118. Chapter 118: Tempest: Battle of Nuvema

With Cassidy and Butch
Cassidy and Butch sneak to the edge of Nuvema Town, and carefully spy on the Defences being planned.
The big thing they notice is the sheer number of trainers willing to fight.
"That's going to be an issue. We're going to have trouble taking the town with that many trainers" Cassidy admitted, to which Butch responded "It won't matter if we can capture Ash and Meloetta. That's the important part. Though we've also got to make sure we can cut off any escape attempts he makes"
"We're going to need the cooperation of the other Rocket trio to do that" Cassidy replied, to which Butch nodded.
"So, defensively, it does seem like they're planning the entrance to the city as a choke point," Cassidy said, to which Butch stated "Then we're going to have to use aerial attacks first thing to soften their defences. Then we use Wild Pokémon to wear them down further, then we attack"
"Sounds like a good plan. We'd better get to the other side, and continue our defence scouting" Butch stated, to which Cassidy nodded, and they headed for other parts of the Town.

The two scouts examine the Defences and discover that the Town generally had a lot of Defensive positions that looked manmade.
"Look at those defences. They look pretty sturdy, but they don't seem natural" Butch stated, pointing to the various point defences. Nodding, Cassidy responded, "Do they seriously think those will hold against Rocket offensives?"
"They must think that. They look somewhat sturdy, but I don't think they'll hold against sustained attacks" Cassidy sneered, to which Butch nodded.
"Well, with that, can we get an idea of where Ash is going to be fighting?" Cassidy asked, to which Butch replied "No clue"
"Well, we'd better get back and report our finding to the boss" Butch added, to which Cassidy replied "How about we check on Jessie and James, and see if they're doing anything"
"Sounds like a plan" Butch responded.
However, just before they left, they noticed that Grimsley of the Unova Elite 4 was in Nuvems Town. Pointing this out, Cassidy stated "We'd better inform the boss about this. It's definitely a reason to finally make Petrel useful", to which Butch responded, "That we should. He'll be a thorn in Team Rocket's side otherwise".

When they reach Accumula Town, they spot Jessie and James relaxing.
"So, what are you two doing here?" Cassidy sneered, to which Jessie snapped "We're keeping the discipline of the Rockets here in Accumula Town if you must know"
"There are a few trainers camped on the edge of Accumula Town that we're going to take down, so they won't be able to interrupt your battle strategy on Route 1" James pointed out, to which both Cassidy and Butch nodded.
"Alright. You think you can handle it?" Cassidy sneered, to which Jessie snapped back "Yes!"
"Fine. Good luck with that" Cassidy responded, and she and Butch depart.
"What a duo of snobs. You can tell they're still jealous of us being in Team Rocket" Jessie spat, to which James nodded, and replied grimly "Well, it's all we can do at the moment. Just do what we're told until we get the right moment to cause as much damage as possible"
"Agreed. And this is one of the ways we can do that" Jessie replied, and the duo retreated to find somewhere to sleep.

Cassidy and Butch eventually make it back to Undella Town around Sunrise, and give their report to Giovanni,
"So, what have you discovered about Nuvema Town's defences?" Giovanni asked, to which Cassidy replied "We've discovered that they're planning to use the entrance to Nuvema Town as a choke point to stop us from getting in. They've also got a ton of artificial fortifications to stop us getting in"
"Interesting. Sounds like we're going to have to use Aerial Attacks to wear down our enemies" Giovanni replied. Petrel then suggested "How about I send my swarm of Koffing in to destroy those fortifications"
"That'll be pretty dangerous. I think we'd need a lot of work to make that a viable strategy" Giovanni responded, to which Petrel shrugged. Giovanni then added, "By the way, do you know of any, League members, in Nuvema Town?"
"Grimsley" both Cassidy and Butch respond at the same time, to which Giovanni nodded.
"Well, you finally have a use Petrel. Congratulations. Engage Grimsley" Giovanni said to Petrel, who nodded, and replied "Fine, at least I'm going to be on the front lines"
"So, is there anything we can do to help?" Cassidy asked, to which Giovanni replied "Distract Ash's girlfriend and his rival. I'll send a Commander to deal with Trip"
"Alright, that sounds good" both Cassidy and Butch replied, nodding.
"Alright. Speaking of duos, do Jessie and James have our teleporter base?" Giovanni enquired, to which Butch responded "It sounds like they have something set up. Hopefully, that's what it is"
"Good. Then we'd better get ready. Meanwhile, I'll send a confirmation message to them. Now be on your way" Giovanni stated, to which Petrel, Cassidy and Butch all nod, and head for the preparatory areas.
Meanwhile, Giovanni opens up a communication line to Jessie and James.

With Jessie and James
The Rocket trio returns to their perch on Accumula Town in the morning, and meet up with their Grunts.
"So, which one of you have a Magic Bounce Xatu?" Jessie asked, to which the Commander responded "I do"
"Good" Jessie stated. They then got a message from Giovanni.
"So have you two got a way for us to get into Accumula Town easily?" Giovanni enquired, to which James replied "We do boss. The Commander has a Magic Bounce Xatu with Teleport, so you'll be able to lock onto the signal, and Teleport here specifically"
"Good. We're going to need a big force from what Cassidy and Butch saw of the defences in Nuvema Town. Apparently, there's a group attempting to ambush us. Can you take care of that?" Giovanni stated, to which Jessie and James both replied "Boss yes Boss"
"Good. Don't fail me" Giovanni replied, and the communication was cut. Jessie then turned to the Commander, and said "Well, you'd best set up your Magic Bounce Xatu, so Team Rocket can get an easy pathway here" to which the Commander nodded, and called "Xatu, let's rule" and Xatu materialised.
"there we go. Now Giovanni has a beacon for teleportation" the Commander called, to which both Jessie and James nodded.
"Good work. Now, let's all get ready. We may have to defend Accumula Town from trainer attacks" James suggested, to which Jessie nodded, and they contacted the other Grunts to get in position.

Meanwhile in Undella Town
Giovanni is consulting with his secretary, then talked briefly with Commander Kyron.
Petrel soon approached, along with a bunch of the Grunts that would help take the Town. In addition, two Scientists showed up, and they were ready to set up the Wild Stormer.
"So, we're ready to go?" Giovanni asked, to which Petrel replied "We're ready to go"
"Good. How, remember our plan?" Giovanni asked, to which Petrel recited "Start at Accumula Town. Get onto Route 1, and set up the Wild Stormer. Send the Wild Pokémon across the ground, and attack from skies with Golbats. Once Ash and Meloetta are located, the Commander or Giovanni will take him down and capture Giovanni. Meanwhile Cassidy and Butch will engage his girlfriend and rival, while Jessie and James will stop any attacks from the rear"
'Good. Then we're ready to go" Giovanni replied, nodding. And after making sure that both everyone was ready, and the Xatu was ready to accept the teleportation, the Xatu teleported to them and took the whole group to Accumula Town.

At Accumula Town
The entire group of Rockets arrived in Accumula Town with the Xatu.
"Here we go. Now, let's start getting into position" Giovanni stated, and the Grunts got ready to charge onto Route 1, while Jessie and James got ready to patrol.
"So, where do I go?" Petrel asked, to which Giovanni responded "Stay near me. You to Cassidy and Butch" I'll call you all out to them when you're needed"
"Boss yes Boss" all three replied.
"Ready?" Giovanni asked, to which the Grunts nodded. The Grunts then charged onto Route 1 and took it unopposed.
"Set up the Wild Stormer, and get out your Golbats" Giovanni stated, to which the Scientists nodded and started setting it up, while the Grunts that had Golbats called their Golbats in.
Once the Wild Stormer was set up, Giovanni stated "Now charge" and the Wild Pokémon swept up towards Nuvema Town, while the Golbats flew over into the city and started attacking the Pokémon and trainers.

Meanwhile in Nuvema Town
Grimsley was first up, and he examined the defences they'd built during the evening.
"Alright. Now, how to distribute our trainers" Grimsley thought to himself as he looked around.
Ash soon joined him, as did Maximus.
"Do you know if Team Rocket is using Flying-type Pokémon?" Grimsley asked, to which Ash responded "I'm pretty sure they'll be using Golbat" and he got the Pokédex out to the entry for Golbat.
"Golbat, the Bat Pokémon and the evolved form of Zubat. Flitting around in the dead of night, it sinks its fangs into its prey and drains a nearly fatal amount of blood. Golbat can evolve further into Crobat" Ash's Pokédex stated.
"Alright. What Flying-type Pokémon do we have? Because I've got a Honchkrow" Grimsley asked, to which Ash replied "I've got a Braviary and a Staraptor"
"I don't have any Flying-types, though Reshiran can fly," Hilbert said, to which Grimsley nodded.
"I've got a Mandibuzz if that helps" Maximus stated, while Trip added "I've got an Unfezant"
"Good. Then we should be able to, at least for a while, hold off the bat swarm" Grimsley responded, to which Ash, Maximus and Trip all nodded.
"As to the others, where should we place the trainers?" Ash asked, to which Grimsley, after a few moments, responded "At the entrance, or near it. Granted, that's where they're expecting us to marshal our forces. But, if we make sure

the positions are good, then we can hit them with surprise attacks"
"Sounds good. As to the other defences, I guess we can hide trainers there?" Ash asked, to which Grimsley nodded.
Over the next half hour, the trainers helping to support them get ready, and get into position to handle the coming Rocket Attack.
Soon, the Rockets were on the Route, and the Wild Stormer is set up.
"They're going to combine Wild Pokémon attacks with Golbat attacks. No surprise" Ash said, then he called his Pokémon in. Hilda, Trip, Maximus and Grimsley do likewise.
And when the Wild Pokémon start, the battle begins.

The first battles were mostly between the trainers set at the front of the Town, and fighting to hold back the Wild Pokémon. Thanks to Nurse Joy, any trainer that has their Pokémon too damaged can pull back and get healed up. The Golbat swarm in and start going around attacking Pokémon.
"That's our cue," Ash said, and Staraptor, Braviary, Mandibuzz, Unfezant and Honchkrow all go to confront the Golbats.

Ash's Braviary takes a turn to use Tailwind to double the Speed of his allies.

Battle: Unfezant VS 2 Golbat
Unfezant started glowing with a huge amount of sky blue energy, charging a Sky Attack.
Golbat then flashed a sinister light of spectral energy at Unfezant, Confusing it.
However, Unfezant was able to get through the Confusion and charge into Golbat, KO'ing it in one hit.
A second Golbat then charged in, cloaking itself with sky blue energy, and tried to nimbly strike Unfezant, but Unfezant narrowly avoided it.
Then, Unfezant cloaked itself in a heart of white energy, and charged into Golbat, inflicting Considerable damage.
Golbat then cloaked itself with sky blue energy, and struck with an Acrobatics attack, inflicting Considerable damage.
Unfezant then once again cloaked itself with a heart of white energy, and charged into Golbat, inflicting Considerable damage again.
Golbat responded with another round of Considerable damage thanks to nimbly striking Unfezant while cloaked with Sky Blue energy.
Finally, Unfezant dashed into Golbat, a Quick Attack, KO'ing Golbat.
Conclusion: Unfezant wins

Battle; Mandibuzz VS 2 Golbat
Mandibuzz cloaked itself with anti-positive energy, and smacked Golbat, using its power against it, inflicting Considerable damage.
Golbat then cloaked itself with sky blue energy, and charged into Mandibuzz, inflicting Moderate damage.
Mandibuzz then restored a Slight amount of health with Leftovers.
Mandibuzz then once again cloaked itself with anti-positive energy and grabbed Golbat, then struck Golbat, using its power against it, inflicting Considerable damage. Golbat then responded by striking with Acrobatics, but Mandibuzz barely avoided it.
Mandibuzz then restored a Slight amount of health with Leftovers.
Mandibuzz and Golbat then collided. Mandibuzz cloaked itself with angry sky blue energy, a Brave Bird, and charged into Golbat, while Golbat cloaked itself with sky blue energy and nimbly struck Mandibuzz. Golbat was KO'ed, while Mandibuzz took Moderate damage from Acrobatics and Slight damage from recoil.
Mandibuzz then restored a Slight amount of health with Leftovers.
Mandibuzz then flew over to a second Golbat, harassing trainers, and again cloaked itself with anti-positive energy, grabbed the Golbat, and used its power against it to inflict Considerable damage.
Golbat then once again responded by cloaking itself with sky blue energy, and numbly struck Mandibuzz, inflicting Moderate damage.
Mandibuzz then restored a Slight amount of health with Leftovers.
Golbat then attempted to knock Mandibuzz out with Acrobatics, but Mandibuzz was able to rest using Roost, restoring half its health before taking Minor damage. The healing is added onto by its Leftovers.
Mandibuzz then once again grabbed Golbat while cloaked with anti-positive energy, and used Golbat's power against it to inflict Considerable damage again.
Golbat then fought itself free using Acrobatics and managed to also inflict Minor damage to Mandibuzz.
Mandibuzz then cloaked itself with sky blue energy, and rushed into Golbat, KO'ing it while taking Slight recoil.
Then Mandibuzz Roosted, combined with Leftovers to restore a significant amount of health.
Conclusion: Mandibuzz wins.

Battle: Braviary VS 2 Golbat
Braviary lost its first turn casting Tailwind to support his allies. As a result, he was struck by the Golbat's Acrobatics attack, taking Considerable damage.
Braviary then summoned a bunch of rocks, and threw them at Golbat, a Rock Slide attack, inflicting Significant damage.
Golbat tried to dash into Braviary while cloaked in sky blue energy, but Braviary was ready, and also cloaked itself with sky blue energy, then charged into Golbat, KO'ing it without taking damage, except recoil.
Another Golbat then approached, and Braviary was ready. He summoned more rocks to throw at Golbat, but it dodged. Then, the Golbat charged at Braviary while cloaked in sky blue energy, but the nimble attacks failed thanks to Braviary cloaking itself with white energy and defending it.
Then, Braviary charged into Golbat while cloaked with that heart, inflicting Significant damage.
Surprised, Golbat fell back. Braviary took the advantage to strike again while cloaked with white energy, KO'ing the Golbat.
Conclusion: Braviary wins.

Battle: Honchkrow VS 2 Golbat
Honchkrow saw the Golbat, and its eyes glowed blue, and unleashed a burst of psionic energy at the Golbat, inflicting Significant damage.
Golbat rushed in, its body cloaked with sky blue energy, and nimbly struck Honchkrow, inflicting Moderate damage.
Honchkrow then cloaked its wing with anti-positive energy and slashed Honchkrow in a Critical Hit, KO'ing it.
A second Golbat then rushed in, and Honchkrow once again sent a pulse of psionic energy at Golbat, inflicting significant damage.
Then, Golbat cloaked itself with sky blue energy and nimbly struck Honchkrow, inflicting Moderate damage. Then, Honchkrow once again unleashed a pulse of psionic energy, and KO'ed Golbat.
Conclusion: Honchkrow wins.

Battle: Staraptor VS Golbat
Staraptor's Intimidate cuts Golbat's Attack.
Staraptor cloaked itself in a heart of white energy, and charged into Golbat, inflicting Significant damage.
Golbat then cloaked itself with sky blue energy, and nimbly struck Staraptor, inflicting Moderate damage.
Staraptor then responded by once again cloaking itself with a heart of white energy and charged into Golbat, KO'ing it.
Another Golbat, this time not affected by Intimidate, then came in to face Staraptor.
Once again, Staraptor cloaked itself in a heart of white energy, and charged into Golbat, inflicting Significant damage. Golbat retaliated by cloaking itself with sky blue energy and nimbly struck Staraptor, inflicting Considerable damage.
Staraptor then finished Golbat off with a heart of white energy.
Conclusion: Staratpror wins.

Meanwhile with Giovanni
Giovanni takes notes of where Unfezant, Mandibuzz, Braviary, Staraptor and Honchkrow flew out from, and used it, along with the map of Nuvema Town he has, to figure out where Trip, Maximus, Ash and Grimsley are.
"Alright. Now, we know where a few of our important targets are. Petrel, you got here to face Grimsley" Giovanni stated, to which Petrel nodded. Giovanni then turned to face Commander Kyron and stated "Trip is yours. You should be able to handle him on your own"
"I will" Kyron replied. Giovanni then turned to Cassidy and Butch, and stated "Maximus is here, try to get Hilda in the battle as well"
"Will do boss" both Cassidy and Butch replied. Giovanni then stated "I'll handle Ash myself. Now, move out" and the Rockets fully moved onto Route 1. Meanwhile, Kyron, Cassidy and Buch, and Giovanni move towards their targeted positions.

With Jessie and James
As soon as Team Rocket saw the remaining members of Team Rocket move onto Route 1, they saw that the trainers they were spying on earlier were starting to move.
"Let's move in" James stated, pointing them out, to which Jessie nodded, and they struck.
"Prepare for Trouble," Jessie said as they landed in front of the trainers, and James added "And make it double"
"To protect the world from devastation" Jessie stated, and James added "To protect the peoples within our nation"
"To denounce the evils of truth and love," Jessie said, and James added "To extend our reach to the stars above"
"Jessie," Jessie said, and James stated "James"
"Team Rocket blasting off at the Speed of Light," Jessie said, and James added "Surrender now or prepare to lose a big fight"
"Meowth, that's right" Meowth called, and Wobbuffet added "WOBBUFFET!"
"Oh no! Not you two" May groaned, and Mal added "Well let's bring them down", and at this, the battle began.
