"No, I need to hear her voice! Someone call!" Heather said somewhat loudly and Lea held out her hand
"Here Hemo give me yours. If she sees you're trying to call she will be much more likely to answer." Lea says and Heather hands Lea her iPhone since Heather can barely make words right now.
Lea calls and is listening to the rings but she doesn't know there is an important call coming through at the same time. A call that would change everything in a split second.
Lea is calling and listening to the rings but nobody was responding. She called twice before ending the call and sighing.
"Hemo she's not answering," Lea says and hands over the phone trying to keep from getting too worked up or showing too much emotion over what was most likely nothing. The last thing anyone wanted to do was start making Heather more paranoid than she already was.
When it came to her wife and daughter Heather had no control over her emotions, if she sensed either of them were hurt, sick, or in harm's way, she didn't care how she reacted, she just needed to get to them as fast as she could.
"Oh my God!" Heather mumbles while glancing back at her daughter who put her pink chalk stick down because the could sense the tension that was surrounding her. Sophia was always extraordinarily self-aware of the people and things going on around her.
"Momma?" Sophia said barely above a whisper. Heather turns and immediately picks up her daughter and holds her close as the others look on with blank faces.
Meanwhile, Naya was driving down Sunset Boulevard while the music was playing softly on the radio. She didn't have the music blaring because she was thinking and wondering what would happen at this meeting. She had just left the Paramount lot about ten minutes before and she was more than halfway to the recording studio when everything changed...
Naya was going through a busy intersection where she had the green light but before she could turn, a loud sound of scraping metal crashing sounded around the entire area. She barely had time to see that a large pickup had slammed into her car before the car flipped several times and was only stopped by a streetlight that was on the curb and prevented her from smashing into the boutiques on either side. Shrieks and wails could be heard in every direction as people rushed to the destructed Mercedes.
Everything went dead silent. Naya didn't know where she was anymore. She struggled to open her eyes. All she could see was the blood flowing from her stomach, arms, and head. The mangled driver's side door was crashing into her left side and had her leg and arm pinned. A piece of metal was cutting into her arm and leg. The pain was so violent and excruciating that even her body didn't know how to deal with it. She felt cold as if all her blood was deserting her limp body. She let out what felt like her last breath before everything went dark.
"Ugh, beautiful! Please pick up the phone, honey! I need to know you're okay!" Heather sighed desperately before she got Naya's voicemail and clicked end call. Heather threw her head back and then brought her head back down to look through the call log when her eyebrows knitted together and she knew her heart skipped several beats.
"Oh God, the police station called me!" Heather announced in a panic tone and everyone's faces were in their hands because they were all starting to panic too. Naya would have for sure been there by now, even with traffic.
"Call them Heather..." Chris said calmly but urgently and Heather instantly picked up the phone.
"Momma," Sophia said while beginning to get teary-eyed and overwhelmed. She had no idea what was happening but the atmosphere went from 100 to 0 in a matter of minutes and she knew something was terribly wrong. Heather immediately hugged her daughter knowing her little four-year-old mind was trying to process something a group of adults could barely do. She was snuggling her little Naya lookalike as close as possible.
"She's unconscious!" a paramedic shouted as he was checking Naya's heartbeat through the broken window. A faint pulse was detected but they had to get her out fast because she was bleeding severely from several areas including her head and stomach.
Another paramedic zigzagged through the debris to reach her partner. "Can you see injuries?" she yelled to her partner who checked her heartbeat through the mangled driver's side door.
"I can't see anything through the airbag! Hold on," he exclaimed over the noisy mess of other firefighters using the jaws of life to try to pry open both the driver's side and passenger side door. They needed access and fast. How anyone was still alive in this car was hard to believe...
The female paramedic was fumbling around the inside of the busted door to see if she could open it. She quickly recognized that the inside had smashed and folded hard on itself, making the undertaking near impossible. There was no room between the door and Naya.
The paramedic's eyes kept flinching from the mess of metal and ripped leather back to Naya conserving the shallow rise and fall of her chest. The paramedics were frantic at this point, praying that they'd get this woman out of this metal death trap.
The female paramedic peeked over her partner's shoulder to observe the magnitude of the injuries. "Can we open the door?"
"No, it's way too damaged inside. We will have to saw through it."
"Damn it!... I'll get help," her co-worker ran towards the firefighter who instantly came when he noticed the paramedic.
Through the shattered window, the paramedic tried to push the airbag away, grunting through the effort until it deflated. He checked Naya every few seconds and each time she was moving, when if it was only slightly, looking for signs of irritation or distress. Naya would wail when the paramedics were trying to check for broken bones and they could definitely see her arm was likely broken. The female paramedic was trying her best to talk to her and keep her calm to prevent her heart rate from skyrocketing since she was losing so much blood. The paramedic was still reaching through the window because they still hadn't gained access to the vehicle.
The firefighters are running towards the totaled Mercedes with the jaws of life to begin sawing the doors open. The female rushed inside the backseat door on the right side when it was pried open and climbed inside to get to Naya. That's the least helpful of all the doors since they couldn't get her out from there but at least they were able to get a paramedic in contact with her.
The female paramedic slid across the backseat and climbed in gingerly when the male fireman revved the saw and began to cut through the twisted metal.
Naya was hearing and listening to everything while she went in and out of consciousness, she was trying her very best to hang on but she was growing weaker and weaker. She couldn't move but could feel the liquid, which was blood, running down her head into her hair and down her cheeks. She knew it was blood. She needed Heather so badly. She needed her wife to hold her and tell her everything was going to be okay. The paramedic was observing her injuries and trying to reassure her quietly. Naya was petrified, her body but her body was frozen and would refuse to move. Naya's arm and leg here killing her even though she hasn't moved them an inch. Her stomach and head were throbbing. Naya couldn't open her eyes, she couldn't move her fingers. The sound of metal crashing and scraping, her door ripping apart, deafened her. She wanted to scream for everybody to stop because the vibrations of the saws were excruciatingly painful.
When the paramedics and firemen yanked the door off the hinges, the chunk of metal that had been jammed into her skin felt even more painful now that they were examining all the wounds.
"Keep her still while I check how deep it is," the male paramedic ordered. Naya was shrieking and wailing in pain. She needed Heather.
The paramedic began to pull at Naya's clothes to see where the piece of metal and glass were piercing her tanned skin.
"Okay, I can see now. The piece is in her lower ribs and a large chunk of glass is in her arm which looks broken."
"How far is the metal that is piercing her ribs?" A paramedic asked but she didn't look up.
"I don't know..." another male paramedic answered. Until they remove it he had no way to tell how long the piece was.
"Do you think we can pull her out with it? We have to let the hospital do that when she arrives, she will lose too much blood if we remove it on sight." her co-worker said worriedly.
"We will have to, I can't work like this. We need to get her on a gurney and get her to the hospital now!" The female paramedic responded.
"We need help!" the male paramedic shouted to another paramedic. Several rushed over seconds later with a gurney. Several police cars showed up but Naya couldn't see them. There were tons of them surrounding the pickup that crashed into Naya and ran the red light. They were all talking amongst each other rather urgently from where the paramedics observed.
Each second was critical. Another squad of policemen was on site who were trying to keep the paparazzi away and arresting anyone that dared to step into their boundary markers. Of course, there were intrigued pedestrians who were stopping and watching because it happened on one of the most popular intersections in LA. Vehicles were stopping to see why so many cameras were pointing at a broken car. The police team tightened their squad so no one could see the rescue work as another paramedic rushed through them, running from another truck.
"What's the best method?" The female paramedic asked breathlessly.
"We need to take her out immediately, grab her legs!" the paramedic in the car instructed. Three large firemen and paramedics were trying to maneuver around the broken glass, metal, and debris that surrounded Naya. They all struggled through the clutter of airbags and broken metal to get a decent angle to pull her out.
"Oh fuck, let's get her on the gurney quick." She has several major lacerations on her body so they didn't know what kind of damage was hidden underneath the skin. One of Naya's paramedics rushed out when only Naya's legs were left to be removed from the vehicle.
She scowled darkly at him. All the female paramedic cared was about the fact that they couldn't give Naya any painkillers, or any other medication that could alleviate the intense pain until she got to the hospital and was properly examined.
They put Naya on a stretcher as she shrieked from the light jostling. Naya needed her wife more than anything. the paramedics rushed her through as fast as they could to hide her from the prying eyes and paparazzi. When they loaded Naya onto the ambulance they were able to get a good look at just how bad the accident really was as Naya groaned and softly regained consciousness.
"Ma'am, can you hear me? Can you speak or squeeze my hand?" The female paramedic said softly, holding onto her hand hoping Naya would react.
"Mhmm..." Naya grumbled in pain and confusion, while her eyes blinked over and over again slowly.
"Ma'am, I'm gonna take care of you until we reach Cedars Hospital," she said unhurriedly and assuredly, moving her head each time Naya did, trying to keep her as alert and awake as possible. They couldn't have her losing consciousness again. The paramedic checked her pupils, looking for concussion symptoms. "Do you remember what happened?" the paramedic finished
"The... Tru-... Truck..."
The paramedic breathed out in relief that the woman seemed to be remembering something which was a good sign.
"That's right, a pickup crashed into you on your side of the vehicle. Can you tell me where it hurts?" the female paramedic asks scanning the woman's body now that she was lying flat trying to make sure there weren't any other injuries they were priorly missed.
"M-my... stomach...arm...leg...everywhere..." Naya cried out in agony at her skin being sliced open by jagged metal and glass while her arm was throbbing. Suddenly, Naya was jolted into a thought that came over her and tensed.
"My baby!..." Naya yells frantically while twisting her head as much as possible seemingly forgetting that Sophia was not in the vehicle with her and she stayed at the studio with Heather. Her injured hand, covered in blood and scratches from when she had tried to protect herself, tried to move but couldn't without crying out in pain. The paramedic stopped the motion as they prepared to leave the scene and head to the hospital.
"Don't touch, I need to clean it first," the female paramedic said firmly as she finished her examination. She carefully inspected the piece of metal sticking out from Naya's bleeding skin. She tried to identify where on the door it could have come from so she could determine how deep the piece was; she had an idea, but she wasn't sure the piece was actually as deep as it seemed to be.
"Tell me more about you, what's your name?" the paramedic asked softly trying to keep Naya alert and focused until they arrived at the hospital.
"Na...Naya...Rive...Rivera...Morris." Naya breathed out in between spasms of pain that were taking her breath away.
"You're in good hands Naya, you are on your way to Cedars where they will take excellent care of you. The hospital has been notified so they know you are coming. Are you married? I can see you have nice wedding rings," the female paramedic added with a caring smile as she sat in the seat opposite the gurney.
"Ye...yes" Naya breathed out while her eyes scrunched up in pain.
"What is your spouse's name?" the paramedic asked as calmly as possible so she wouldn't make Naya more anxious.
"He...Hea" Naya trembled when a jolt of pain from her abdomen and arm spasm at the same time.
"I didn't hear her name, can you repeat it?" The paramedic asked while remaining calm and determined.
"Hea..." Naya sobbed out both from pain and needing her wife more than anything.
"My wife...my baby..." Naya cried out, barely audible, she was way too lost in her distress and pain.
"I didn't hear your wife's name, can you tell me her name," the female paramedic urged. Naya couldn't answer because it was as if her body was being ripped apart, it felt like she was being burned alive from the severity of the pain yet she was freezing, most likely from the severe blood loss. "Come on Naya, please give me her name." The paramedic prompted.
"Heather... ugh fuck!..." Naya screamed through tears.
"Her full name, give me her full name," she demanded afraid to lose Naya. "Come on, tell me!"
"Heather...Ri...Rivera...Morris...Call h... " Naya's voice wailed. She needed her wife desperately.
The paramedic frowned, wiping one of Naya's wounds that were bleeding pretty heavily. "I'm sorry?"
"Call- her... 212- 3..." Naya breathed out staggered between rushes of pain, focused on giving the right number and clearly.
"212...374...2230..." Naya exhaled as the paramedic wrote it down and held it up for Naya to confirm it was written correctly.
"Adam!" The female paramedic called out through the doors that were left ajar to the front of the ambulance where the driver and passenger seats were located. Adam who was sitting in the passenger seat of the front of the ambulance looked back at the female paramedic who was sitting in the back across from Naya on the gurney.
She handed him the sheet. "This is her wife's phone number. Call her now so she can meet us there!" Adam grabs the paper and nods.
Heather picked up the phone immediately and answered the local unknown number. Everyone's gazes shifted to Heather not knowing who was on the other line. Sophia was sitting sideways on her lap cuddled into her momma.
"Hello?" Heather said hesitantly. She didn't need this to be one of those fan prank calls. She rarely got them but it did happen.
"Hi, am I speaking to Heather Rivera Morris?" Adam the paramedic asked over the phone.
"Yes, you are. Can I help you?" Heather said hesitantly and nervously. She's been on edge for the twenty minutes since her wife has left. She almost wishes she just would have asked her to stay. She doesn't know what the hell is going on with how she's feeling but today has been weird.
"Your wife...I'm afraid she's been in a pretty intense car accident." Adam informed Heather.
"NO!" Heather screamed startling everyone. "NO! Oh my God! Is she alive?! Is she alright?!" Heather rushes out in complete panic. She's pretty much blacked out herself. All her friends gasp and stand just as panicked. They knew it was bad without having to hear any more of the conversation.
"She's alive but badly injured. Please meet us at Cedars emergency entrance as soon as possible. We should be there in three minutes. She's been pleading for you." Adam says before they hang up the phone. Heather breaks out in violent sobs as she moves to stand up with Sophia crying in her arms.
"Momma! What's happening?" Sophia cried out in distress. Heather didn't want to lie because Sophia was too damn smart for that and knew she would want to be with her mami.
"Heather, what the hell happened?" Amber rushed as they all stood grabbing their bags knowing the day was done.
Heather was sobbing clutching her daughter while racing to the cars.
"Who has their keys?! I need to get to the hospital?!" Heather cried out inconsolably
"I can...everyone let's go!" Chord yelled out.
"I'll drive the rest of us...Hemo what the hell happened?!" Harry yelled, everyone was frantic and losing their patience and sanity.
"Naya was in a bad car accident. I don't know anything else other than it was a huge crash and they are rushing her to Cedars and she was asking for me. Guys, I have to get to Naya!" Heather wailed while clutching her daughter impossibly close. Everyone gasped and many started crying.
"NO! Oh God Naya! Guys let's go! Get in any damn car and let's move it!" Amber shouted
"Wait. Does anyone have a car seat?!" Heather realized
"I do!" Chis said frantically getting the keys for his SUV. We can take mine instead of Amber's. Let's move it!" Chris finished as they all run to the two vehicles.
"Momma!" Sophia screamed and everyone's hearts were breaking. The poor girl had no idea what was happening and why everyone was frantic, crying, and moving at the speed of light.
"Oh my little love, momma's got you," Heather said as a group piled into Chris' vehicle and the other half jumped in Chords.
"Mami!" Sophia wailed and the girl's hearts broke into pieces. Heather clipped the buckles of the seat and Chris peeled out of the parking lot right away.
"I know my little love, I know. Listen to me okay." Heather asked and Sophia's aqua eyes looked at her and her heart was shattered. "I'm going to tell you something but I need you to listen to me okay? Can you do that?" Heather hesitated but knew her daughter inside and out and she knew she needed to know. Sophia slowly nodded and frantically started wiping her tears with her little fists as Heather and Jenna held her hands since they were sitting on either side of her car seat.
"Okay, sweetie. Listen to momma." Heather said and Sophia tearfully nodded. "Mami was in a car accident so they brought her to the hospital because she has some bad owies and they need to make sure she's okay. That's where everyone is going now." Heather said and Sophia burst into tears. Heather sobbed with her. The girls and Chris were in his car and they were all in tears.
"Mami! No!" Sophia wailed and Heather leaned over the car seat in so much pain seeing her daughter like this. Jenna was still clutching Sophia's hand that was closest to her.
"Shhh, my little love, I know. I know. We will make sure she's okay. Abuelo will be there too and we will call our family so everyone will be there with us. Momma will make sure mami is okay and everyone including me will make sure my Sophia is okay too." Heather said tearfully and Sophia nodded but cried as she kept asking for Naya the entire way to the hospital.
"Where are you taking me? My dad works at Cedars... ugh god damn!..." Naya squints and tenses in pain.
"Don't worry, we know about that!" the female paramedic said with a smile. "They told us when we called it in so he's most likely waiting for you. Don't worry Naya, your wife is on her way as well, you'll be with your father in less than two minutes."
"Naya, what is your daughter's name?" she said a tad louder than necessary but she wanted to make sure Naya wouldn't slip into an unconscious state.
"Sophia..."
"Gorgeous name!" she said with a smile, her voice unnaturally high in its aspiration to fake cheerfulness. "What is she like? Is she hyper or calm?" the paramedic kept talking, peeking once in a while through the small window next to her to see if they still were approaching the hospital.
"She's... an...Ugh God..." Santana cried from the pain. It was becoming unbearable and she was getting weaker.
"Shh, we're almost there, hold on! Is Sophia calm? Does she behave?" the paramedic goes on just needing to keep Naya talking as much as possible.
"Sophia's an angel..."
The paramedic smiled but frowned as Naya wept uncontrollably.
"I need Heather and my baby girl. Fuck! I need them!" Naya sobbed grunting and hissing from the severe pain.
The paramedic frowned, compassion shining in her fearful eyes. "I know but I can't give you painkillers before they check you out."
Sophia had managed to pass out from sobbing inconsolably for fifteen minutes. They were about five to seven minutes from Cedars so she knew she had to pull herself together to call their families. Her friends offered to do that but Heather couldn't let their families hear about this from anyone but her.
Heather took out her phone with her shaky hand and dialed Yolanda's number first before holding it up to her ear while Jenna rubbed up and down Heather's arm with one of her hands while the other was still held tightly by Sophia. Heather doesn't know what she would do without her friends. They were literally keeping her from losing her mind completely right now. Amber was on her other side making the same comforting gestures.
"Hi, Heather honey! What a pleasant surprise! how are you, sweetheart?" Yolanda cheerfully greets her bonus daughter but the second Heather hears that voice that sounds like a more mature older version of her wife's, she breaks down in sobs. "Heather? Honey, are you crying? Sweetheart, what's wrong?" Yolanda urges. Heather tries to pull herself together so she can talk and call both parents before they get to the hospital.
"Na...Naya..." Heather takes several deep breaths trying to calm her staggered breathing. Yolanda starts getting worried at the mention of Naya's name.
"Heather? What's going on? Is Naya hurt?!" Yolanda asked getting more frantic.
"She got in a bad car accident. It's all I know. The crew and I are driving to the hospital with Soph. We need you." Heather got out before she started crying. Jenna rubbed her arm and Amber held her since she was squeezed in next to Heather on the other side between her and the door.
"What?! Oh, God! She's alive?!" Yolanda starts sobbing as well which makes Heather cry. Hearing the heartbreak of a mom makes her instinctively glance down at her sleeping daughter who was screaming and wailing for her mami before she passed out.
"She's alive but I know nothing else. We should be there in about five minutes. I guess the paramedics alerted Antonio so he's probably waiting for her knowing him. Can you call Nickayla and Mychal because I won't have time? I need to get to Naya since she was asking for me. I still need to call my folks." Heather asked and Yolanda agreed and Heather could tell she was frantically packing and shuffling around.
"Yes absolutely. Oh, God. How is this happening!" Yolanda cried and Heather wiped her tears. She was getting into protective wife and mother mode now. Her take-charge attitude seemed to be washing over her a little more. She had to be strong for her wife. There was no other option.
"I know. Once we get there and have a room number and floor I'll text you the info. Don't worry about hotels, you'll all stay at our place. I'll see you all soon. I love you so much. Naya will be okay. I'll make sure of it." Heather said and everyone in the car was starting to see that Heather was getting into deep protective mode now. She had no choice. Her wife and daughter needed her.
"I love you too honey. We will all be there soon. Tell your mother to drive safely." Yolanda says before they hang up and Heather quickly dials her mother since they are only four minutes from the hospital.
"Sweetheart! You didn't forget about your old mom! How are y..." Susan starts but is cut off
"Mom Naya was in a bad car accident. My friends and I are all headed to Cedars." Heather got out quickly. She heard Susan gasp on the other side of the phone.
"What?!" Oh my God! We are packing and leaving right away. Wait... how serious?!" Susan gets out while she also sounds like she's hastily packing and running around. "Andrew pack a bag!" Susan shouts knowing how frantic her mother is. She heard her mom explaining the situation and all the can hear her dad say in the background is, oh God.
"I know it was a really bad accident and I know she's alive, that's all they would tell me. We are about two minutes from Cedars but I will text you the room and floor once I have that info. Please call Ashley and have her come too since I won't have time." Heather said
"Of course! Oh, baby how is Sophia?!"Susan rushed out needing to know how her granddaughter was. Heather shook her head and looked down at the little girl.
"Terrible. She sobbed uncontrollably for fifteen minutes crying out for her mami until she passed out from sheer exhaustion. She's going to need you guys." Heather sighed and willed tears away. She couldn't start crying again. She has a wife and daughter who needed her.
Heather feels like she let her daughter down when she was kidnapped by not confronting those security officers the minute she saw them slacking off and the feels like she let Naya down today because all fucking day she felt so damn weird and sent Naya off in that car just less than an hour ago. Heather nearly asked her not to go because her gut told her it could be bad. This will be the last time she doesn't trust her gut because both of her girls are suffering because of her.
"We're coming sweetheart. We will get there as fast as possible. We love you so much. Heather put me on speaker." Susan says and Heather presses the speakerphone button. "Alright you kids, please keep an eye on my three girls until we get there okay? I love you all." Susan says and everyone says their I love you's back to her before they hang up.
"It will be okay Hemo. We are all here for you three." Vanessa said.
"Always," Diana replied.
Heather let out a smile and wiped her eyes before getting back into her tough mode as they approach the hospital. They see Chord's Vehicle right behind theirs and pull up in a parking spot just a few cars away from them.
The ambulance slowed down considerably as they finally reached Cedars hospital. Naya barely had time to breathe before the gurney was carefully rushed out of the ambulance and the doors flung open, Antonio is in lead surgeon mode leading the army of nurses waiting for his daughter.
"Right ribs broken, large laceration and metal lodged in the abdomen, laceration on the left leg, possibly broken left arm. Large gash left side forehead at the hairline along with several smaller lacerations and scrapes on her body", the paramedic soberly explained to the waiting doctors.
"Mija, it's papa honey, I'm going to make sure my baby girl is okay!" Antonio greeted her with a tight smile, already pushing her inside the emergency room lobby. He saw where the major wound on her abdomen was, a mess of blood and dirty clothes, and instantly felt like he'd been punched right in the heart. She also has dried blood on her face from the wound on her head, arm, and leg. They needed to get her examined to check for internal damage immediately.
"I need Heather and Sophia papa. I need them..." she said hoarsely while grabbing her father's arm.
Antonio pushed her into the hospital without a word. He couldn't promise anything. The injury was so badly placed. He couldn't afford words of hope when his head was already considering the worst. People who come in with injuries to the abdomen sometimes find out they can never have kids again if there was severe internal disruption. That would kill his daughter if that was the result of this. He was also furious and ready to go off on whoever this bastard was who hit his baby girl. It wasn't going to be good when they
Antonio was grinding his teeth over and over again, the only thing he could do to ease his own mind. He couldn't stand the idea that maybe, he'd have to tell his daughter the worst news.
"Grab Dr. Lenex from Orthopedics, her arm needs X-rays!" Antonio yelled out to a nurse who was several feet away and she got on the phone and pages the other specialist right away. Antonio was the lead cardiac surgeon in this hospital and acted as the chief of staff twice when the acting chief had family emergencies. He holds a lot of power at this hospital. People don't mess with him.
Naya had a team of nurses and doctors hovering over her stretcher as they wheeled at top speed to an unoccupied OR Antonio had ordered to be prepped for his daughter. Naya was wailing and grunting in pain.
Heather, Sophia, and the crew arrived at the hospital and everyone gathered behind Chris' car as Heather got Sophia out. She was still sleeping from exhausting herself and her emotions from crying so much. Sophia was limp and laid her head on her mother's shoulder as they all rushed inside.
"Hemo, we called Ryan and Zach too and we will keep him informed on the group chat. We remembered as we were driving that we all literally left work in the middle of the day so we figured we should let him know." Kevin said and Heather looked at him appreciatively. Honestly, if it didn't involve Naya or Sophia it completely was erased from her mind.
"God thanks Kev. My brain isn't working right now. I appreciate all of you guys so damn much. I just need to know my wife is okay." Heather sighs and wipes a tear as she approaches the entrance with the crew.
"We love you three so much Hemo. We are all here for you." Lea says and Heather nods appreciatively.
They all burst through the ER doors, a sleeping Sophia was still clutched tightly to her mother. They all approach the reception desk. They are trying to be discreet because the entire cast of Glee minus one person showing up to the hospital would be suspicious to anyone. They didn't want any of that attention right now.
"Can you please tell me where Naya Rivera Morris' room is located please," Heather spoke urgently.
"The doctor will be notified you are here...you are Heather, her wife I'm assuming, is that correct?" The receptionist asked and Heather nods frantically. "Okay wonderful. The doctor will be notified you are in the waiting room and will come out shortly with an update. She's on the 11th floor. She's not allowed visitors at this time since she's still being looked over by the doctors but the waiting room is just down the hall from the room. You all can wait there and he should come to meet you shortly." the receptionist smiled and Heather gave her the best one she would manage before they all took off towards the elevators.
A few minutes later they were all in the waiting room just off the main hallway on the eleventh floor. Amber was cradling a sleeping Sophia but she was waking up a little bit so Heather could text and update their families to let them know where they are since she figured the Rivera's wouldn't be too much longer. Once she was done updating all she could do was pace the room. To know that Naya was begging for her and she wasn't there was...well you might as well just saw her heart in half, that's how excruciatingly painful it is to think about. To know one of her girls needed her and she wasn't there makes her sick to her stomach.
Her thoughts were interrupted when a familiar muscular dark-haired man came out of the corridor and threw the doors of the waiting room. Heather instantly looked up and ran over when she saw it was Antonio.
"Antonio!" Heather said running towards him and hugging him tightly as he held onto the blonde while the others followed. Amber was holding Sophia who was crying. "How's my wife?" Heather rushed out trying not to sob again as the reality of the situation is hitting her as she takes in the settings around her. This isn't a dream. They are actually in a hospital right now.
Antonio shook his head, "She's not conscious, her left shoulder is out of place and her left arm is surprisingly not broken as they originally thought but it's severely sprained and there's a big cut near her elbow that needed stitches. She also has several broken ribs that are causing her intense pain. She has lots of scrapes a large cut under her hairline on her forehead. One of her main injuries was a piece of metal lodged in her abdomen that we had to get an x-ray done before he could remove to see the damage it had done. She will need another x-ray to check for internal damage." Antonio said taking a breath and everyone gasped. Heather brought her hands up to her mouth. She felt nauseous.
"Oh, God!" Heather cried out and Antonio took his hand and placed it on her shoulder squeezing it gently and soothingly.
"They're doing a Cat-Scan of her head to check her brain for any bleeding then they're going to do some X-rays to check her neck and other bones. She was breathing but barely from the loss of blood and intense pain." Antonio said and Heather collapsed into his arms. Everyone cried and sat in shock and horror at what was happening in front of them both with Naya and seeing Heather like this. The last time they saw this was when Sophia was kidnapped and they never wanted to see this Heather again. Heather lived and breathed for her family.
Heather was distraught and Harry had his arm wrapped around her shoulders. Darren was holding Chris. Diana was hugging Lea. Amber was rocking Sophia who was crying while also being held by Chord. Cory, Vanessa, and Kevin clutched each other tightly while Jenna was on the other side of Heather rubbing her back.
Twenty minutes later they were told that Antonio had requested a private waiting room for them because the last thing any of them needed was pictures taken and this was all over the news. The news would find out, it was a big accident and that's inevitable, but, not here and now. Heather was also relieved that people won't have access to take photos of Sophia because that's the last thing they needed to.
About a half-hour, later everyone was sitting in the private waiting room and they were all going crazy trying to pass the time as they waited for another update when the door opened and Yolanda, Mychal, and Nickayla were led inside by a nurse who had to escort them to the private waiting room.
"Heather!" Yolanda says quickly as she throws her purse in the corner and runs over to her bonus daughter.
"I'm so relieved you're here." Heather breathed out.
"So are we! God, we can't believe this is happening! How is sh..." Mychal says but is cut off by a crying Sophia
"Abuela! Kiki! Mickey! Mami is hurt super bad! I miss mami and momma is super duper sad because she misses my mami too." Sophia cries out tearing up as everyone's heart breaks at her sweet little innocent voice that's both confused at what's exactly is happening and how to process that her mami is hurt badly.
Yolanda picked up her granddaughter and higher her tightly and kissed her repeatedly. "Oh, my nieta, I know sweetheart. Mami will be okay. The best doctors are helping her but it's okay to be scared." Yolanda says while Nickayla and Mychal kiss Sophia on the head before giving Heather a big hug.
"Hey, my darling, should we color mami a card so you can give it to her when you see her?" Chris asked and Sophia lifted her head from her abuela's shoulder and wiped her eyes with her tiny fist before nodding slightly.
"Yeah. I can I make mami a super special unicorn card so she feels happy and her owies stop hurting" Sophia said and wiggled from Yolanda's embrace over to Chris.
"That's a great idea, Soph! Your mami will love it!" Jenna said with a smile
"Yeah, I'll ask the next nurse I see for some paper and crayons. Then we will make her a pretty picture" Chris said and Sophia nodded. Heather felt thankful that hopefully, this will distract her little mind from being worried sick about her mami even if it's only for a short time.
Everyone sat down throughout the room trying to get a grip on what the hell their life had become in the last two hours. Sophia went into the hallway with Chris to try and flag down a nurse to get their crayons and paper.
"How are you holding up, Heather? Is there anything we can do for you?" Amber asked softly as she came over and sat next to Heather in the row of armchairs along the wall.
Heather shook her head as a tear fell down her cheek.
"Oh, honey," Jenna whispered as she kneeled in front of the blonde.
"Come here" Yolanda urged as she opened her arms. Heather fell into her offering embrace and started sobbing. She was trying to be strong and vowed to be in front of her daughter and wife but they just knew so damn little right now and Heather wanted to burst into the hallway and open every door until she found her wife who was probably terrified and alone. The only thing helping was knowing that Antonio was with her and she wasn't surrounded by strangers.
Chris and Sophia came back into the room with computer paper and crayons in hand.
"Is momma okay?" Sophia asked worriedly as Heather was wiping her eyes to get back into strong wife and momma mode in front of her daughter.
"She just sad, sweetheart" Lea said.
Heather held out her arms for her daughter and Sophos passed her box of crayons to Chris so she could run and hug her momma.
"Everything will be okay, my beautiful girl. You make some pretty cards for mami and when you are done, we will work on the group card and everybody can sign it for her, okay baby girl?" Heather said and Sophia nodded while giving her momma one last squeeze and kiss on her cheek before going over to a little table in the corner of the private waiting room.
"Come on, my darling, let's make your mami some cards," Chris said
"Ok, but we have to make two. One from just me and one from all of us. Everyone has to sign it" Sophia said dumping the crayons on the table.
About ten minutes later Antonio came into the room and Yolanda hugged him immediately. Everyone could see the urgency and exhaustion on his face. It was one thing to be a doctor in general, it was another thing when your own daughter comes in fighting for her life and trying to figure out just how serious her injuries were internally.
"She won't let us do anything until she sees you," Antonio said immediately and that's all it took for Heather to stand and nearly bolt out of the room but she remembered that Sophia was here and she would freak out if she saw her mom run out with no explanation. Heather looks in the direction of her daughter.
"Hey little love, come here quickly please," Heather says and Sophia gets her purple crayon down and runs over to her momma. "Okay baby girl, mami needs to see me so I can help her be strong and brave for some medicine and sit with her while the doctors are fixing her owies, just like mami does when you get owies," Heather says and Sophia nods slowly.
"You will come back, right? What about mami. I want mami!" Sophia says getting teary and Heather wastes no time and brings her daughter in for an affectionate hug. Everyone has tears in their eyes. This was heartbreaking.
"I know you do my baby girl and I promise you'll see her soon and we will make mami feel better together. She just needs me while the doctors fix up her owies, okay my love. I will be back, I promise you. Can you be extra brave and stay here with abuelo, abuela, and your aunts and uncles while I check on mami?" Heather asked and Sophia nodded while wiping her tears with her tiny fist.
"Will you tell mami I love her so much. I need to see mami. I need to!" Sophia shook with tears and everyone was a mess. Yolanda comes over and kneels next to her granddaughter who falls into her arms.
"You're mami loves you so much my nieta. The sooner momma goes to get her the medicine and fix her owies, the faster it will come until you can see her, but for you to see mami, we have to make sure she's okay. Can you stay with all of us until momma gets back?" Yolanda asks sweetly while rubbing her granddaughter's back and placing a kiss on her head.
"Ye...yeah. Momma just come back and then let me see mami, okay. I need to snuggle and tell her not to be afraid. I need to!" Sophia pleads and everyone is barely holding on by a thread listening to this little girl pleading for her mother.
"I promise baby. I'll be back and then abuelo will let you see mami I'm sure. Okay?" Heather said and Sophia looked at her abuelo and he nodded. She looked at her momma and hesitantly nodded to her before clutching Yolanda as Heather have her daughter a kiss before she and Antonio walked out of the room.
Heather could hear her daughter breaking down as the door was closing behind them. Antonio looked back at his daughter-in-law and they shared a knowing look. This was happening to his daughter and her wife and mother of her child. They understood each other's pain.
"This is fucking too much, how did this happen to her?!" Heather asks desperately as they start their fast-paced walk. Antonio looks over sympathetically.
"I don't know why bad things happen to amazing people but she will be okay. She's just in a large amount of pain and she needs you. She's terrified. Heather subconsciously speeds up making Antonio rush faster as well knowing how desperate and protective Heather is. If this were any other situation Heather's actions would have made him smile.
Antonio points to Naya's room door just as nurses rush past them and through her door while they hear the monitor sound. Antonio's eyes widen and he goes from dad to head doctor mode and bolts in while he holds a finger up for Heather to stay outside until he knows what's going on.
The heart monitor blares once again alerting the staff that her heart was racing, most likely from a panic attack which created a frenzy around her room to try and calm her down.
"NO!" Heather says frantically as Antonio rushed inside the room telling her to wait outside.
