A/N: My annoyance at that Green Lantern X Miraculous post I saw on tumblr made me want to post this chapter, which was already written before S4 was released, but hit a major roadblock that prevented this story from being completed.
It's quite coincidental too, this chapter introduces us to some members of the Justice League.
As the Akuma attack only lasted for some time, classes back at College Francois Dupont continued as usual. Some were grumbling but they nonetheless listened to their current lessons.
As soon as the dismissal bell rang, Marinette was quick to put her things back into her bag and immediately approached the new student.
Which made Marinette close enough for her to be able to hear the conversation.
"I totally forgot!" Lila exclaimed to her seatmate. "Say, Billy, do you want to meet Captain Marvel and his wife?" She asked her seatmate. "Mary Marvel is worried that her husband isn't meeting with other people and would become like his enemy, Black Adam." She sighed.
"S-sure?" Billy didn't really know how to respond.
"It's a promise alright?" Lila sweetly smiled.
"Is that true Lila?" Marinette innocently asked. "Maybe your lying disease is acting up again." She pointed out. "I really don't want Billy to be akumatized because you couldn't deliver on your promise." She hummed. "Especially since he's new to Paris and all."
"N-no." Lila stuttered. "Of course not." She smiled. "I'll totally get them to meet with you, Billy." She assured the boy.
"Y-yeah." Billy slowly nodded.
"Hey, Lila!" Rose called out. "Have you made peace with Damian?"
"I'm sorry Rose." Lila sighed. "I know how much you would love to meet him, but he and I aren't really talking to each other right now." She sniffled as a lone tear fell from her left eye.
"O-oh no." Rose immediately rushed to the girl. "I'm sorry." She apologized. "I shouldn't have rushed you to it."
"It's alright Rose." Lila offered a smile. "I know you didn't mean any harm."
"I'm so sorry about that Lila." Rose apologized once more.
"So Billy!" Marinette called the new student's attention. "About that tour."
"Oh right!" Billy nodded. "If you would."
"It would be my pleasure." Marinette smiled.
After the tour, Billy offered to walk Marinette to her home. It turned out that she was also living close by.
"I didn't know you owned a bakery." Billy stated.
"I don't want to brag," Marinette admitted. "Besides, you'd have run into it sooner or later." She smiled. "I'm surprised your family found an apartment building so close to the school." She stated.
"It's mostly me." Billy corrected. "Uncle Dudley and the Vasquezes have their hands full with my foster siblings." He informed. "Apart from work reasons, they can't really come here and monitor me."
"That must be lonely." Marinette sighed.
"I've lived in the streets, so I can survive whatever the universe throws at me." Billy offered. "That and my foster parents and Uncle Dudley trust me enough to live on my own."
"You really love your foster parents don't you?" Marinette smiled.
"If there's one thing I'd like, it's that I would love to have my twin sister with me." Billy sighed.
"You're a twin!" Marinette exclaimed.
"Fraternal twin."
"Still!" Marinette insisted.
"In any case, there's one thing I'm curious about in class." Billy changed the subject. "What is Lila Rossi's deal?" He inquired. "She has this aura around her that I can't explain."
"Oh, Lila." Marinette sighed. "Well, depending on who you ask, to me, Lila's been one big fat liar." She informed bluntly.
"Has no one ever tried to correct those lies?" Billy inquired. "I know for a fact that Damian Wayne doesn't know a Lila Rossi." He added. "I had the privilege of interviewing the Waynes a few times and they never mentioned meeting someone like her at all in those interviews."
Marinette listened to Billy's explanations with an open mind as they continued to walk towards the bakery.
"In fact, Mr. Wayne's youngest son isn't the social kind, well he at least gives off that impression." Billy supplied
"I did once upon a time," Marinette admitted. "I had this crush on Adrien and people immediately assumed that I was jealous of Lila and dismissed everything I said." She sighed. "She's also vying for him since the beginning."
"Have you done something that would warrant that kind of reaction?" Billy curiously asked.
"I admit that I've done some things I'm not proud of in the name of love." Marinette sheepishly chuckled. "I do know that's where the jealousy reason came from." She added. "It's still strange that all my attempts to discredit all of Lila's lies always end in failure," She sighed. "It got me expelled from school."
"That is troubling," Billy nodded. "I'm guessing that's where the lying disease came from?"
"You got it one." Marinette praised. "Well if it's you, who's somehow fluent in French despite being American, It's not a surprise."
Billy winced at the praise. He had cheated the system a bit and used magic to learn the language, with the assistance of the Wisdom of Solomon. He knew it was necessary to avoid miscommunication, it didn't mean that he liked that he was being praised for gaining something on a silver platter."
"In any case, welcome to my parents' bakery!" Marinette declared. "Boulangerie Patisserie" She gestured towards the store's sign.
Marinette opened the door and let Billy and herself inside the establishment.
"Maman! Papa!" Marinette called out. "I'm home!"
"Hello, Marinette!" Marinette's mother greeted as she restocked the shelves with freshly baked bread.
"This is William Joseph Batson, he offered to walk me home." Marinette introduced her companion.
"How sweet." Marinette's mother cooed.
"These are my parents, Sabine Cheng and Tom Dupain."
"It's nice to meet you." Billy offered his hand to shake.
"It's nice to meet you as well, Billy." Sabine shook the boy's hand. "It's sweet of you to walk our daughter home."
"A fine gentleman indeed." Tom nodded as he too approached the young boy and shook his hand.
"It's the least I could do for making her go home so late," Billy smiled amicably at the two adults. "She was charged with touring me around the school." He explained.
"Doesn't change that you're a sweet boy William." Sabine smiled.
"Billy's fine."
"In any case young man, care to join us for dinner?" Tom invited the young boy.
"No thank you." Billy declined the offer. "I still have things to do back at my apartment." He explained. "I need to call my foster parents and siblings about my first day at school." He added. "And assure them that I hadn't run away."
"O-oh my." Sabine gasped at the revelation.
"If that's the case, bring some pastries with you," Tom stated as he offered the boy a bag of bread. "It's on the house."
"N-no."
"Just accept them." Marinette giggled as she went up the stairs. "They'll just ask me to find where you live and give them to you."
"O-oh okay." Billy smiled. "Thank you very much." He expressed his gratitude. "M Dupain, Mme Cheng, Marinette I'll be heading out now."
"Take care, Billy." Sabine smiled.
"I will."
The family that owned the bakery waited until Billy was out of their sight before they faced each other.
"He's an orphan." Sabine stated.
"No need to worry, Sabine," Tom assured. "Billy's got a family." He smiled.
"I hope so, dear."
"You should invite Billy over, Marinette," Tom ordered his daughter. "Let's make him feel at home despite being away from a loving family."
"Of course, Papa." Marinette agreed readily.
Billy had just finished eating the dinner he cooked. He was just about to change his clothes when he slumped unto his bed, tired from the day's numerous events.
First day of school, classes, and an Akuma battle on top of that.
No wonder Hawkmoth was having a blast making supervillains out of Paris' citizenry.
Suddenly, Billy's phone rang, snapping him from his thoughts.
"Bonjour"
"Billy?" The other line answered. "Are you speaking French?"
"Sorry, Courtney." Billy apologized. "I didn't think to check who was on the other line." He admitted. "I thought it was one of my new classmates."
"How do you know French?!" Courtney exclaimed. "No, not important." She immediately amended her statement. "The league's on their way to Paris now." She informed the boy. "They don't look very happy with your words either."
Billy merely sighed at this development.
"Can you at least let them know to wait outside Paris's border?" Billy asked. "I can't have one member of the league going rogue due to magical means." She explained. "And could you at least get Wonder Woman and Aquaman to accompany Batman and Superman?"
"How'd you know Batman and Superman were the ones coming?"
"Just a hunch." Billy explained.
"If you say so." Courtney sighed.
"Billy, if there's something I can do to help." Courtney began. "Despite us being exes, you know you can count on me right?"
"I know Court." Billy nodded. "I know that, but you know that the league and I aren't on good terms right now." He added. "I can't have you put in a position where you have to choose." He explained. "We can still hang out as civilians."
"I hope you know what you're doing, Billy," Courtney whispered. "In any case, they'll be there in an hour," She swerved the topic to their previous discussion. "I messaged the league as we spoke," She explained. "Anyway Billy, talk to you later, I know your siblings are impatiently waiting for you to call."
"Who's impatient?!" Someone from the other line yelled.
"You're at home?" Billy exclaimed. "Figures Batman would send you." He sighed.
"I volunteered actually," Courtney giggled. "I told them you were in France but no they wanted to check on your home."
"Same old Batman." Billy sighed. "Thanks for the heads up Court."
"You're Welcome, Bill."
Just outside Paris's border, Captain Marvel landed softly on the ground as few figures teleported to his location.
Batman, Robin, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman stood before Captain Marvel.
"Didn't know Robin would be here." Captain Marvel muttered to himself.
"Marvel." Batman began. "Your words against the league have garnered the world's attention. "What did you mean by ignoring the situation of Paris?" He inquired.
"I'll answer that question Batman once Wonder Woman and Aquaman answer my question." Captain Marvel responded. "Wonder Woman, Aquaman, what do you know of the Miraculous?"
"How does that answer our question, Marvel?" Superman inquired.
"Diana, Arthur, answer Marvel's inquiry." Batman ordered.
"My mother once wielded the Ladybug Miraculous." Wonder Woman answered. "She helped the world of Men during her time." She added. "There was also a Black Cat Miraculous holder among the amazons, she was one of those who perished during Darkseid's latest attack." She finished somberly.
"Atlantis was once a surface country." Aquaman followed suit. "The last remaining Prince of the Kingdom has acquired both the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculous and wished for the resurrection of his older brothers and sisters that had perished in a war." He added.
"Any wish granted by both the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculous would need a greater sacrifice." Wonder Woman's exclaimed.
"Yes, that sacrifice was the sinking of Atlantis." Aquaman nodded. "The prince wished for the resurrection and to stop the invasions against the country." He explained. "As such the sacrifice required was great." He added. "Almost all of Atlantis's people perished when the country sunk."
"Let me ask you, Captain, what does that have to do with your words to the media last Saturday?" Wonder Woman inquired. "You can't possibly say that the Miraculous has been activated don't you?"
"Yes, they are." Marvel nodded. "They've been active for months now."
"H-how?!" Aquaman exclaimed. "Why?!"
"The Moth and Peacock Miraculous are used for villainy," Captain Marvel answered. "Someone has gotten a hold of both Miraculouses to wreak havoc in the city of Paris," He explained. "From what I gathered, someone by the name of Hawk-"
Before Captain Marvel could even continue his explanations, shouts and shrieks were heard all over Paris. This did not escape the league's notice.
"Really?!" Marvel growled. "You were supposed to Akumatize every other day."
"Marvel, what is happening?" Superman floated.
"No!" Captain Marvel exclaimed. "None of you are to enter Paris!"
"Wha-!"
"I don't want to fight someone from the league ever again." Captain Marvel growled. "By way of an emotional terrorist or not." He continued. "Once was enough."
"Let us trust Marvel," Batman stated. "He knows more than we do." He explained.
"Robin do you have your phone with you?" Captain Marvel looked at Batman's new protégé.
"Whatever do you need of my phone, Marvel," Robin growled. "You better not overcharge like what your siblings did."
"Would I ever do that Robin?"
"Character lies are moot Marvel," Robin huffed. "Get on with it."
"Right."
Marvel opened the Ladyblog site via Robin's phone.
Marvel's hunch was right, Alya Cesaire was indeed streaming the current Akuma fight.
"If you want to know what's happening in the city, look at this," Captain Marvel handed Robin's phone to Batman. "An aspiring journalist is currently streaming what's happening in Paris, despite the risks." He explained.
Soon after, Marvel utilized the Speed of Mercury to help with the fight against the Akuma. Not a moment later, he appeared on the screen of Robin's phone helping two heroes in fighting the villain.
"It really is true," Aquaman stated in horror. "They're really activated."
"It is safe to assume that both the Moth and Peacock Miraculous are being used for Villainy as Marvel said." Wonder Woman nodded.
"Whitemore was right in telling us not to enter Paris at all," Robin commented. "The revelation alone would've made us doing the villain's bidding."
"It is a good thing we listened to Marvel's words this time." Wonder Woman agreed as she gave a glance at Superman.
Marvel was back with the league outside of Paris's borders.
"One question Captain." Superman stepped forward. "What made you notice Paris?" He questioned. "Why now?"
"The Wizard made it a priority." Captain Marvel answered. "Something was amiss between Creation and Destruction." He explained. "So I came here to investigate and get to the bottom of it." He added. "And possibly get rid of that something that has tipped the scales."
"Something's wrong with the Miraculous?" Batman's eyes narrowed at the implications.
"It's absorbing some magic that was meant for its wielder," Marvel answered the question. "The Miraculous' magic does counteract against the one it absorbed but with the focus only there, the other half of Paris's heroic duo would act in a way unbefitting of a hero."
"I did notice that as we viewed the stream." Wonder Woman nodded. "At first he was acting like a rabid tomcat that only has set his eyes on a mouse or a mate." She explained. "After Marvel has shocked him one time, he was acting as he should be." She added. "Acting like a heroic warrior."
"I think that's enough explanations from Marvel," Batman stated. "Wonder Woman and Aquaman, you are to brief the rest of the league of what is happening in Paris." He ordered. "Robin gather the family and brief them of what you know."
As Batman gave orders, Superman approached Captain Marvel, who was tense.
"You know can count on the league's help." Superman placed a hand on the Captain's shoulders.
Captain Marvel gulped, still tense from the battle he was just in and the fact that this was like the second time he and Superman encountered each other since their brawl years ago.
"I-I know," Captain Marvel nodded. "I have this handled." He assured the man of steel.
"I know I should've stated right after you left the league, but I am sorry." Superman apologized. "I know I should've listened to your input but I let my hatred towards Luthor cloud my judgment. "He admitted.
"Are you just saying that because of the little call-out I did a few days ago?" Captain Marvel inquired with a raised eyebrow.
"N-no th-that's…" Superman trailed off. "It's a bit of that." The man of steel sighed in admission. "I keep thinking of worst-case scenarios if I do approach you." He explained. "And another brawl would break out."
"Give me a little credit here Superman." Captain Marvel responded. "I may have been a child then but I know for a fact that the worst-case scenarios we both thought up won't happen." He sighed. "I certainly handled things better than expected when I handed in my resignation from the league."
"You're right." Superman nodded. "For what it's worth, I apologize, I promise to do better."
"I know." Captain Marvel smiled. "For what it's worth, I don't bear a shred of resentment because of what happened." He informed the man of steel. "I just don't know if I could bring myself to be on missions alongside you." He admitted. "But I have forgiven you."
"You're a good person Marvel." Superman smiled. "I hope people and heroes alike look to you as an example."
"I hope not." Captain Marvel smiled. "I don't want people putting me on a pedestal." He admitted. "I'm as flawed as you and Batman, as flawed as any normal kid out there."
"Despite all this power, you still haven't lost your ground." Batman nodded. "Thank you for the explanations, Marvel."
Batman approached both men and placed a hand on Superman's shoulders.
"Superman, we're needed back at the Watchtower." The dark knight stated.
"Right."
"Batman someone should get Bruce Wayne and Damian Wayne to release a statement." Captain Marvel suggested. "Someone in my class has been claiming that they've been friends with the youngest Wayne and she had to turn him down." He explained.
"Who is this person?" Batman's eyes narrowed.
"I don't think that's a good idea, Batman," Superman stated. "Can you reveal anything to us without divulging their names?"
"From what I gathered, she's an Italian transfer student. Her mother works in the Italian Embassy." Captain Marvel answered. "She also made claims about me, I am still waiting for her to reveal that information in public before making my statement." He informed the duo of heroes."
"I'm afraid to ask, but what has she claimed about you, Marvel?" Superman inquired.
"She claimed to go a long way with Mary Marvel and that we're apparently husband and wife."
Superman's and Batman's eyes narrowed at the statement. They were well-versed in Billy's family life and that included his twin sister and foster siblings.
Billy's relationship with Stargirl was a nightmare to those who were aware and unaware of Marvel's identity.
"Once she publicly claims that you and your family should make a statement immediately." Batman ordered.
"Noted."
With that, both Superman and Batman teleported away from the scene.
1:59 AM
Billy: Just a heads up
Billy: A classmate of mine claims to go a long way with you.
Billy: Goes a long way with your heroic identity.
2:00 AM
Billy: Apparently, the both of us are husband and wife.
Billy: Our hero identities are apparently married.
Billy: I'll text you the time to call me, the talk with the league drained me.
Billy: Tell Freddy and everyone else good night.
2:01 AM
Mary: You better William!
Mary: Good Night!
2:02 AM
Mary: Everyone says good night as well.
Mary: Sleep tight Billy.
11:23 AM
Billy: Call me around 6:00 AM, your time.
Morning classes came and went and before Billy knew it, it was already lunchtime. He was startled when his phone started ringing impatiently. Thankfully he had just finished eating his lunch before his phone rang.
He immediately excused himself from his classmates and headed towards the school's restroom to answer his phone.
"What do you mean we're husband and wife?!" Billy heard the angry voice of his twin sister.
"Relax, will you," Billy rolled his eyes at his sister's reaction. "There's a liar in my class who's telling tall tales." He explained. "While she only said that tidbit to me, it won't be long till she would tell that tall tale to my new classmates." He added. "I'm just giving you a heads up."
"I take it that you already have a plan in mind?" Mary asked.
"I still have a few things to consider before enacting it," Billy admitted. "I have a huge suspicion that she's actually a part of my mission here in Paris."
"If you sa-"
Before Mary could even continue her words, she heard the screams of panic and the alert through the phone.
"Billy, what's going on?" Mary asked in worry.
"Remember my mission?" Billy rhetorically asked. "This is part of it, the party where someone makes villains out of emotional people." He supplied. "I'm going to have to cut this call short, bye Mary."
"Take care, Billy."
Billy dismissed the call before he called out the wizard's name and transformed into his champion form.
