Chapter 11:

Days became weeks, and soon it was a month later. Rosalie was still committed to her weight-loss plan and it seemed like she was seeing results. Her clothes were a lot looser and she felt lighter, but still she wasn't fully satisfied with how she looked. To her, her stomach still looked huge and she didn't have a thigh gap or skinny arms. Yet she wasn't giving up. She had her Pro-Ana friends rooting for her and she knew that if she kept going, she would eventually be happy…hopefully. It wasn't easy though. Temptations lurked everywhere and all she wanted was to binge on anything she could get her hands on, but she tried to stay strong. It was almost painful at times to starve, but if she was losing weight, then what she is doing is working.

Her mother did end up sending her to a psychiatrist, kicking and screaming along the way. She did NOT want to speak with anyone and for the first couple of sessions, she refused to talk at all. By the third session, she did start talking, but she refused to talk about what happened to her or really anything of importance. The only thing that 'worked' was being given a journal by her psychiatrist, albeit she wrote down only positive things so that when the psychiatrist read it, all looked 'good' in his eyes. Just recently he told her mother that Rosalie was responding well which made her mother so happy and all Rosalie could do was laugh to herself. They were all a bunch of suckers.

It was now the end of July and Rosalie's gymnastics team was gathering together for the month of August to train for the upcoming competition season. Rosalie was very excited because she could finally get back to training and use this as an opportunity to exercise more, but on the morning of the first day of training, her mother changed her mind.

"I don't think you should be going back to gymnastics right now, Rosalie," Olivia said over breakfast. Rosalie, who at that point was ripping apart her bagel with cream cheese to make it look eaten, stopped instantly and was about ready to lose her cool.

"Are you kidding me!? Mom I…"

"Rosalie, I don't think you should be doing any strenuous work while you're still healing,"

"Mom, the doctors gave me the all-clear and I've been doing light stretches to stay flexible! I know my body and it feels ready!"

"I know sweetheart, but I also don't want you out by yourself right now,"

Rosalie rolled her eyes. This was about Will still being out there and even though she was still scared about him returning, she didn't want to let this stop her from living her life.

"I'm literally going to be in the gym at school for the entire day. It's not like I'm going to be out in the open," Rosalie sassed, but Olivia cut her off.

"Rosalie enough! Either you are coming to the precinct with me or you are staying here with the door locked and a cop outside on watch over the building. Your choice,"

"My choice is to go to training!" Rosalie snapped. "Why are you being so unfair!?"

"Rosalie…" Olivia said in a low voice that Rosalie knew meant not to go any further.

"Fine, I'll stay here," Rosalie stood up and shoved her uneaten bagel in the trash before storming to her room. "Thanks for ruining my goddamn life again!"

Olivia sighed as Rosalie slammed the door to her room, an all too familiar sound since Rosalie came home from the hospital. She felt bad that she wasn't letting Rosalie attend her gymnastics practice, but this was the right thing to do. It would be safer for her daughter to be at home and under supervision with William Lewis still out there. The bastard was good at hiding because even now, no police department in the entire state has been able to track him down. The entire SVU department has been working day and night trying to locate him but to no avail. It made Olivia angry that they couldn't catch him so there was justice for her and Rosalie, but she wasn't giving up. Once William Lewis was locked away again, Rosalie can go back to all the gymnastics lessons she could ever want and then some.

Olivia finished getting ready for work, waited for a cop car to pull up to the apartment building to keep watch during the day, and soon was on her way to the precinct.

Meanwhile, Rosalie stewed angrily in her room. She was NOT going to be left in the apartment again. She was going to her gymnastics practice, even if it meant sneaking out. As soon as she heard her mother leave, she waited 10 minutes before she launched into action. She slipped on her team leotard which like her other clothes was loose on her. She made a mental note to grab a smaller leotard from the locker room. Over the leotard, she pulled on some yoga pants and a long-sleeved t-shirt. It was the middle of summer, yet Rosalie was always cold for some reason. Maybe once she was outside, she'd warm up. Once she was ready, she grabbed her backpack and walked out of her room. She looked out the window and saw the cop car in its usual spot out front.

"Fuck!" Rosalie cursed. This meant she'd have to take the back way out. If she got caught by the cop, he was going to report back to her mother and all hell would break loose. Rosalie left the apartment and took the stairs down to the first floor. She snuck out the back entrance and ran the long way to Kingsbury Academy. In her head, she was thinking of all the calories she was burning just by running. She couldn't wait to get back to training. She definitely made the best decision today.

Olivia walked into a madhouse. Everyone in the precinct was running around with panic and fear on their faces. This wasn't good. Olivia hurried over to her desk where her fellow detectives were waiting.

"What the hell is going on?" Olivia asked, but before anyone could answer, Captain Cragen came out of his office.

"Olivia, my office now!" Cragen ordered and Olivia felt a chill go down her back. Did something happen to Rosalie while she was on her way to the precinct? She hurried into his office and Cragen closed the door.

"Captain, is it Rosalie? Olivia asked fearfully.

"No…it's William Lewis. This was sent to the precinct this morning," Cragen held out a letter that Olivia took. She opened it and her face went white as she read what was on the paper.

I'm not finished with you or your precious daughter Olivia. You may have won the last round, but I won't stop until you are dead and your daughter is mine. Watch your back, Detective Benson. This game is only getting started. -WL

"Oh my God…" Olivia wheezed.

"Olivia I've already called for extra cars to be at your apartment and we can have someone bring Rosalie to the precinct. I don't want you leaving this precinct and that's an order," Cragen said in his usual stern voice. Olivia nodded, unable to speak. William Lewis threatened to kill her and take Rosalie away again. This was no bluff, this was real. Finding her voice again, Olivia spoke up and said,

"I know I can't be in this case Captain…but I have to do something. Anything. What can I do?"

Cragen thought for a moment before coming back and said,

"You can't be on the case, Liv. We aren't repeating last time, but we'll keep you busy and we'll do everything we can to keep you and Rosalie safe,"

Rosalie walked into Kingsbury Academy's gymnasium with her head held high, but her confidence went away in a snap of a finger when her teammates immediately locked eyes on her. She immediately remembered that the last time she saw her team was when school ended for summer break along with the Peter's Lake party. She hadn't kept up with the talk of the school, but quickly she realized that she was the target for everyone's gossip. Immediately Rosalie wanted to run out and throw up, but there was no turning back now. She joined her teammates on the bleachers and tried to put on a smile.

"Hi everyone…" Rosalie nearly choked out. She felt like she couldn't even talk, that's how nervous she was.

"Hi…" a chorus of girls responded, almost as nervously. 'At least we all feel awkward,' Rosalie thought. She just wanted practice to begin so the attention wasn't on her anymore.

Suddenly the piercing sound of a whistle jolted everyone back to reality. In came Coach Jill Burnside, Kingsbury Academy's resident gymnastics coach. She may be small in stature, but she can give Sue Sylvester from Glee and Abby Lee Miller from Dance Moms a run for her money. One glare can send fear to the entire student body and then some. Next to her was team captain Chenille O'Brien, carrying a seemingly heavy box with ease. Rosalie held back an eye roll as she strutted in looking prissy and proper. Chenille, a senior at Kingsbury Academy, is a 'gymnastics prodigy' and one of Coach Burnside's only favorites on the team. She likes to brag that she has trained with Bela and Marta Karoli at their ranch, but Rosalie doesn't believe that for a minute. If she has trained with the Karolis of all people, then she wouldn't be on this simple high school team at all. Rosalie locked eyes with Chenille at one point and Chenille smirked until Rosalie darted her eyes away. While Rosalie did not like Chenille at all, she was intimidated by her and she hated that.

Once Coach Burnside and Chenille were in front of the team, Coach Burnside was the first to speak…no wait, more like bark.

"ALRIGHT GIRLS!" She yelled. "This season we are going to work harder than we ever worked before. There will be no room for mistakes. I'm going to work your lazy butts into top shape so that we take home Grand Champion at Nationals this year! If you aren't ready to work, leave now!"

All the girls looked pale after hearing that and normally Rosalie would be joining them, but this time, she felt motivated and almost thrilled to be hearing this. If she worked hard both on and off the gymnasium floor, she could not only be a better gymnast for her team, but she could look amazing and finally be perfect.

"Ladies! I'm sooo excited to be your team captain for a third year! Like Coach says, we are going to work hard so that we are Grand Champions this year! We'll be getting started shortly, but before we can begin, we have new team leotards for everyone to wear starting now! Come up one at a time for one and once you are all changed, we can get started with warm-ups!" Chenille said in an overly cheerful voice with an almost valley girl tone that made Rosalie want to roll her eyes once again. Still, new leotards got everyone buzzing as they formed a line in front of Chenille to grab one. Rosalie ended up last in line and as the line moved along, she tried to stand tall and be brave since talking to Chenille made her want to crawl in a corner. Soon enough, it was her turn.

"Oh hi, Rose! I'm sooo glad to see you're still on our team after all you went through," Chenille greeted with mock sympathy and Rosalie immediately felt her cheeks burn. "Let me guess, Medium or Large?"

"Actually, I want a Small," Rosalie managed to say without stumbling or squeaking. The buzz of chatter died as everyone stared at her.

"Um…the Smalls run well…small, Rose. I don't know if that would be the right size for you," Chenille said smugly and the rest of the team began to whisper and giggle. Rosalie wanted to cry. She felt so mortified…but something in her told her not to crumble. Rosalie held her head high and said,

"I know it will be the right size for me,"

"I find that hard to believe," Chenille sneered, but she pulled out a small size leotard and handed it to Rosalie, who took it and proudly marched her way into the locker room to change. The leotard was a sparkly navy blue with gold and silver sequins. It was also long-sleeved which Rosalie appreciated since it would cover the cuts and scars on her arms. As she slipped on the leotard, she prayed that it would fit her. The worst thing would be to have to ask Chenille for a bigger size leotard. Miraculously, the leotard fit and really well too! Rosalie nearly squealed, she never fit into a small before! Quickly she collected herself and strutted her way back to the gymnasium where she was greeted with shocked expressions.

"Woah…how did she get so skinny? I'd kill to look like that!" A freshman murmured to another freshman who nodded eagerly. Chenille looked mad, but quickly flashed her million-watt smile and said,

"Alright girls, no time to dawdle! Leotards on, and then warmups!"

Everyone scurried away to change. Rosalie walked over to Chenille and without thinking twice, she said,

"Guess you aren't the only small anymore, huh Chenille?"

Chenille's face twisted into one of hatred.

"Start stretching Benson," she hissed, and with that, she stormed away. Rosalie watched with a smile. This bitch wasn't going to frighten her, not anymore.

This was going to be the best season ever.

Back at the precinct, Olivia was at her desk waiting for the cop that was in front of her apartment to deliver Rosalie to her. All she could think about was William Lewis. The letter was delivered to the precinct this morning. Could he be planning to strike today? All Olivia wanted to do was rush home and get to her daughter, but she wasn't allowed to leave the precinct without heavy supervision and she wasn't going to pull any tricks at this point.

She thought about Rosalie and how she seemed to be getting better. She found it hard to believe that someone could flip a switch and act all normal again after going through something so traumatic. Maybe it was a coping mechanism for her daughter? Maybe she doesn't want to express her feelings, electing to write them down instead? Her psychiatrist had said that Rosalie was making progress and she wanted to believe that fully, but yet something told her that there was more to the story and she needed to get to the bottom of it.

"Olivia!"

In came Captain Cragen along with the cop from outside her apartment…but no Rosalie.

"Detective Benson, I looked all over the building and even got permission with the supervisor to search the apartment, your daughter's not there,"

Olivia's heart stopped and she was frozen in place. No…no not again…

"Son of a bitch…ALRIGHT LISTEN UP. We need an AMBER Alert issued along with all exits out of the city closed and…" Cragen began to order, but Olivia suddenly stood up and stopped him.

"Wait…before you do that…we need to call Kingsbury Academy. Gymnastics training started today and I wouldn't let Rosalie go this morning…I just want to know if maybe Rosalie went to the school against my wishes,"

There was a pause before Cragen nodded and Olivia turned to her phone and dialed the number she had for Rosalie's coach. Even though she didn't want Rosalie at gymnastics, she now prayed that her daughter was there. There were a couple of rings before finally, someone answered the call.

"This is Jill Burnside,"

"Hi, this is Detective Olivia Benson, Rosalie's mother. Is my daughter with your team at the school?"

"Yes, she is hard at work practicing for this year's competition season and I'd rather not pull her away from training. Is this an emergency?"

"Well…" Olivia started, but Coach Burnside quickly cut her off.

"I must say, Detective Benson, I don't know what your daughter's been doing during the school break, but she's in great shape and her flexibility is so much stronger since I last saw her. Most of these girls slack off and lose it during the break, but Rosalie is on her A-game and I don't often say that to my girls let alone their parents. If she keeps this up, she can be one of the competitors during Nationals,"

Olivia stopped and let that sink in. Her daughter months ago was in a hospital bed with broken bones and other serious injuries. Now she's making strides in gymnastics. She couldn't believe it.

"Look if this is seriously an emergency, I can pull her out, but she and the rest of the team aren't leaving school property until practice is over at 5. I can keep an eye on her and if you need me to pass a message to her, I can,"

Olivia thought about it and originally she was ready to yank Rosalie out of there, no ifs, ands, or buts, but hearing that her daughter was doing so well and would be safe at the school, made her decide to let Rosalie stay for the rest of practice, but she wasn't leaving the property until she was picked up by someone from the precinct.

"There is an emergency but I trust that she will be safe in your care. If you can keep an eye on her, that would be fantastic. She will be picked up by someone from my precinct, I don't want her leaving school grounds after practice is over,"

"Yes Detective Benson, your daughter will be fine and I'll make sure of it. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to my team,"

Olivia quickly ended the conversation and looked over at Cragen who stood there with a mix of surprise and anger on his face.

"Olivia!"

"Captain, she's safe at the school. Her Coach is someone you don't want to mess with unless you want a verbal whipping. I will be sending cars to keep watch over the school just in case and one will be picking her up at 5 on the spot,"

Cragen was annoyed that Olivia decided not to have her daughter pulled out of gymnastics for the day, and hoped that Rosalie would be safe for the time being. If not, then his detective was going to be in big trouble. He finally nodded and Olivia quickly made some calls and put her plans in place. Her daughter can continue her practice and can think all she wants about how she got away with disobeying her, but once she was in the precinct tonight, she was in deep trouble.

"ALRIGHT GIRLS!" Coach Burnside barked. "You all need to work on your flexibility, even you Chenille. I expect you all back here tomorrow same time to work even harder than today. We may have a whole month of practice before school and the season starts, but it goes fast. Go cool off and get your butts home,"

Everyone hurried to the locker rooms to change and leave. Rosalie felt sore all over, but she felt alive. She worked her butt off the entire day which meant that the scale was going to show a better number tomorrow, or at least she hoped! She even skipped the pizza lunch that was provided for the team, for good measure. She noticed a couple of stares from her teammates, but it didn't bother her. Okay, it bothered her a little, but she didn't crawl into a corner as she would have originally. As Rosalie changed and prepared to leave, she was in such a good mood. Now she had to get back to the apartment without being seen and this day would be an official success. She was about to leave when Coach Burnside poked her head into the locker room.

"Benson! Let's talk,"

The rest of the team immediately began whispering as Rosalie froze. Was she in trouble? Did Coach see any of her cuts or scars, or saw that she didn't eat lunch? She grabbed her stuff and went over to her Coach as fast as she could.

"Walk with me," Coach Burnside said once Rosalie met her outside of the locker room. Rosalie nodded carefully as she walked next to her coach. While Rosalie was nervous, deep down she was actually excited. The only teammate that Coach Burnside spent any extra time with was Chenille and this time it was her. She hoped it was for a good reason.

"Now Ms. Benson, I don't know or quite frankly care about the gossip that's been buzzing around the school since June but you're obviously here so that's all that matters. I was quite impressed with your flexibility today,"

Rosalie was relieved that Coach Burnside didn't know much about the Peter's Lake incident, along with surprised that her coach had noticed her during practice.

"Wow um…thank you!" Rosalie managed to respond.

"To be honest, I always saw potential with you and that you could possibly continue gymnastics at a collegiate level, but you were holding yourself back. If you don't let nerves or doubts control you, you can become one of my strongest gymnasts. Something to think about,"

Rosalie now was shocked silent. This was the nicest Coach Burnside has ever been to her and she couldn't believe that she had faith in her to become a better gymnast. It ignited a fire in Rosalie's heart. She wanted, no NEEDED to be better than ever before.

"I won't let you down, Coach," Rosalie said with newfound confidence. Coach Burnside gave a nod in approval and they continued walking outside. In front of the school building was a cop car and as soon as the window of the car rolled down, she froze. It was the cop that's always stationed outside of her apartment. How did he know she was at school!?

"Rosalie Benson? I'm here to bring you to your mother's precinct," The cop greeted.

"Sir I need to see your license before I let her go anywhere with her!" Coach Burnside said sternly.

The cop quickly provided his information and after a moment of silence with Coach Burnside glaring at the cop, she said,

"Alright. Rosalie, I expect you at tomorrow's practice. Get a good night's sleep,"

Rosalie wanted to bolt but she couldn't. She slowly got into the car and soon they were on their way to the precinct.

"Thought you could sneak out huh? Thank goodness your mother thought of calling your school first before we started declaring you a missing person," the cop said simply and Rosalie felt like her heart was going to explode.

"What's going on?" She managed to choke out.

"Your mother will tell you when we get to the precinct,"

That's when it finally hit Rosalie. She was in deep shit now.

The minute Rosalie entered the precinct, Olivia launched from her desk and ran to her daughter, pulling her into the tightest hug. She breathed a sigh of relief that her daughter was safe and sound, but quickly she leaned towards Rosalie's ear and whispered,

"Interrogation Room 1 now,"

Rosalie knew by her mother's scary calm tone, that this was the calm before the storm. The two walked to the Interrogation Room, and once Olivia closed the door, all hell broke loose.

"WHAT IN THE WORLD WERE YOU THINKING ROSALIE?! I told you no gymnastics and to stay in the apartment, but you completely disobeyed me. What if something happened to you along the way?!" Olivia yelled angrily. Rosalie crossed her arms and looked away as her mother yelled. Once Olivia was done, she added in an equally angry tone,

"Well…what do you have to say for yourself? Please, enlighten me on why you would be so dumb as to sneak out and go to gymnastics against my wishes? Well? I'm waiting!"

Rosalie was silent, feeling her mother's glare pierce into her. She thought it over until finally she looked at her mother with tear-filled eyes and said,

"Mom, for the first time since what happened, I was happy. All I wanted was to be happy again and gymnastics is what does that for me. I know you didn't want me to go, but I couldn't just stay home or go to the precinct. I needed to go. The entire time I was able to train and if I needed to stop because of my ribs, I stopped. Coach Burnside told me that she was impressed with me and that if I work hard enough, I can be on a college team! It's giving me a purpose to keep going!"

Rosalie paused, before changing her tone to pull a heartstring or two.

"Mommy, I know you're angry and I'm sorry, but this is what I needed to do,"

Both mother and daughter were silent. Olivia thought it over and even though she was still upset, the fact that Rosalie had found some joy after what had happened to her made her feel so happy. She let out a sigh and went over to her daughter, pulling her back into a hug.

"Oh, sweetheart. I get it, but this doesn't excuse what you did," Olivia said softly as she pulled away from the hug. "You're grounded for the rest of this month and you will be coming with me to the precinct everyday…and even though you shouldn't be getting this privilege, I will allow you to continue with your gymnastics training if it is truly making you happy,"

Rosalie hated the fact that she was grounded, but was thrilled that she could continue gymnastics. She was about to thank her mother profusely, but Olivia kept going.

"You will be driven to and from practice by me and there will be a police car stationed outside your school the entire day. You are not to leave school property, even if the other girls are for whatever reason. I will talk with your coach about this tomorrow morning,"

"Thank you, Mom," Rosalie whispered. "Really truly, thank you,"

Olivia nodded. She took a deep and shaky breath. Now came the part she didn't want to tell her daughter but had to.

"Rosalie there's one more thing…we have to stay at the precinct tonight and probably for the rest of the week. We can't be home alone,"

Rosalie stared at her mother in shock. "Why?" was all Rosalie could say in response.

"William Lewis sent a message to the precinct this morning. He threatened our lives and Captain Cragen along with 1PP don't want to take any chances. We were ready to list you as a missing person when we found out you weren't in the apartment. Thank God I thought of calling your Coach before we did that. I knew I should have taken you with me to the precinct, but I wanted to trust you as I had before. Baby, I know we are supposed to be moving on after what happened to you, but until we can capture William Lewis again, we have to be careful with anything we do. I'm so sorry…"

Rosalie felt the terror creep into her at the idea that William Lewis was seriously going to try and hurt them again. At the same time, she felt tremendous guilt that she had snuck out of the apartment for gymnastics that morning. She will never regret going to practice, but at the same time, she felt bad for scaring her mother and possibly other officers in the precinct. There was nothing she could do or say at that moment. She just stood there, trying to take it all in as her mother was clearly fighting back tears.

"For now Rosalie, we'll be sleeping in the cribs tonight. Tomorrow we will be escorted to the apartment to pick up any necessities we need. I hope you can understand that it's for our safety…okay?"

Rosalie nodded and took that as her cue to leave. She silently walked to the door and was about to open it when her mother added,

"I love you, baby…more than anything,"

"I love you too…" Rosalie whispered as she left the interrogation room, but as the door slowly closed she could hear her mother begin to sob from inside the room. She hurried down to the cribs, swiping her now tear-filled eyes. She wanted to cry, but she wouldn't allow it. She wanted to be somewhat strong, even though inside she felt weak and worthless. She wished she had her computer or phone other than her flip phone so she can log onto her ProAna chatroom and talk to her friends there. Hell, she wished she had real friends to talk to at this moment, but she was alone. As always.

"Knock knock,"

Rosalie looked up and saw her 'Uncle' Munch standing in the doorway. She once again swiped at her eyes. She didn't want to cry! The older detective walked over to his 'niece' and sat down next to her taking one of her hands in his.

"I know everything is scary right now. All of us here are worried about you and your mother. I promise you that we will do everything in our power to protect you two and once we get him locked away, you will never have to worry about it again,"

Rosalie said nothing. She bit her lip as she forced her tears back.

"Munchkin, it's okay to cry…"

"No, it's not! I'm sick of crying about this! I don't want this to affect me but God, it just keeps coming back, reminding me of what happened all over again! I'm so fucking scared Uncle Munch. I just wish I could disappear and not be me right now!" Rosalie snapped angrily. She yanked her hand away and stood up, wanting to get away but there was nowhere to go. She cursed loudly and whacked her hand against a locker, wincing at the pain.

"Rosalie…"

"I don't want to hear it, Uncle Munch. I just want to be alone," Rosalie cut him off. He nodded and stood up, but as he was about to leave the room, he turned back to his 'niece' and said,

"I'm always here if you need to talk or anything at all. I love you Munchkin,"

With that, he was gone. The night went on uneventfully and eventually, Olivia joined Rosalie in the cribs, her eyes red and puffy from crying although she was quick to write it off as "allergies" or "exhaustion". They went to sleep early since Olivia wasn't allowed to be on the specific case and she was too worn out to do anything else. Rosalie didn't have much do anyway so she slipped on a borrowed NYPD t-shirt and sweats and tucked herself in, next to her mother. Olivia held her daughter close, scared that at any moment, she could be yanked away.

Rosalie stared at the ceiling, unable to sleep for a long time. She imagined her gymnastics team, all probably able to sleep without any worry at all. Their lives going great and perfect…but, not hers. Why couldn't she be happy too?

"You'll be happy once you're skinny," A voice echoes in her mind.

At that moment, Rosalie remembered that she never ate anything for dinner. She went through the entire day without eating. This was good...but now that she thought of it, her stomach began to growl.

"No. I won't think about it." Rosalie thought as she tried to drift toward other things. The sound of her mother's soft breathing, the comforting warmth of her body.

"I am not hungry. I am not hungry. I am not hungry…"

Eventually, she was able to fall asleep.

A/N 2: Hello again folks, another chapter so soon and an extra-long one to boot! :)

The plot thickens...although I'll admit, I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do with William Lewis. Should I create something completely AU or try and utilize what the actual show did with the character? If anyone wants to share their thoughts/opinions, leave a review! If there's something you want to see in this story as well, a certain scene or character, I take requests!

Anyway, I hope you all are enjoying the story so far. Leave a review if you'd like and stay tuned for Chapter 12!
