Music:
"Aaaaahhhh! Too much green!" Ty shrieked and shielded his eyes after Chester opened the door to his bedroom.
"Wow Chester, it's like a jungle in here." Abby commented.
The blonde boy bashfully scratched the back of his head and let out a nervous chuckle. "Yeah, I guess it is a bit overcrowded but you know," he paused for a moment, "I love plants."
Abby stepped inside, followed close by her brother and looked around a bit. The room was absolutely full of potted plants. There was a ponytail palm and a bromeliad on a work desk, a red prayer plant on a night table and the entire windowsill was stock full of potted plants that Abby couldn't even name. There was even a spider plant suspended in the air by chains.
'I better not ask about the plants or Chester will give a four hour lecture about each and every one. Latin names and everything else.' Abby thought amusingly. She loved the guy and his gardening hobby certainly made him stand out from all the gamers and jocks she'd met but sometimes he could go a little crazy with his hobby. Granted, she wasn't much better when it came to her interest but still…
Finally, she found something that wasn't a pot or a plant. Rather it was something related to her not-really-boyfriend's other hobby. "Hey, I didn't know you played the guitar." Abby said as she picked up an electric guitar from a stance by the bed.
"Yeah, my dad bought it for me when I was a kid. Kind of amazed it still works actually." Chester replied. Abby handed him the instrument and he strapped it over his shoulder. Affectionately, he stroked his fingers across the strings, his eyes half-lidded.
Abby smiled cheekily. "Can you play us something?"
That startled the poor blonde. He stared at her for a few seconds as a visible blush spread across his face. "N-no. I mean, I'm not very good."
Abby pouted but then a wily idea got her smirking. "Well that's a shame." She said, innocent as a fawn. "Girls love guys who can play guitar."
The young gardener blinked. "I-I guess I can play you something short. If-if you want me to, that is?"
"I would love to hear you play something you've written yourself." Abby flirtatiously suggested.
Chester's face got even redder. "I-I do ha-have one in-in mi-mind."
Ty looked at Chester. He was blushing. He then looked at Abby. Her eyes were fluttering. Ty was a genius but he didn't need to be to figure out what was happening here. "Actually, I need to go." He took a backwards step with his hands behind his back. "I just remembered um, I promised Naomi to help her with um, advanced calculous. So, see yah!" And with that, Ty disappeared thru the door.
Chester blinked puzzled while Abby smiled. 'Thank you Ty. I have to remind myself to repay you later.' She turned to her blonde friend. "So, you're gonna play something for me, Hendrix?"
"Huh? Oh yeah, sure." Chester babbled before plugging his guitar into an amp (which was probably the most technologically advanced thing in the room). Abby meanwhile climbed onto Chester's bed, leaned her back against the wall and propped up her legs.
Chester took a stand in front of the bed. He double checked the tuners before gazing at his one-woman audience. His bashful smile twitched and Abby couldn't help but mimic his expression, shifting her bottom a little to get cozy.
He started playing. The music was from a song he'd written himself. The lyrics went unsung but they were about a girl with red hair as long as her body, eyes as blue as the sky and a smile as warm as the sun. A girl tough as nails yet with a heart of pure gold. A girl he couldn't imagine living without yet one he didn't deserve. On occasion he would hymn the words but never loud enough for anyone to hear above his tunes.
Meanwhile, Abby rested her cheek against her hand, smiling content as she watched her friend rock out. The melody was good, really good even, it felt like meant for her somehow but what truly captivated her was the soloist who played it. She let herself get lost in the music, dreaming of the day she wouldn't have to persuade him to serenade her.
