It's been a few weeks since the shooting and Erin has full strength back in her hand, which Miranda was extremely grateful for. As Erin and Nicky are having breakfast together, their breakfast ended with a little girl, who neither Nicky or Erin knew, would be a victim of kidnapping.
"Call your Uncle Danny." Erin said to Nicky.
"Shouldn't I be calling Miranda since she deals with kids." Nicky said.
"Call Uncle Danny. Now." Nicky calls her uncle.
"So why exactly am I doing this case and not Miranda?" Danny asked Erin.
"Because I wanted the best." Erin said.
"You do realize that once your fiancee finds out about this, she's not going to be happy with either one of us. Since she's the one that deals with the kids and child kidnapping."
"I know and I'll be prepared for it. Maybe."
Miranda walks out of her ADA's office and grabs her phone when she looks up and does a double take and smiles.
"Hey you." Miranda said then kisses Erin.
"Hi. What brings you by?" Erin asked with a smile.
"I had a meeting with Freeman. So, I got the plane tickets to Baltimore and your father is watching the girls."
"I knew my father was watching the girls." Miranda has a confused look on her face.
"Hey. You ok?" Miranda asked.
"Yeah. Just a weird morning. As usual." Erin lied.
"Ok. So, Chinese tonight? I figured since Heather has a soccer game, we would order out and bring dinner to the game."
"Oh my god, I forgot Heather has a game tonight."
"She doesn't have a game tonight. I was making sure you were paying attention. But Chinese?"
"Yeah, that's fine with me. I gotta get back to work. I love you."
"I love you too." They tenderly kiss then Miranda walks away. Erin sighs and rubs her forehead then walks to her office.
"She's going to freaking kill me." Erin whispered then sits back down at her desk.
Miranda is setting the table with Erin and she looks at her fiancee.
"You ok?" Miranda asked Erin.
"Yeah, why?" Erin asked.
"Because you mixed up the forks and knives." Erin looks down and fixes them.
"Honey, you know you can tell me anything." Miranda said.
"I know."
"Mom? Can you help me with this?" Heather asked from the sun room and Miranda kisses Erin's cheek then walks to the sun room.
"How's the child?" Linda asked Danny and Miranda looks up in confusion as the family is eating.
"What child?" Miranda asked.
"A child was abducted a few days ago, but she's safe now and back with her family." Erin said.
"And you didn't think to call me?"
"Miranda, I -"
"Mom had me call Uncle Danny to do the case." Nicky said and Erin sighs as Miranda looks at her fiancee and Erin doesn't look at her.
"Really? So instead of calling me, the cop who deals with kids, you had Nicky call your brother?" Miranda asked.
"He was the first person I thought of." Erin lied.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize that you ask favors from your brother, who works for a completely different part of the department." Miranda said with sarcasm.
"Just for the record, I wanted Erin to call you." Danny said.
"Do something." Nicky whispered with the side of her mouth to Heather, who wipes her mouth with a napkin and places it on the table.
"Now hold on a minute -" Erin started to say, but Heather clears her throat and everyone looks at her.
"I'm uh...I'm gonna go work my homework some more." Heather said as she stands up, knowing that this was going to end badly for everyone at the table.
"Me too." Nicky said then pulls Sean and Jack away from the table and Linda and Danny are grateful that she did that.
"We have a deal in place that you and I don't work together unless it was special circumstances." Erin said to Miranda.
"And you didn't think this was a special circumstance? Erin, the first person you should have called when it comes to a missing kid is me, regardless of us working together or not. My line of work, I deal with kids every day. Either they were raped, kidnapped, abused or even killed. Or talking to them about trusting the police and that's a freaking hassle in today's society. It's like you couldn't even trust me to find the child." Miranda said to Erin, who doesn't say anything.
"Wow. I have no idea what to say." Miranda said softly.
"Miranda -"
"Don't. Your silence said everything." She looks at her engagement ring and takes it off.
"Apparently, since you can't trust me, I should give this back to you." Miranda places the ring onto the table and stands up.
"Heather? We're leaving." Miranda said as Erin looks at Miranda's ring sitting on the table.
"Miranda, don't leave." Linda said.
"I'm sorry, but I can't be here right now. Looks like faith doesn't want Erin and I to be together." Miranda and Heather head out the door and Erin places her head in her hands as she feels the tears in her eyes. She stands up and walks out of the house and sits on the back porch, leaving the ring on the table.
That night, Erin sits on the couch and rubs her face with a sigh when Nicky walks back into the living room.
"They're gone." Nicky said and Erin looks at her.
"What?" Erin asked.
"Heather's clothes are gone, along with her laptop, printer, all of her stuff. Gone." Erin gets up and walks to the master bedroom and opens the closet door and only sees her clothes in the closet. She sits on the bed as tears fill up in her eyes.
"What did I do?" Erin whispered.
