Chapter 5

Blake, the Cat Faunus just stood in front of her new room, the Dorm room of Team RWBY in silence, staring more so at the doorknob as she contemplated on what to do while in her left hand was a small suitcase, filled with clothing she had gone to town early in the morning to buy and other assortments she needed for school.

"Is it too late to see if there are single rooms?" Yet despite her thoughts she in the end sighs and places a hand on the doorknob before turning and opening it, pushing forward as she was given the sight of one Branwen standing before a Schnee, the Heiress glaring at the smug smiling bandit while between them stood the uncomfortable Ruby who was looking between them before her eyes lit up upon seeing Blake at the door, her eyes pleading for help yet the Faunus just sighs as she enters and turns from the argument, despite not saying anything her presence drew their attention.

"Oh, Bella!" Yang called which gained a twitch from the one who planted her suitcase on one of the empty beds. "Really, no hello of hi, just silence?" Her question gained a sigh as Blake turns to look at Yang who found her annoyance to be amusing.

"Don't start acting as you care about people being polite," Weiss mutters while turning towards her suitcase which gained the Bandit's attention and Blake's to see she was folding her clothing.

"Oh, that's a surprise and here I thought the Schnee and the Faunus weren't on good terms." Yang smiles at seeing the two looking bothered by her words as the conversation they had come to mind. "What, am I wrong?"

While this was happening, Ruby could very easily see the team was not doing so good...more so becoming awkward and reaching even worse than it was before she spoke up quickly.

"N-Now that Blake is h-here," Her stuttering drew their attention. "we can officially begin our first order of business." At that point, the three just stare at her, slightly confused yet more so curious of what she meant, though Blake and Weiss wanting her to continue to change the subject.

Quickly the youngest one got to her suitcase and opened it to reveal pillows, pamphlets on weapons, random tools, and books on rifles. The group was a little taken aback by the number of things she had weapon-based, especially the plushy that was a nine-tailed Fox holding a replica of her very own weapon.

"Decorating time!" She grabs her pillows that had miniature roses on them. "Let's work together and get this room finished!" After she said that out loud, her smile begins to falter at seeing they were just staring at her with Yang the first to turn away now looking annoyed.

"Just because your team leader doesn't mean I'm just gonna listen to some kid." Yang's words cut into Ruby yet she still musters the strength to smile yet looks down at her feet with Blake and Weiss looking at each other before respectively going to their beds to unpack, leaving Ruby to just stand there.

"Great job Ruby, didn't go as planned..." With that single thought, she went back to unpacking and by this point, the four had gotten all of their stuff out from their cases after a few minutes though it was very clear they didn't have much stuff. Besides Yang and Blake, Ruby fits all her stuff in her single suitcase while Weiss had multiple suitcases, one being for her weapon, one filled with dust, and another replacement parts.

*whistle*

Yang had moved away from her bed to stand behind the Schnee who felt a little annoyed at the bandit peering over her shoulder at the dust case she was looking into.

"Don't get any bright ideas, Branwen."

"What's wrong? I'm just admiring that collection since I haven't seen one like that since my mom's." At this point, Weiss shuts the case to turn towards the bandit yet nothing was said at they heard a small gasp and turn towards Ruby who had suddenly gone into her suitcase again.

"I almost forgot!" With that said, a dust vial was pulled out much to Weiss's surprise. "I forgot to give this back to you!" The girl turns and approach's the Snow haired girl and extends it forwards.

"Back at the start, I wasn't able to give this back to you." Weiss showed surprise, unlike Yang who seemed annoyed before turning away, something that Blake had noticed when it came to Ruby while the Rose hands the vial to the Schnee who takes it in hand, staring at it before her.

"Thanks... Ruby." In response, their leader smiles brightly at hearing the single word of gratitude.

"Always here to help!" With that said she walks over to her bed to finish up putting the rest of her stuff away unlike Yang and Blake who were already done and sitting on their beds, both having picked up their scrolls while they lay on it.

"Now, classes," Ruby mutters while picturing the class schedule they had that was laying on her bed closed, during this time the Branwen saw something on her scroll that visibly caused her eyes to widen before glancing over towards Blake who hadn't noticed.

"Ok, we mostly have classes together today. Starting with one at—" Ruby stops as her eyes widen, this got the other's attention.

"It doesn't start at 10, doesn't it."

"It starts at 9..."

And just like that, Weiss and Blake dashed out of bed in a hurry as they grabbed the nearest textbooks while they ran out the door, leaving behind Yang who didn't really care about being late yet her attention turns down to her scroll again, seeing the headlines of Menagerie's takeover and the assassination of the Chief, Ghira Belladonna before hearing more steps and looks up to see a blonde, black-haired, orange-haired, and a red-head rushing by their room as they too were in a hurry.

"I'm pretty sure it's this way!" Ruby shouted, being the one to lead the way as they were taking a shortcut through the courtyard where they ran on a single path towards the doors to the other part of the building rather than go all around. As they ran, few had noticed including Weiss at seeing Adam standing there next to Cinder. The Huntsman and Huntress just watching as they ran past them in a clear hurry.

"Seems 'they' weren't paying attention to the time." Cinder let her smug smile grace her lips. "But they are just freshmen after all, wouldn't you agree Adam?" Her question merely floats in the air with the Faunus just turning to look back at Cinder before they heard footsteps and turns to see Yang walking in the direction of her teammates.

"Branwen." Adam's call gained her attention. "Class is going to start." In response, she just continues walking with a smile forming on her lips.

"It doesn't matter, the first day of class and I can just blame our leader for screwing up the time." Her answer caused a visible frown to appear on Adam's face as he watched her walk past them.

"You're going to take that?" Cinder rested her gaze on him while Adam just turns away in the opposite direction.

"I have better things to deal with rather than get involved with her childish antics." This merely caused Cinder to smile as she walked after Adam who had started to move away.

"I still don't see why we were assigned to each other rather than splitting up to cover more ground." The red-head was visibly frowning at this point when he thought about all that's happened and did not bother to cover more ground.

"The Headmistress has seen the threats so far so he thought it best to limit the range of our patrols while keeping two-man squads spread out. Besides..." She glances back at her partner. "Is there a problem partnering with me?" She made her tone sound more seductive than usual which all that did was gain a frown again from Adam.

"Is that necessary?"

"I don't know what you mean?"

"~~and with a mighty swing of my ax, I cleaved the Alpha Beowolf's head clean off its body, ending its reign of terror and freeing the village from its dreadful suffering!"

Despite going into great explanation and detail on the battle he went through when he was younger, one Peter Port found that his entire class wasn't listening...due to the incident that took place at the Forest and the explosions outside the night, it caused quite a stir. Team RWBY was not listening, Ruby was sad due to the fact Yang had arrived late and threw her under the bus so she took more blame. Yang didn't listen because she was busy looking at her scroll from behind the desk. Blake for the same reason as she too was looking more at her scroll, the news of Menagerie and the death toll. The last of the team was Weiss, who was thinking about Adam once more.

[Winter: That complete idiot!]

Weiss just recalls the anger in the message she got from Winter, it was then that something hits the back of her head which she looks back at seeing one Nora just giving her a wave with a smile before a loud cough drew their attention and snapping them out of their thoughts in the process. It came from one white mustached Teacher, Peter who had a hand to his mouth before taking it away.

"Seeing that my 'story' wasn't enough to grab your intention instead of what we 'would' be covering. How about we move onto the subject of Grimm Evolution!" Now, this got their attention, Weiss, Nora, Blake, Ruby, Jaune, Pyrrha, Yang, and Ren all tuned in fully at hearing what is deemed as a very important topic when it came to the threat of Grimm, mostly what is labeled as a dangerous change when it comes to them. Yang specifically thinking of the Grimm Adam fought against that is under that type of Grimm yet more advanced.

"You see students, the longer a Grimm live the larger they can become, and with it, they usually take the shape of animals, beasts of nature such as the Nevermore being that of birds and Deathstalkers being that of Scorpions. They can also change in size and species are not all of what Grimm can do, compared to the many many Grimm out in the world of Remnant, there's a much smaller group of Grimm that are classified as higher creatures in many ways." His words gained surprise from many students, yet a select few knew first hand the dangers.

"I'm talking about the Devil Grimm's..." Just after he said that he gave it a dramatic effect by pausing. "From your silence, I can only presume you've heard stories of these terrifying creatures, these devilish monsters. Unlike the Grimm you have come to know, these are called "Devil Grimm" for the very reason that they embody controlled destruction. Which are far more dangerous compared to the average Grimm you've come to know. Not only do they gain a more humanoid form, from what we know they are similar for they also gain a great deal of intellect to the point their way of thinking is close to ours, and that includes gaining the ability to speak our language. Now, can anyone tell me how a Grimm becomes a Devil Grimm?" His question didn't gain an actual answer yet one specific student knew, that being the Branwen who stared in silence as she recalled the words of her mother before a hand raised.

"There are many theories, but the main being when a Grimm devours too many people with their aura awakened." Answered Pyrrha who gained the class's attention. "Due to Grimm lacking a soul; they are unable to have Aura. Therefore it's theorized that by devouring those that do, a Grimm can in a sense absorb pieces of a soul until they have enough pieces to have their own and in turn aura, yet none have yet shown capable of producing a Semblance." Her words gained a laugh and a smile.

"Ha! Exactly! That is why Devil Grimm is considered a top priority when it comes to true Huntsman and Huntresses. Like many, when in the face of these Grimm we must be honorable! Dependable! Strategic! Well-educated! Wise! And most of all, inspire and embody these traits! That is what I believe a True Huntsman and Huntress should be yet that is what I believe, it is your job to chose what kind you want to be." Upon finishing it, he could see the smiles and the looks on everyone's faces to see they were paying close attention and with a wiggle of his mustache, he continued.

"Now onto a more interesting story! Let me tell you all the time I fought a Beowolf with a pair of shoes!"

Groans echoed throughout the room, yet sadly the teacher either ignored them, didn't hear it, or just didn't give a fuck before going on with his story, meanwhile, a single Rose was doodling on a piece of paper, trying hard not to laugh but gave a small chuckle that didn't go unnoticed by Weiss who sat on her right, slightly annoyed at their 'leader' who proceeds to show Weiss a piece of paper of her drawing, gaining a sigh from the girl yet her eyes widen at seeing Yang shaking a little as she was looking away, trying to not show she found that to be funny while Blake just didn't pay attention.

"Ah-heh-hem!" This got their attention. "In the end, the Beowolf was no match for my sheer tenacity, and the power of my shoe so I returned to my village with the beast in captivity and my head held high, celebrated as a hero!"

The teacher takes a bow, yet no one applauded him yet still he spoke again.

"The moral of this story? A true Huntsman must be honorable! A true Huntsman must be dependable! A true Huntsman must be strategic, well-educated, and wise!" At this point he turned in the direction of one Ruby Rose, causing her to slouch a little.

"Ruby Rose, you and your team will meet me after class." This caused all four girls to freeze with Ruby's eyes widening as she stopped whatever antics she was doing before looking to see her teammates that were staring at her with Weiss sighing.

"Oops..."

"Ah, ah..." Ruby managed to give a weak laugh while she and the other three had just walked out of Port's office after a speech and verbal wanting to interrupt his class again. "I guess he was paying attention, right guys?" Her question received no answer and could see the three weren't looking at her yet was noticeable was that Yang wasn't in a good mood that Ruby took note of, quickly getting in front of her.

"Is everything ok, Yang?" Her question was met with Yang's cold gaze which she avoided. "S-Sorry about getting us in trouble, I—" She was cut off by Yang speaking over her.

"You're being a nuisance." Her words hit Ruby, and it hit her hard and she abruptly shut her mouth while staring at her feet with the Branwen walking past her. "You should have never come here." Her words further hit Ruby while Blake and Weiss looked at each other, the Schnee knowing Yang had found what she did being funny yet not understanding why she acted like she found it annoying always.

"I-I...I'll...see you later then." Before anything else could be said, she was gone with the sight of roses gaining silence again.

"Finally—" Yang was turning to look back but her eyes widen to see both Blake and Weiss just staring at her, not at all exactly happy.

"What's with those looks, what you think I'm wrong?" She places a hand on her hip just as Blake spoke up.

"Of all the things you could have said you decided to say that?" Blake's gaze hardened. "She's still a kid, a couple of years behind us though despite her acting out, why would you say that?" Blake's words did nothing to Yang who just stared at her.

"I say how I see it, she's a nuisance." She frowns. "Back in my tribe, that kind of acting out would get you punished." At this point, Weiss interjected.

"You say that yet I saw you trying to laugh," Yang's eyes widen. "you found that funny." Instead of saying that, Branwen quickly turns away.

"I'm not wasting my breath on you anymore, make up bullshit is all you want." With that said she starts walking away from the two girls who stare at her back as they wondered what that was all about.

Ruby ran quickly through the halls, trying to find the exact way to get back to her room to call her mother for much-needed advice, that was the plan originally, until...

"Gya!" She collided with someone before herself the moment she turned a corner, resulting in her falling back with a thud. "I-I'm sorry!" Slowly she looks up apologetically and froze at the sight of one twitching Adam staring at her.

"I'M SORRY!"

Adam had led her to a courtyard table to talk at while it was quite sunny out with the flowers being full bloom.

"So team troubles." Like hitting the nail on the head he could see she was on the verge of tears, not having been a good day at all.

"Is she right?" She began. "Should I have ever come here?" Despite how she looked, Adam instead didn't seem all too bothered.

"Ruby...it hasn't even been a full day for one." His words caused her to feel a little embarrassed. "And two, as a leader you're bound to run into problems." His words surprised her quite a lot.

"Were you a leader of your team?"

"Yes, I was in charge of my team." Adam leans back into his chair. "I've had similar problems yet in the end, we pulled through it. Not because of the friendship of anything like that but we trained to be Huntsman and Huntresses, we have things more pressing to deal with rather than our issues." After saying that, Ruby looks down at her feet.

"The question is, do you think you can do it?" The Rose just blinks in surprise while the Bull-Faunus stares at her with his lone blue-eye.

"Why not ask your parents for advice?"

"I rather not depend on my mom much tho my dad would be better for this but he's away on a secret mission." She takes out her scroll and turns it to show a picture. "I'm waiting for him to finally reply after seeing Team RWBY!" She smiles brightly before stopping herself, becoming unsure while Adam stares at the picture.

"Just try leading them and have more faith in yourself." It was after he said that did he stand up suddenly, turning his back to her.

"I've got to get back to patrolling, remember what I've told you." As he spoke those words, Ruby just stared at him before standing up and giving a bow.

"T-Thank you for your kind words!" With that said, Ruby just stood there as she watches until jolting upon hearing her name, turning to find Blake and Weiss standing behind her with slightly worried expressions.

"Guys?" She abruptly stood up. "W-Why are you here, shouldn't you be in class?" Her question got raised eyebrows from the two.

"Shouldn't we be asking you the same thing?" Blake asked which Weiss nodded in agreement while she crossed her arms.

"We've been looking for you, we're late for the next class." This caused her to look down apologetically.

"S-Sorry, just let the teacher—" Ruby was stopped by feeling the hard end of a book bop her on the head, causing her to look up at Blake.

"Enough, we already know you're sorry so let's get to class and tell him we were with Adam." She turns away from Ruby and starts walking away with Weiss turning to look back at her as she too follows.

"She's right, besides Yang went overboard saying that." She displayed a small reassuring smile. "We know you were accepted years early, just take this as a way to improve." Just by hearing that, Ruby's eyes widen, and a bright smile forms on her face.

"O-Ok!" She quickly moves past the two before turning towards them. "I'll try to be the best leader I can be for this team as well!" With that said, she turns and hurries which Blake and Weiss look at each other before they too hurry, not seeing watching from another window connected to the courtyard where Yang looks away in annoyance.

"Tch."
