Chapter 2:
The 1930s
By the time I was born, in 1932, the United States of America had just entered what's known as the "Great Depression" when the Stock Market crashed, and not for the first time, mind you.
I had, of course, not known a thing about mutation and "special powers" because, obviously I was too young. As I grew older, however, I believe that by the time I had graduated High School and went to Cambridge and Oxford, in the UK, I had developed the skill of reading minds, similar to the power of the so-called "Jewish/Christian God". I could sense someone's mind, thought pattern, body language, just about everything. By the time I started the School, Eric had built a machine called Cerebro, with me and UN Ambassador Henry "Hank (Beast)" McCoy, a former secretary in the president's Cabinet in Washington. (I won't tell you which one, because it doesn't matter).
War, as I said in the beginning, is not a topic of much discussion outside of the political arena. But the United States had been through many wars in its almost 250+ years of national life.
Unbeknownst to me was the fact that Wolverine and his "brother" Sabretooth, Victor Creed, had fought in the battles since the late 1800s. I applaud that and honor both men for their service. I may have Logan tell you more about that in the book.
The first mutant I remember meeting was a young blue skinned girl called Raven, probably named after Edgar Allen Poe's poem of the same name. We in the X-Men called her Mystique, because, of course, she was mysterious. She was beautiful and her power was incredible to behold. Her acrobatic talent was very useful in the times when she and I fought each other on our respective sides of the conflict.
