You can't see it from here, people, but I am cussing SO MUCH at ffnet's screw-ups. Here's the ACTUAL chapter. (sorry it wasn't fixed sooner, this is my work break.)

SPOTLIGHT ON TREACHERY

Job 4: Shocking Disguise

Bentley wheels his way around the island, stopping frequently to jump onto tumble-down piles of rocks and get a better view of his surroundings... and avoid the guards. The starting waypoint is the closest such pile to the on-shore lighthouse, which is otherwise in an area without much cover. It's decently far from town, and by the shore of the island, so while the camera's gone it's still very easy for any nearby guards to see him.

Bentley pulls out his binoc-u-com. "Are you ready, Thaddeus?"

"Indeed, Bentley," says Thaddeus. "Although this cold makes my bones ache, it's nothing significant enough to prevent me from assisting."

"Great, because there's no way for any of us to sneak into that lighthouse," Bentley says. "I'm going to need you to steal a guard uniform: you'll need ski pants, a winter jacket, and a stocking cap. Then you'll have to eavesdrop until you've learned whatever the lighthouse password is; I overheard a guard mentioning it earlier."

"I suppose, once I am in disguise, I shall escort you within?"

"Yep. I'll pose as an electrician, and you'll be the one 'preventing' me from seeing anything I 'shouldn't'. Get it?"

"Indeed," Thaddeus says. "I shall contact you again once I have acquired what is necessary." With that, he puts away his binoc-u-com.

Thaddeus, it seems, is standing on top of the safe-house. There are two waypoints for flashlight guards in the town around the safe-house, and he goes for those first.

He finds the two of them circling the same house in opposite directions, pausing every time they run into each other. One has his jacket unzipped; the other has her hat tucked in a pocket. It takes a few moments, but Thaddeus retrieves both items without being seen, rolling his eyes in the process.

The other guard with a waypoint to steal from is far out of town, on the beach by the furthest of the three piers. He... he appears to have removed his pants and, as Thaddeus watches, he takes a deep breath and runs partway into the freezing water, shrieks from cold, and retreats back to his pants. Mere moments later, he does it again. And then again.

Thaddeus just stays where he is, perched on a cliffside above the rocky shore, and watches for a while. The guard appears to be enjoying his repeated icy dips immensely. At last, on one of the guard's dashes into the ocean, Thaddeus drops down, snags the pants, and gets out of there.

The guard appears not to notice.

Thaddeus shakes his head and looks around. Now, if he wishes to hear a guard do a password prompt, where would be a good spot to go?

Thaddeus winds up lurking outside of the large building Miss Fox is inspecting. Guards go in and out of that area all the time; one gets password-checked eventually. "Halt! What is the Lighthouse Password?"

"Square circle square circle," says the other guard, leans on one claw, and rolls his eyes (which, in a lobster, is a sight to see). "Has anyone ever gotten these silly things wrong?"

"Nah," says the first, and yawns. "The boss is just paranoid about them Coppers. Or maybe it's Them Coopers, I don't pay much attention."

Success. Bentley comes over the line: "Nice work, Thaddeus. Put on your disguise and meet me outside the lighthouse."

Thaddeus makes his way over, whistling. He equips the new disguise on the gadget menu, then switches over at the door. Bentley's waiting there, a fake mustache on and an oversized, very obviously fake, toolbox with ELECTRICIAN TOOLS written on it in sharpie. "Make sure to carry yourself properly," Thaddeus cautions him. "That is a decent disguise, but not one that will hold up if you lack confidence."

"Believe me, I could pull this one off in my sleep," Bentley says.

"Funny," Thaddeus says, and knocks on the lighthouse door. "So could I."

One password check later, and they're in. They have to take a short, wooden, ladder-like staircase to even get up to the first floor; Bentley jetpacks his way up. This place looks... well, if Bentley were a real inspector, it would absolutely be shut down. Bare wires, obviously live, cover the floor; they seem to be divided into three main sections of wires, color-coded red, blue, and green. The different colors turn on in sequence. Getting up the stairs is completely impossible, due to the curtain of live wires hanging in front of it.

On the far side of the room is a computer. "Thaddeus, think you can lure those guards away?" Bentley asks. "I doubt even my disguise will let me get to that without a confrontation."

"You needn't worry, turtle," says Thaddeus. He puffs out his chest and strides forward, dodging live wires as he goes. When he steps into the flashlight of the first guard, he demands, "You there! The River Password, quickly!"

"Uhhh..."

"Have we a traitor in our midst?" Thaddeus grabs the guard by the collar and turns to the other. "You, help me restrain him. We need to take him to be questioned."

Guard two goes along with it, and seconds later, Thaddeus and a random guard are escorting the first guard out of there. Bentley stares in disbelief. Then, with a shake of his head, and several careful jumps, Bentley makes his way to the computer.

Nothing like a nice hacking job. This one is characterized by hallways that lead to areas with slowly rotating lights. If Bentley's hacking avatar touches those lights, it sustains a ton of damage... but the slow-moving defenders trying to ram his hacking avatar don't take damage from them. It's not the fastest hacking job he's ever done, but when it's over, he taps the buttons thoughtfully. "This computer will only let me turn off the electricity temporarily," he says to himself, "but I can completely disable the electricity on the stairs, at least."

"Excellent," says Thaddeus, making Bentley jump. "Shall we continue, then?"

Continue they shall. The two of them make their way upstairs, to find a second floor, and again, the way up is blocked by live wires and a computer Bentley could hack. This time, there's no way to just shoo out the guards; Thaddeus has to do a sneak attack to take them out, one by one, carefully.

That done, Bentley wheels himself forward and tackles the next computer. The moving lights turn a little faster this time, and there are now stationary shooting enemies as well. Bentley mutters curses as the moving lights force him to take risks he otherwise wouldn't, preventing him from ducking in and out of cover to take out the shooting enemies.

At last, though, he taps a key and turns off more of the electricity, opening their way upstairs. The two climb to the third floor and...

well.

"Perhaps it would be best if I carried you," Thaddeus suggests tactfully. "I do not believe your chair permits you to complete ninja spire landings, and with the amount of glowing technology snakes in the vicinity, that may be the only way forward."

"They're called wires, but I think you're right," Bentley says, eying the room. "You'll have to let me sit on your shoulders to reach that computer."

Yep. Wires, wires everywhere, and in the center, a large lightbulb, ginormous, covered in a slowly spinning metal turner that allows for the classic spinning light-house light effect. There are no guards, though... likely because they couldn't survive it.

In any case, Thaddeus carries Bentley over, and Bentley completes the hacking job. "Now that I'm in, I should be able to turn the lighthouse on and off remotely," Bentley says. "Let's just turn off all the wires and get out of here."

JOB COMPLETE

Thaddeus returns Bentley to his chair, and the two of them share a dignified nod before going back down the stairs.
