A/N: Hello. Thank you to arcoiris0502 for reviewing the last chapter. I wanted to make sure I still have readers/reviewers for this story (like I did from Ch1&2). I know I haven't updated in a long time. Hope you're still with me. Here's the next update.

Chapter 4
(Olivia needed to clear her head. Between the wedding fiasco and her father's insane attitude, she went to the place where she liked to go calm herself. It was a public space, but considering the sun was falling, it was dead silent right now. The ground was cemented and it was an open area. There were a few black benches surrounding the area. She particularly liked the one with a great view of the White House)
(She sits down and looks around. She moves a few strands of hair that fell in her face behind her ear. She didn't mind the public area or when it was crowded with faces. She just preferred it nice and quiet, when she can process her thoughts. She leans forward and rests her elbows on her thighs and then her face in the palm of her hands. Suddenly, she hears a familiar voice)
Jake: "We really need to stop meeting like this."
(Olivia looks up to see the man she loves. She sighs as she shrugs her shoulders)
Olivia: "I came here to think. I needed to escape from the world for a little while. What's your excuse?"
(Jake, who has his hands tucked in his jean pockets, walks to her)
Jake: "I came here for the same reason. I was losing my mind at my apartment."
(They both knew why. Rowan hasn't been making it easy on either one of them. Olivia will never understand how Rowan can be her father while also so lethal, dangerous, and full of himself. She had a plan to stop that. She just hoped that it would work. She looks between the bench and Jake. Judging from the way he was fidgeting, she could tell he wanted to sit down beside her, but was hesitant)
Olivia: "I don't bite."
Jake: (puzzled) "Huh?"
(Olivia scoffs lightly as she turns away)
Olivia: "If you wanna sit down...sit. Unless you hate me that much."
(He looks at her oddly)
Jake: "I never said I hated you. Am I pissed at you for lying to me about the fact that you wanted to be with me? Yes."
(He raises his hands to his sides as he tries to express himself)
Jake: "First, you happily say you want to be with me and we make all of these plans as an attempt at a normal life. Or whatever normal is for us. Then, just minutes before I was set to break Vanessa's heart, you tell me that you have decided you don't wanna be together. Yeah, you claim it's about Fitz. However, my instincts tell me it's not that."
(He places his hands on his hips and chuckles as he shakes his head)
Jake: "I still don't know why you lied to me. I can't make you tell me the truth. I wish you would open up about whether or not Rowan got to you, which I'm certain he did. Still, you are your own person, Olivia. I'll never understand why you lied."
(She wanted to tell him the truth. She wanted to tell him everything. She just couldn't risk her father wanting revenge for her betrayal. She could handle other pathetic lowlifes with no problem, but she couldn't handle her father. He had the money and the resources to make her pay. She shakes her head as she leans against the bench with her arms folded)
Olivia: "It's complicated."
(He scoffs angrily as he briefly looks up. He slides his hands over his hair as he walks in a circle. He was getting so freaking fed up with the same old excuse. 'It's complicated'. Doesn't she have a better lie to use than that? He wanted to be with her so badly it hurt. He loved her more than his own life. What the hell did he have to do to get that through to her? He was running out of patience on convincing her to open up to him. No more, he thought to himself. He was tired of trying to convince her to tell him the truth. He was done trying to tell her he would protect her. If she didn't want to be with him, he would finally listen. He wouldn't go chasing after her anymore. He would stop and leave her alone. It would pain him to let the woman he loves go, but he would do it. He would try finding someone who appreciated him)
(He points at her with a serious expression)
Jake: "If you want me to let you go, Olivia, I need you to say it." (shakes his head) "No giving me signals or hints that you want to be with me or saying 'it's complicated'. That won't work. You tell me, right here and right now, what you want."
(With her body leaning forward and her hands on the edge of the bench, she closes her eyes and turns away. Ugh! Why couldn't she be strong enough and open her heart to him? She knew that her father would seek revenge. She wished to hell that she was strong enough to go against him. During the times she tried overpowering him, he managed to stay a step ahead of her. She couldn't win. She just couldn't win! She could ask Fitz for help. She broke his heart when she admitted she couldn't fit into his world. She tried, she really did. Mellie was more equipped for the role, but Mellie and Fitz are now divorced. Olivia admitted she was tempted to go to Fitz, but she couldn't hurt him more than she already did. Nope, she would have to deal with this on her own)
(After a few moments of Jake and Olivia locking eyes, she turns away and gets up. She walks a few steps and has her back turned away from him. She sighs softly as she closes her eyes. She tries her hardest to keep the tears from falling. She was failing miserably. He calls out to her, "Olivia?...are you all right?" She can't form the words to answer him. She was afraid she would want to fall into his arms if she sees his concerned face. She is aware he has every reason to be angry with her...No, furious with her! She fucking broke his heart! All Jake knows is that there is something about her that he can never truly escape)
(He again places his hands on his hips as he tries to figure out what to do. Does he go to her and comfort her? Does he wipe her tears away and tell her it's going to be okay when he's not sure that it will be? Or does he walk away, leaving her to cry alone? God, he loves this woman, but he didn't want to break his heart further! He had to decide what he wanted to do)
(He knew for a fact that she was holding something back. It made him sad she didn't trust him enough to admit anything. Does he follow his head that told him to let her go? Or does he follow his heart that told him she was worth it all? Ultimately, Jake's heart wins and he rushes to her. He places his hands on her shoulders and rests his head against the back of her dark hair. He whispers loud enough so she can hear him)
Jake: (sighs) "Please, baby. Talk to me. Let me in. I'm begging you. I will fight to the end with you. My life is so much richer with you in it. I love you. Only you. It's always been you."
(Olivia sniffles and wipes her face before speaking)
Olivia: "You shouldn't have to fight to be with me, Jake. I'm a lost cause. You deserve better than me."
(He backs away from her as she turns around to face him)
Olivia: (nods) "You deserve better than a woman who is in love with someone else. Why am I crying? Because you're a good, caring, and loving man who continues to put his heart on the line for someone whose heart is already taken. It's always been taken."
(She was dying inside, but she couldn't let him see it. She had to look away to avoid the hurt and betrayal in his eyes. He nods his head. He is finally done trying to get through to her. He chuckles angrily as he backs further away from Olivia. He tilts his head and raises his eyebrows)
Jake: "You don't want to be with me?" (nods) "Fine. I'm done trying to get through to you when it's clear that you won't let me in. We're done. Forever. You wanna be with Fitz instead? Good luck. He's all yours. You two deserve each other."
(Jake walks away with a torn Olivia looking on. Her mouth opened and on the verge of tears again, she covers her face with her hands. Her legs give out and she falls to the ground, crying uncontrollably. When she recovers a bit, her words finally come out)
Olivia: "You will never know how sorry I am for hurting you. I love you. I..." (cries) "I will always love you. I hope in your heart you know that."
***The White House***
(Fitz is currently going through a few reports that Abby had given him earlier. He had trouble concentrating, despite his best efforts. All of a sudden, his office door opens with Rowan coming in. The desk secretary looks at Fitz apologetically)
Woman: "I'm terribly sorry, Mr. President. He insisted on seeing you even though I told him you were busy."
(Fitz raises his hand and nods)
Fitz: "That's okay, Lexie." (dryly) "Mr. Pope has a tendency to come and go as he pleases without any regards to anyone else. You're free to go."
(Lexie nods as she shuts the door behind her. Rowan offers a friendly smile)
Rowan: "It's been too long, Fitz."
Fitz: (snorts derisively) "Not long enough. What the hell do you want?"
(Fitz attempts to sit back down at his desk while Rowan walks to the desk. He leans against it and admires the children's pictures of Karen, Jackson, and the late Jerry)
Rowan: "You have beautiful kids, Fitz."
(Fitz takes the pictures that Rowan had in his hand and puts it back on his desk before sighing deeply)
Fitz: "Say what it is you came to say and then leave. I don't wanna look at your ugly face longer than necessary."
Rowan: (chuckles) "I see we're in a mood this evening."
Fitz: (raises his eyebrows) "Only when it comes to you. It's no secret that you and I despise each other."
(Fitz leans back in his chair with his arms folded)
Fitz: "I'm waiting."
(Rowan chuckles as he gets off Fitz's desk and faces his enemy. He smirks as he innocently speaks)
Rowan: "Will you still despise me after I tell you the truth about Olivia's feelings for you?"
(Fitz looks at his foe weirdly. What the heck was he talking about? He shakes his head as he tries to get the words out)
Fitz: "R-Rowan, what lies are you spreading now?" (rolls his eyes) "You know perfectly well that Liv and I are over. We came to the decision together on the matter." (glares at Rowan) "What kind of game are you playing?"
(Rowan chuckles softly as he walks around and raises his hands)
Rowan: "I know how you feel about my daughter, Grant. I've always known. How would you like it if I told you that you could get her back?"
(Fitz can't help the laugh that escapes his mouth. Now the arrogant SOB really was delusional! Fitz calms himself before speaking)
Fitz: "Are you forgetting that we decided to sever our relationship with each other? Or how about the fact that Olivia told me that she loves Jake?"
Rowan: (shakes his head) "Not anymore."
(Rowan stands in front of Fitz's desk again)
Rowan: "If you want her back, you better hurry. You know how women are. They change their minds constantly."
(Rowan makes his exit, leaving Fitz to wonder what kind of game the man is playing)
