she looked nervously from Kara to Kelly.
"Furies were concerned with homicide, unfilial conduct, offense against the gods, and perjury." Kelly stated as she looked at Kara again. Alex rose off the chair where she had sat down and moved toward her sister. She looked at Lena with anger.
"You sent a Fury after my sister for lying to you?" Alex growled out, but Kara intercepted her. Lena looked totally confused and scared now.
"No, Alex. No. Lena didn't send the furies after me." Alex calmed down some as she grabbed a hold of her sister. Kara shook her head attempting to placate her sister with just enough information, but not tell her everything. "Please calm down. I know you're not happy about this. But it wasn't Lena."
"Kara, don't lie to me." Alex begged her sister. Kara looked her in the eye.
"Lena did not send them after me. Lex did." Kara's words were like a bomb going off in the room. It took Kara a good twenty minutes to calm down the three women.
"Lex!" Alex yelled as she turned on Lena. Anger and pain filling her. She wanted to strike out at Lena. She wanted to hurt the woman. Lena had saved Lex and everything since then had gone down hill.
"Oh God. No, no, no, no." Lena couldn't believe it as she stumbled over to the windows and braced her hand on the frame. She couldn't believe it. When they finally had him locked away. When he could do no more harm. Once more he had done something to the Super's that probably could never be erased. Suddenly, they all turned toward Kelly.
"Ohhhh!" Kelly looked up at Kara her hand held over her mouth as she realized something that had not been shared except between her and Kara. "Those three weeks you came to me. When you were confused, hearing voices, angry all the time, wanted to seek vengeance on...when you tried…" Kelly looked up at Kara realizing what she had said out loud. Apologizing to Kara with just a look. Kara forgave her in that moment. Alex grabbed her sister, turning Kara to face her.
"What is Kelly talking about? What three weeks? Kara please." Alex demanded as Kara looked toward the ceiling. This is why she wanted this kept quiet. It just opened a bigger can of worms.
"Calm down, please." Kara urged everyone present. "Please sit. I can explain, but I need you to calm down."
"Why didn't you tell us? Kara?" Lena demanded of her friend even as Kara tried to explain. The Super took a long deep breath and let it go.
"Alright, everyone sit." Once they were all sitting Kara sat in one of the chairs that faced the couch where Alex, Kelly, and Lena sat. She rubbed her hands on her jeans as she tried to figure out what to say. "Five months ago, when I was still estranged from Lena and Alex you didn't know I was Supergirl I had a visit from the Erinyes. For three weeks Allecto, Megaera, and Tisiphone visited me. You could say for three weeks if it hadn't been for Kelly and another person who shall remain nameless," But Kara could see Harley Quinn clear as day in her eye and the things she had done with her. "I would not be here now. I would not be the person you see before you now." Kara rose as she was nervous about the next part. She walked back and forth in front of the chair explaining. "I was eventually cleared by the Godly council, but with a caveat. I was required to take on a protegee for a while. So I did. Shices was assigned to me. She became a good friend. She is now on her own, but we remain close."
"How did you treat Kara?" Alex demanded from her girlfriend. Lena looked to Kelly, her stomach rolling on how Lex had played them all. Kelly looked to Kara who nodded her approval.
"Kara came to me. Confused, angry, hearing voices, and lashing out. She spent those three weeks working with me while we investigated what it could be. I even got Brainy to sneak us into the DEO so we could talk with the Alura AI. We thought she might have an alien type schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. But Alura ruled those out for Kryptonians. We finally got a break when we made inquiries with Kate. She talked with Diana and Diana was able to confirm some godly issues." Kelly explained as Alex stopped her.
"Who's Kate? Who is Diana?" Alex asked as Kelly looked up at Kara once more.
"It can't be helped. They will figure it out in the future." Kara said as she finished her glass of wine and poured another for herself.
"Kate is Batwoman. Diana is Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman got us in touch with the Greek gods who helped Kara straighten everything out." Kelly finished as her face took on a puzzled look. She turned to Kara. "You know you never did tell me how you straightened everything out."
"Hera was pretty helpful. So was Artemis." Kara turned around to finish her drink. She was not sharing those two days with anyone. The trial in front of the furies had been taxing. "So now you know. I need more pizza. Maybe some chocolate." The other three women just sat there contemplating everything they learned.
"How much don't we know?" Alex finally asked as she rose to refill her glass and grab some pizza. Kara had just finished a piece when her sister came to stand next to her. Kara huffed and shook her head.
"Alex I love you. How much do I not know about the DEO? Then ask yourself why I don't know." Kara responded, her head tilted to the side to watch her sister.
"Okay, I get that. Just..how much Kara?" Alex begged her sister worried she would never be able to protect her. Kara set her pizza slice down and pulled her sister into a hug.
"Forty percent probably. Maybe more if you really want to know everything that went on during your mind wipe." Kara said, releasing her sister. "I can't be sure. Times a funny thing when you're trying to work with godly beings." Kara grabbed a plate and loaded it with pizza and chocolate. Lena and Kelly got up and refilled their glasses. They filled a plate and returned to their seats. Alex came in and sat next to Kelly. They were all quiet for a time.
"I don't like that you slept with Krenux. I don't like that you and Clark are planning for your deaths and new identities. I don't like that you are working with godly beings and that godly beings are messing with you. I don't like knowing…" Alex fell silent for a moment. She pulled herself together and looked her sister in the eyes. "That in trying to protect you I failed you." Kara set her pizza down and moved to her sister. She knelt down in front of her.
"I need you to hear me Alex. So please look at me." Alex raised her head from where it had dropped after she had said her peace to Kara. "You have never failed me Alex. You have always protected me, encouraged me, and been there for me. I had to grow up sometime."
"You shouldn't have to do what you have done." Alex's broken whisper told Kara much.
"How about you Alex? How many things have you done like this to protect me over the years? Please, let's not forget Maxwell Lord." Alex looked into her sister's eyes. "Super hearing." Alex looked shocked for a moment and then broke out laughing. Kara laughed alongside her.
"You slept with Maxwell Lord?" Lena asked Alex. Alex nodded as she placed her hand on Kara's cheek. "You'd be amazed what men will say after, during pillow talk. Rao, I'm sorry Kara. I'm so sorry."
"It's okay." Kara got up and turned on the television. "Let's watch something."
"Can we watch the British Baking Show and just chill?" Lena asked as Kara flipped to it on Netflix. Kara flopped back next to Lena. They all started watching and making comments every once in a while.
"I'm sorry. I'll return the money to you." Lena whispered softly as Kara rolled her head along the back of the couch to look at her friend. Lena was cuddled under a blanket and leaning toward Kara.
"No need. I'm good. Your good. We are all good now." Kara whispered back as she watched Alex and Kelly talk quietly. She could tell her sister wasn't happy about all this, but she also knew Kelly would force Alex to think and work it out inside.
"Why Kara?" Lena asked one more time. Kara looked back at her with those crystal blue eyes that sparkled in the light.
"I told you before. I would do anything for love." Lena stared at the Super for a few moments. She leaned forward and kissed Kara's cheek.
"Thank you." Lena whispered as she wrapped her arms around Kara's arm and cuddled into the Super to watch the movie. Supergirl smiled. That was all she really needed from Lena.
