CHAPTER 8: TEAM

Percy

"Finally! School is over for the week." Leo cheered, throwing papers around in the courtyard.

Annabeth groaned, "I can't believe we have this random friday off."

I slung an arm around her, "It might because we started school early this year." Annabeth glared at me and adjusted her backpack.

Nico said, "Whatever the reason. I'm just glad I don't have school tomorrow." He glared back at Xavier, watching us out of the corner of his eye. Leo and I might have pranked the kid a bit to teach him a lesson with getting Nico sent to the deans.

"Hey! We should visit camp, with the long weekend and all." said Piper.

I nodded, grinning. "Would love to see Mrs. O'Leary again. And I think Tyson is coming over to visit too."

"Your cyclops half-brother?" asked Amelie. "Count me out. I rather stay with your mom. Maybe, learn a few cooking techniques."

Jason frowned, "You cook?"

"Hey, you gotta learn if you're going to survive on your own." Calypso smirked.

We started walking back towards the apartment after rejecting Paul's offer to drive. It's nice and all to sit in a car, but traffic is horrible in New York. There's always a hellhound or two blocking the road.
Soon, the apartment door came into view, a package was seated neatly on the doormat.

Leo clapped his hands excitedly and ran his hand over the package. Piper tapped her foot impatiently, "What is it Leo?"

"Patience Beauty Queen. I believe my package came."

Amelie kneeled down to examine the box, "Seattle, Washington?"

"That's the Amazon headquarters." I said. "So, Leo, what did you order?"
Leo opened the door to the apartment and sweeped his arm towards the coach. "Enter my office."

We exchanged glances and shrugged, entering the apartment.

Leo followed with the package in hand. He rubbed his hand together and started trying to pry cardboard from each other.

I glanced, "You good dude?" I took out my pen and uncapped it. I started using Riptide to pry the box open. Annabeth smacked her face and muttered, "We have a box opener in the kitchen."

Soon, the box was opened and Leo continued on explaining his evil plans. He cackled, "I have created the next big wave of technology. Does anyone have a phone?"

Piper scoffed, "I wish. We could attract monsters if we did though."

"Not like we don't anyway," Nico muttered, "Three children of the Big three plus four other demigods and a titaness. It's literally a lighthouse for monsters."

Leo ignored Nico, "Exactly. I now present a new monster-free retrofitted phone!" He pushed smartphones into our hands. "With the Amazons' help I figured out a way to combine the mist with modern technology. So, now we can use phones."

I fingered the smartphone gingerly, waiting for a monster to appear at any second. Calypso asked, "Are you sure this works?"

"Don't worry about it, Sunshine. I had plenty of beta tests. Only a couple of broken ribs later, we have the newest model. It comes automatically with the newest version of Iris Messaging. It comes with a rainbow! So, anyone interested in investing? I'm looking for 250,000 drachmas and you can get 5% of shares."

Jason barked, "This isn't Shark Tank, dude."

"Oh, that was my practice sales pitch before I go introduce it to camp. Though, Shark Tank isn't a bad idea." Leo started packing up the rest of the phones.

"These are pretty cool," I said, setting up the phone. Leo grinned, "Thanks. Just call me McShizzle Supreme. That's going to be my front name when doing sales."

Amelie drawled, "Why? Are you doing fraud or something?"

Leo winked and dragged Calypso away.

Jason smiled, "Well that was interesting. We should start packing for camp."

"After I finish my game," Nico frowned, mashing buttons on the phone.

I jumped around the coach to look at Nico's screen. His Batman avatar was currently battling Superman, and winning. "Damn, Neeks. This is pretty good. Hmm, I wonder if we were superheroes. I know Jason would make a nice blonde Superman and I could definitely be Aquaman. But Leo?"

Jason shrugged, "Maybe an Iron Man? I feel like Leo would make a super suit out of metal or something."

"Seriously, though. Iron Man? That's not very creative if you ask me."

"Neither is Aquaman," Piper said, "Or Superman." She added when she noticed Jason's smirk.

"Oh, don't even get me started on Superman," I replied, taunting Jason.

Annabeth sighed, "Seaweed Brain, remember camp? Packing? Stop talking about superheroes."

I whined and started cleaning up the couch before Paul came home.

"You guys have fun." Amelie smiled. I stopped, "You're actually not coming?"

"What? You thought I was kidding?"

Annabeth frowned, "Calypso is coming."

"So? Look, you guys don't need to babysit me, ok? I've been working on controlling Gaea, so just let me hang out with your mom or something. She seems really nice, Percy."

"Thank you, Amelie!" said Sally from the kitchen.

I exchanged looks with Annabeth. She sighed, "Fine. But let us know if something is going on. It would also be good to test out Leo's smartphone."

Amelie smiled, "Thanks guys. But seriously, have fun. And punch the Stolls for me. They put shaving cream in my luggage." She went towards her room.

Annabeth crossed her arms, "I think she's hiding something."

"Seriously, Annabeth?" I said, "Trust her a bit. If she was, she would tell us eventually."

"Yeah, yeah. You're right. Come on, Seaweed Brain, we need to pack your school work too."

I pouted, "Really, Wise Girl? It's a weekend! That means no school!"
"No complaining."

Wally

I consumed my burrito with super-speed as I watched Kaldur and Superboy duke it out. Megan and Artemis came into the room laughing loudly. I turned around, cheese around my mouth. I glared at Artemis and she glared back full strength.

"Fail, Aqualad." The computer called. I looked back at Aqualad on the ground, rubbing his back, and Superboy smiling in success. "13. Black Canary."

"I taught him that," said Black Canary, proud like a mother. She returned to the computer and typed a few bits of code. The Zeta beam brightened, a shadow of a figure coming through. The computer said, "B11. Pangaea."

I wiped the remains of my burrito from my face and zipper over to get a closer look. There was a black haired girl in civvies holding a duffle bag, her gray eyes piercing across the cave. She wore a simple orange hoodie and jeans. She smiled as she saw us gathered around.

Black Canary gestured, "This is your new teammate, Pangaea."

I asked, "Is she your protege?"

"No, she's on loan."

Where was Rob to translate that for me? He would have immediately dissected her superhero name. Damn, why did he have to pick today to go on patrol with Batman?

"Anyway, I'll let you guys get accustomed to each other." Black Canary turned back towards the Zeta beams and disappeared into the light.

M'gann smiled, "My name is M'gann. I am Miss Martian. This is Wally or Kid Flash." (I winked.) "Kaldur or Aqualad." (Kaldur nodded.) "Artemis. It's also her real name." (Artemis smiled.) "and Superboy." Superboy scoffed and looked at the ceiling.
"Robin isn't here today, but I'm sure he would love to meet you. So, what's your name?"

"Amelie Gray." The girl didn't scoot from her spot, staying rooted nearby the Zeta beams.

I zipped forward, immediately before Amelie, and stared at her. I ran back towards M'gann. "Don't worry babe. She's cute and all, but I only have eyes for you." I gave her my best grin.

Artemis scoffed and came forward, "It's nice to meet you. How long have you been a superhero?"
"Just a few months now."

My eyes widened, "Woah. And you're already good enough to join us?" I recalled the countless years of training before Batman decided to create the team.

"Yeah, um, what exactly are you guys?" She rubbed the back of her neck sheepishly, glancing at our civvies.

Aqualad stepped forward, "We are a covert operations team under the Justice League. Officially, we do not exist."

Amelie smiled, "Perfect. Wasn't planning on becoming known anyway."

I put my hand towards my head, "Yeah, I've never heard of you before. Granted, Rob doesn't tell me everything he finds when he hacks the Justice League servers. But, what did Canary mean by 'on loan'?"

"You know I'm not quite sure myself," she smirked, "Though, it probably explains why I don't have a permanent mentor."

Crossing her arms, Artemis scoffed, "Everyone has a mentor. Are you sure you're our future teammate?"

"I never said I didn't have a mentor. I just have more than one. And last time I checked, yeah. The plan was for me to gain experience with you guys. They ask more questions than the Titans. Vlakas." She shook her head lightly.

I narrowed my eyes, "What did you call M'gann?" That word sounded like a curse word if I heard any.

I could see Superboy trying to bore laser-eye beams towards Amelie, and Artemis fidgeting a bit, probably for a bow. M'gann still smiled, weaker than usual though.

The only one who wasn't on edge was Kaldur, who smiled and stepped forward with a handshake. "Are you from Atlantis too? It's been a while since a surface-dweller spoke my native tongue." Cue a bunch of gaping monkeys aka Artemis. (Artemis would say I was the monkey, but I digress.)

I slung a shoulder around Kaldur, "And what exactly is that?"

Amelie said, ignoring me, "No, I'm not from Atlantis, but I've been there before. I'm so glad to have found someone similar to me. It's been such a pain to try to understand the slang around here." She approached us, analyzing Kaldur's tattoos.

"Oh, you're not a native english speaker either," exclaimed M'gann, "I've been trying to learn slang through earth tv." She started to recite random lines.

Kaldur nodded, "If you're not Atlantean, are you from Themyscira then?"

Amelie nodded brightly and said something in some foreign language.

"Athena? Did you stay in that camp for a while then? And encountered the monsters?"

She answered him again in the language.

I scooted over to Superboy, "Do you understand what they're saying?" The two were animatedly talking to each other, laughing.
"No. Cadmus only taught languages widely spoken." I sighed in exasperation.

"Hey, babe, what are they saying?"

M'gann pouted frustratingly, her eyes glowing, "I can't read her mind-" Suddenly, the two of them stiffened and glanced in our direction.

"Hey. I don't think it's polite to read the mind of someone you just met." Amelie glared at M'gann and then continued her avid conversation with Kaldur.

M'gann jumped and whimpered, hiding behind Artemis. Artemis merely said, "She's right you know."

Wait, did Kaldur say Themyscira. I pointed at Amelie and cried, "You're from Themyscira!"
"Um, yeah." She turned around and frowned, clearly annoyed.

"What's your point, Wally?" Artemis said, looking at her nails.

"You're an Amazon, just like Wonder Woman." Amelie merely nodded.

M'gann clasped her hands together, "Wonder Woman is so cool, that's earth slang for amazing. When I go on the Internet, many Earth people like her as-"

Artemis slammed a mouth over M'gann. "You don't want to finish that sentence."

Superboy crossed his arms, "Can she beat Superman?"
Amelie perked an eyebrow at that.

Suddenly, I heard a hatch opening and wind arose as Red Tornado tornadoed (?) down. I am definitely not the word smith like Rob is. Metal clanged on the floor as he approached the holocomputer. Artemis asked, "Did you know we were going to have a new teammate?"

"I was alerted, but not of when they'd arrive." He started typing something on the computer. "I suggest you get to know your teammate."

I speeded towards him and asked, "Ignore that. Do you have a mission for us?"

"Mission assignments are the Batman's responsibility."

"Yeah, well, the Batman is with the Robin, doing the Dynamic Duo thing in Gotham," I said robotically. "But you're heading somewhere, right?" This drew in my other teammates, itching for action. "Hot date, or a … missión." Haha, checkmate Red.

Kaldur offered, "If we could be of any help…"

Red Tornado looked over at us for a minute and turned back to the holoscreen image he pulled up. "This is Kent Nelson, a friend. He is 106 years old."

"Guy doesn't look a day over 90." I whispered to Artemis.

"And he has been missing for 13 days. Kent was a charter member of the Justice Society, the precursor to the Justice League." Kent's image turned to one with a blue breastplate and the iconic golden helmet and cape. Dr. Fate.

"Of course," Kaldur said, "Nelson was Earth's Sorcerer Supreme. He was Doctor Fate."

Amelie mumbled, "Nabu."

"Pfft." I said, "More like Doctor Fake. Guy knows a little science and Dumbledore's it up to scare the bad guys and impress the babes."

Artemis shook her head in disgust. Tornado continued, "Kent may just be on one of his walkabouts, but he is caretaker to the Helmet of Fate. The source of the Doctor's mystic might, and it is unwise to leave such power unguarded."

"He's like the great sorcerer-priests and priestesses of Mars, I would be honored to help find him." M'gann exclaimed dreamily.

Without thinking, my hand shot up. "Me too." escaped my lips. I fumbled, "So honored I can barely stand it." Everyone besides M'gann gave me incredulous looks. I smiled weakly. "Magic rocks." I said while doing the signature hand gesture. I could feel Artemis baring holes in my head.

Tornado handed Kaldur an old key, "Take this. It is the key to the Tower of Fate."

Meanwhile, I leaned up against M'gann and winked, "What are the chances we both so admire the mystic arts?"

Artemis mumbled, "0%."

As we flew over Rhode Island in the bioship, Artemis mockingly asked, "So, Wally, when did you realize your honest affinity for sorcery?"

"Well, I-I don't like to brag, but, uh, before I became Kid Flash, I seriously considered becoming a wizard myself."

Amelie asked, "Uh, are your missions usually like this?"

M'gann smiled, "Don't worry. You'll get a hang of it eventually. So, tell us more about yourself, you're an Amazon, correct?"

Amelie nodded, "Themyscira is a beautiful island."

I asked, "So what exactly are your powers? I noticed your hero name is 'Pangaea'."

She fidgeted, "Geokinesis. But not really, I can barely levitate rocks."

I shared a glance with Artemis. And she was to join us when she barely has control over her own powers?

"-but don't worry. I can do more than just levitate little pebbles."

Kaldur nodded, "I heard the Amazon training is rigorous."

"Extremely. Give a take a few centuries, and you become a master over a few weapons." She said nonchalantly.

Superboy asked, "How old are you?"

"Definitely older than you." I snickered, "But, hey, if you need any help over the course of the mission. I'm here to help, cause that's just the kind of person I am." I peeked out of the corner of my eye to see M'gann's reaction.

"Thanks for the offer, but I think I'll just ask Kaldur. He is your leader after all."

Artemis chuckled.

"Whatever," I mumbled.

M'gann said, "We have arrived at the coordinates, but-" The bioship lurched forward as it slowed to a stop.

There was an open field with a rundown theatre probably from the 90s. A red brick building was alight next to the theater. But other than that, "There's nothing here." Superboy said.

"Take us down." Kaldur ordered.

As we exited the bioship, I said, "This isn't simple camouflage."

Artemis smirked, "What do you think, adaptive micro-opto-electronics combined phase shifting."

"Absolutely…" I glanced at M'gann, "Not! Clearly mystical powers are at work here."

Amelie shook her head, "Vlakas."

Kaldur approached the empty field and glanced at the key in his hand. "A test of faith." He inserted the key into open air. The key turned on its own and glowed. Suddenly, a stone tower appeared.

Artemis and I jumped back in surprise. Kaldur pushes the wooden door open. We followed him in, and then the door shut and disappeared.

Superboy asked, "Where'd the door go?" I looked around at the bare walls. Suddenly a projection of Kent Nelson appeared. "Greetings, you have entered with a key, but the Tower does not recognize all of you. State your purpose and intent."

Amelie stepped forward, "Kent, it's m-"

"We are true believers, here to find Doctor Fate." I exclaimed dramatically. The projection shook his head sadly and faded away. The floor creaked and then gave in.

"You really are a vlakas, aren't you?" Amelie cursed as we fell towards magma.

Artemis shot an arrow and grabbed Kaldur as they swung towards the wall. M'gann levitated and took a hold of me, sweat pouring down her face. Pangaea used two knives to hold onto as she watched Superboy claw at the rock walls, slowing down his descent, his boots burning to a crisp.

"Those were my favorite boots. This Kent better be worth it."

M'gann and I started bobbing up and down, "Ugh, I'm so hot."
"You sure are," I said dreamily.

Kaldur said, "My physiology and M'gann's are susceptible to heat, we must climb out quickly."

"Welp, this mission is going pretty well so far." Amelie whispered sarcastically.

"Hello, Megan! We never answered the question. Red Tornado sent us to see if Mr. Nelson and the helmet were safe."

The magma became metal. We all dropped to the floor. Amelie said, "It should be hot, but it's cool to the touch."

"Don't worry Megalicious, I got you." I helped M'gann onto her feet.

"Enough! Your little 'Impress M'gann' game nearly got us all barbecued." Artemis said, poking my chest.

Heat flushed my checks. "When did this become my fault?!"
"When you lied and called yourself a true believer."

M'gann sadly whispered, "Wally? You don't believe?"

I glared at Artemis for exposing me and then threw my hands up, "Fine! I lied about believing in magic, but magic is the real lie. It's all a major load of bull!"

"Wally, I studied for a year at the Conservatory of Sorcery in Atlantis. The Mystic Mages created the skin icons that power my Water-bearers."

"Dude, you ever hear of bioelectricity?" I said pointedly, "Hey in primitive cultures, fire was considered magic. Today, it's all a bunch of tricks."

"You're pretty close-minded for a guy who can break the sound barrier in his sneakers." Artemis sneered.

"That's science. I recreated the Flash's experiment, and here I am! Everything can be explained with science."

"What about the gods?" Amelie said softly. "From where I'm from, there are gods who rule over every little thing. I've met those gods before. I've seen their feats before. Tell me, is that science as well?"

Kaldur nodded, "Amelie and I share the same beliefs. There is a goddess that actually rules over magic. She was the one who taught my ancestors sorcery."

I shook my head at their delusions, "Have you not seen that one movie? Where that lightning god dude was just an alien, nothing more? Sorry to destroy your whole belief system, but these 'gods' are probably aliens with better technology than us and with a different physiology that lets them supersede human lifespans. Again, everything can be explained with science."

Amelie and Kaldur shared a glance. Kaldur smirked, "Let us test that theory." He grabbed a handle on the floor and began to open it.

My eyes widened, "Wait, the backdraft from the lava will roast us alive."

Instead of hot magma and pain, snow and numbness came instead.

M'gann cried, "It's snow!" and started giggling.

Artemis smirked, "Do you ever get tired of being wrong?" We jumped through and found ourselves in a Winter Wonderland. "String theory. We're in a pocket dimension." I smirked at Artemis's grunt in frustration.

"What's that?" Superboy said, pointing at a cane with a golden outline floating in mid-air.

"Oooh, maybe it's Kent's magic wand." I snickered, speeding over to grab it.

Amelie's eyes widened, "Don't touch it-"

Artemis and I both exclaimed, "I got it." The cane glowed brighter. "Huh? I can't let go!" and then we disappeared in golden light

Amelie

I shook my head, "I have definitely learned a lot about Wally from this mission."

"I don't understand," M'gann grunted, "It's almost like he needs to believe the impossible can't happen."

Kaldur stated calmly, "Wally uses his understanding of science to control what he cannot comprehend. Acknowledging magic would relinquish the last vestige of that control."

"Sometimes mortals are like that." I whispered, "They have this funny way of always wanting to be in control."

Superboy said, "You say that as if you aren't human."

"Are you?" Superboy grunted in response. We continued walking until we saw a door on top of a hill covered in snow. We looked at each other and started making our way towards it.

The door gave way and suddenly we were falling. Kaldur and Superboy landed on each other in a pile while I used them to break my fall. M'gann levitated down and I gave her the stink eye, "You really couldn't have helped us?"

"Friends of yours?" I looked up and saw Kent with Wally and Artemis. I stood up and smiled, "Kent, nice to see you again."

He smiled, "Likewise, though perhaps under better circumstances."

Suddenly, blue electricity flashed, missing us barely. The elevator dinged to reveal a guy with horns, a cat, and a guy with a ponytail. Wally shouted, "Friends of yours?"

We kept on dodging the electricity. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Kent ring the bell as he, Wally, and horn boy walked through. That just left us with this guy. Fun.

Soon, Kaldur and Superboy were surrounded in an electric cage while Artemis shot tiny arrows at him. I took out the tiger charm on my bracelet and threw the knife in his general direction, pinning him slightly. He gruffed and the shirt ripped. He continued his attacks with more ferocity than before. Great.

M'gann said, "I'm calling for help." Her eyes glowed as she used her telekinesis to block attacks.

Wally

"Not bad for a former Doctor Fake eh? Have faith in what you can't explain. Believe in what you can no longer deny." His hand dropped towards the ground.

I kept on pushing against his chest, hoping he would open his eyes again and just breathe. Klarion continued his tantrum as the golden bubble started to flicker. 'Wally we're in trouble.' M'gann's voice cut in. 'Tell Kent we need Doctor Fate-'

Klarion growled and a red magic circle appeared around his feet. Two hands formed and gripped their claws into the shield. I looked down at Kent Nelson, sleeping peacefully. "A test of faith."

I took the helmet into my hands and brought it above me. Klarion sneered, "Hey, dumb kid. You put that on, you might never get it off." The shield flickered dimly as it died. Klarion seized his moment and shot red magic in my direction. I pushed the helmet onto my head as golden light overcame me.

The world disappeared and I was in a gray void of sorts. "Ok. I'm not here. I'm just delusional." I said, gripping for any ounce of control over the situation.

"Still don't believe?" Kent chuckled, his voice booming into the void, his figure appearing, "Seriously, kid, how'd you get so bullheaded in 15 short years."

I blinked, trying to see if it was a trick of my mind. "But-but, you're-"
"Dead? I know. Don't feel bad kid, I'll soon be reunited with my Inza."

I glanced at my own body and my hands shot to my head, "Wait, am I-"
"You're alive, kid. Relax. Your soul is no longer in control of your body. We're inside the helmet. You put it on, and my soul got sucked right along with yours, probably because I spent so many years serving its master." Seeing my confused face he continued, "Nabu, the real Doctor Fate, a Lord of Order. He's the guy controlling your body now. Wanna watch?"

He gestured forward. I saw my body turning around after hitting Klarion with a spell of a golden wave. Suddenly I fell to the ground, clutching my back. "What gives?"
"It is your body."

"Then let me control it. With Fate's powers and my speed-"
"Sorry, kid. It doesn't work that way. But you can see why I haven't put on the helmet in 65 years."

"And if Fate loses this fight?"

"You see Inza before I do." My face drooped as I clutched my knees to watch the fight.

"You're out of practice Nabu, and that pathetic host body? Zero affinity for the mystic arts." Klarion raised his hands as clouds formed over, creating a red lightning storm.

Fate puts up a barrier in a full rainbow color. Klarion taunted, "Oooh, rainbow power."

Teekl meowed and stared at the Lord of Chaos. "I am paying attention, you stupid cat."

She continued to stare. "In case you haven't noticed, I'm winning."

Fate narrowed his eyes, if possible under the helmet. "It is difficult for a Lord of Chaos or Lord of Order to maintain a presence on the physical plane. I am bound to the helmet and a human host. But that is not your way." Fate dodged Klarion's attacks.

Klarion's eyes glowed a savage-like red and his face contorted in anger, "You're babbling Nabu."

"Am I?" Fate shot out a golden beam. Klarion held up a red shield, expecting the impending impact.

But it didn't happen as the beam missed him completely and was aimed towards Teekl, sending the cat flying. Klarion growled, "I can't believe you assault a defenseless pussycat.

"We both know that creature is no cat, Witch boy. And without your familiar, you have no anchor in this reality." Golden flames licked against the cat. Klarion stumbled as his body flickered.

"Bully! Killjoy! Geezer! Holy carp!" Klarion jumped into a portal as Fate sent another blast in his direction. The portal opened up towards Teekl. He picked her up and said, "We're out of here." He snapped and a portal appeared. He jumped into it but not before glaring at Dr. Fate as the portal disappeared in black and red light.

I cheered, pumping my fist in the air. "That's how we do kick it on the earthly plane."
I glanced at Kent Nelson, "Uh, it's over right? Why isn't he taking off the helmet?"

"Because this earth needs Doctor Fate." Nabu appeared in the gray void. "I will not release this body."

"You can't do that!" I glanced at Kent worriedly, "He can't do that, right?"

"Can, but shouldn't. This is not the right candidate. The kid's soul belongs in the world of science, not sorcery."

"True, but I do not appreciate being permanently hidden away, useless, and isolated for decades at a time. Chaos must not be allowed to reign." He whispered darkly.

Kent stepped forward defiantly, "That won't happen again. The boy'll take the helmet and make sure you're put to good use."
I put a hand over my heart and raised my right hand, "I swear.'

"In the meantime, I'll stick around, keep you company."
I fumbled towards Kent, "Wait, what about you ascending? What about Inza?"

Kent chuckled, "So you believe now? Don't sweat it kid. I'll spend a few millenia here, and then see Inza. That's the great thing about eternity. It's eternal." He smiled at his watch, where Inza's picture was shown.

"That bargain is acceptable."
"Some free advice before you go. Find your own Spitfire, one who won't let you get away with nothing. For example, that-"

The gray void disappeared as the helmet was taken off, leaving me on the rooftop of the tower.

Amelie

We arrived back at the cave, hearts heavy with the fact Kent Nelson was gone. I sighed, glancing at Wally. He perked his eyebrow. "How was Kent? Before he died."

He smiled softly, "He was excited to see Inza. He gave me some advice, and told me to tell you that he's sorry he's not able to assist you on the rest of your journey, whatever that means."

I nodded, fully understanding the weight of his words. Kent would still be watching over like a guardian angel although he can't physically teach me. I would have to be my own teacher. I'm glad that old man is gone. He was grating on my nerves. I sighed and ignored her as I saw Artemis approach Wally as he put away the helmet.

Kaldur stepped forward, "How was your first experience with the team?"

I smiled wryly, "It wasn't that bad. This mission really showed me a lot about each member, and where I could fit in and help the overall team. I'm really excited to be a part of it."

"I'm glad. I know that you're still adjusting to the modern world as are others in the team. So, you're not alone in your struggles."

"Appreciated." I nodded.

I helped Sally set the table as the whole gang came bursting through the door. I perked an eyebrow, "How was camp?"

Percy grinned, "Fun. Really reminds me how much I hate school."

Annabeth smacked Percy, "Don't say that."

"The Hunters of Artemis came over. You probably know some of them." Piper said.
I shrugged, "A lot of the old ones quit or died. So I'm not sure."

Nico mumbled, "How morbid."
"Says Death Breath." Leo cackled, "I sold a lot of my pear phones."

"Pear Phones?"

"I'm still working on the name." Leo mumbled.

Jason smiled, "How was your weekend?"
My mind flashed to Wally and Artemis and the whole team. "Uneventful."
Annabeth gave me a look of disbelief but continued unpacking. Leo rubbed his hands together, "What's for lunch?"

Calypso smirked, "Is that all you think of?"

"Hey! A man has gotta get his food."

I shook my head, a faint chuckle escaping my lips. Maybe this world isn't so bad after all.

Flashback

Amelie stood on the shore of the beach, waves crashing, as she saw Amazons dump the man into the boat. She stared at the young Princess of Themyscira. "Are you sure about this Princess Diana? Going outside the island without backup? There's a war going on out there."

"I'm aware of that." she said, feeling the metal against her skin, a new gift from her mother. "But, I can't sit back and do nothing while innocent people get hurt."

"While a noble cause, you are the heir to Themyscira. I still think it unwise."

She stared at Amelie, who shook her head. "You're still going though?"

Princess Diana nodded. Amelie smiled, "In that case, do what I wasn't brave enough to do the last time this opportunity was presented to our island. Go out there and make the world better. Your home will still be here at Themyscira."

Princess Diana smiled, "It's been so good to have known you."

"Likewise. I still remember it like yesterday when I had to clean our your diapers."

Princess Diana threw back a laugh, "I still remember all of the quests you let me tag along. Don't worry. You've trained me well. I'll come back, after the war is over, victorious."

"I don't expect anything less from the Princess of the Amazons. Though, do remember, if you are going to America, we have forces over there as well."

"Yes, I remember. Mother would not stop nagging me." Princess Diana pulled up the sack of food she collected. She was ready for war.

Amelie smiled sadly, "I guess this is farewell."

"Think of it as a 'see you later'." Princess Diana smiled, "Something tells me that you'll be coming over as well once you realize how good it is out there."

The Amazon shook her head, "We shall see. Find a team over there. Someone as good as us, as reliable as us. Find yourself a family that will take care of you."

"I will, and then you must take care of our family here."

Amelie glanced back at the camp where she knew Cassie and Savannah were sparring it out and Queen Hippolyta was watching her daughter from the rocky shores.

Soon, the Princess was gone, her sail in the horizon. The only thing left of her was the memories kept in everyone's hearts as they knew that their Princess was truly leaving.

Another chapter finished! I have exams coming up so hopefully this extra long chapter will be enough for now. I know some parts of the Denial episode was cut out, but I assume most of you guys remember it, so I just kept the good parts that really matter. I know this wasn't as integrated as I would have liked, but remember, this is Amelie's first mission, so don't expect too much. This was really just a mission for people to adjust to the new team format.

For those of you confused about the 'plothole' in regards to Dr. Fate, I addressed that in Chapter 7. So basically, Kent Nelson abandoned the helmet a long time ago, but he had developed his own mystic abilities and created his own costume to continue the heroing act (looked it up on the YJ wiki website, so I'll consider it canon in this fanfic). So basically, since he bonded with Nabu so many times he could access some of Nabu's memories (hence the dialogue in Ch7). So hope that clears things up. Thank you for Guest for bringing this up to my attention!

Disclaimer: I used a lot of the Young Justice script here so reminder, I don't own Young Justice. At all. If I did, Wally would not be dead. Also, I based the words off a script transcribed by ImpulseByImpulse on Wattpad. I don't have easy access to the YJ episodes anymore, so this is what I got.

Answering reviews!
Guest:
Percy is pretty OP, but something tells me that Nightwing or Batman wouldn't be a bad choice.

Thank you for reading, and please review!

Q: What would you do if you suddenly woke up with powers one day?
