The Shadow's Light

Sting X Nina (OC)

A Complete Family

Nina giggled at how uncomfortable Minerva was with her and Yukino in Nina's room. It took a lot of her will not to shut the mage out of her life and treat her as terribly as she had done to her during the Grand Magic Games. But, she knew it was time to put the past behind her and actually follow her words rather than say them. She had to admit the satin sheath dress Minerva wore was amazing on her, the blue hues bringing out her skin tone more as the collar merely made her look taller while the slits fit her hips better with the knee-high boots helping her height.

Yukino wore a red dress that had 'Barista' on it, the 'b' in a star, a matching choker around her neck. Baby blue gloves and heels finished up the set, making her look like a Celestial Mage should be. "Relax. You're fine now."

Nina took a moment in brushing her hair to smile. "It's just us girls, after all." Every inch of her was telling her to leave and not get kidnapped again, but she ignored it by putting her hair up into twin ponytails, curling them to make them shorter and placing the flower into one of the ties. She wore a dusty blue material with a lace body and a pleated midi length bottom, teaming it with silver heels. It had been a week since the fight with Tartaros, but Nina had hopes that things would turn out for the better. "If you don't feel like it, you can stay with the others while I go see how Laxus is." She hadn't seen her adoptive brother since the start of the war on Tartaros, so she wanted to see him.

"I want to... I want to apologize to Erza for what I did... And I want to prove I'm deeply sorry for what I did to you, too." Minerva stated as they left the room to join up with Rogue, Sting, Lector and Froche.

"Took long enough." Lector teased.

"We're girls. Gotta look pretty." Nina said with a giggle as she went to Sting's side.

"Don't need to try hard for me. You always look gorgeous." He teased, kissing her temple and getting her to laugh more.

"Oh, hush up." She said as they went into the main room of the guild hall.

"Hey, Sting, Rogue and Nina are back!" Orga said with his grin.

"Lector, Froche and Shina as well." Rufus agreed.

"Plus, we have..." Nina started, revealing Minerva.

"Lady Minerva!" The guild cheered.

Nina turned to face Minerva. "Welcome home, Minerva." She blinked when Minerva started crying again.

"I'm home..." She sniffed, tears streaming down her face. "I'm truly home!"

The guild celebrated the return of Minerva with drinks and partying like Nina's never seen before. She smiled at how much it reminded her of the parties Fairy Tail had everyday. A part of her was curious as to how it was now that everything was done. 'No... Nothing's really done... There's still END and Zeref to deal with... Fairy Tail has a difficult road...' As they walked to Magnolia, not wanting to ride a train, Nina sighed at how much her life had changed since leaving Fairy Tail before blinking. "N-Natsu?" She asked, the fire mage pausing.

"Yo, Nina. S'up?" He asked.

"Just going to see Laxus. Where're you heading?" She asked.

"Training. Gotta get stronger, ya know? I realized this during that one fight. There are stronger people out there waiting for me to beat them." Natsu said.

Nina frowned. "But... What about Lu-chan?"

"... That's another reason. I need to be able to protect her from whatever happens. You were right, Sting. She's my reason for living. She's my mate. That's why." He said seriously.

Nina nodded. "Bout time. Don't worry, your secret's safe with us."

"I know. Tell Luce I'll be back for her soon, okay?" He asked.

"Totally!" Nina said as they waved goodbye. "He'll be even stronger, huh...? Well, once we see Laxus, I need to do some training, too."

"Can't let Natsu get better than me. Plus I gotta stay strong, being the Guild Master and all." Sting agreed as they walked into the hospital.

"Nina!" Evergreen said with a huge smile and hugged her tightly. "Our little sister..."

"Ever, let her breathe." Bickslow teased, patting Nina's head. "Great to see ya."

"Lady Nina, welcome back." Freed said, smiling.

"It's nice to see you all, too. How's Laxus?" She asked once she had breath back.

"You're just in time." Freed replied as they looked to see Laxus was waking up.

"Laxus!" The four said in relief.

"I'm..." He said.

"Don't scare me like that, okay?" Nina asked.

"Pathetic." He pulled Nina into a brotherly hug. "I can't stay like this!"

"Huh?" She was confused with his actions. Normally, Laxus would only hug her if it were just the two of them.

"I'm not strong enough to protect the people I love." He said.

Nina looked to Sting, who nodded. "If you want, you can come with and train with us."

"Really? Huh. Well, I suppose I can't turn that down." Laxus agreed before seeing Minerva, his face switching into rage. "What's she doin here?!"

"Laxus, calm down!" Nina said, getting between him and Minerva, who was frightened. "She's not a threat anymore."

"She tortured you during the Grand Magic Games, Rose! The image of your nearly-broken body will never leave my memory and the fact she's right here, as if everything was okay, is disgusting. I will never forgive her for that and I will make it clear she won't get my forgiveness as long as I breathe." Laxus warned, lightning surrounding his figure at his words.

Nina flinched at the memory brought up. She was surprised that she was able to walk after everything that happened that day. There was a reason she never wore any revealing clothes and tried to hide her body after she and Sting made love the first time. She was ashamed of the scars on her back and never wanted to have anyone else see the marks that were proof to her mortality. Out of habit, she held her wrist, rubbing it as if there was a wound there. "I know... What she did to me was... well, disgusting... And I might not forget it, either... But, I want to give her a second chance to show the true Minerva that was hidden away..." She said as what happened in Minerva's world swamped her and made her feel ill. "I'll take responsibility... I'm not a child anymore, Lax... I can fend for myself now.."

Laxus took a few moments to see her conviction before he nodded. "If you say so. I'll tolerate her."

She sighed in relief as they left the hospital, the Thunder Legion stating they would tell stories about her as a child to Rogue to help fill in the years he missed, to her annoyance. Even Laxus told stories about her. "I think that'll be enough." She said before her nose picked up a familiar scent, making her stare across the way.

"Love?" Sting stopped beside her and looked in the direction she was. "Someone you know?" He asked as the one she was looking at met her gaze and walked over.

Freed fought a smile as the man walked over to Nina. "You could say that..."

"It is... Rosana, correct?" The man asked.

"Actually, it's Nina Cheney..." She corrected.

"You have become quite the vision since we last saw each other. In case you've forgotten my name, it is Lord Benton Ambrose Armitage the Fifth." He said, taking a hand, bowing and kissing the knuckles. "I would be honored if you re-think that offer I made you years ago..."

Nina tore her hand back and scoffed. "The answer's the same: no. You're still a creep. Plus, I think my boyfriend would kill you, wouldn't you?" She asked, turning and looking at Sting, who was cracking his knuckles.

"Touch my girlfriend one more time, pal... I dare you. If you do, you'll find out how easy it is to learn to fly." Sting warned, wrapping an around her waist and holding her close.

"Y-Y-You're the White Dragon Sting!" Lord Benton paled considerably as he glanced at the glaring form behind Nina. "A-A-And the Shadow Dragon Rogue!"

Nina gave a smirk. "And my blood brother, whose even more protective than my adoptive brother and my boyfriend." She explained, seeing him run off as if he had been lit on fire.

"Who was that?" Rogue asked.

Nina sighed. "When I was eleven, me, Laxus and the Thunder Legion went on a job that offered enough for some hair ties I wanted to get myself. Lord Benton Ambrose Armitage the Fifth was the one asking for the help. But, he was perverted and wanted to marry me only knowing me for not even a day. He almost became barbecue when he would let me go." She explained, shuddering at the memory.

Rogue sighed. "Well, glad to know he didn't try anything."

"I made sure of it." Laxus replied as they resumed walking.

She glanced at Sting, who still looked angry and she wondered why. She explained that she had no intention towards the lord and never would. After all, Sting was the one she wanted and was destined for. "Hey... I thought I told ya, it's in the past. If it's about the whole 'dance' thing, it was more a forced one and I didn't know better." When he didn't reply, she looked to Rogue, who shook his head as if he didn't know what to do as she slowed her pace to be beside Rogue. 'I guess he needs space... I mean, he just learned that I was hit on as a child, so maybe his anger isn't really aimed at me, but I should let him cool off at his own pace.' When they entered the guild hall, Nina led Laxus and the other three to another room to replace their guild mark with the Sabertooth one. Her heart hurt, but she knew it'll get better after today as she made her way to the Sabertooth library to pass the time until bedtime.

The book she read was the one from Levy, explaining everything about dragon slayers and how closely they were to their dragon parents. The chapter she was on explained how dragon slayers had a time each year to 'breed' like dragons, but it varied on the gender, age and mentality of the slayer. She knew Wendy wouldn't have to worry about the 'breeding' season for a while, even though she was the same age as Rogue, Sting and herself. Natsu wasn't mature enough to worry, Gajeel didn't care enough and she didn't know how it would be for the second generation like Laxus and Cobra. That left her generation, which, according to her reading, were most likely to have the full 'breeding' season than the others, with it beginning with a change in scent for the females and change in protectiveness for the males.

She was so absorbed in the book that Rogue's hand on her shoulder caused her to fall back out of her chair. "Gah!"

"Sorry. I thought you'd at least smell me. Guess not." He said, helping her back up and into the chair. "I should've realized you go into another world when reading something."

"It's alright." She said, putting the book down on the page she was on. "Just reading some more about dragon slayers."

"Oh? And what did ya learn now?" Rogue asked.

That made her beam. At least her brother was eager to let her talk about her thoughts on anything she's read, same with Laxus. "Well, it's currently explaining 'breeding' season and how us third generation slayers actually have a completely different one than other generations. It doesn't say anything about second generation, though." She said. "It says that a female's scent changes while a male gets more protective. It all depends on the age, maturity and gender, of course." She pointed at the paragraph explaining it. "That's as far as I got."

"Glad to know. It's getting late and I wanted to let you know." Rogue said. "Good thing I did, otherwise you'd fall asleep on the book."

That got her to laugh and take the book with her, knowing it was only in the library so it was out of the way in her room. It was normal for them to walk to her room before he left for his house. Entering her room, she sighed and placed her book on the table before heading to the balcony attached to her room, leaning on the railing as Shina walked over.

"You okay, Nina?" She asked, hopping up onto the rail.

"... Maybe. After seeing that creep, I don't know how Sting feels. But, I'll let him think things through." She explained, looking at the moon. "To be honest, I wonder if he hates me because I never told him about it..." She shrugged before she yawned, deciding to head to bed and changed into her pajamas. Before she could climb in, her nose picked up on Sting and Lector's scent, mentally groaning at how it was always when she was about to relax when he shows up. She opened the door and let the two in and making her way back to her bed. "I thought you wanted some space."

"Yeah. I did. I realized that giving ya the 'silent' treatment all the way here was wrong. Sorry bout that." He stated. "Hope ya can forgive me."

Nina took a few moments to make him think she was angry before giggling. "No need for that. I already had." She squeaked when he hefted her over his shoulder and carried her to the bed, tossing her on before climbing in after her. "You're one cocky asshole, aren't ya?"

He smirked. "You know it and love it." He replied, kissing her softly before they fell asleep.
