Lords of the Playlist

Authors note: The Powerpuff girls do not belong to me and as always, they have human appendages.

Greens ages variate between late teens/early twenties.

*So sorry that I've been so quiet for the last several months. I finished up my final year of college and I graduated from my program, so I decided to take a breather. I'll be updating my other stories more frequently now, but here's another chapter of Lords in the meantime.

Track 82: I Believe In A Thing Called Love – The Darkness

If there was one thing that Butch could say about his relationship with his former nemesis – a certain green Puff with an attitude as spicy as the element she was made of – he could easily say it was far from normal.

They were twenty-five now, (or rather, she was) and things had changed in the twenty years since when they had first met each other. One of those things was the fact that the Green's – who were the fiercest out of their siblings, and who had kept up a bitter rivalry the longest out of all of them – were living together.

The more surprising change that no one had seen coming, was that they had slowly progressed from friends, to something more intimate.

No one knew what to call it. Hell, sometimes the Baron of Berserk himself didn't know exactly what to call it, because he was completely aware that the relationship that they had with each other wasn't exactly what other couples did.

Eat. Sleep. Fuck. Repeat.

Throw in a fight that would result in broken bones, a destroyed apartment (or part of the city, depending on the severity) every once in a while, and that was their relationship.

Maybe it wasn't the quote on quote "normal relationship" that most people had, but fuck it, it was theirs, and they weren't normal people.

Far from it.

But they loved it all the same.

They were in the middle of one of their weekly brawls, slamming each other into trees and rocks in a clearing of one of the large forests just outside of the city, since they couldn't very well turn Townsville into their own personal playground as they once had when they were children.

God knows there wouldn't be a Townsville anymore if they pulled that kind of stunt.

Crack.

"Jesus fuck-"

Butch recoiled holding his mouth, as Buttercup managed to land a solid punch to his face.

He felt his blood burn and race in his veins, and his heartbeat pounded in his ears as he covered his now bloody mouth with one hand. Goddamn, she really had no idea what she did to him.

"Not bad sunshine, not bad." He grinned darkly at her, removing his hand to showcase his bloodstained teeth. "Shut up, you asked for this." The raven-haired woman hissed back as she pulled her fist back, ready to deliver a second punch, just as deadly as the first.

The sun was blinding in the clearing. It beat down on the earth and illuminated both meta-humans – their dark features a stark contrast to the bright green environment around them. The sunlight hit his counterpart and Butch watched in drunk fascination as her dark black locks seemed to eat up the light, while her eyes, as bright as limes, seemed to become even more piercing.

He felt the blood roar in his ears as he drank her in. He had to pause for a fraction of a second and admire the way the way time seemed to move slower when she fought.

It was hypnotic, it was a dance, it was a sight to behold.

He could see things about her with his enhanced vision that no mere mortal could pick up on, and it parlayed him. He could see every muscle in her body flex and contract with every movement she made. He could see the sweat glistening against her body like diamonds. He could see her chest rise and fall rapidly as her heart pounded frantically behind her ribs, trying to keep up with all of the strain she was putting on her body.

Her heart – god her heart – he could listen to it for hours at a time without getting bored. She had a special effect on him that only she had.

They collided into each other – simultaneously spilling the other's blood and sending out a powerful shockwave that ripped through the forest, up-rooting the trees that were closest to them as they both finally collapsed to the ground, now both completely worn out.

The sun disappeared behind a cloud and plunged the clearing into shade, almost as if it was a signal for them to stop their fight.

All the same, he was getting pretty worn out anyways.

He panted heavily on the ground, swallowing the blood in the back of his throat thickly as he gazed up at the sky with hazy eyes

"Hey BC." His hand slipped into hers, mouth still bloody, eyes still raw.

"The hell do you want?" Came the raspy response from her a moment later as she gingerly turned her head to look at him. "Had enough, or are you thirsty for more?"

"As much as I'd love to keep going, I think you've had enough." He sent her a shit-eating grin. "Shut up." She groaned as she sat up with a wince.

"and miss the chance to bug you more? Hell no." He snickered as he pushed himself up onto his elbows – not letting go of her hand. "Feel better?" he ran his free hand down her back, tracing her spine through her slightly ripped shirt.

She chuckled, wincing slightly at the action. "Yeah, I'm good, you?" He mirrored her grin. "Never better sunshine."

She narrowed her eyes at him for a moment, almost like she was trying to see through him. "This isn't normal." She finally said after a moment, gesturing around the destroyed environment.

"No, it's not." He agreed with a grin.

"You think we should tone it down?"

"Fuck no. This is us. This is good. Turns me on honestly." he winked at her.

"You're an idiot." Buttercup shot back at him, but she squeezed his hand never the less. "You say that and yet you're still with me, so if I'm one, then you're definitely one for putting up with me." He squeezed her hand back.

Buttercup rolled her eyes and gave him a soft smile, and he felt time slow to a standstill – just like it always did when she smiled it him like that – and she rose to her feet with a slight wince, pulling him up with her – all the while, never letting go of his hand.

"Yeah, I guess I am, aren't I?"

And time returned to normal.
