After a few days of making plans and Totosai inspecting the Tessaiga it was determined to be worth a shot. Kaede accompanied the three siblings along with Koga and Kohaku.
"Kaede, do you think you'll be able to break through your sisters barrier if the Tessaiga doesn't work?" Shippo asked from his perch on Rins shoulder.
"Whatever happens I promise to try my best." She said. "I am worried about why she would cast it. Something went wrong, if we dispel the barrier then we could do more harm than good."
"But if we don't then they're all trapped in it." Koga stated. "And trust me, being trapped against your will is worse than death."
Nodding in agreement Rin sighed. As the compound came in to sight the large dome like barrier was seen from far away. The energy coming from it could be felt by all of them that had demon blood in their veins.
Jumping off of the dragon Inuyasha ran towards it.
"No Inuyasha! Don't touch it!" Rin scrambled to get down. To see him skid to a hault. Digging his feet into the ground he nearly fell over. Staring up at the energy his hair stood straight up on end.
It pricked his skin as if many small needles were stabbing him. His eyes began to water as he felt fearful. His parents were behind the barrier and if it hurt him this much outside of it then what was it doing to them on the inside.
Grabbing her brother to her Rin picked him up to carry him further back.
"Kohaku and I can enter the barrier. We will see what is going on then come out and let all of you know." Kaede stated.
"Be careful." Shippo warned warily. With affirming nods the two walked to the barrier first testing it with their hands to find a weak spot. Taking out her prayer beads Kaede closed her eyes.
"Sister Kikyo, allow me to pass." She requested. No sooner did the words leave her mouth that a small portal opened. Inuyasha tensed wanting to run in after them.
"Mama! Papa!" He shouted breaking free from Rins grasp.
"Inuyasha!" Rin, Shippo, and Koga yelled after him. Once again Rin sprinted after him as he ran into the compound. Catching him by the back of his kimono she turned to see it closed behind them.
"Rin!" Kaede shouted from outside. The two humans had been so stunned they had not gone through.
"We're alright." She said not feeling well. "We're in here, we may as well look around."
"I am so sorry Rin." Kaede apologized.
"It is not your fault Kaede. Find a way in and come find us." She replied.
"Right. Be careful." Glancing down at Inuyasha Rin saw him staring at everything.
"It's frozen." He said in a whisper. Looking around she saw what he meant. Time had in fact been stopped.
The demons had not been purified they were still there engaged in different battles and poses alongside human guards.
"I have a feeling that we should go to the mansion. That is probably where papa and mama are." Rin suggested. Taking his hand she led him around feeling an anxiety that had nothing to do with the barrier.
The air hung in place also feeling frozen. The coloring in the barrier was that of a sepia tone with small lights that almost looked like fireflies slowly rising from the ground around them.
These lights rose to the top of the energy dome seeming to feed into its power. Similarly Rin saw the lights coming from the people around them as well.
Looking down at Inuyasha she worried if it were the life of the demons and humans being drained. Sucking in a breath they entered the mansion as it was wide open, the doors had been broken down.
"Mama?" Inuyasha called out through the hall as they walked. "Papa!"
"Inuyasha, I don't know if they will be able to hear you." Rin said seeing others as they had been the moment the barrier was set. Most appeared as if they had been trying to flee. "It feels as if we're in a tomb."
Pulling on Inuyashas arm she looked back to see him looking at the Tessaiga. "What's the matter?"
"Tessaiga is moving." He muttered. Taking it out the sword transformed glowing a soft blue color before becoming pink. The light was warm and comforting.
"That is mama Kagomes energy." Rin felt her eyes water over as she quickly swiped them away.
"Tessaiga, take us to them please." Inuyasha requested. The sword began to tug him down the hall pulsing in his hand as if it were a beacon.
The closer they came the brighter it shone and the more it pulsed before outright rattling. Stopping at a chamber door the two looked inside and gasped.
"Master Miroku!" Rin shouted running to him. He stood next to a woman and looked as if he were in the middle of casting out his sacred sutras. The woman must have been Kaedes sister, Kikyo.
She held her prayer beads between her hands with her fingers pointed up as her hand was clasped at her chin. Her eyes were shut and her mouth frozen in a chant.
"Papa!" Inuyasha yelled running to his fathers side. Dropping the Tessaiga it clattered to the floor as he ran to his father. "Get up!"
Putting his hands to his fathers back he pushed on him slightly but like everything else Sesshomaru was unmovable. Sniffling Inuyasha let out an angry cry.
"What is that next to her?" Rin swallowed hard. Inuyasha looked over seeing his mother wrapped up in a spiders web. The dark shadow figure loomed behind her appearing to be in the stone wall.
Large spiders legs jutted from the webbing entrapping Kagome further. Inuyasha rushed to the Tessaiga and with a battle cry launched himself at the thing. "No! You might hurt mama!"
Stilling Inuyasha growled. "We should go back and tell the others, figure this out."
"No!" Inuyasha screamed. "I'm not gonna run anymore Rin! I'm sick of hiding and running. I'm gonna save her even if it kills me! Inferno fury!"
As the blade was enveloped in flame Inuyasha swiped it upwards at the spiders legs avoiding his mother. The burst into flames falling to the ground.
For a moment he smirked to himself proud only to visibly jump when more grew back. "No way!"
"Look out Inuyasha!" Rin yelled taking out her boe staff and rushing closer to him. Silken tendrils had shot out from the webbing towards Inuyasha hitting them with Tessaiga as Rin negated them with her staff she hissed.
Pointing the Tessaiga at the demon he saw and could smell wind. Staring wide eyed he could see two cyclones coming together and clash creating an electric current.
"Is it the wind scar?" He wondered aloud. "Do I cut it?"
"Inuyasha?" Rin questioned glancing at him not seeing anything that hadn't already been there.
"That is it! Where the two wind go together…if I cut it then I can save mama!" Swiping the Tessaiga across he watched as the shadow spider dissipated becoming nothing but a mist before evaporating.
Kagome was released from the webbing as it took vanished. Falling to the ground in a heap both of them ran to her.
"Mama!" Inuyasha practically laid on top of her burying his face against her.
"Inu…yasha?" She croaked out groggily.
"You're awake." Rin breathed out.
"Rin. Shippo?" She managed out.
"He's outside with Koga." Rin said. "What happened?"
"Naraku…it's a trap…not safe…" Kagome whispered out. "Miasma…infected me…parasite…" Looking up at the wall Rin saw the shadow figure once again.
As her eyes trailed down she saw it was coming from Kagome, the shadow, the spiders web…all of it.
"Oh no." She grasped Inuyasha away from her quickly.
"No Rin! I want mama!" He cried thrashing.
"Inuyasha! Listen to me! Mama has been taken by a demon! That is why the lady Kikyo put the barrier up, it took mama and they couldn't stop it." She explained.
"What do we do Rin?" He asked looking at her dead in the face. Both of their ears laid flat against their heads. Similarly their faces were drawn down into solemnity.
"Try to dispel the barrier." She said. "Maybe we can make a difference with the Tessaiga here…either way…whatever we do probably will have consequences."
Swallowing hard Inuyasha gave a slight nod of understanding. Turning from her he held the Tessaiga out pointing it at Kagome. Willing it he saw it turn red as it willed the blood crystal power to come forth.
"Red Tessaiga!" He yelled swiping across the room with his sword.
