Chapter 2: Soft & Wet Part 1
"My name is...Who am I? I don't know...? Where am I?"
The boy began to look around the room to see a couple of medical objects laying on top of the counter.
"I don't know what those are."
He then turned to stare out the window and saw a homeless looking man walking by.
"That man had a dirty hat and a dirty beard, is he homeless? Am I homeless? Will I ever be homeless? But, where did I even come from? Crap, I can't remember that either; can I not remember anything?!"
After the boy forcibly closed his eyes out of frustration, he turned to look out of the window once again to see a bird laying on its nest on top of a sign.
"Oh wait, I know what that thing is! It's a European Herring Gull, it looks like it is 57.1cm and a female."
Suddenly, the boy heard the entrance door open. He turned to see Sally walk in holding an open basket.
"That's Sally Syrup, she is 132.5cm. That's a girl's name...Sally."
Sally scanned the room a bit to find nothing but a large lump on the bed. Out of curiosity, Sally walked closer to the bed to press down on the lump. She then suddenly felt a hand grab hold of her leg causing her to stumble back from fear dropping the basket filled with peppermint candy while screaming in terror. The boy quickly popped his head out of the mattress after Sally calmed herself down.
Sally: What the hell is wrong with you?! You scared me half to death!
?: I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. all I wanted to say was hi.
The boy gave Sally an awkward smile making her sigh while getting back up.
Sally: Why are you under the mattress?
?: Am I not supposed to? It feels more comfortable than laying on the surface of the bed.
The boy then glanced down to notice the scattered candy on the floor.
?: What are those red things on the ground?
Sally: Oh, those? It's candy, it was suppose to be your get well gift until you scared me...
The boy slithered off the mattress to pick up one of the candy to observe it before putting it in his mouth to chew it. After he swallowed the candy, the boy's eyes widened while the top of his hat began to twirl.
?: WOWIE~! WHAT IS THIS?! THIS IS SO DAMN GO~OD!
Sally: It's a peppermint candy, have you never had it before? Stormalong is known for it.
?: I've never heard of it but I'm so happy that I do now!
While the boy continued to eat the candy off the floor, Sally sat down on the edge of the bed.
Sally: So, where are you from? Do you come from a family full of sailors or something?
From hearing the question, the boy stopped for a moment to pay his attention to Sally while getting up.
?: Well, I'm not actually sure; I don't remember anything. I do know how to read, count, tie my shoes, I know the difference between my right and left. I know about Ferdinand Magellan, Marco Polo, and other famous explorers. But I don't know anything about myself; what my name is, what my favorite color, what my family is like, things like that.
Sally: How far can you remember? like, what was your last memory?
The boy stopped for a moment to think.
?: The last thing I remember is...
He then turned to Sally to walk towards her to hug her.
?: You. Sally Syrup...Height, 132.5 centimeters.
The boy began to hug tighter making Sally turn blue in the face.
?: I don't know anyone else in this world except for you.
Sally: I-I'm glad t-that I've made you happy, b-but...you are...squeezing me a little too hard...!
The boy let go allowing Sally to catch her breath while coughing.
?: Sorry, I didn't know I was hugging you that tight...
Sally: No, it's fine. But I just notice something, did you have that hat the whole time?
The boy glanced up to notice his sailor hat.
?: Huh, now that you've mentioned it, I have been wearing this hat the whole time.
Sally: I think I know the shop maker! May I see it really quick?
The boy took off his hat to hand it to Sally allowing her to look inside it to see a tag that reads "Lolly Hat-Shop".
Sally: I knew it! I know the shop keeper who sold this hat to you, he's not that far from here so we could visit him.
?: It's strange because I don't remember buying this hat.
Sally: Well he might remember selling it to you, let's go.
As Sally was making her way towards the entrance door, the boy spoke up before she could leave.
?: Wait, the bald man told me to stay here until he's done with a haircut.
Sally: Well he's not here right now, is he? Let's go before he gets back.
?: I don't know Sally, I think we should ju-
Sally: I will give you more cand~y!
The boy's eyes widened while is mouth began to drool from the thought of it.
?: OKAY!
Sally quickly grabbed hold of the boy's hand to lead him outside the doctor's office. Later after the both of them traveled across town, they made it outside of the Hat Shop.
Sally: Well, here we are. Do you recognize any of the town around here?
The boy took a minute to think while looking around his surrounding.
?: No, I don't recognize this place.
The kids then stepped inside the shop quickly being recognized by the shopkeeper.
?: Oh Sally, what a surprise to see you.
Sally: Hi Mr. Poopdeck
Mr. Poopdeck: So, what can I help you with?
Sally: I was wondering if you remember selling this hat to this guy, if not then it's fine.
After Sally gave Mr. Poopdeck the hat, he began to examine it then looked back at the boy before giving the hat back.
Mr. Poopdeck: Oh yeah, I remember. You bought it three days ago sir.
From what Mr. Poopdeck said, both kids stood in silence until the boy broke it by shouting.
?: Me?! Just now you said I bought this hat three days ago, are you sure it was me?!
Mr. Poopdeck: Yeah, I knew you looked familiar but something's seems different though.
Sally: It doesn't matter, did he give you his name and address when he bought it?
Mr. Poopdeck shrugged his shoulders before answering Sally's question.
Mr. Poopdeck: Why yes, he did. He filled in a form to claim the hat, give me a second.
He began to crouch down to look under the desk to grab hold of a large book and reading glasses creating a thud after placing the book on the surface. After putting on the glasses, Mr. Poopdeck began to flip the pages until he spotted the name.
Mr. Poopdeck: Ha-ha! found it!
Sally: Well, what does it say?
Mr. Poopdeck: It says here that his name is Salmon Ciara.
From shock, both kids fell in silence once again.
Sally: Salmon...?
?: Ciara...?
Sally: Salmon Ciara...we did it.
Sally turned to face the boy to grab hold of both of his hands.
Sally: We did it! We finally found your name! And it looks like you are a citizen of this town, do you remember anything yet?
The boy said nothing while turning to walk towards the nearest window to look at the town.
?: ...Nope, nothing.
Without saying a word, Sally grabbed the book from Mr. Poopdeck to flip the pages.
Mr. Poopdeck: Hey, uh Sally. You shouldn't look at that, there's a lot of personal information in that book.
Sally: Sorry Mr. Poopdeck, but I'm trying to see if his address is in here.
Sally continued until she spotted the address under 'Salmon Ciara'.
Sally: Yes! I found it! It's building 258-208. Perfect! Thanks for your help Mr. Poopdeck!
After Sally placed the book back in its original spot, her and the boy exited the entrance leaving Mr. Poopdeck behind.
Mr. Poopdeck: You're welcome...tell your father I said hi...
Later after leaving the shop, both kids made it outside of the building.
Sally: Well, this is the place. Does it look familiar to you?
The boy shook his head before they made it inside the entrance. After walking in, both kids was amazed on how large the hallway was.
Sally: Wow, this place is huge! Wait here, I'll go check which apartment room you live in.
After Sally walked towards the counter, the boy stood there while looking around and thinking to himself.
"This is...a house...this is my home...I walked the path in front of the building. I went up those stairs, and down them to do whatever hobby I do."
The boy quickly lost his train of thought when Sally caught his attention.
Sally: Hey, I know that this sounds a bit bizarre, but I thought that I would tell you that I came up with a nickname for you just in case we didn't figure out your real name.
?: Well I don't think I need that nickname anymore since we've already figured it out.
Sally: Yeah, it's Salmon Ciara, but that name doesn't seem to fit you so I've thought of the name Flapjack for you.
From the nickname, the boy became confused making him repeat the name.
?: "Flapjack"?
Sally: Yeah, you kind of remind me of a dog I use to have when I was little and I named him Flapjack.
?: A...dog?
Sally: Oh, and also I found your apartment number, it's room 204.
From hearing the room number, the boy scanned the hallway to spot the door making him point at it.
?: Room 204, it's 10 meters and 22 centimeters from the entrance of the building, but it's probably locked; there might be a manager somewhere to unlo-...
Before the boy could finish what he was saying, he noticed that Sally was walking towards the door making him follow her.
?: Sally, what are you doing? The door is locked.
Sally: I know that, do you think your family is inside?
?: I don't feel any presence in there, so I doubt it.
Sally: I thought so, can you help lift me up?
From Sally's request, the boy's face suddenly turned red making him stutter his words.
?: B-B-But, you're wearing a skirt.
Sally: Well I trust you enough to not peek, so stop being a baby and help me.
The boy sighed and began to crouch down to let Sally sit on his neck. After the boy stood back up, she began to stand on the boy's shoulders to have a better look at the top of the door.
?: This is ridiculous Sally, who would be stupid enough to-
Sally: I found the key!
?: WHAT?!
From shock, the boy lost his balance causing him and Sally to fall.
Sally: Jeez, nice balancing skills...
From Sally's sarcastic comment, the boy sighed while face palming himself.
?: Let's just unlock the door...
After the both got up, Sally unlocked the door to open it revealing a small apartment with a small kitchen, sailor outfits near the entrance door, and a picture frame of a blue sperm whale above the couch. After the boy closed the door behind them, Sally grabbed the clothes from the rack to compare it with the boy's body.
Sally: Well, that settles it; the clothes fits you perfectly same with the shoes. We should have our parent's repo-
Suddenly, the kids heard a noise from another room grabbing both of their attention.
Sally: What was that?
?: Is someone here?
