Asami

As my girlfriend rings the doorbell, I try to make a break for it, but she grabs a hold of my hood, pulling me back.

"Stop! You said you felt comfortable doing this." She states, as she smells the pie we brought over.

"I did! I'm just having a little fun. Relax." I reply, while rubbing my girl's back.

She's so tense, and I don't know why. We're the guest, we've the advantage. If things turn sour, we can just leave. I'm also great with coming up with excuses.

That's how I avoid early runs with Korra.

"Are you sure this is homemade, it doesn't smell like it?"

I roll my eyes, and snatch the pie from her so she doesn't have something to cradle. If she wants to hold something, let her hold me. I'm sweeter and actually the real deal. Unlike this artificially made pie, I just put into a dish.

"Yes, it's a real pie. I just didn't make it."

"Sami!"

"What!? You said get a pie. Why does it matter if it's homemade or not? I'm not Martha Stewart. I'm just a small town girl, living in a lonely world." I tease, while flicking her ear.

"You most definitely aren't a small town girl or lonely."

"You're right! I've you and this amazing homemade pie." I reply, while interlocking our arms.

"They're making this homemade meal for us, the least we could do was make dessert. I just wanted to show some thought."

"There was thought, Baby! The baker at Trader Joe's, really broke a sweat making Blueberry Pie #11 today."

My girlfriend smiles, and I'm happy to see her no longer feeling nervous.

I'm not just hungry and looking forward to dinner, but this week has been great to us.

We finally found the perfect place in East Village.

With three bedrooms, Korra can have her guest room, and I can have my art studio. Nia has been nothing but patient and helpful throughout our search. Now I can breathe again.

No one knows about our new purchase yet, but that's bound to change, because we move in two weeks.

The door finally creeps open, and we're met with Jane. Jin's cute little girl.

"Welcome to our Hobe." She says. The fact she didn't say home, makes my heart swell.

When my girlfriend kneels and shakes her hand, I clench my chest.

This is too cute.

"Nice to meet you, Madam." She says, getting Jane to giggle.

"Heyyy. The guests of honor has finally arrived."

"You say that like we would be late. You know Korra has to be super early for everything." I tease, as Mako and I exchange hugs.

"Hopefully that quality rubbed off on you. No one at Fire Ferrets has yet, surpassed your record of late slips. " And with that reply, I take a bow.

"It's nice to have left such a legacy."

His smile grows even wider when I step aside, so he can see Korra.

"Your hair is growing quickly." She says, leaning against the wall, looking just as adorable as Jane.

Mako touches his head, then pretends to flip it.

"Me? Your hair is the one that looks the same from when I first met you. Long and probably still in the way of people."

My girlfriend laughs and gives Mako a giant hug, which he happily returns. He even goes the extra mile, by lifting her off the ground.

An action that's cute to watch but also like, let's tone it down a bit.

I'm kidding! I'm happy these exs aren't awkward with each other. Gez. Do you really think I could get jealous, when we both are with amazing people!?

"Alright! Where's the woman of the house?" I ask, breaking up the bffs.

"Jin! They're here." Mako yells, getting the woman of question to make her way down the stairs.

"I thought I heard people at the door. Sorry, I was taking a small nap. She says.

This isn't my first time meeting Jin, but it's Korra's.

Therefore, I look forward into seeing their interaction. Not solely out of curiosity, but Jin is a nice person.

Korra

Once I look up the stairs, I'm faced with a gorgeous woman with brown hair and amazing blue/green eyes. Mako really did a great job finding this one. Jane is a spitting image of her mother, as well.

She finally get's down the stairs, and before Mako introduces us, she pushes him to the side. "Nice to finally meet you, Korra." She says, pulling me into a hug. And it's one of the tightest hugs I've ever had.

We pull away and she looks me up and down. "You're very easy on the eyes, no wonder Mako cherished you."

I let out an awkward laugh, because I don't know how to respond to that.

"I think Asami can agree with that." Mako adds, which gets Asami to open her mouth in shock.

"Oh. Now. If I would've said that, I would be in the wrong." She defends, getting all of us to laugh.

"It's nice to finally meet you Jin, sorry we didn't meet at the party."

"Nonsense. I had a wonderful time. I don't' think I've ever been invited to an A List celebrity party before. I saw Jason Momoa too!"

"He's really great friends with Tenzin. I was just as surprised seeing him there, like yourself. I was the birthday girl, and I still couldn't say hello." I tease.

"I'm glad you didn't meet him, because it would've been End-Game." Ha-Ha. Get it? Because he's a superhero?" Asami chimes in, getting Mako and I to groan.

"Endgame is Marvel! Aquaman is DC. There is no connection! Literally none! I can't even try to understand what you meant. Ugh. Korra, how can you not catch her up on these things." The hurt man, stresses.

"Hey! I don't like to force my interests onto her. Besides, I like her the way she is. Clueless." I tease, giving her a kiss before she can rant about how offended she is by my comment.

"I'm hungry, Mako." Jane whines, getting Mako to lift up the little girl. "Let's get you in your high chair, then we can get you some food."

It's nice seeing his improvement when it comes to children. It took forever for him to adjust with Tenzin's kids. Especially Meelo. But in fairness, it takes a certain type of person to handle him.

"Could you pinpoint me to your washroom?" I ask, Jin.

"Yes. Go down the hall and make a left. We're potty training Jane, so there is a huge pink potty in the hall. You can't miss it."

I thank Jin, and motion for Asami to follow me.

The moment we get to the room, I shut the door and turn on the lights.

"Wow! Their lights are amazing. I want lights like these in our apartment. You think the bulbs can be unscrewed? I want to see what brand they're."

I bring my silly girlfriend's hand down from the bulb, then wrap my arms her waist.

"Mmm. I didn't have to unscrew anything for you to get a great idea."

"And what idea is that?" I ask amused.

"I don't know? You tell me. What kind of girl goes to the bathroom with another girl?"

"OH!? I'm just another girl to you? I think this girl does a little more than the average girl." I defend, while resting my chin onto her collarbone, starring up at our reflection.

We've all came a long way, but I'm mainly addressing Asami and I.

In a few weeks, we'll be living together. That's a huge step in our relationship. I'm super nervous, but also excited about it. I get to spend the majority of my day with someone I love, in a place we both love.

I'm very grateful for this opportunity, and this woman right here in my arms.

I take one hand off of her's, and grab the soap bottle.

"They're waiting for us, so we've to make this fast."

I ignore Asami's smirk, and press the liquid soap onto my hand.

I grab both of hers', and start rubbing them all together. She starts squirming, so I hold her in place as she laughs.

"STOP! That tickles." She says, between laughter.

"I can't! we've to get the germs off of us. And you're too hysterical to do this task alone. I must be the brave one, so we can complete this." I add, while turning the faucet on.

The way she uncontrollably splashes water on me as she tries to fight out of my hold, makes me laugh too.

No longer wanting to torture her, and not wanting my shirt to be soaked, I turn the facet off.

"You okay?" She asks into the mirror, rather than directly up at me.

"Yes. Jin seems to be a very nice person. I'm happy for Mako."

"Good. Because to me, they're both great for each other."

I never said I didn't think there were good for each other.

It's just really amazing and almost shocking, seeing how changed Mako is. I always knew he had the potential to be anything he wanted to be. The fact he's being a better version of himself, speaks volume. I'm very proud of him. But something is off with him.

With our hands clean, I grab a wash cloth and press our palm together to dry them.

"I don't think I ever been so clean. Maybe you could help me in the shower sometimes." She says, getting my face to turn red.

"Your hands are clean, but your thoughts aren't.' I reply, giving her a kiss.

"What did you expect? You told me to follow you to your ex's bathroom. How could I not come up with such steamy thoughts on what would'll do in there?"

She then backs me against the wall, where I can feel the light switch dig into my back."This is a new experience. You're meeting your ex's girlfriend for the first time, you're the last to meet her, and the pie isn't homemade. All of these things must be stressing you out."

"It is." I reply, honestly."

"Shh. I know. Let me take that pressure off you." She says, while running her hand under my shirt, and letting it rest onto my stomach. An action that actually helps, because my mind is focus on her hand, and not all my thoughts.

" I just want dinner to be over." I say, lowly.

"You said move lower?"

I open my eyes, and see her mischievous grin, then lift her off the ground, dragging her back over to the sink.

"You aren't clean!" I shout, while grabbing a hold of the soap dispensary again.

"Hahaha. NO! I'm sorry, Korra." She begs, but she gave me no choice.

"Nice for you two to finally join us." Mako states, unscrewing a bottle of wine.

"You can thank your friend Korra for that." Asami defends, while I pull out her chair.

"You aren't being a good girlfriend, Korra? Shame on you." Mako scolds.

"I am! I made sure her hands were clean, I'm the greatest girlfriend ever." I say in my defense.

"I don't know... If you had to make sure her hands were clean, she seems like the better girlfriend." Jin teases.

" Asami got me wet! I am the better one." I protest, while showing off the watermarks on my grey v neck.

"Who said you didn't get me wet?" My girlfriend replies, with a wink.

Why is she like this?

"Thanks for bringing a pie,I was craving something sweet all day." Jin says.

"Oohh. Looks like someone's not being a good boyfriend." I take the chance to tease, which gets my best friend to blush.

"I bought you ice cream earlier." He defends.

"Well. You can't have ice cream, without pie." Jin adds.

"I'm with your girlfriend on this one, you can't just eat ice cream alone. What kind of monster are you?" Asami sides.

"Thank You, Asami! At least someone has my back."

"Let the worst boyfriend of 2019 go bring out the main dish. Let's not forget, I'm out numbered by you females by 4 to 1. You all should be cooking for me! What kind of women are you?" He teases, while getting up from the table

I get up to help too.

Once in the kitchen, I lean against the wall, watching as he tries to grab the hot pan from the oven with his bare hands. "I think men wearing mittens are manly." I tease, making my way over with the glove near my side of the room.

He smiles and allows me to slip it onto him.

"Thanks."

"No problem." He pulls out the roasted chicken, and I push aside the dishes already on the table, so he can place it on top.

Everything smells and looks great, he really did a great job.

"You're really doing great Mako." I state, while he looks up from the mashed potatoes, he was seasoning with black pepper.

"You say it, like you weren't expecting me to." He teases, going back to his finishing touches.

"Of course I thought you would. It's just nice that we both are happy on our own. Does that make sense?"

"I most certainty does. I like seeing you happy with Asami."

I push the bowl he's about to top with garlic to the side, and he makes eye contact with me, for the first time this whole evening.

"What is up with you?" I ask, much more serious, than my previous playful way.

"Nothing! Why are you hounding me? I'm just trying to make dinner for anxious women!"

"There something else up with you, more than over seasoning dinner. I watched you add various spices to one single dish. It's a finishing touch, Mako. You aren't supposed to steal the flavor!"

"Oh. What meal have you ever made for us to make you such an expert when it comes to cooking?" He defends, which gets me to chuckle to myself. Not out of humor, but disbelief for him to go there.

"I wasn't coming at your cooking skills. Not that you ever prepared a dish for us either. I was addressing your mindset, proving you might not be aware of your actions."

"Don't act like I never wanted to do those things for you." He whispers back, so the others can't hear.

"Yeah. I know. I was 'Never Home' remember?" I whisper back.

He rolls his eyes, and takes out another dish from the oven. But before he can grab the salt, I grab the pan of Mac and Cheese away from him.

I refuse to give the people of this place high cholesterol, because this stubborn chef won't tell me what's on his mind.

I thought I was overreacting, and he maybe in fact, okay . But the moment he mentioned me not cooking, just proves he's not. When he's upset, he always has to put the blame on anything or anyone but him.

"You've it all figured it out, dontcha ." I state.

"I never said I did. How are things with your parents? How about you tell me about yourself, rather than trying to get answers from me."

I nod.

"Okay! Let's talk about me. I'm well. Still enjoying coaching. My parents are fine, my mother and I are much better. Thank you for some help in that department. You've always been a very helpful guy." I say, sarcastically.

"Thanks! I love being helpful. Your welcome for hiring your future love of your life too. " He matches.

"Yes! Thank you! Thanks for showing me, you make all my happiness. The great Mako. The Saver of Lives."

He glares at me and I glare back.

"How are things with you and Asami?" He asks, finally turning off the oven. Which he should've done the moment he took the mac and cheese out. But he has everything under control, right?

"It's great, we made a big step in our relationship."

"We? Be honest, you know she made it. "

The moment he says that, I lose my falseness, and a smirk appears on his face. Then laughter from him follows after.

"Now we're even! I can still get under your skin, like you still can get under mine."

"Ugh! Mako, I love you. I really do. But this is why we couldn't work." I defend, while throwing a string bean at his arm.

"If violence is how you solve problems now, I'm glad we didn't work. Poor Asami." He teases, which gets me to throw more at him.

With each bean, I miss. He tosses it back, getting me to duck and laugh out the way.

"You better stop it. You know Jin likes a clean house, Miss. Housewife." I tease.

"Ohhh. At least I'm not afraid to take that role. Miss. 'I want to fight not a family'"

I laugh some more, at how he made my voice sound so squeaky.

"You know what? I'm banning you from coming to Asami and I's new apartment." I tease.

"Oh? That's the new step you two made. Didn't you two just start dating? Oh yeah. Isn't that a lesbian thing?

"Aw. Are you jealous, because I didn't move in with you?"

"No. I'm not jealous." He says, catching his breath with a smile.

"Good, because I don't want you to be." I reply, while getting up from hiding behind the island.

"I'm sorry for coming at you so harsh earlier, and if you felt like I wasn't acknowledging you. The fact you saw past my front, proves my actions were pointless. You just read me so well, and It's annoying."

"What's wrong with me knowing you?" I ask.

"Because. I'm freaking out here! And I don't want Jin to know."

"Having dinner with your ex girlfriend, employee, and girlfriend. Isn't too bad of a nervous breakdown." I reply, glad I'm finally getting answers.

"No! I'm not freaking out because of that."

"Then why are you freaking out!?"

"BECAUSE! JIN IS PREGNANT!"

The smile on my face drops, causing me to match his look of disbelief.

"Say something, Korra! Please!" He says frantic.

"At least we both can agree us attempting to wait till marriage was a good thing about our relationship." I tease. And I don't know why, because nothing about this is funny.

As Mako and I continue to look at each other, I don't even notice my girlfriend walk into the kitchen.

"What's taking you two so long? We're starving. I was 5 seconds away from stealing Jane's grapes. Haha. I didn't. She only had three and she would've noticed, given that's how high she can count. What's the hold up?"

"Mako is going to be a dad." I say, almost like a robot.

"Well, in that case. Bring the food out! Jin is eating for two now." She replies, walking out the room.

We look back at each other, then start collecting the dishes.
