Rey stood outside the door that led down to the dungeon she had just left. She saw a scuffle across the snowy courtyard as the bloodied man who had attempted to make a run for the stable was surrounded and eventually cut down.
To her right lay the vagabond. Rey paused over his corpse and took the extinguished torch and his sheepskin hat to hide her buns. She could see now that leaving would not be easy. She would need to blend in, take her time.
Rey took the torch across to a fire pit on the opposite side of the Courtyard to the stables. Pausing for a while to seem less suspicious, she warmed herself by the fire with soldiers. It was at that point that the black knight burst up from the dungeons and began snarling orders. He inspected the two dead prisoners and yelled, "there's a third, a girl. Find her and bring her to me—alive!"
Rey found herself firing into action with the other soldiers, lighting her torch in the flames and heading up some stairs, pretending to join the search for herself.
She could hear the black knight giving commands below. "Secure the stables. She's going to try to steal a horse."
That's how she found herself up on the ramparts as the sun began to fade. Clouds threatening more snow were an ominous yellow tinted grey amongst the vivid orange and reds. As she almost completed a full circuit of the castle, memorising the layout and less guarded dark corners and scavenging what further equipment she could—a knapsack with some provisions, a dagger with a rough, handmade hilt, a half full canteen of water, fingerless gloves.
She had almost decided on a route when there was a metal clank. A four pronged hook scrapped along the floor in front of her until it caught on the lip of the stonework. Rey peered over the edge and pulled back quickly as a crossbow bolt narrowly missed her.
"Woah! It's her!" A familiar low voice could be heard below and Rey ventures another glance. Han, Finn, Chewie.
They signalled for her to climbed down the rope which she did with trepidation, her arms and hands aching with the effort, and thankful for the additional protection of the gloves. She had barely touched ground when Finn had her in a bear hug.
"Are you alright?" Han asked.
"What happened? Did he hurt you?" Finn looked her over for injuries as best as could be done wearing her disguise.
"Finn, what are you doing here?"
"We came back for you." Rey felt herself well up.
"It was his idea," Chewie said in his thick accent.
"Thank you."
"How did you get away?"
Rey was unable to respond as Han began to herd them towards the trees in the distance. "Escape now. Hug later."
They were only yards away when the first yell was heard and an arrows began to whistle their way.
Having heard the shouts Kylo Ren made his way up to the ramparts. A sergeant addressed him as he strode along to the commotion. Four persons escaped into the forest, a grapple hook was found, should they pursue on horseback.?
Kylo inspected the grapple hook and saw a crossbow bolt not far away. He knew this type of bolt well. Chewbacca. Han Solo.
"No, saddle my charger. I'll go after them alone."
