In proving to be the brother that Emily often lauded him as, Will happily helped Emily move her things to Virginia's place. And it didn't even take that long.
But then he came home to find JJ battling bad nausea.
Will knew his wife loved being pregnant... It was just the illness factor that she didn't like. So he left her to her own device when she fell asleep early.
It was quiet again when JJ woke up again. Quite some time had passed. The house was even quiet.
She came back to reality when her stomach rumbled, and both babies reacted to the sensation. Vigorously.
"Okay, little ones." JJ stretched as she made it out of bed. "Time to go see what daddy is up to. We can see what he made for dinner."
JJ finally made it down to the kitchen after changing into lounge clothes, tying her hair into a messy bun, and removing her makeup. She was not in that much of a mood to look any nicer. Being pregnant with twins while in her forties was really waring. She also knew that Will appreciated even when she looked like this.
He hugged JJ and kissed her when he saw her. "Feeling better now, babe?"
"Mhm. Thank you." JJ sat on a stool at the counter. "How long was I asleep? Did everyone eat?"
Will set before her food and drink from dinner. "You slept for almost five hours. It's pushing ten. We all ate. The boys are asleep. I took care of some chores. After that, I just read."
"Good. My siblings are living their own lives, and Emily officially moved in with Virginia and Zion. The boys are down for the night." JJ arched her back as she felt her youngest children wiggle again. "I just wish these two would take a page out of their brothers' book. Wow."
"But I'm sure they'll chill out again when you're done eating." Will handed JJ a fork from the cutlery drawer. "Isn't that usually what happens?"
Luckily, Will was right. Both twins were very calm by the time their mother was finished with her meal. A relief.
JJ and Will ended up in the home theater after shutting the house down for the night. Both enjoyed the silence of their home. It was pleasant.
They sat together on the couch now. She lay against one arm of the furniture piece with her back propped up with pillows. He was at the other end, with her feet in his lap. Such a position was not always possible when they already had two active children that wanted their attention all the time.
But Will could already see that JJ was thinking hard about something. It was all over her face.
There was nothing for it but to just face the music.
Will got JJ's attention by moving closer to her and playfully squeezing one of her thighs.
JJ let out a puff of air in reaction to the touch. "If you wanted to play, all you had to do was ask."
"I totally do. And we will," he said. "But right now, I can see that something is on your mind. Would you like to talk about it?"
JJ gave a hesitant nod. "Yes, but... This is about Primrose. I know more about who she is when she's off the clock because she's the mother of Henry's best friend, but I don't know much about who she is when she's on the clock. Do you understand what I'm saying?"
Will sat up straighter. "Yes. This is about her 'not unobservant' comment from earlier, huh?"
"Correct. How well do you know her?"
"Enough to know that I trust Prim with my life, same as you trust Emily with your own. She is as solid as they come."
JJ found comfort in this. "Okay. How old is she? I got the impression today that she's seen a lot."
Will thought about it. "Prim is older than us, although not too close to early retirement. She's also the best partner I've had in a long time."
"That's really saying a lot." JJ made a sympathetic sound. "You haven't had the best of luck with partners on the force, have you?"
"I wish you were wrong." lamented Will. "The phrase is 'train wreck,' after all these years. Charlie was asphyxiated. Greg? My first partner? He retired to Hawaii three months before Katrina, but passed away in his sleep from an undiagnosed heart condition. And then poor Aliana Mae... Shot by one one the Face Card Bandits."
JJ wrinkled the bridge of her nose. "That is a bad streak."
"It is. But Prim really is the best partner I've ever had." Will said seriously. "On top of those other top airports she did security for, she also served for a long time in the Gulf War, and she also still found time to go to Ground Zero on 9/11 to help with crowd control. Please talk to me. Something is eating you."
JJ sighed. He had her there.
In something of a power move, JJ straddled Will. He responded by weaving together with her. It was as close as they could be while still full clothed.
"You know I love Primrose, especially because her daughter is our eldest's best friend, but... The last time I worked with someone so determined, I ended up getting sold out and tortured."
Will immediately hugged JJ once more. Her old demons rose to the surface every now and again. All Will could do in these instances was just hold JJ. For as long as she needed.
"Primrose isn't like that at all. I promise." Will slipped his hands up the backside of JJ's shirt and rubbed soothing circles on her back. "She's just a 'take life by both horns' kind of person."
JJ laid her head in the crook of Will's neck. "You sure?"
"Absolutely positive. She's exactly who we're going to want on our side when things get picked back up."
"So… You really do believe that we haven't seen the end of whatever this mess is?"
"I do. Too many unanswered questions in the mix, and then June thought I was my father." Will remembered. "Plus… Cruz. Who do you suppose was leaning on him today?"
"Hell if I know. Mark that down as another unanswered question." JJ sat up again. "Let's just pray that this mess doesn't have any more casualties. June kind of already is one. I just want to solve this mystery without any extreme drama."
Will nodded in agreement but moved his hand further up the backside of JJ's shirt so that it was resting between her shoulder blades. For the second time that evening, JJ arched her back. She knew that Will was hinting at something else. It was no secret that he enjoyed being intimate as much as she did.
"Talk to me." Will openly pressed gentle kisses to JJ's throat. "Just tell me what you want right now."
"But it's like you're already reading my mind." JJ purred as her pulse quickened. "Let's go upstairs. To bed, hm?"
"Alright. We can do that." Will stood and scooped JJ into his arms. "I'll even carry you all the way there."
JJ sighed happily as she made herself comfortable in Will's hold. "Yes, please. I love you."
They fell asleep together after making love twice.
It was a deep sleep, too. Probably the last one they'd have together for a few days. Neither LaMontagne had any doubt that the BAU would be leaving D.C. in the morning.
But...
They had no way of knowing that things were about to change on the turn of a dime.
Again.
