And so here we are, the sixth installment in this rewrite, we are going to time skip into the Index arc since everything that happens in between since the Graviton bomber incident mainly happened in the railgun side of things and that cast won't be a major player occurrence for a good while, they will pop in for slice of life chapters or when something is being hinted at, now like in the prototype story magic and science will be clashing fairly early as the science side will eventually take notice of the irregularity that is Tamamo, but for right now it's time to go into the first major cannon arc.
Godzillahero3: as far as Index arcs are concerned, yes, railgun, refer to the AN at the top, though I might try something with silent party. Servant for Uiharu and Kuroko, I'll leave that up to you all to decide, cause I got nothing.
Kurt930: yes Nero will still be with Sogiita, I love the concept to ;)
ENDDRAGON369: you will get to see the arm and the entity more in due time, but right now I'm leaving it ambiguous like the cannon Index story does, as for if it can rival foreigners, well, I honestly believe that whatever entity resides within Touma is above even those, I know in the Index cannon the strength has varied but I can't help but think that all the depictions shown are just not the full might of the invisible thing, but that's just my opinion.
5ad0wHand: Shit man good to hear from you, I'm so glad you love the remaster of this fanfic and what I'm doing with it, and I absolutely dig the idea of Touma and Seig having a brotherly relationship, consider it done my friend. That and a partnership between Hamazura and Robin, interesting.
tastiera: welcome! Glad you like it.
Side note: there is going to be a piece of symbolism in this chapter, see if you can catch it.
Index/Fate belong to Kamachi and Nasu respectively. Let's begin!
Chapter 6: Index
The Windowless Building, an all white structure that stood in the center of district 7, true to its name it possesses no windows or even entrances, the only way to get in was by teleportation, and inside the building was the director general superintendent of the city, its founder, a figure whose name is etched in scrutiny from a hidden part of the world.
The director general was floating in a high tech life preservation chamber with various yellow glowing power circuits all around, from his position through a very particular footage system he oversaw everything that went on in the city and somewhat outside to a degree.
Coming out of the shadows of the room was a teenage boy with blonde hair and a pair of indigo shades.
"Tsuchimakado, to what do I owe the visit?"
"You should already be aware Aleister, of the new comer to the city." Tsuchimakado pointed out.
"I'm well aware, and it seems she reunited with the Imagine Breaker after 10 years." Aleister responded.
"10 years, so Kami knew her before? Why was I kept out of the loop on this!" Tsuchimakado snapped with frustration.
"Some information is well hidden even from you, as this is a rather sensitive ground to walk in terms of one of my important pieces."
"Well you always have eyes on everything in this city, what do you think of her?" Tsuchimakado questions.
"She is a rogue piece brought here by an anomaly I had not expected, her inhuman nature caught my interest, but recent findings have shown something of a more divine nature." Aleister stated.
"Are you saying we have a magic god here in Academy City?!" Tsuchimakado said in alarm.
"She is not a magic god, she is 'a' god, albeit greatly reduced." Aleister elaborated.
"You're kidding me." Tsuchimakado said.
"No I am not."
"So what now?" Tsuchimakado asked.
"For now we watch and wait, and if it turns out she is a threat she will be dealt with accordingly."
"Kami won't take too kindly to that though."
"It is risk to take but it is an option on the table, I already have to revise my plans due to the boy being exposed to magic to early before the Index even arrives here."
"Well in the meantime if I were you I would watch my every step, I feel like a lot of things are about to change, and it might make things all the more crazy." Tsuchimakado said.
"So it seems."
Kamijou Residence:
"Ok Tama, lets say we go and explore the city a bit, we may have seen the underground mall and one of the many stores here but I think it would be best to get you further acquainted with the city in the event you need to go about on your own." Touma said as prepared for an outing.
"Mikon, I like the sound of that, I'm always happy to spend more time out with you Touma." Tamamo said as her tail swishes with excitement.
Days passed since the two of them found each other here in the city of science, in the time they spent since Tamamo moved into Touma's dorm the two set up a dynamic, something they wanted to reforge since they were little, and so Touma and Tamamo went about by starting with further touring district 7 for a start.
Touma showed her all the various shops and food places to check out, they were going about their business when Touma had to go use one of the nearby bathrooms, Tamamo waited patiently for him but she suddenly hears someone call out to her in a hushed tone.
She looked over to see what looked like a couple of agents waving over to her to a nearby alley way, she was rather suspicious of this but her curiosity was kicking in.
"Excuse me miss, we work for the board of directors and we want to take your picture for registry purposes." One of the men said.
"I highly doubt it's that simple." Tamamo said as her eyes narrowed.
"Believe what you will but this is most important." Said the other agent.
Despite her opinion of the matter she got her picture taken anyway, and not long after was granted a citizenship card, as she looked it over she seemed pleased that they got her good side, then she got a look at her registered name and her eye twitched.
Her name on her ID was Tamamo...Koyanskaya, of all the last names she was given Koyanskaya of all things.
'Hahahahaha!!! Well now I can't help but find a great deal of amusement in this, how about you original.' Boasted the voice of Tamamo Vitch, Tamamo couldn't tell which one though, Vitch herself, Koyanskaya of the Light, or the dark counterpart.
'Shut up Vitch, don't get a big head from this.'
'Oh hush, eventually that boy will know of that name, and I'll have you know if any of the three of us meet him face to face, well perhaps we can have a bed partner before breaking him, such iron will, the idea of testing its limits gets us all sorts of tingly.'
Tamamo started beating at her own head in hopes to shut them up, but it wasn't working as it only made them laugh.
"Tama?"
"Ah, Touma, done already I see." Tamamo stammered.
"What are you doing are you ok? You were hitting yourself." Touma said with great concern.
"Oh, it's nothing really, I'm just trying to think of any fun things to do from seeing all the different places you know." Tamamo quickly said.
"If there is something you want to talk about, you know I'm always willing to listen, I want to make sure you're ok, we trust each other right?" Touma asked with caring concern.
Tamamo had a crestfallen expression on her face hearing that, she did trust him but she was so scared, she doesn't want him to hate her, but she knows he probably has lots of questions since he already met Amaterasu, she can't hide or avoid it forever.
Tamamo walked up to Touma and embraced him tightly, he was initially confused but held her close whispering soothing words to her.
"I'm a bad girl Touma, and there's so much I want to tell you that you deserve to know but I'm so scared." Tamamo said in a hushed tone as she started crying.
"If and when you're ready to tell me I'll be right here to listen to you always." Touma responded.
He then caressed her face affectionately wiping her tears as they fell with his thumb, they both looked deeply into each other's eyes as if having a silent conversation, there hearts beating in sync as they looked longingly at one another, without thinking the two slowly closed the distance between them and lightly pressed their lips together.
The kiss lasted a few seconds but to them it was eternity, when they finally separated they looked at each other once more with glistening eyes before realization finally settled and the two backed away to give breathing room while their faces were utterly red, Tamamo looked away with a hand over her mouth as her mind was running a race track.
Meanwhile Touma was totally lost in thought at what he had just done, sure he loved Tamamo but this was something else, and he was trying desperately to make sense of it all, he finally worked up the nerve to face her again, and in doing so was stunned to see Tamamo with her arms behind her back as she had a look that was a mixture of bashful girl, and a maiden in love, there was a gentle breeze which tussles her hair a bit, and a smile so breathtaking it gave her an aura like sunlight, Touma could only imagine if her fox features were visible her tail would be swaying.
"Um, let's continue with the day, we still have so much to see you know." Touma said nervously as he pinched his cheek and pulled it a bit.
Tamamo could only stifle a small laugh, but continued to follow Touma's lead, night eventually fell and the duo found themselves just outside of a diner called Joseph's.
"I had so much fun Touma, even 10 years later I never find myself ever being bored when I'm with you, and I always imagined countless get togethers during the time we were apart." Tamamo said with great fullness in her voice.
"Come on Tama you give this Kamijou too much credit then he deserves, I'm just as glad to spend time with you like the old days, they are memories I'll treasure forever." Touma responded in humble embarrassment.
"I think things are improving for you, not a single bad thing has happened to you the entire day."
Touma's breath caught when he heard that, and his face had a look of worry on him, normally when he has a string of good fortune it's met with an equal misfortune later.
"Touma what's wrong?" Tamamo asked.
"Nothing Tama, let's just go inside." Touma suggested.
Shrugging Tamamo followed him into the diner, it was a decent looking place, likely for an icebreaker first date if anything.
"Touma I'm going to use the bathroom if you don't mind."
"Not a problem Tama, I will find us a good spot in the meantime." Touma said.
Once the two split off Touma immediately noticed some punk trying to flirt with a girl younger then him, but not just any girl it was Zapper.
'Oh great I know how this is going to go, well better jump in and keep things from getting out of hand.' Touma thought as he mentally sighed.
Meanwhile Tamamo was done taking care of business and was washing her hands while humming a little tune.
"Hello OG!! How are you holding up?" Perked a chipper voice.
Tamamo looked up to the mirror to find not Amaterasu but Tamamo Cat this time, sporting a red sleeveless kimono that contrasts with the blue one Tamamo usually wore, she had a cat like expression on her face, the most stark difference between Cat and Tamamo herself was her hands and feet had furry beast like claws, whether they were actually part of her or they were something she always wore, who knows.
"Cat?! What are you doing there?" Tamamo asked.
"What I can't say hello, well that's rude don't you think."
Tamamo then noticed something moving about in between Cat's Bosom, and what looked like a tiny fox tail peeked out of the top of the luscious valley waving about, Tamamo stared dumbfounded before speaking.
"Um...Cat, you have something right-"
Cat looks down before Tamamo could finish and frowned.
"Tamaki you little rascal get out of my cleavage, what did I say about hiding there when I'm not looking."
"Wan!" Said a little voice as what looked like a mini lookalike of cat peaked its head out of her breasts.
"Oh!! What the heck?" Tamamo blurted out.
"Yeah you're not seeing things OG, this is a mini version of me, her name is Tamaki." Cat explained as the little trouble maker crawled to her left shoulder and perched itself there.
"How did she come to be?" Tamamo asked.
"Remember when you split your eight other tails and inadvertently brought me and the other Tamamos' into being, well I ended up pulling a you and plucked a hair from my tail, the result is this little one right here, she's a bit wild so it's been hectic looking after her, she can be troublesome."
"Hmph! I remember you and the other seven causing me and Hakuno a whole heap of trouble back in the S.E.R.A.P.H on the Moon Cell, so this can be considered Karma Cat."
"Well jeez if you're gonna be hung up on that mess, I for one would rather look passed the Foxtail wars, and besides, you and I ended up fighting side by side in the Grand Orders, with Vitch of all people!" Cat defended herself.
"Wan!" Tamaki voiced.
"Is that all she says?" Tamamo asked.
"I've been trying to teach her how to talk recently, come on Tamaki, say hello."
"Wan."
"No! He-llo."
"Wan!"
"Watch my lips, he-llo."
"Wan, Wan!"
"Nooo!! Not wan!" Cat said dejected.
Tamamo watched the exchange with interest before a devious idea sprung into her head.
"MIKOOON!!"
"MIKON!!" Tamaki parrots.
"Damn you OG!!"
"Rotten luck!!" Sounded the voice of Touma.
"Looks like the cutie out there is in trouble, you might want to help him OG, see ya!" Cat said as she and Tamaki faded out leaving Tamamo's reflection.
Tamamo quickly left the bathroom and looked around for Touma but didn't see him anywhere, so she thought she could track him by scent.
Touma POV:
Just as Touma feared, his bad luck kicked in to the eighth degree and here he was being chased by a bunch of thugs, what was he thinking getting between one of them and Zapper anyway!
After a bit of running he ended catching his breath on a bridge, it seems he finally lost them back there.
"What was that about?" Said an all to familiar voice as Touma looked back to find none other then Misaka walking towards him.
Tamamo POV:
Tamamo was running down the street following Touma's smell when she came upon an array of bodies on the ground, they were twitching and groaning meaning they were alive, seems as though they were hit with a high voltage electric shock, she then heard a boom in the distance and decided to follow the noise, likely trouble, but she knew that Touma and trouble walk hand in hand.
As she got closer she found herself nearing a bridge just in time to witness a gathering of storm clouds lacing up with a lot of electricity, she then saw two figures on the bridge, one was Touma the other a girl she never seen before around middle school age, what was going on?
She then realized that the storm was being made by the girl, she must be an esper, and she was attacking Touma! Tamamo summoned her mirror just as a streak of lightning was about to come down and sent it flying towards the bolt to block it which proceeded to send electricity in all directions knocking out power to much of the district.
Meanwhile Touma and Misaka could only stare dumbstruck by what happened, and Misaka took notice of the object spinning in the sky.
"Is that a mirror?" She asked.
"HHHAAAAAHH!!!"
WHAM!!
Misaka felt a blow to the back of her head courtesy of an elbow by Tamamo, she then walked up to Touma while un summoning her mirror.
"I could have blocked that no problem Tama you didn't have to hit her." Touma said.
"And I wasn't gonna let her get away with trying to harm you so there."
"Well as long as she isn't hurt, let's head home before there is more trouble, we might have no choice but to skip dinner tonight."
Kamijou residence:
The next morning was really hot as summer heat made its presence known, the incident from last night knocked out power from the dorm so everything in the fridge had spoiled.
"Hey Tama I'm about to air out the futon, can you help knock out any dust on it?" Touma asked.
"Sure no problem." Tamamo chirped.
As the two made their way to the side balcony from the living room they came across the oddest sight yet of recent, because hanging there in front of them was what appeared to be a silver haired 14 year old nun in a white habit and robe.
Touma dropped his futon in utter confusion while Tamamo was trying to kill the urge to not punt the young girl off the railing, after 10 years ago her view of church people was incredibly shaky, she hid her fox features and hoped the girl hadn't seen them.
"Hungry." The nun whined.
"Huh?" Touma and Tamamo said in sync.
"I'm really hungry, please feed me." The young sister, said in an innocent tone.
Touma looked around and stepped on an old yakisoba bun, and an idea came to his head.
"Here, why don't you eat this."
"Uh, Touma don't you think that's-"
Before Tamamo could finish the nun had a pleased reaction to his offer and upon thanking him not only bit the spoiled bun but bit his hand in the process.
"Aaaaaahhh!" He yelled.
"Mean." Tamamo finally finished as she looked on dumbstruck.
Not long after Touma and Tamamo were sitting on one side of the table while the young nun was on the other side eating a thrown together salad bowl from Touma made from spoiled ingredients, both he and Tamamo were watching a spectacle as the nun ate without a care in the world.
"How are you able to eat like that?" Tamamo asked.
"This is really good! The sour taste adds a flavor to it." The sister responded as Touma began to freak out.
"Ah! I may as well be the one to end up in hell!" Touma yelled as he snatched the bowl from the girl and began eating it quickly.
"Touma, what are you-!"
Before Tamamo could finish Touma gained a sickly expression as he looked ready to hurl, which he got up and ran to the bathroom to spill his guts out over the toilet as Tamamo quickly followed after him patting and rubbing his back as he threw up.
Once that ordeal was done and all had calmed they finally addressed the elephant in the room.
"So, who are you and how did end up on our balcony?" Touma asked.
"For the first question my name is Index." The now named Index said.
"Index, like the page of a book?" Tamamo asked.
"It's short for Index Librorum Prohibitorum."
"List of Prohibited Books, that is an odd name, it's more like a title then anything." Tamamo pointed out.
"Not surprised you would know that considering you're a fox witch eh." Index said which surprised Tamamo.
With that now said Tamamo no longer had a reason to hide her true appearance anymore, now that she got a good look at Index there was an incredible abundance of mana coming off of her, curious.
"To make sense of things, basically I am the holder of over 103,000 magical grimoirs." Index said proudly.
"Magical grimoirs?!" Touma said shocked while Tamamo was curious about the number of text this girl apparently had.
"That's right...hey your accepting this way to easily." Index said to Touma.
"I may live here in Academy City, but I was exposed to magic 10 years ago when I met this little lady right here." Touma said as he affectionately rubbed Tamamo's head making her lean blissfully into his shoulder as her tail swayed.
"Really now." Index said.
"So where are these grimoirs Index, in a huge storage somewhere?" Touma asked.
"Nope, they're currently with me right now, to better explain I have what is called photographic memory, so whenever I see or read something I always remember what it is."
"And because of that I reckon it made you a suitable vessel for all those books." Tamamo said catching on.
"That's correct, and because of that I've been given the magic name dedicatus545 the lamb who protects the knowledge of the strong."
"Magic name?" Touma asked Tamamo.
"First I'm hearing of it." Tamamo responded.
"Going back to your original second question I am currently on the run." Said Index.
"These buildings are 8 stories high isn't that dangerous to jump roof to roof?" Touma asked in worry.
"Well I didn't have a choice I'm being chased."
That caught the two into alarm.
"Chased by who?" Said Tamamo.
"Sorcerers of a magic cabal, I've been running from them for sometime now." Index elaborated.
"We can help you, if you want we can get rid of these sorcerers for you." Touma offered.
"Can I know your names?" Asked Index.
"Touma Kamijou."
"Tamamo Koyanskaya."
"I appreciate you wanting to help, but I would rather not have you both caught in my problems, if I can make it to the nearest church I'll have sanctuary." Index said as she made her way to the door.
"Hey wait!" Touma called as he reached his right hand towards Index.
"Touma st-!"
An all to familiar glass shattering noise went off and within moments Index's robes were destroyed. And she had nothing underneath.
Index then registered what happened and suddenly she went from embarrassment to anger as she bared her teeth.
CHOMP! CHOMP!
BAM!!
Index was biting away at Touma for undressing when Tamamo rammed a fist into her head on the second bite making her reel back in pain.
"Unbecoming of a nun to bite someone for a total accident!!" Tamamo snapped.
Index quickly slid into a blanket to cover herself up as she glared at Touma while rubbing the back of her head.
"How did you destroy my walking church?" Index questions.
"Walking church?" Touma said confused as he rubbed where he was bit.
"I think I understand, she was wearing magically fortified robes that can withstand physical and magical attacks much like a church building, however with the magic aspect it was vulnerable to your right hand Touma." Tamamo explained.
"That's correct but what's this about his right hand?" Asked Index.
"My right hand has the ability to cancel out any supernatural phenomena." Touma explained.
"I would find that hard to believe if you didn't touch me earlier."
"Hey Touma remember when you destroyed my mystic code clothing when we reunited." Tamamo asked slyly which made Touma blush at the memory.
"He got you two?! You live with a boy who shreds woman's clothes!" Index said in horror.
"I'm not a dress breaking pervert!" Touma snapped.
Somewhere in another dimension:
"Aaachoo!!"
"You ok Issei?"
"Yeah I am Rias, I think someone is talking about me."
Back to the group:
Index flung off the sheets to reveal that her robes were fixed with a series of pins.
"The hell is with the Iron Maiden?" Touma asked bluntly.
"I can fix your robes better if you want." Tamamo offered.
"I really should get going, I can't overstay my welcome of such kind people."
"But Index, are you sure?" Touma said as he tried to stop her but stubbed his tow in the process making him complain about his luck.
"You know when you think about it if your right hand cancels the supernatural then just by touching the air around you negates the miracle of God that brings good fortune, there by giving you nothing but misfortune."
Touma paled and sulked at the idea while Tamamo rubbed his back in solemn gentleness.
"Is there any way we can help you Index?" Tamamo asked.
"Would both of you be willing to dive into the pits of hell with me?" Index asked with a small smile.
The dorm residents only looked on as Index made her exit, she was eventually surrounded by cleaning bots which freaked her out and she ran thinking they were monsters.
"I think she forgot her habit." Tamamo pointed out.
"Maybe she will come back for it?" Touma inquired.
"Oh crap I have class today, here is my cash card and PIN number Tama, treat yourself while I'm out."
Tamamo nodded as she made her way out the door, normally she never went out on her own without Touma, so this was a different pace for her, as she walked she took the time think over the events of the day, it seems as though things will be hectic going forward, but she was not going to be alone for it all, not while she still had Touma at her side.
Such fond thoughts had Tamamo pull out her dragon necklace taking it off to fully look at it, her most treasured gift from the unlucky boy a symbol of a bond she hoped would become something more, so lost in her thoughts of a romance with Touma she didn't watch her step and tripped.
"M-Mikon!" Tamamo cried as she fell face first into the ground and let go of the necklace which to her horror fell into a nearby sewer.
"NNNNNOOOOOOO!!!!" Tamamo cried out in sorrow as all she could do was lay there staring at the small opening to the city sewer system.
Loosing the necklace hit her hard, tears flowed from her eyes, was this an omen? She didn't want to know, and she was to clouded in sorrow to think clearly on that front, only one word escaped her lips, or more like a name in a whisper.
"Touma."
