- Normal POV-
With the issue of the distorted world solved, Alu and Zen were finally given the clear to talk to Naoki and the others about what happened.
" Oh and also, please scold Ren-san as much as possible when he returns. He really caused some problems when we weren't aware. We'll also give him a good talking to when we are back in that world." Aichi communicated
" Um, may I ask...? What exactly did he do?" Alu communicated
After a few moments of silence, Thought Communication sent images of what Ren did in the distorted world. Aichi and Kai had spent some time investigating the trouble Ren had caused during their first few visits but since they were promptly stopped by Emi and the others, they decided to leave the issue until the entire distorted world was restored back to normal.
" This... guy..." Zen had grunted upon seeing the images
" We'll have a good talk with him." Alu communicated
" Thank you."
With that, the communication cut off and the two sighed. Later that day, they gathered everyone else in their group to have their talk.
" Why are we gathered in this place?" Naoki ask
They were currently in a warehouse in Namimmori, the old base of the Shimon Family.
" Because we just received word that whatever that has been distorting a timeline has finally ended." Zen said
" Oh! That's good news!" Miwa exclaimed
" But then..." Misaki said
" Well, there's a need for some disciplinary action for Ren-san. Thus, why we've asked everyone to gather." Alu said
" ... What did he do?" Miwa ask
" Don't be shocked by the sudden images. We're just showing you the memories the Masters let us see." Alu warned
The Thought Communication was linked to the others as their faces darkened at the images shown.
" Woof... guard?" Kamui muttered
" VF... what?" Miwa muttered
" Hey, everyone! Been a long time!" Ren greeted upon entering
However, he got confused at the silence in the room as they glared at him.
" Let's have a nice and long talk, Ren." Zen said
" Huh?"
" I knew you would start messing with something but to think you would actually mess with timelines for fun!" Misaki exclaimed
" Oh, those? You guys found out? It was harmless fun!" Ren cheerfully said
" ... IT IS NOT!"
Their lecturing lasted for a full two hours about how Ren should never mess with timelines.
A few weeks later in Tempest, Youm and his group were finally shaped up to look like champions and they set off, ready to spread the word of Tempest and the Orc Lord's elimination by their hands. On that same day, Rimuru was finally able to do something that he promised Aichi and Kai.
" Are you sure you want to try this? It might be hard to master since it defies the logic of this world." Aichi warned
" Perfectly fine. It doesn't hurt for me to learn something to help me in situations where I can't use my magic and skills." Rimuru assured
" Okay..."
Aichi removed his Rainbow Ring and slid it onto Rimuru's right middle finger.
" My Rainbow Ring will act as a medium for your flames. The flames are what we call Dying Will Flames. It's like high-density energy refined from our own life force. It also relies on the strength of someone's resolve. The stronger your determination is, the purer your flames will be. And depending on the amount of strength your flame holds, there are appropriate levels that rings should have to match your strength, otherwise they'll break after a single use." Aichi explained
" So to summon a flame, my resolve must be strong, is that right?" Rimuru ask
" Yes. Test it out with my Rainbow Ring. It should resonate with whatever flame you can use." Aichi replied
" Hm..."
" A resolve, huh? What exactly is my resolve? For Tempest's future? Or... to protect everyone?" Rimuru pondered
As he thought about something between those lines, a small flame finally lit on the ring. Surprised, he looked at the flame.
" Rain flames." Kai said
" I half expected Sky flames, so this comes as a surprise." Aichi added
" Rain flames represent Tranquility, right?" Rimuru ask
" Yes."
Rimuru hums in thought before remembering the effects of Rain flames.
" Uh, don't Rain flames explode things...? Molecules and such?" Rimuru recalls
" That's when you have perfect control over it. When you do, you can master using 100% pure rain flames. So yes, it explodes things on a molecule level. Other than that, it's mostly used to slow things down." Aichi explained
" I... I see..."
" Besides, this flame is still too small. Maybe you need a stronger resolve." Kai said
" Well, I was thinking of somewhere between a future for Tempest and protecting the citizens..." Rimuru said, scratching his head
" Maybe having a single resolve will work best. A strong one too." Kai suggested
" What were your resolves anyway?" Rimuru ask
" To protect everything I love." Aichi replied
" Aichi and Tasuku. That's all." Kai said
" No surprises there." Rimuru thought
" ... I'll try again."
" Don't push yourself too much." Aichi said
Rimuru nodded as he concentrated on his resolve again. Finally, his flame lit stronger than the previous one.
" It worked!" Rimuru exclaimed
" That's a stable flame." Kai nodded
" Yes. We'll have a ring made for you according to your flame." Aichi said
" A ring, huh?" Rimuru muttered
" Great Sage, can a ring be made for me without asking an expert from their world? I'm just worried that the ring might break because of my magicules." Rimuru thought
" Report. Analysis of the Rainbow Ring completed. Unable to copy, however, the creation of a ring for the flame type using magisteel and magicrystal is possible. Create the ring? Yes/No?" Great Sage informed
" Oh! That's quick! Of course, yes!" Rimuru thought
Rimuru returns Aichi his ring. Great Sage then created a ring immediately for Rimuru. He held the ring between his fingers to inspect it. The silver metal of the ring is created with magisteel, engraved with patterns that look like droplets. The sapphire crystal in the center of the metal shines under the sun.
" Oh!"
" You created a ring?" Kai ask
" Yeah. I was worried that using magicules with a ring from your world might break immediately, so I created one that can light the flame and endure my magicules." Rimuru explained
He wore the ring on his right middle finger and tried to light a flame again. It succeeds as Rimuru sighed in relief.
" Alright!"
" Wow..."
" Well, I couldn't have done it without analyzing your ring, Aichi. It wouldn't have worked if the properties for a flame to light isn't put into the ring, after all." Rimuru said
" But you really can do a lot from just analyzing, huh? I can't help but be surprised..." Aichi said
Rimuru laughs it off awkwardly.
" Anyway, I have a meeting with Fuze soon. I'll see you guys later." Rimuru said
" Okay."
" Thanks for today. Can we continue the training tomorrow?" Rimuru ask
" Whenever you'll be free." Aichi replied
" Okay, then it's settled." Rimuru said
Both nodded as Rimuru left for his meeting with Fuze. Aichi and Kai walked their way over to Shuna's workshop. Tasuku had been playing with her while she had sewed more clothes for him.
" He's growing so quickly every day." Shuna said
" Yeah, he is. His clothes are getting smaller as he grows." Aichi said
" Thank you again, Shuna-san." Kai said, bowing
" Not a problem. Oh! I would like your opinions on a few other clothes! Some of the other goblinas helped me make these for Rimuru-sama!" Shuna said, clapping her hands
" Huh?"
Shuna brought in a few clothes on racks as she passionately explains every detail of them to the two. Aichi gives his own opinions while Kai struggles to hold in laughter. After voicing their opinions, they finally left the workshop.
" She's very passionate about Rimuru-sama's clothes." Aichi said
" Some even look good." Kai grinned
" I wonder if Rimuru-sama will be willing to wear them. Well, I guess he doesn't have a choice. He can't beat Shuna-san when she's determined." Aichi said
" Yeah."
" Every executive to gather in the meeting hall immediately!" Rimuru's sudden communication startled them
They looked at each other before nodding and running over to the meeting hall. There was already a commotion in the hall as some of the executives had already long gathered. They approached Rimuru, who was being carried by Shuna in his slime form.
" Rimuru-sama."
" Thanks for coming at the sudden short notice. We have a big problem." Rimuru said
" What's going on?" Kai ask
" Apparently, a Calamity Class Monster, Charybdis has revived and is now on its way to Tempest. That dryad over there is Trya, Treyni-san's sister. She was the one that told us about its impending arrival. Looks like our forces will be deployed earlier than expected." Rimuru explained
" A Calamity Class Monster?!"
" Yeah. It's called the Ruler of the Skies. So it's an airborne battle." Rimuru said
" We have the obvious disadvantage. Other than the Dragonewts, most of our military forces can only fight on land." Kai said
" Yeah. Meet up with Benimaru to prepare our forces. Gather the Knights too, if you think they are capable enough. Gather the forces at the road leading to the Dwarven Kingdom, that's where we'll be intercepting Charybdis." Rimuru said
" Understood, my Lord."
" In the meantime, I'll relay this to the citizens and prepare for the battle too. See you guys later." Rimuru said
Aichi and Kai nodded as they went off to look for Benimaru, finding him near the entrance of the town.
" Benimaru-san!"
" Oh, good. You two are here." Benimaru said
" How are our forces?" Aichi ask
" We have the Goblin Riders, along with some Hobgoblin fighters and Hakurou. In addition, we also have High Orcs that are under Geld and the Dragonewts under Gabiru." Benimaru explained
" ... It's better to be safe than sorry in the case of a Calamity Class Monster." Aichi said
He sent out a Thought Communication and the Knights immediately gathered upon his call.
" What are your orders, Aichi-sama?" Gaillard ask
" Our opponent will be a Calamity Class Monster and it's an airborne battle too. Can I count on you guys to support our forces and take it down together?" Aichi ask
" Of course."
" Kai-kun. Bring Tasuku-kun to Haruna-san. We'll be making our way to the road in the meantime." Aichi said
Kai nodded and flew off on a cloud.
" But Aichi-dono, even if it's a Calamity Class Monster, surely there isn't a need to be that wary." Neve said
" Don't be ridiculous. From what I overheard, this one will be a tough one. It could even rival a potential Catastrophe Class Monster. Do not let your guard down. I don't want any losses in this battle, do you understand?" Aichi ask
" Yes, sir!"
" I apologize for my ignorance." Neve said
" It's okay. Benimaru-san will mostly be taking charge of giving out orders. So listen to his orders. If he asks for a temporary retreat, do it. Don't rush into danger." Aichi said
" Yes!"
" Let's go." Benimaru said
Aichi nodded as they took the lead and marched along the path towards the Dwarven Kingdom, stopping once they are far enough from Tempest. Kai also joined them after dropping Tasuku off in safe hands and Rimuru walked towards the frontline soon after. Trya then appeared to explain the situation again.
" An offshoot of Veldora?" Rimuru repeated
" That's correct. Charybdis is a monster that formed from a pool of magical energy that leaked from Veldora-sama." Trya explained
" I see..."
" Is it coming this way because it's drawn to Veldora, who's inside of me now? It would explain why it's heading for the town." Rimuru pondered
" The connection to Veldora-sama should tell you of the danger it represents, I believe. First, let me be clear about one thing. You must assume that virtually every magical attack against Charybdis will fail to have any effect. Thanks to the influence of its Extra Skill 'Magical Interference', the flow of any magicules will be impeded and thrown askew." Trya continued
" So... We have to grind it down to physical attacks then." Rimuru said
" Yes... But it will recover the damage as soon as you hurt it. Based on its tremendous recovery rate, we must assume it also possesses 'Ultraspeed Regeneration'... On top of that..." Trya said
" There's more?!"
" It can summon monsters from another realm. It is followed by multiple floating sharks known as Megalodon. And most troublesome, those followers also have 'Magical Interference'." Trya said

Rimuru stared at the ring on his finger as he went deep into his thoughts.
" Heh heh heh! Are you sure you're not forgetting someone? Don't tell me you don't remember who I am!" Milim said
" Milim!"
" That fish may be big, but it's still a fish to me!" Milim said
" Oh, yes! I forgot about that option!" Rimuru thought
" We cannot allow you to do that, Milim-sama. This is our town and our problem." Shion said
" What? Hey, what gives?!" Rimuru thought, panicking
" That's right. We can't take advantage of our friendship to have you solve all our problems for us." Shuna added
" What is wrong with you people?!"
" When Rimuru-sama is completely at a loss and have no other option, only then would we humbly wish for your help in the matter." Shuna reasoned
" Um, wouldn't this exact moment qualify?!"
" Oh, okay..."
" She backed down?!"
That was when Milim's gaze locked onto him and he flinched, trying his best to hide his panic and grins.
" That's right, Milim. Have some faith in me!" Rimuru assured
Aichi went over to comfort the upset Milim afterward. A few moments later, they all sensed a strong magicule and looked up at the sky to see Charybdis and the Megalodon.
" Here they come." Benimaru said
" Time to suck it up, I guess. We'll just have to see how far we get." Rimuru muttered
Benimaru ignited the black flames in his hand and threw it, engulfing Charybdis and Megalodon, only successfully scorching one down.
" Only burned one of its followers. Well, this magical interference skill lives up to its annoying reputation." Benimaru huffed
" Indeed, and also... The head creature, which should have been affected by the blast shrugged it off as if it did not cause an itch." Shuna said
Charybdis then let out a screeching roar as they covered their ears. Then, the Megalodon started attacking. Rimuru and Milim flew high to keep watch over the group. Aichi and Kai were watching over the Knights as they fought one of the Megalodon after being given the order to draw each one away from the group. With his metal arms reappearing, Neve stopped the creature's movements while Ratiee restrained it with vines.
" Prominence Flame!"
The rings on Gaillard's fingers shot out a torrent of blue flames, doing only enough damage to leave burn marks.
" Those tough scales!" Gaillard grunted
" Then I shall assist you. Icicle Blizzard!" Serra declared
The icy blizzard shot out icicles onto the creature as it cried out in pain.
" Now's your chance!" Serra said
" Prominence Flame!"
The blue flames engulfed the creature once more as it ceased movement after the flames dispersed. The four heaved a sigh of relief and let their guards down. That was when the creature roared back to life.
" What?!"
Kai leapt down towards them and incapacitated the creature with a swing of his scythe.
" Kai-sama!"
" Never let your guard down, didn't Aichi tell you guys that?" Kai ask
" We're sorry for our negligence!"
" It's fine. It just means that you need harsher training. Be ready." Kai said
" Yes, sir!"
" But how...?" Neve muttered
That was when they noticed the slice that Kai made was melting the creature's skin and scales.
" We can't use that for food anymore..." Kai sighed
" Is that acid?" Gaillard ask
" Hm? Something like that. My Death Scythe causes corrosive damage that's on the scale of mercury poison." Kai explained
Rimuru, who was watching from above, had an exasperated expression after Great Sage analyzed and reported the damage Kai dealt.
" Mercury..."
" Whoa! The Megalodon's melting!" Milim exclaimed
" So he actually did hold back against Serra..." Rimuru thought, sweat dropping
He continued watching as the Megalodon all fell to the attacks of their forces. Rimuru then looked over to Charybdis after all the Megalodon were defeated.
" That's it for your haughty observation on high. Charybd-"
He paused, listening carefully as an ominous sound was heard coming from the monster. Scales started flying off Charybdis as Rimuru immediately intercepted Shion and Ranga from attacking the scales.
" Gluttony."
The black mass shot out from his hand and absorbed all of the scales in an instant.
" All those scales... In an instant..." Souei exclaimed
Rimuru then flew to land on Charybdis to try eating him with Gluttony but it didn't work, so he immediately applied a corrosive effect on it to slightly damage it before flying off to dodge a beam shot from its eye.
" Ha ha... Guess that made it mad." Rimuru said
" Just as I hoped. If I'm the target, the rest of them can focus their attacks on it." Rimuru thought, looking over to Benimaru
Benimaru catches his signal and nods.
" Everyone attack Charybdis with all you have! It doesn't matter how well it works! Just do everything you can to prevent it from regenerating!" Benimaru ordered
Every one of them launched their attacks with the help of the Dwarven Pegasus Knights that rushed to their aid. However...
- Ten hours later-
Rimuru dodges another attack from Charybdis as he analyzed it.
" The beast is clearly flagging but it shows no signs of toppling yet. And not only are our forces fatigued, but we're also running low on healing potions. It might be time to pull back and reconsider..." Rimuru thought
Suddenly, the night sky lit up in a golden hue as Rimuru looked up to see a giant flower blooming, with a single trajectory beam ready to fire.
" H-Huh?!"
" Ohhh! That's amazing!" Milim exclaimed, her eyes shining
" Notice. This attack requires gathering elemental resources from the surroundings for a long period of time. The caster is identified to be individual Aichi." Great Sage informed
" Are you serious?! He's been accumulating that amount of power for ten hours?!" Rimuru thought
" Everyone, get to cover! It's a Great Magic!" Rimuru shouted out
Aichi made sure the vicinity was clear before taking a breath.
" Burst Element."
The beam exploded onto Charybdis as they shielded their eyes from the bright flash from the blast. While the smoke was dissipating, Rimuru noticed Aichi falling and quickly flew to catch him.
" Aichi! Wake up!" Rimuru exclaimed
Aichi groaned and slowly opened his eyes, barely getting them half-opened.
" Rimuru-sama..."
" How are you feeling?" Rimuru ask
" A little exhausted..." Aichi groaned
" I didn't expect you to actually do this." Rimuru sighed
From the smoke, Charybdis emerged with significant damage but still not enough to defeat it.
" What..."
" Not even that took it down?!" Rimuru thought
" How... dare... you... Mil... Milim!" The growl came from Charybdis
" Huh?! Did it just speak?!" Rimuru exclaimed
" Warning: Signs of life detected from hostile individual." Great Sage informed
" Signs of life? Well, obviously..." Rimuru thought
" Negative. Charybdis itself has no material body. If any signs of life are detectable..." Great Sage said
" It would be from the vessel?"
" Ah, yes. I recognize this presence. I believe it is the Majin known as Phobio." Milim said, her Milim Eye shining
" Phobio... The guy who came as Carrion's agent and got his ass handed to him by Milim? I see. So it was heading to Tempest by following the will of Phobio, its vessel? Huh? But that means... that it didn't really have any problem with the city of Tempest?" Rimuru thought
" Hey, Rimuru!" Milim said
" ... Fine, fine. I agree, this visitor's here to see you." Rimuru said
He sent a Thought Communication to have everyone evacuate.
" What are you saying?! We haven't yet given up this fight for lost!" Dorf exclaimed
" Please, just do as I say. Assuming you don't want to become a casualty." Rimuru warned
" Huh...?"
" The evacuation over here is complete, Milim." Rimuru communicated
" Good."
" Oh, and if you can do this for me..."
" What is it?"
" Could you just destroy Charybdis and leave Phobio behind?"
" That would be easy."
" I have a feeling that eradicating one of Demon Lord Carrion's followers would cause me headaches further down the road." Rimuru communicated
" You worry about the strangest things, Rimuru. But I can't ignore a request from my best friend! I've learned how to 'hold back', as you call it! Here's a good test of my lessons!"
Energy gathered in Milim's hands.
" Let me show you. This is what it means to hold back. Drago Buster!" Milim yelled out
The energy blast hit Charybdis as it was once again engulfed in the blast and smoke.
" Yikes..."
Rimuru squinted to see Phobio's body flying out of the smoke. Kai used a cloud to catch him as they slowly landed.
" Here."
Kai held onto Aichi and sat on the ground while Rimuru looked over Phobio before looking up at Milim.
" You live up to your reputation, Milim. That was a remarkable exhibition of holding back." Rimuru praised before looking back down at Phobio, " What do you say, Great Sage?"
" Answer: Fusion rate of the individual Phobio and the individual Charybdis is over 90 percent. It will take less than an hour for Charybdis to return to power." Great Sage answered
" Really? That short?"
He then removed his coat, tossing it on the ground before moving to tie his hair up into a ponytail.
" Rimuru-sama?"
" Whatcha gonna do?" Milim ask
" If we leave him here, the monster will come back. I've got to completely isolate Phobio from Charybdis." Rimuru said
" Removing Charybdis from its state of fusion with Phobio's body is easier said than done. Once separated from its physical element, Charybdis will vanish into the ether like the spiritual being it is. At that point, it will go somewhere else, find another vessel and come back to life. But I have the ability to capture it."
" Parallel activation of 'Degenerate' and 'Gluttony'. Great Sage, focus on controlling the powers. I'll handle the surgery." Rimuru instructed
" Understood."
" I'll just separate the two with 'Degenerate' and devour it with 'Gluttony'. Simple as that."
After a few moments of utilizing his skills, the black mass around Rimuru finally dispersed as he sat on the ground.
" Whew!"
" ... How did it go?" Milim ask
" All done... It was a success." Rimuru sighed
Soon, the executives gathered around Rimuru as he reverted to slime form. Meanwhile, Phobio woke up and immediately bowed deeply.
" Sorry! Uh... I mean, I humbly apologize, sir! All of this, I did on my own! Demon Lord Carrion had nothing to do with it! Take your vengence with my life alone... Please!" Phobio begged
" Why would I save your life just so I could kill you right after that? I only want you to answer some questions. Go ahead, Treyni-san." Rimuru said
" Thank you." Treyni said before looking over to Phobio, " How did you know where Charybdis was kept hidden? It was a place that only we dryads knew, after the hero entrusted it to us. I do not believe you found it by coincidence."
" I was told of the place by two clowns wearing masks..."
" Masked clowns?" Treyni repeated, crouching down to draw an image, " Did they look like this?"
" No... The one with me was a girl wearing a weeping mask... and a fat man with an angry mask." Phobio said
" A fat man... with an angry mask?" Benimaru repeated
" That reminds me, when the Orcs invaded Benimaru's village, he said that a majin wearing a mask led them." Rimuru recalled
" A fat man with an angry mask... If I recall correctly, there was a higher majin wearing such a mask who called himself Gelmud's agent. His name was Footman. And he was from some kind of 'Moderate Alliance'..." Geld said
" The Moderate Harlequin Alliance. They said they carried out all kinds of odd jobs." Phobio said
" Yes, that's it."
" ... Well, I do recognize the pattern Treyni-dono drew. A clown who named himself Laplace, an agent of Gelmud's..." Gabiru said
" Laplace?"

" ... So we'll keep an eye out for a mysterious band of mercenaries but for now, this day is over. Get some rest, everyone. And you take care on your way home, Phobio." Rimuru said
" ... Huh? But you can't just forgive me!" Phobio exclaimed
" Oh, I'm not saying you were innocent. But you were being used by our real culprit and luckily, we didn't suffer any casulties." Rimuru said
" Yeah, but-"
" Is that alright with you, Milim?" Rimuru ask
" Yes! I was going to give you one good wallop, but I've decided against it!" Milim said, putting out a peace sign
" So she wanted to sock him..."
" Is that alright with you, Carrion?" Milim ask
They turned to see a muscular man approaching them.
" So you knew I was here, Milim?" Carrion ask, " Yo. I want to thank you for rescuing him alive like that."
" Carrion-sama!"
" So you're Demon Lord Carrion, huh? I didn't realize you were coming to visit in person. I am Rimuru Tempest. I'm the Chancellor of Tempest, the nation of monsters here in the forest." Rimuru introduced himself
" Heh! One measly slime, starting its own nation..." Carrion trailed off after seeing Rimuru's magicule levels, " ... You ate the Orc Lord, didn't you?"
" Yep. You nailed it. And?" Rimuru ask as he changed to his human form, " Got a problem with that?"
" ... Fwa ha ha! I can see why Milim likes you! Sorry for letting my subordinate go out of control like that. I hope you can forgive him, and chalk this up to me not paying attention the way I should. Let's just say I owe you one after this. Anything you need, just say the word." Carrion said
" In that case, I'd like to sign a pact of non-aggression with you..." Rimuru said
" Is that all you want? Sure thing. In the name of Beastmaster Carrion, you have my word. Eurazania will never bare its fangs toward Tempest." Carrion declared
" Very impressive, Demon Lord. That's just the kind of wise generosity that-"
Before he could finish that thought, Carrion had slammed Phobio aside.
" You cocky fool..."
" He's like a sports team captain..."
" C'mon, we're leaving." Carrion said, slinging the unconscious and bleeding Phobio on his back, " I'll send a messenger in a few days. And yes, I'll make sure he behaves next time. Until we meet again, Rimuru."
Carrion teleported away after that as Rimuru assessed the damage.
