chapter 4: a fight

As shadow walked through the forest, he felt the peace of the forest overcome him. he had a predicament. Pinkie pie's birthday was coming real soon, and he had no idea what to give her.

He soon found himself as Zecora's hut. Yet again his wondering had sent him here. Where everything started.

He herd the humming of a busy twilight inside. 'wonder what she's here for.'

"hey." Shadow slowly walked in, his voice sounding quite tired. "hello fellow shadow." Zecora was the first to reply. "hi shadow." Twilight waved. "hey zecora. Hey, twilight." He paced around the room anxiously. it was apparent that shadow had something on his mind, so the ponies let him to it. After a bit, shadow had slowed down to look at what twilight was doing. She was in the zone, quills, scrolls, and books strewn around her. She was writing something when she noticed shadow's gaze on her paper.

"if you're wondering," twilight levitated the piece of parchment closer to shadow. "I'm trying to write a spell that will get you all home." Shadow nodded, and twilight put it down. "it's harder than what I anticipated." "so, what brings you here?" She stood up, and organized her things. "well, you know that pinkie pie's birthday is coming up." Twilight nodded. "But I don't know what to get her! And it's driving me crazy!" Shadow was being to get stressed again. " you should get her something that means more. Something no pony has given her before." Zecora weighed in, as she passed them to put bottles up on a shelf. "I know, but what should that be exactly? This is something new to me, and I want what she gets to be special!" Zecora had pulled up a chair for shadow to sit on, and slinked onto the seat. Suddenly, twilight got an idea.

"give her yourself." Shadow looked up at her in surprise. "I'm sure she doesn't mind you not getting a present for her. after all, you were technically an early birthday present for her." He was quiet for a moment. "you're right." shadow said, standing up. "besides," twilight gave shadow a side hug. "I think your love for her will do just fine." Shadow blushed at the comment, but returned twilight's gesture.

Outside, however, this action can be seen as something else.

Shadow walked back to Sugarcube corner, unprepared for pinkie's rage.

"Pinkie. I'm home." It was unusually quiet in the bakery. "pinkie?" He closed the door behind him, and walked to and up the stairs. "Are you home?" When he got to her bedroom, he found her laying down on her bed, mane and tail straight, fiddling with what it appeared to be a... kitchen knife? "pink..."

Pinkie jumped up straight from her slumped position. Her expression turned sour, and she picked up the knife with her mouth. "you...""how could you!?" She turned around and almost pounced on shadow. He dogged it, and gasped at her. "pinkie! What are you doing?" She pointed the knife at him. Shadow gulped, and moved backwards. His hand was on the balcony's door knob. "you're-acting like I do!" Pinkie pinned his arms with her hooves. "if you're going to betray us like that, than you can leave." Before he could ask what, pinkie pie bucked him through the glass doors, shattering them, and shadow flew backwards, so far in fact, he landed on the ground. Shadow looked up in guilt, eyes wide with shock. Some ponies were standing by, shocked to see what just happened. Pinkie looked at him from her balcony. "I never want to talk to you again!" She turned and walked back to her room.

Shadow's eyes started to water. He slowly stood up. He closed his eyes. He didn't even have enough courage to look up. Shadow turned, and skated away, now starting to cry silently. I saw everything. No one knew what was going on, not even them. I had to try to talk them. Even if I can get to only one of them. I looked up to sugarcube corner. Pinkie's first.

I entered her room. "pinkie?" she laying down on her bed, bawling. I looked over to her balcony, glass shattered everywhere. I saw a broom in the corner of her room. I picked it up, and went over to the balcony to sweep up the glass. I was silent as pinkie's cries seemed to echo in her room. When I was finished, I walked over to her. "what did you see exactly?" She sniffled and looked up at me. "he, he's... HE'S CHEATING ON ME!" She started crying again, and I shook my head. I sat next to her. "are you sure about that?" Pinkie pie blinked, and stared at me. "what do you mean?" I put my hand on her back.

"shadow knows it's your birthday soon. And he goes to zecora's when he's stressed. "Why would he care so much about you so much, if you think he's cheating?" Pinkie pie wiped her eyes and thought about it. Then, she gasped. "he's still embarrassed to say that we're together. That's why he has blushing when..." Her eyes welled up again. She started to cry quietly. "it's... all my fault..." I frowned. Something that was supposed to reassure her, made her cry more. I stood, and made my way out of sugarcube corner. "maybe... I can get shadow to come around."

shadow stared into the clouds. the day was sunny, but not for him. He was laying back on a tree, in the middle of a field. 'pinkie pie thinks i cheated on her.' he thought sadly to himself. 'why, why, wh-'

"hey."

shadow turned his head to see me, walking up to him. "oh. hey sister." i put my head down and sighed heavily. I held my hands together. "i know you feel bad. but she didn't know." He looked up at me. "That hurt me, Wensday. I didn't expect her to... Turn into that." He looked up at the clouds once again, and got up. " who was that? That wasn't my pinkie pie." I looked away. "when she turns into that, we call her pinkimena. She... almost killed a pony in that form." he looked over at me. That sentence sent a shiver down shadow's spine. "we were able to stop her. But, this time, you have to." I walked over to him and put a hand on his shoulder. "you can set her straight." Shadow slowly nodded, and thought about what he could do. Suddenly, he had an idea. "I think I know how to fix this." I let my arm down and smiled at him. He smiled lightly, and ran back to ponyville.

Pinkie pie was lying down in bed, when she herd music playing from outside. She stood up slowly, and walked over to the balcony. There, in front of sugarcube corner, was shadow. He was holding a boom box up in the air. "I'm sorry! For whatever I did!" Pinkie's eyes widened. Her lips curled into a small smile. She zoomed from the balcony, down the stairs, outside, and tackled shadow with a hug. The boom box fell to the ground with a thump. Shadow was surprised. He thought it would be harder to win her back. "it wasn't your fault! It was mine! I misinterpreted your friendship with twilight!" 'Oh. So that's what this is about.' Shadow hugged her back. "it's ok, pinks. just, next time you don't jump to conclusions." "I pinkie promise."
