Track 83: Short Skirt/Long Jacket
"It'll kill ya."
Butch almost choked on his cigarette as the familiar voice cut through the air like a knife. He took the white stick out of his mouth and turned his head a fraction in the direction of where the voice had come from, only to smirk as he noticed a smaller, leaner figure emerging from the shadows towards him.
"Well holy shit BC, it's been a while. Got nothing better to do then to stalk me?" He chuckled teasingly, as he flicked the nub of his cigarette away and straightened himself up against the alleyway wall he was leaning on.
The area they were in was dim, but he knew it was her from her eyes. They didn't have normal eyes like humans did. Theirs's almost seemed to light up from inside their skulls, much like a jack-o-lantern. He never knew why they did that, and he didn't care enough to find out – but he'd recognize that shade of green anywhere.
Besides, no one aside from his brothers or her and her sisters, could get so close to him without him realizing they were there. Humans couldn't sneak up on him, though many had tried – but their steps, especially hers and her sister's – were so light that they were almost impossible to pick up on.
"I have plenty of better things to do then to 'stalk you'" the raven-haired woman informed him coolly as she emerged from out of the shadows. "But right now, I have nothing better on the go. Lucky coincidence I saw you, I guess."
"Coincidence… sure. More like you were fuckin' stalking me." He muttered under his breath, knowing full well she could hear him, and had to fight back a grin as he watched her roll her eyes with an annoyed expression on her face. "I'm kidding sunshine, what are you doing here though? I always thought this area was too seedy for you to be hanging around?"
"There's a bar down here that I'm fond of." She shrugged nonchalantly. "Haven't been in a while, so I thought I'd visit. I was just leaving when I saw you."
He allowed his eyes to wander down her body. Her shiny dark hair had now passed her shoulders as opposed to the short pixie-cut she had kept it in for the majority of their youth. She still had the lean, athletic build to her that she had in high school. He wasn't surprised – constantly saving the city from monsters clearly kept her in shape – he was more surprised at what she was wearing. She had changed up her wardrobe from what he remembered. She was wearing sleek, black stilettos, and a long over-coat over a form-fitting black top and…
"Are you wearing a fucking skirt?"
He was amazed – he couldn't ever remember seeing her in a skirt. She certainly had never worn one in high school and that had been years ago. He had seen her in that tacky dress she and her sisters used to wear as children, and the one long one she had worn to their prom (he'd be damned if he didn't admit that she had looked damn good in that one too), but never a skirt.
Shit, it looked good on her. He never considered her for a skirt person. The thought had never crossed his mind.
She bared her teeth at him. "Yeah, what of it?"
He held up his hands. "Chill, I was going to say it looked good on you." Her shoulders relaxed, and he hadn't even noticed that they had been tense. "Thanks… I guess…" she muttered. "Normally people give me shit since I don't wear one often, and I really didn't feel like explaining myself tonight."
"Meh, fuck 'em. You can wear what you want, I don't give a shit. Gotta admit though, you look fine sunshine."
"Keep it in your pants, or I'll blast it off." Buttercup shot back flatly without looking at him.
And just like that, he felt the lecherous grin that had been spreading across his face melt off. "Why you gotta be so mean?" he whined. "Believe it or not I'm actually enjoying myself right now, don't ruin it." the green puff warned as she leaned back against the wall shutting her bright eyes with a sigh.
She cracked one eye open and gave him a side glance. "Do you have an extra cig?"
He raised an eyebrow. "Thought you said they'll kill you?"
"Butch, it takes a lot more than that to do damage to us, now pass me one."
He did and lit it for her. She took it and breathed in, closing her eyes as she leaned back against the wall. Butch took out a new cigarette out of the pack and stood with her quietly for a moment as both meta humans enjoyed the muted quiet, watching the blue-tinged smoke curl in the stagnant air above them.
Lime eyes cut through the gloom and locked him in place. "You know… this is actually kind of nice." He nodded dumbly, his mind suddenly as fogy as the air around them. "Agreed. Maybe we should do this again soon." It wasn't quite a question.
That got a laugh out of her and she put out her cigarette out on the wall behind her, adjusting her coat. "You know? I wouldn't mind that." She tossed him a look over her shoulder. "I'll see you around, Butch."
He smirked. "See you around sunshine." And with that, she disappeared into the dim of the alleyway as silently as she had come, leaving him with a disbelieving grin on his face.

I want a girl who knows what's best
I want a girl with shoes that cut
And eyes that burn like cigarettes
