Sup, everyone. I just want to go a bead and say I'm on the 30th chapter of my edits. Only halfway done, sweet.
I just want to put down my thoughts in general about this whole thing, or at least with a particular subject, mainly characters. Now, when I first started this project, I was an amateur at best when it came to making characters. Nowadays, I feel as if I have grown in that department from the media I consume.
Kazuki, the way I wrote him before, was alien to me. He felt like such an odd character, one that I can't believe I wrote. This stems from the fact that he felt too confident, willing, smart, and just competent in general. Going back, I'm writing him in a way that makes sense to me. I always wanted his character to be about the false airs he puts around himself, then break that down to his barest element. Cause to me, Kazuki Kei is not a fearless person who is able to do anything he wants, he's a boy who is thrown into a conflict he had no way of preparing for, straddled with more baggage than he can handle. The only reason he is able is that he is motivated to protect the people closest to him, however, that's also another element to his character I want to break down.
Shizuka is also a character that was odd to me. She just seems too friendly with the group, coming off less like she was a distant character and more of a quick friend that was made. So what do we do with this woman of mystery? Simple, strip it away, figure out what makes her act aloof, then expand on it.
Fuuka is also another character I should've done more with, and with these edits, I will. Honestly speaking, I believe making her too pure-hearted was an unwise move. That's not to say she should be swearing left and right and acting rough, no. She should have a level of gray to her, not too extreme, but enough to say that she's human. No matter how kind one seems, they have something beneath the surface, no matter how inconsequential. I also want to make her less of an object of romance and her own character.
Finally: Minako. I'll be honest, I had no idea what to do with her. Making her an antagonist seemed like a good idea, it was, but I had no idea how to go about it. Now, she'll more or less be used properly and given better development than I was able to. She and Kazuki are meant to be a Juxtaposition to each other, mirroring the other in background, personality, and in who they are underneath their masks as people.
Overall: I had a concept going, but the execution was a bit lacking, so now, I'm going to rectify that by hopefully doing better with these characters, as well as the original cast because they are all wonderful characters that deserve nothing more than to be characterized properly, and maybe even expanded on.
Also, I'm am going to outright change the Snow-queen arc since it just seems so weird to me now. Another thing, I decided to change Kazuki's Persona's name to Janus. I was in a .hack G.U. fanboy phase, so I might have let that influence my work. Now, I'm just making sure I get rid of that, giving Kazuki a more setting-accurate feel.
So this marks the end of this announcement, well, ramble. Please, I encourage you guys to wait a bit longer. the next update will probably come at the 40th chapter mark. If you do end up reading this fic, then note that most of everything will be changed, and please, do not forget to leave a review, feedback is welcomed. Until the next ramble; see ya.
